With the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) nearing its conclusion, the attention will soon shift to India’s upcoming tour of England, where they play a five-Test series that gets the 2025-27 cycle of the ICC World Test Championship underway. The series will also mark the beginning of a new era for Indian cricket, with Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant set to take charge of the team in the elite format for the first time after being named captain and vice-captain respectively.
It will also be India’s first Test assignment since modern-day greats Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirements from the format in the span of a week earlier this month.
‘Test series in England a true measure of a team’s grit and adaptability’
Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara, who has not represented the nation since the World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval in 2023, feels the upcoming series will be something of a “significant turning point for Indian cricket”.
“The India-England Test series has always been a true measure of a team’s grit and adaptability. In the last 100 years, India has managed to win only 3 out of 19 series played on English soil, which highlights just how challenging this contest has been for us.
“With a young and dynamic squad, this tour represents a significant turning point for Indian cricket. I look forward to witnessing how this group rises to the occasion and sets new benchmarks for future generations,” said Pujara in a statement by Sony Sports Network, where he will be seen as a panelist for the broadcasters’ coverage of the upcoming series.

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan, who is also part of Sony Sports Network’s coverage of the marquee Test series, felt that the new generation led by Gill and Pant is writing a new chapter in India’s cricketing history.
