Rajat Patidar, captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, recently faced a bizarre situation when his old mobile number was reassigned to a teenager named Manish from Chhattisgarh. While it was a usual telecom matter, it turned serious as the MP cricketer was forced to seek help from the local police. The episode became further intriguing as former South African cricketer AB de Villiers and India’s batting legend Virat Kohli unintentionally became a part of the matter.
According to a report by NDTV, Patidar’s former mobile number got deactivated after being kept inactive for over 90 days. The telecom provider thus reassigned it to Manish, who purchased the number in Chattisgarh and activated it with a Reliance Jio SIM card in late June. After acquiring the number, Manish and his friend Khemraj observed that the number was showcasing Patidar’s image as the Whatsapp profile pic.
Dream come true due to a wrong number
Afterwards, Manish and his friend started receiving calls from prominent cricketers like Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, who were trying to contact Patidar. When Patidar reached out to Manish to reclaim his number, the boys didn’t believe him, and gave him a satirical retort, “And we’re MS Dhoni,”. The situation escalated until Patidar threatened to involve the police, prompting the local authorities to intervene and facilitate the return of the SIM card to the MP cricketer.
Reflecting on the incident, Khemraj described the experience as a dream come true: “I got to speak to Kohli because of a wrong number. My life’s goal is complete,” he told NDTV.
