Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal described India as a country of “wonderful people” but one that was held hostage by “one man” and his politics. Another ex-Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali, meanwhile, congratulated Congress’ Rahul Gandhi in advance, expecting the recent military showdown between India and Pakistan to cost Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party – the Bharatiya Janata Party in the next General Election.

Akmal says ‘Indians should worry about economy’

“We’ve gone on a number of tours. India is a country of wonderful people. One person is putting the entire country on the line for his politics. People have to decide what’s better for India, how the country will be run, how to keep the economy stable and how to build relations,” Akmal said in a show hosted by news anchor Waseem Badami on ARY News, where Basit was also a panelist.

“The future of a billion people is in the hands of one foolish person and he’s playing with everyone,” presenter Badami said in response to Akmal’s comment.

The comments came nearly a week after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire after more than three days of hostilities, during which the Indian armed forces carried out precision strikes at several terror camps and air bases besides targeting the air defence and radar system.

Pakistan, on the other hand, had resorted to indiscriminate firing at civilian areas in Jammu and Kashmir and other states that share a border with Pakistan. The Pakistan military claimed to have downed several Indian fighter jets the Rafale jets that New Delhi had recently acquired and caused significant damage to the Indian air force bases in Udhampur and Nagrota.

While Islamabad is yet to furnish proof of destroying Indian fighter jets the way New Delhi has been providing satellite images to highlight the damage caused to Pakistan Air Force bases including the Nur Khan base in Rawalpindi, India has completely debunked claims of their air bases being damaged.
