Over a month has passed, but ardent cricket fans will likely vividly remember the edge-of-the-seat thriller between India and England at the iconic Lord’s in July. With 23 runs needed, India’s hopes rested on a well-set Ravindra Jadeja, while England needed the wicket of No 11 Mohammed Siraj to claim victory. What followed broke millions of hearts in an instant as Shoaib Bashir’s delivery rolled on to hit Siraj’s stumps.
With enough time having passed, both teams have fully processed the result. However, the moments created by matches like these remain etched in the hearts of players and fans for ages. And, when it comes to this match, no one captured the spotlight quite like Bashir, who has come forward to reveal how he planned to take the wicket of Siraj and how he ultimately succeeded.

Bashir narrates how he planned Siraj’s wicket
“We got Joe Root to come into silly point to put pressure on Siraj and I just tried to put as many revs on that ball as I could," Bashir said while speaking to The Sunday Times. "Luckily, it popped from a length and when it hit his bat [and down into the ground], everyone was just looking, ‘Where is it?’"
“From my angle, I couldn’t see (the bail come off). My reaction was off a lot of other people’s reactions. I was just relieved. That feeling will stay with me forever, at the home of cricket, in front of a packed crowd. It doesn’t get better," Bashir added.
With the 22-run victory, England took the lead in the series. However, two matches remained, and India were still very much in contention. Nevertheless, it was never going to be easy for the visitors. In the fourth Test, India overcame the odds to secure an epic draw in Manchester.
Then, powered by Siraj’s blistering performance, Team India snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in the fifth Test at The Oval. As a result, the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy ended in a 2-2 series draw.
