Glenn Phillips is among the best fielders among the current generation of cricketers, and has been at his athletic best in the ICC Champions Trophy, where he has collected a number of stunners. On Sunday, he pulled off another unbelievable catch in the final against India in Dubai to give New Zealand a much-needed opening after a solid opening partnership between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in their chase of the 252-run target.

Gill was batting on 31, with his partnership with Rohit worth 105, when he went for an aerial drive off Mitchell Santner’s bowling in the the 19th over. With a majority of other fielders, the ball would have sailed over for a boundary; or maybe the fielder would have got a hand on it and halted its momentum to save a couple of runs.
With Phillips though, everything seems to stick to his hand, and that was indeed the case on Sunday as he completed a breathtaking catch with his right hand to give New Zealand a much-needed breakthrough.

Kohli departs early in final
One wicket would then lead to another as Virat Kohli, who has been India’s standout batter in the Champions Trophy, was trapped LBW in off-spinner Michael Bracewell’s first over of the day. Kohli, who had opened his account with a single off Santner right after Gill’s dismissal, ended up missing the ball completely with Bracewell getting enough turn to beat his inside edge and hit him plumb in front of middle.
Kohli opted to review the decision, and ended up burning a review on his way back to the pavilion.
