Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) take on the champions of the inaugural edition, Rajasthan Royals (RR), in their first and overall third match of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL).

Both teams finished at the bottom of the table last year, with each earning eight points. CSK, with a worse net run rate, finished at the last spot while RR ended at the ninth position. Both teams have made a few big moves in the offseason to bolster their squads.
RR got back their ‘superstar’ Ravindra Jadeja, while Sanju Samson moved to CSK in the biggest two-way trade in IPL history. RR also added Ravi Bishnoi to their squad while CSK spent big on young players in the auction. Ruturaj Gaikwad is leading CSK and Riyan Parag has replaced Samson as the RR captain.
CSK are also struggling with injuries to key players. Nathan Ellis has been ruled out of the tournament. MS Dhoni is out for a few weeks while Dewald Brevis too will miss out on the first couple of matches.
