The upcoming five-match Test series between India and England will reportedly be played for a brand-new trophy named after two legends of the game - Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson. According to a BBC report, the new Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy will be unveiled before the start of the series, which begins on 20 June at Headingley, Leeds.
Sachin Tendulkar, considered one of the greatest batters of all time, is still the highest run-scorer in Test cricket with 15,921 runs. He played 200 Tests between 1989 and 2013. On the other hand, James Anderson is England’s top wicket-taker and holds the record for most wickets by a fast bowler in Tests, with 704 scalps.
Interestingly, the two legends faced each other in 14 Test matches, and Anderson dismissed Tendulkar nine times, more than any other bowler.
What was the name of the old trophy?
Earlier, when India toured England for Test matches, the series was played for the Pataudi Trophy, named after the royal Pataudi family. The late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi was one of India’s most iconic captains. His father also played for both England and India. The report suggests the Pataudi family has been informed about the change.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has not officially confirmed this change yet. England were the last holders of the Pataudi Trophy after drawing the 2021-2022 series 2-2.
