Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be hoping to make up for their disappointing comeback on Sunday and fans their money’s worth when India face Australia in the second of three ODIs on Thursday. Both Rohit and Kohli had struggled to make an impact in the series opener in Perth on Sunday, falling for 8 and 0 respectively, and will be hoping to come back stronger less than 24 hours from now in order to silence their critics.

It wasn’t just the Ro-Ko pair that failed on Sunday, as newly-appointed ODI captain Shubman Gill and his deputy Shreyas Iyer had been dismissed for 10 and 11 respectively. KL Rahul (38) and Axar Patel (31) were the only batters to cross 30 while all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy dished out an unbeaten 19 off 11 deliveries on ODI debut.

Australia ended up restricting India to a modest 136/9 in 26 overs after opting to field in the rain-affected encounter at the Optus Stadium. Mitchell Marsh, filling in as captain for Pat Cummins, later starred in the successful chase with an unbeaten 46 as Australia cantered to a seven-wicket victory with nearly five overs to spare.

Shubman Gill is yet to lose a series as captain, either in the T20I or Test formats, and will be hoping to keep his undefeated streak intact at the end of his maiden ODI assignment.

What is the pitch and weather expected to be like in Adelaide for the second Australia-India ODI?

While the tour opener in Perth witnessed multiple rain interruptions, one of which held up play for two hours, the second one-dayer in Adelaide shouldn’t experience any such breaks on Thursday, even if the South Australian capital experienced thunderstorms on Tuesday and a spell of rain on the following day.

The forecast for Adelaide on Accuweather reads “partly sunny” during the afternoon with a 1 per cent chance of rain. It will get slightly chilly later in the evening with the temperature dropping to 9 degrees, but rain clouds should remain clear of the venue.

Thanks to the rains in the build-up to the match, the ground staff at the Adelaide Oval have been using UV lights in order to dry the wicket. That, however, should have no impact on how the wicket plays during the match. Adelaide Oval is generally considered a batting paradise and it should remain the same come Thursday.
