Indian cricket is never short of drama, rumours and controversies. And the biggest headline-making news at the start of the new week is that there’s a complete breakdown in the relationship between legendary batters Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir. Reportedly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is worried about the worsening dressing room environment during the ODIs and could soon hold a meeting to address the issues.

So far there have been reports that BCCI could hold “deeper” conversations on India’s alarming decline in Tests at home after the white-ball season, while the Times of India said that the Indian cricket board has summoned Gambhir and chief selectors Ajit Agarkar for a meeting after the ongoing ODI series against South Africa to chalk out the roadmap for Rohit and Kohli in ODIs as the duo now only play in the 50-over format after retiring from Tests and T20Is.

BCCI worried about dressing room evnviroment in ODIs

But the latest twist is that BCCI may not be interested in holding a review in the near future regarding the team’s performance in Tests, as per Abhishek Tripathi of Dainik Jagran. Even if they hold a meeting, it will not be after the ODI series but the T20Is against South Africa, which end on 19 December.

And that’s not all. The next BCCI meeting could be centred around the poor dressing environment during the ODIs. As per Dainik Jagran, the dressing room environment during the Tests and T20Is is very good, but poor during the ODIs as the relationship between coach Gambhir and veteran batters Rohit and Kohli is “not as good as what it should be,” according to a BCCI source.

A BCCI meeting regarding the future of Kohli and Rohit in ODIs can take place soon, maybe after the second ODI in Raipur or the final game in Vishakhapatnam.

Kohli and Gambhir not on speaking terms?

The report added more fuel to the fire regarding discontent between selectors, Gambhir and the Rohit-Kohli duo by claiming that Rohit and chief selector Agarkar were not seen having any conversation during the ODI series in Australia last month, while Kohli and Gambhir may also not be on speaking terms.

It seemed like Virat Kohli didn’t really feel like talking to Gautam Gambhir, so he just walked past him while looking at his phone.

Meanwhile, the BCCI is also reportedly very unhappy with how Rohit and Kohli fans have been “trolling” coach Gambhir on social media.

Frankly, it has become difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff, but Indian cricket fans would only hope that all misunderstandings or concerns are addressed soon. Any lingering discord would prove detrimental for Team India in the long term.
