The good news is that the forecast predicts light rain in the evening. India’s semi-final against Australia starts at 3 PM IST and as per AccuWeather, the probability of precipitation stands at 5-7% from 3 PM IST to late night. However, we have often seen rain predictions prove incorrect in places like Navi Mumbai.

So, what happens if rain washes out the India vs Australia semi-final on Thursday (30 October)? The good news is that ICC has arranged for a reserve day. But the bad news is that there’s an 84% probability of precipitation on the reserve day (Friday, 31 October). In case the semi-final gets washed out on the reserve day as well, then Australia will qualify for the final as a result of finishing ahead of India in the point table.

Women’s World Cup reserve day rules

Nonetheless, all efforts will be made to complete the semi-final. Let’s take a look at the rules for the reserve day.

Rule 1: All efforts will be made to complete the semi-final on the designated day (Thursday, 30 October) of the match, including reduction of overs.

Rule 2: If the number of overs is reduced on the designated day due to rain, but no play is possible after the reduction of the overs, then it will be played as a 50-over match on the reserve day.

Rule 3: If the semi-final is resumed on the designated day after reduction of overs and then gets abandoned, then the match will be played on the reserve day with the same reduction of overs. Please note, a minimum of 20 overs is needed per team to complete the match.

Rule 4: In case of a washout on the reserve day, the team with a higher position in the points table would qualify for the final.
