India Squad For England Test LIVE: India are set to begin a new chapter in Test cricket once the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League comes to an end on 3 June. Team India, after all, will be playing a Test series for the first time since Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, two of their biggest superstars of the modern era, retired from the format in the span of a week earlier this month.
With Kohli calling time on his 14-year career, India will have to hunt for the next Test No 4, a slot that carries quite the legacy with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar having occupied it before Kohli. Rohit’s retirement 11-and-a-half years after his debut and a little over three years after becoming Test captain means the BCCI will have to pick the next Test leader as well.
The job of the selection committee just got tougher as a result, and it is understandable if chief selector Ajit Agarkar and his team take their time to arrive at a final decision – one that will define Indian cricket in the years to come.
The selectors will have had an easier time picking the India A squad, which they announced on Friday with Abhimanyu Easwaran named captain and first-choice Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is set for his maiden tour of England, also included.
