Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are an unstoppable force in the world of cricket, even in their late 30s. Their record speaks for itself, and on Sunday, they created a massive India record that most likely would never be surpassed.
By playing in the India vs South Africa first ODI at Ranchi, Rohit and Kohli have become the first Indian pair to complete 392 matches together in international cricket. They surpassed the great Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid to capture the Indian record.
Rohit-Kohli surpasses Tendulkar–Dravid
Tendulkar and Dravid played 391 international matches together.
Kohli and Rohit have played 106 T20Is, 60 Tests and 226 ODIs together so far. Having retired from Tests and ODIs, the duo can only add more matches to that tally in the ODIs. And their fans would want them to carry on till the 2027 ODI World Cup.
While Ro-Ko now lead the chart of most matches for an Indian pair with 392 matches and the Tendulkar-Dravid combo is second with 391 games, it’s the Dravid and Sourav Ganguly pair that is in the third position, with 369 matches.
Meanwhile, Rohit needs just three sixes in the first ODI to create a new world record. He is currently on 349 sixes in ODIs, two behind all-time leader Shahid Afridi (351).
Rohit can also become the 14th batter in the history of the game to complete 20,00 international runs if he manages to score 98 runs in the first ODI. At the time of publishing this report, he was on 26 not out.
