There was a heated moment at The Oval in London just two days before the fifth and final Test between India and England. India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir got into a verbal argument with the ground’s chief curator, Lee Fortis. The incident happened during the team’s practice session on Tuesday, July 29.
Gambhir’s involved in heated altercation
In a video going viral online, Gambhir can be seen in a tense exchange with Fortis near the pitch area. The exact reason behind the argument is not confirmed yet. It appears that the altercation may be related to the pitch conditions or how the surface was being prepared for the final Test.
“You can’t tell us what to do! You can go and report to whoever you want, but you can’t tell us what to do,” Gambhir was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
India are currently trailing 2-1 in the five-match series. The fourth Test ended in a draw at Old Trafford and the final match at The Oval is their last chance to level the series. All eyes will now be on Thursday, July 31, when the two teams take the field for one last time in this thrilling series.

“You are asking someone who only believes in results,” Gambhir said. “I’ve said that in the past as well, that I believe in results. We are still 2-1 down in the series. This is the Indian team. Yes there is inexperience but this is still the best Indian team right now. So for me, I think we are still down 2-1. And hopefully we can try and make it 2-2. That’s going to be a good achievement.
