Chennai Super Kings full squad after auction: CSK had earlier parted ways with two legendary spinners ahead of the retention deadline on 15 November – with Ravichandran Ashwin retiring from the IPL and Ravindra Jadeja being traded to Rajasthan Royals along with Sam Curran in exchange for Sanju Samson. Curran’s departure also meant that the ‘Yellow Army’ were on the lookout for a quality seam-bowling all-rounder in addition to world-class spinners.

Samson’s arrival, however, marks a significant moment for CSK, with the former RR captain potentially being seen as the face of the franchise in the years to come. Meanwhile, legendary wicketkeeper and former captain MS Dhoni – the man responsible for leading the side to five IPL titles – has been retained for another season, and it remains to be seen if he makes his final appearance as an active cricketer next summer.
