India’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh that was scheduled to take place in August after the ongoing Test series in England has been rescheduled, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Saturday. The series will now be taking place in September next year.

Revised dates to be announced later, says BCCI in official statement

“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have mutually agreed to defer the white-ball series, three ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals, between Bangladesh and India in August 2025 to September 2026,” read an official statement from the BCCI.

“This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams.

“The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course,” the statement added.

The Men in Blue were to play three ODIs and as many T20Is in Dhaka and Chattogram from 17 to 31 August. Batting stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli would have headlined the 50-over leg of the trip, given it would have been their first international appearance since announcing their Test retirements in May.

The decision to reschedule the tour comes amid strained diplomatic relations between New Delhi and Dhaka in recent months. Especially after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to New Delhi in August last year following student protests that turned violent.

Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has served as Chief Adviser of the current interim government of Bangladesh and has also courted controversy for his comments on India’s north-east.

India had last toured Bangladesh in December 2022, in which it played three ODIs and two T20Is. While Bangladesh won the ODI series 2-1, India completed a 2-0 sweep of the Test series.
