The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) men’s selection committee could see one major change as a former domestic cricketer could be dropped from the Ajit Agarkar-led five-member panel. At the same time, there’s some massive news for the Indian cricket team and fans as head of the Men in Blue selectors, Agarkar, has been handed a contract extension till June 2026.

The former India all-rounder Agarkar was handed a one-year extension at the start of IPL 2025, which he has accepted, as per a report in The Indian Express. The 47-year-old Agarkar was named the head of the BCCI selection committee in 2023.

Under his tenure, India ended their 11-year ICC title drought by winning the 2024 T20 World Cup and also captured the Champions Trophy earlier this year.

“Under his tenure the Indian team had won titles and had seen transition (of the Tests and T20) too. The BCCI had extended his contract till June 2026, and he had accepted the offer a few months back," a BCCI official told The Indian Express.

Besides Agarkar, the selection panel includes Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra and Sridharan Sharath. As per the daily, the BCCI is largely satisfied with the work of the selection committee, which has overseen the transition in the Test and ODI sides, but former domestic cricketer Sharath could be dropped from the panel.

The BCCI reportedly wants to add a new face to the team and that change could take place during its Annual General Meeting in September.

Sharath was added to the senior men’s committee from the junior selection panel in January 2023.

The term for the BCCI selection panel is usually four years, but they are up for renewal every year. It is still to be seen whether other members like Das, Banerjee and Ratra will also be given extensions.
