India middle-order batter Tilak Varma speaks to Sanjay Manjrekar ahead of the match against Sri Lanka

“Finishing the games is something I always look forward to and it came against Pakistan and I am happy that I could do the job. Since the last couple of years I have been batted at different positions and Gauti sir said to be flexible and I try to play according to the situation,” the Mumbai Indians batter says in the chat on Sony Sports Network.

“I do love a lot of fitness, got inspired by Virat Kohli and he is someone who has taken the fitness standard to next level, so yes I do spend a lot of time in the gym. The wickets have been on the slower side (here in Dubai)and I have already spoken to Surya that it (today’s pitch) is slightly better for batting. When compared to Indian conditions, the surface and outfield is a bit slow here,” the Hyderabad batter adds.

Simon Doull and Ravi Shastri analyse the Dubai pitch ahead of the India-Sri Lanka showdown in the Asia Cup Super 4s

“India scored 168 on this pitch in the last game here. Surface will remain good for the entire duration and close to 160-170 haven’t been chased. We have seen a little bit of help for the seamers, and not so much for the spinners. Batters will come out attacking in the first 6 overs. Looks like a very good surface,” is the assessment by Doull and Shastri after toss.

Gentle annihilation with human flaws: India’s Asia Cup 2025 campaign under Suryakumar Yadav

In the last few years, however, India have imbibed that unforgiving streak, one of the main reasons why they have lost just one game in the immediate three ICC events.

That hasn’t necessarily been the case in this T20 Asia Cup, where India have extended their winning run to five matches. To point to flows and lacunae during this behemothian run might appear to be nit-picking, but India will be the first to admit that they haven’t mounted a flawless campaign thus far.

India had dropped a total of three catches in the group stage of the ongoing tournament – all of them tough chances. The Men in Blue, however, would drop more catches in each of their Super 4s matches – four against Pakistan and five against Bangladesh – than they did across the three Group A fixtures

All four catches in the rematch against Pakistan were dollies while four of the five dropped chances against Bangladesh came off the bat of opener Saif Hassan. ( READ MORE )

“It comes in the eyesight sometimes and it’s a little bit of disturbance. We have to get acclimatised to it,” he added, referring to the Dubai International Cricket Stadium’s ‘Ring of Fire’ and how that can sometimes prevent fielders from completing catches.

India to test their bench strength against Sri Lanka in Asia Cup Super 4 dead rubber?

With a place in the final already secured, India are expected to rest key players and give opportunities to Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana tonight. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will look to salvage pride in their final Super 4 outing after being knocked out early of the competition.

India vs Sri Lanka LIVE Score, Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 Match: India will look to maintain their unbeaten run in the Asia Cup 2025 as they face Sri Lanka in their final Super 4 clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday, September 26. Having already booked their place in the final, Suryakumar Yadav’s men are expected to test their bench strength against a battered Sri Lankan side.

All eyes will be on the Indian team management to see if they give opportunities to players like Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma in the dead rubber against Sri Lanka, who have already been knocked out of the Asia Cup. With a high-voltage final against arch-rivals Pakistan scheduled for Sunday, this match is a good chance for the Men in Blue to test their bench strength and rest some of their key players ahead of the much-anticipated clash.

However, the match will also give players like Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube a chance to regain their batting form. For that to happen, India would ideally need to win the toss and opt to bat first, allowing all their batters some valuable time in the middle ahead of the big final.
