BCCI puts Bangladesh tour on hold, will seek government's nod before final call: Report

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to put their tour to Bangladesh on hold for now amid the political unrest in the neighbouring country. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had released the dates of the fixtures between the two teams on Friday but that series looks increasingly uncertain amid the current political scenario.

Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman on Saturday was released by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after BCCI instructed the franchise to do so amid the increasing number of attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. The decision to drop Rahman, the only Bangladeshi in the IPL, was taken “due to recent developments” in Bangladesh.

India’s Bangladesh tour doubtful

India was to tour Bangladesh ahead of the 2025 Asia Cup for three T20Is and the same number of ODIs. However, the tour was postponed due to the deteriorating security situation in Bangladesh. On Friday, BCB finally released the dates for the series which could very well be postponed once again.

“We didn’t travel to Bangladesh last year too, BCB had issued their international calendar, but it looks doubtful, as we need Indian government approval to play in any other country," Indian Express stated in a report on Saturday quoting a top BCCI official.

BCB had said that the three-match ODI and three-match T20I series will take place in September 2026.

Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup plans as per schedule

Bangladesh are scheduled to visit India this February for the T20 World Cup where they will play their group games in Kolkata and Mumbai. The Indian Express report said that the T20 World Cup plans will go ahead without any concerns.

“As far as the T20I World Cup is concerned, Bangladesh will play as per the scheduled games in India,” the publication quoted the BCCI official as saying.

Bangladesh are in Group C for the T20 World Cup alongside England, Nepal, West Indies and Italy. They will play their first three games in Kolkata before taking on Italy in Mumbai.

India and Bangladesh last played in the recent Women’s World Cup while the men’s team of both the sides faced each other last in the 2025 Asia Cup.
