'I wouldn’t bowl to him in England': Mitchell Starc acknowledges the brilliance of India captain Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill’s exceptional batting performance in England has been noted by the Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc. Gill guided India to a famous win at Edgbaston.

The seismic vibrations caused by Shubman Gill through his exceptional batting in the ongoing India vs England Test series have reached one of this generation’s finest bowlers, Mitchell Starc. Defining the wickets produced so far as sub-continent-like, Starc admits he would not fancy bowling to Gill on those tracks in England.

Gill posted excessive scores of 269 and 161 in the 2nd Test at Edgbaston, which led to India winning the match by a sizeable margin of 336 runs. Besides the phenomenal show in the 2nd Test, Shubman also got a century in the 1st Test.

Having registered three tons already in the series, the Indian captain has amassed 585 runs, breaking various records in the process.

Starc on Gill’s exceptional show in England

Ahead of the start of the series, Shubman Gill’s batting average in Test was hovering in mid 30s; nevertheless, he has redeemed himself in the format and considerably improved his average. It is now in the 40s.

Gill’s emergence has been noted by the world and even Mitchell Starc has confessed that he may not have had any chance against him in those wickets.

“I wouldn’t bowl to him in England, that’s for sure. I didn’t see much of the game, I saw the scorecards. There was a few guys that were waking up, particularly Marnus and Alex Carey and Steve Smith who would sit around a coffee machine and watch the game. I did see the scores. Who would be a kid in England and want to bowl on some of those wickets. But from all reports, it was very sub-continent like which I find it hard to believe,” Starc said on the Willow Talk Podcast (via Indian Express).

The India vs England series is locked at 1-1, and the crucial 3rd Test is currently ongoing at the iconic Lord’s. Indian batters will have the momentum following the Edgbaston Test, but England have been resurgent after the setback. The hosts have posted 387 runs in the 1st innings.
