Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla was forced to intervene after Digvesh Rathi and Abhishek Sharma were involved in a spat during the Indian Premier League (2025) on Monday in Lucknow. At the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were knocked out by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as the home team lost by six wickets, but not before the on-field spat between Digvesh Rathi and Abhishek Sharma.
Digvesh Rathi’s trademark notebook celebration has become a rage this IPL 2025 and the 25-year-old Delhi spinner repeated it after dismissing Abhishek for 59 during the 206-run chase. Rathi, however, went a step forward after getting Abhishek caught in deep cover as he waved goodbye to him, and this irked the departing batter.

Both cricketers were involved in a heated argument on the pitch, which forced the on-field umpire to intervene. The tension continued after the match during the customary handshakes as Abhishek kept complaining about the incident.
However, both players reconciled and cleared the misunderstanding later with the help of BCCI vice-president Shukla. In the images going viral on social media, Shukla can be seen having a chat with Rathi and Abhishek.

In reply, SRH raced to the target in just 18.2 overs as Abhishek smashed a fifty, Heinrich Klaasen blasted 47, while Ishan Kishan (wk) and Kamindu Mendis scored 35 and 32 respectively.
While SRH had already been knocked out of the playoffs race, LSG’s campaign ended on Monday.
It is time for introspection now for the franchise and to assess where things went wrong for them. After investing Rs 27 crore in Pant, they would have hoped for a massive return, but the keeper-batter has only scored 135 runs in 12 matches at a strike rate of 100.
