India find themselves playing catch-up with Australia once again in the ongoing white-ball tour Down Under. After a solid batting display in the opening game of the T20I series in Canberra before incessant rain forced the umpires to call off the game, the Indian batting department collapsed like a house of cards at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday, getting bowled out for a paltry 125.
Had it not been for Abhishek Sharma’s explosive 68 and Harshit Rana’s surprise cameo of 35, the visitors might have not have even made it past 100. And while India did fight back with the ball later in the evening, all it took was one explosive opening partnership between captain Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head in the powerplay to lay the foundation for a successful chase.
The two teams will be in action again on Sunday at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart, Tasmania. It’s not quite a must-win situation yet for Suryakumar Yadav and company given a second consecutive defeat will not necessarily translate to another series loss. The Men in Blue, however, will need to win this contest if they are to keep their chances of winning the series alive.
Will rain wash another game out in the ongoing T20I series?
There’s also the scenario of rain making yet another appearance in the ongoing tour and possibly leading to another washout – which would effectively reduce a five-match series to a three-match affair.
But what are the chances of weather playing spoilsport on Sunday?
Accuweather doesn’t predict any rain throughout Sunday in the Tasmanian capital, but there’s a slight possibility of a passing shower later in the evening. Hobart is expected to receive some rainfall, but in the early hours on Monday, long after the two teams have packed up and returned to their hotels.
Expect a full, near-uninterrupted contest between the two sides a few hours from now.
