Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are reportedly interested in signing Sanju Samson as their next wicketkeeper for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. With MS Dhoni expected to retire soon, CSK are looking at long-term options and Samson seems to be at the top of their wishlist.

As reported by Cricbuzz, a senior CSK official confirmed that the franchise is seriously considering Samson but has not yet spoken to Rajasthan Royals (RR) regarding the trade. The official said that they have not decided which player they would trade for him, but they are very much interested in doing so.

“We are definitely looking at Sanju. He is an Indian batter, who is a keeper and an opener. So if he is available, we will certainly have a look at the option of having him in our fold. Who we will trade him with we have not taken that call because the matter has not gone that far. But yes, in principle, we are interested,” a CSK official was quoted as saying.

CSK not the only team interested in Samson

Samson is Rajasthan’s captain and their top retention at Rs 18 crore. It won’t be easy to get him from RR. The report also suggests that CSK are not the only team interested in Samson’s services. At least two other franchises have reportedly shown interest and may have already contacted the RR management.

The IPL trading window is currently open and will stay open until one week before the next auction. During this time, teams can trade players. If more than one team is interested in the same player, the decision will be made by the selling team. The player must also agree for a trade to happen.
