Another defeat for India will give England an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series.
India face uphill task amid rain threat
India must not lose the Manchester Test if they want to keep the series alive till the fifth match at The Oval, London. However, rain could play spoilsport as there are predictions of heavy rain and thunderstorms on the first two days of play. Losing too many overs due to rain in Manchester may spoil India’s party.
Nonetheless, the Shuman Gill-led India already face a very tough battle as they are suffering from multiple injury issues. Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh are ruled out of the fourth Test, while Nitish Kumar Reddy is out of the series.
Haryana fast bowler Anshul Kamboj may get his debut in place of Akash Deep, while Shardul Thakur could come in for Nitish. Another major selection call would be around Karun Nair, who is reportedly set to be replaced by Sai Sudharsan.
Meanwhile, England have announced one change with all-rounder Liam Dawson returning to the Test XI for the first time since 2017. He replaces Shoaib Bashir.
England XI for the 4th Test: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (C), Jamie Smith, Liam Dawson, Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, and Jofra Archer.
