ICC unveils schedule for Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 Qualifiers set to be held in Pakistan

The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Qualifiers is all set to take place in Lahore, Pakistan from 9 to 19 April. This is the second ICC tournament that Pakistan will host this year after the Champions Trophy 2025. International cricket made a return to Pakistan after a decade-long isolation following the 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore. The attack led to a security crisis, forcing Pakistan to play its home matches in the UAE for nearly 10 years.

International teams gradually started returning to Pakistan before the country finally secured the hosting rights for the 2025 Champions Trophy, their first ICC event in 29 years. However, India refused to travel to Pakistan for the marquee event, leading to all their matches being played in Dubai. When India reached the final, it was confirmed that the summit clash would also not take place in Pakistan. Eventually, the final was held in Dubai, where India emerged victorious.

ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2025: Format and teams

The round-robin tournament will feature 15 matches across two venues in Lahore: Gaddafi Stadium and Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) Stadium. Six teams will compete for the final two spots in the Women’s Cricket World Cup, set to be held in India in October-November 2025.

The participating teams include four full members, Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Ireland, who finished between seventh and tenth in the ICC Women’s Championship standings. They will be joined by Scotland and Thailand, the next two highest-ranked teams in the Women’s ODI Rankings as of October 28, 2024.
