A photo of former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria has reportedly been removed from the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur. As per a report in India Today, former leg-spinner Kaneria’s photo was removed from Jaipur stadium recently and while the publication did not claim why the photo was removed, it added that the decision was take amid the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan.
The report also did not share why the Jaipur stadium had a photo of Danish Kaneria in the first place as the former Pakistan cricketer never played an international match at the stadium. Kaneria played six Test matches in India between 2005-2007 and at venues like Mohali, Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru. He played two ODIs in India, in Jamshedpur and Ahmedabad.
Overall, Kaneria played 11 Tests and two ODIs against India, taking 44 wickets.
Kaneria’s career came to an end in 2012 after he was found guilty of spot-fixing in county cricket . Overall, he played 61 Tests and 18 ODIs for Pakistan, taking 261 and 15 wickets respectively.
Kaneria has been a vocal critic of Pakistan
Kaneria, who was the second Hindu cricketer to represent the Pakistan national team after Anil Dalpat, has been quite vocal against his country since the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
“If Pakistan truly has no role in the Pahalgam terror attack, why hasn’t Prime Minister @CMShehbaz condemned it yet? Why are your forces suddenly on high alert? Because deep down, you know the truth — you’re sheltering and nurturing terrorists. Shame on you,” he wrote on X.
Earlier, he had also shared stories of religious discrimination in the Pakistan team and that Shahid Afridi also asked him to convert to Islam.
“I was doing well in my career and was playing county cricket too. Inzamam-ul-Haq supported me a lot and was the only captain who did so. Alongside him, Shoaib Akhtar. Shahid Afridi and many other Pakistan players troubled me a lot and didn’t eat with me. Shahid Afridi was the main person telling me to convert, and he did a lot of times. Inzamam-ul-Haq never used to talk that way,” Kaneria said earlier.
