India vice-captain Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the remaining two T20I matches against South Africa due to a toe injury. Sources close to the Indian team told PTI that Gill picked up the injury during a training session ahead of the fourth T20I in Lucknow.
Meanwhile, the toss has been delayed due to low visibility caused by fog at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Another inspection is scheduled to take place at 7:30 PM IST after the first inspection did not yield any positive outcome.
Gill has been going through a rough patch with the bat in the T20I format, and the injury now rules him out of the fourth and fifth matches of the series. According to the report, Sanju Samson is expected to open the batting in Gill’s absence. Samson has been waiting for an opportunity at the top of the order for a long time.
Axar Patel has also been ruled out of the remainder of the series due to poor health. Shahbaz Ahmed has been added in his place and was seen practicing before the toss.
