Akash Deep bowled his heart out at Edgbaston. With Jasprit Bumrah resting for this match, many had doubts about India’s bowling attack. But Akash and Mohammed Siraj proved everyone wrong. Akash took 6 for 99 in the second innings and ended with match figures of 10 for 187. Siraj also impressed, picking up seven wickets in total, including a six-fer in the first innings.

After the match, Akash Deep dedicated his 10-wicket haul to his sister, who is suffering from cancer. “My sister has been diagnosed with cancer and the last two months have been very difficult. I will dedicate this match to her. I want to see her smile and hope this helps,” he said.

“Every time I ran in to bowl, I saw her face in my mind,” he added. The 28-year-old was playing just his eighth Test match for India.

India had lost the first Test in Leeds, but bounced back strongly in the second match. Captain Shubman Gill led from the front with an incredible 430 runs across two innings, while the bowlers backed him up with fiery spells on a flat pitch to take all 20 wickets. The third Test match is scheduled to be played at the iconic Lord’s cricket ground from 10 July.
