India have set a massive target of 254 runs for England in the second semifinal of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After India finished with a huge total of 253/7 in 20 overs, England now face a very difficult chase if they want to reach the final and play New Zealand on Sunday.
India’s innings was powered by a brilliant knock from Sanju Samson , who scored 89 runs off 42 balls. He was well supported by Ishan Kishan (39 off 18), Shivam Dube (43 off 25), and useful late contributions from Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma. The total of 253/7 is now one of the highest scores ever recorded in the tournament.

The record for the highest successful run chase against India in T20 internationals belongs to Australia, who chased down 223 runs against India in Guwahati in 2023, finishing with 225/5 thanks to Glenn Maxwell.

Interestingly, the highest successful run chase in T20 World Cup history was achieved by England when they chased down 230 against South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium during the Super 10 of 2016 edition.
Meanwhile, the highest successful chase in a knockout match came when the West Indies chased 193 against India in the semifinal of the same 2016 tournament, also at the Wankhede Stadium.
