England vs India, 3rd Test Day 1 Highlights: England ended Day 1 of the 3rd Test at Lord’s in a strong position, thanks to Joe Root’s unbeaten 99. After choosing to bat first, England were in early trouble but Root stayed calm and steadied the ship. He built a solid partnership with Ollie Pope (44) and later with captain Ben Stokes, who is unbeaten on 39. Their partnership helped England recover and finish the day at 251/4 in 83 overs. Nitish Reddy took two wickets in the first session and then Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja took one wicket each in the final session to feature in the scoresheet. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant had to leave the field due to a finger injury, and Dhruv Jurel kept wickets in his place.

Joe Root stood like a wall and guided England to a strong position by stumps on Day 1 of the third Test at Lord’s after early wickets provided India an upper hand for sometime. The former England captain was unbeaten on 99 at the close of play, taking the hosts to 251/4 in 83 overs.

India had a dream start in the morning session when Nitish Kumar Reddy dismissed both openers in the same over. But since then, it was Joe Root who brought all his experience into play, first with Ollie Pope and then with skipper Ben Stokes, stitching together crucial partnerships to rebuild the innings.

Rishabh Pant’s injury midway through the day became a concern for India. He injured his left index finger while keeping and was forced to leave the field. Dhruv Jurel took over the keeping duties for the rest of the day. The BCCI later confirmed Pant was under medical supervision.

India vs England, 3rd Test Day 1 LIVE Updates: India and England lock horns at the ‘Home of Cricket’ with the third of five Tests getting underway at Lord’s starting Thursday. The Shubman Gill-led visitors will have arrived in London in an upbeat state of mind after leveling the five-Test series 1-1 with a 336-run thrashing of the hosts in the second Test that concluded at Edgbaston on Sunday.

England had earlier won the series opener at Headingley by five wickets chasing down a target of 371, and will be hoping to put the lopsided defeat behind at Edgbaston behind and focus on regaining the lead.
