  • The second new ball changed things for the touring team on Day 1 as Anderson then came to life. He was well supported by Stokes as the pair hunted down 9 wickets between them. England now would like to bat well and big to take a big lead. The wicket does have something on offer for the pacers but is not a bad one to bat on. The home side has 4 good pacers in their ranks and we can surely expect an interesting passage of play here. Stay tuned.
  • Windies though did manage to add a few handy runs this morning, they will be disappointed with their overall performance. One can say they have finished with a score slightly under par as they should have had a lot more especially after their top order batted well. 40s from their openers and 50-plus scores from Hetmyer, Chase and Hope saw them well-placed at 240 for 4. Although none went on to make it big and the lower order failed to contribute much. As a result, their first innings' total remained under 300.
  • The English side is seen walking off with happy faces and they are led off the field by the pacer who bagged a fifer here, James Anderson. A standing ovation for him by the crowd and he deserves every bit of it. Meanwhile, England have asked for a light roller.
  • 101.3 OUT! Gone! No hundred for Hetmyer. Caught behind acrobatically by Foakes diving to his left. A fuller length ball on leg and moving away from the lefty, he goes for the full throttle and gives a wild slog. The ball takes the outside edge and it flies to the left of Foakes who takes a lovely catch. Stokes ends with four wickets of his own. WINDIES END ON 289. The last 5 batsmen together have contributed exactly 5 runs from their willows. 3 ducks and the number 11 remained not out on 0. Only Holder got off the mark. An innings that began with a lot of promise ends quite less than what it should have actually gone on to be.
  • 101.2 Aimed at the hips once more, flicked away to fine leg by the southpaw but the single is not taken.
  • 101.1 Short of a length ball on middle, Hetmyer was lining up for a big shot but decides against it in the end.
  • 100.6 Well outside off to end the over, left alone by the no. 11 bat. 289/9
  • 100.5 Length ball on middle, a front foot defense by Gabriel back towards the bowler.
  • Shannon Gabriel is the last man to walk in.
  • 100.4 OUT! There it is. That is the breakthrough and also the fifth wicket for Anderson. The 27th time he has done in Tests. A typical Jimmy wicket, bowls this one on a good length outside off and makes it tail away very slightly. Too good for the number 10 batsman who pokes at the ball. The ball goes to Buttler at third slip in a good height. He pouches it easily and England after a frustrating 10 overs have finally broken through. The stand worth 25 has ended.
  • 100.3 Just short of a good length above middle stump, Alzarri trusts the bounce and lets it go.
  • 100.2 Hurls this one on a length down the leg side, left alone by the batsman this time.
  • 100.1 Fuller length ball outside off, driven back towards the cover fielder by Joseph.
  • 99.6 FOUR! Into the 80s is Hetmyer. However, he would have preferred a single here. This is short again on middle, Hetmyer makes room and then flat-bats it over the bowler's head. Safest area to hit as there is no fielder. A boundary. 289/8
  • 99.5 A bumper now on middle, Hetmyer evades it.
  • 99.4 NOT OUT! Ultra Edge shows nothing there! So not sure what the sound was. Shimron survives to fight another day. Excellent use of the review from him. This is a short delivery outside off. Hetmyer tries to guide it down to third man. There is a noise as the ball passes the bat, an appeal follows and the umpire raises his finger. SH reviews straightaway. Replays roll in and it shows that there was no bat involved.
  • Hetmyer has been caught behind and it has been given out by the umpire. There was surely some sort of noise on that but the batsman has taken it upstairs for some reason. Maybe he feels he has not touched it. Let's wait for the replays.
  • 99.3 Length ball on the middle, pushed to cover.
  • 99.2 Peach! Lovely shape from Stokes on this ball. Landed it on middle and got it to swing away and beat the outside edge of Shimron who was trying to defend from the crease.
  • 99.1 Outside edge from Hetmyer once more but this time the ball runs all along the ground wide of the slip present. Third man stops the ball but there is no single taken by the batsmen.
  • 98.6 As has been the case all morning, Joseph keeps out the last ball of the over well as he defends this length ball on middle from the crease. 285/8
  • 98.5 Wide outside off, guided towards the third man for a single by Shimron.
  • 98.4 Another ball outside off that is left alone by the southpaw.
  • 98.3 The batsman shoulders arms to let that one through.
  • 98.2 Hetmyer is living a charmed life here. Goes for a lofted shot over mid off to this ball outside off on a fuller length. Gets a thick outside edge but the ball goes over first slip. There is a very fine third man who stops the ball. The single is not taken though.
  • 98.1 Wide outside off and moving even further away, Shimron chases after the ball looking to cut but can't connect.
  • 97.6 Beaten! This is a better ball just outside off and moving away slightly, Joseph plays inside the line and is beaten on the outside. 284/8
  • 97.5 Very wide outside off, Alzarri goes after the ball but cannot get bat on ball.
  • 97.4 Joseph stands in his crease and defends this ball towards short leg.
  • 97.3 Brilliant effort from Rory Burns. Hetmyer cuts this one very late and places it wide of third man to his left. The fielder runs and dives before stopping the ball. Saves three there as the batsmen stopped running after one looking at the ball. Poor cricket from the Windies.
  • 97.2 Full toss but Hetmyer misses out this time. Mistimes his attempted lofted shot towards mid-wicket. The ball runs towards the bowler.
  • 97.1 A fuller length ball outside off, Hetmyer comes ahead and defends the ball onto the ground.
  • 96.6 Much better defensive technique this time from Alzarri. 283/8
  • 96.5 Hit on the pads but the ball was doing too much this time. Height was a factor too on this length ball that landed outside off and came in a long way. Joseph looked to defend the ball but missed it to get hit on his pads.
  • 96.4 The batsman has driven it through mid on and they have run through for a single.
  • 96.3 Left alone by SH outside off on this occasion.
  • 96.2 A front foot defense attempted by Shimron but the ball takes the inside edge and goes onto the pads.
  • 96.1 FOUR! Another lucky one for the southpaw. Bowls this outside off, Hetmyer goes for an expansive cover drive. The ball though takes the outside edge and goes over the head of the slip cordon for a boundary. Windies riding their luck here.
  • 95.6 Another one with good spice here! Bounces a lot and is aimed at the head of the batsman. Tries to fend it off once more but gets a very faint tickle off the glove that carries over the head of the keeper. Goes behind for a single. Replays show that there was daylight between the bat and ball though, but it was given as runs. 278/8
  • 95.5 Good bouncer! Aims this short delivery on the rib region, Hetmyer is really uncomfortable and tries to fend it off uncomfortably. The ball takes the gloves but luckily, it does not carry to the keeper behind.
  • 95.4 Left alone outside the off stump this time.
  • 95.3 FOUR! Brilliant placement from Hetmyer here. A length ball on off stump, Shimron lifts it over the head of an extra cover present but well wide of long off. Runs into the fence after a couple of bounces.
  • 95.2 A fuller length delivery on off stump, pushed back towards mid off by SH.
  • 95.1 Serves this ball outside off, Hetmyer raises his arms and lets the ball go.
  • 94.6 Yorker speared in on the base of off stump, dug out well by Alzarri. Not yet off the mark though. 273/8
  • 94.5 Swinging fuller length delivery outside off, left alone by Joseph.
  • 94.4 Gets to the other end with two balls to go this time. A length ball on off pushed back to long off for a run by Hetmyer.
  • 94.3 Another big shot attempted to a very wide ball outside off. Hetmyer connects only with thin air once more. Looks like a set plan from Anderson.
  • 94.2 Shimron has played that off the front foot and onto the ground.
  • 94.1 Hetmyer chases after this ball wide outside off but misses the ball.
  • 93.6 A length ball on middle kept out successfully by Joseph to end the over. 272/8
  • 93.5 Hetmyer gets to the other end on the fifth ball once more. Guides this length ball outside off towards the deep point region.
  • 93.4 Bouncer on middle, SH ducks under it and lets the ball go.
  • 93.3 Fuller length ball on middle once more, defended onto the ground by the southpaw on his front foot.
  • 93.2 Shimron shoulders arms to let that one through outside off again.
  • 93.1 Wide outside off stump, Hetmyer leaves it alone.
  • 92.6 Easily defends this full one on middle does Alzarri. 271/8
  • 92.5 Driven through the covers this time for a single to deep cover. Hetmyer leaves Joseph with one ball to play.
  • 92.4 FOUR! Smashed back over the bowler's head! Stand and deliver stuff from the southpaw. A full length ball just outside off, the typical Windies flair comes out as he lofts it right back over the head of the bowler for a boundary.
  • 92.3 The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball back on the off side.
  • 92.2 Defended from the crease this time.
  • 92.1 The ball is down the leg side but Hetmyer still goes after it but fails to get any bat on it.
  • 91.6 A length ball on middle, defended back down the ground by Joseph. 266/8
  • 91.5 A slower ball yorker that goes as a full toss. Hetmyer failed to read it but manages to adjust well and work it through square leg for a single.
  • 91.4 A length ball just on top of off stump, defended back down towards the bowler.
  • 91.3 Banged in short outside off, left alone by the batsman.
  • 91.2 Pretty full on middle and Shimron times it really well to the left of mid on where Curran makes a good tumbling stop. An easy single would have been available but is not taken.
  • 91.1 Delivers this one well outside off does Stokes, left alone by Hetmyer.
  • 90.6 Fuller length ball on middle, Alzarri defends it on the front foot. 265/8
  • 90.5 Left alone outside off by the batsman once more.
  • 90.4 Good away swinging delivery outside off, left alone by Joseph.
  • 90.3 A push to mid-wicket by Shimron to this one on the pads. The single is taken this time.
  • 90.2 A solid defense to this one on a length outside off.
  • 90.1 A length ball on middle and slightly coming in, Hetmyer was looking to defend but gets an inside edge that runs to fine leg. The single is not taken.
  • James Anderson to bowl from the other end.
  • 89.6 Yorker but the tail ender manages to keep it out by bringing his bat down just in time. 264/8
  • 89.5 Another one on a good length, Alzarri stays in his crease and defends the ball.
  • 89.4 Joseph comes half ahead and defends this ball onto the ground.
  • 89.3 Lots of inswing first up, but the ball was hurled down the leg side. No problem for the no.10 batsman as he lets it go.
  • The fielders are in position so are the umpires. Alzarri Joseph walks in at number 10 and will take strike against Ben Stokes who has four balls to go in his over.
  • After a see-saw first day, it is the visitors who head into Day 2 with their noses in front. They now have two wickets to take and they would look to pick it as quickly as possible. The hosts on the other hand, do have Hetmyer out there. One would expect him to come out and look for some quick runs. The hosts would hope he can take them close to the 300-run mark. The wicket did show signs of quickening up toward the end of yesterday. It will be interesting to see how it plays today.
  • ... Day 2, Session 1 ...
  • What can we now expect on Day 2? England continuing their domination or the Windies fighting back? Well, they still have Hetmyer out there and they would hope he could somehow take them close to the 300-run mark. England on the other hand, will want to wrap this up quickly and then bat well. The wicket played well throughout but showed signs of quickening up towards the end. Windies won't mind that though as they have four pacers in their rank. We witnessed an exciting day of cricket today and we can be in store for another tomorrow. Do join us at 1000 local (1400 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye!
  • For England, it was hard work for their bowlers today. Anderson was exceptional and was the pick of the bowlers with a four-fer. He was well-supported by Stokes who bowled his heart out and ended with a three-fer. The rest though weren't at their best, not only did they struggle to take wickets but also went for runs. It would have been a different story had they bowled well too.
  • Windies on the other hand will be disappointed with where they have finished Day 1. They won a good toss and elected to bat, everyone in their top order except for Bravo came to the fore. They seemed like they would get a very good first innings score but they needed someone to score a big one. However, their batters failed to do so, everybody got starts but could not covert and 4 wickets for 24 right at the end suddenly finds the hosts in trouble.
  • This session - 37.3 overs, 132 runs and 5 wickets. What a turnaround we saw in this last session, actually in the last 10 overs I should say. It was all going smoothly for the hosts when Hetmyer and Chase were going along pretty well but then England decided to take the second new ball and then it was all about them. Anderson took three in no time and then Stokes chipped in with one. Barrage of wickets towards the end sees the day belong to the visitors.
  • 89.2 OUT! Stokes strikes now in the last over of the day! A brute of a delivery this one. It is banged in slightly short, takes off after pitching. Roach looks to defend but can't get on top of the bounce. It hits the handle and goes straight into the hands of Root at first slip. His third catch. Roach walks back and with him so do the other players and the umpires as IT IS STUMPS ON DAY 1!
  • 89.1 On middle, it is worked towards mid-wicket for a run.
  • 88.6 Good length again on middle, it is worked to mid-wicket. 263/7
  • 88.5 NASTY! Back of a length ball, it keeps on rising after pitching. Roach tries to defend but is hit on the glove due to the extra bounce.
  • 88.4 Tucked around the corner for a run.
  • 88.3 Back of a length on off, Hetmyer is solid in defense.
  • 88.2 On the pads, it is worked to square leg.
  • 88.1 The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
  • 87.6 KR tries to play at this one just outsid off but lets it go in the end. 262/7
  • 87.5 Fuller yorker length ball on off stump, Roach comes ahead and defends with a straight bat.
  • 87.4 That one took off from nowhere! Bounces on a length outside off and then rockets off. Foakes collects it over his head.
  • 87.3 Another ball outside off and Kemar is content in leaving it.
  • 87.2 Wide outside off to the tail ender, Roach lets it go through.
  • 87.1 Good one on a length and coming in slightly late, Hetmyer jams it towards backward point for a single.
  • Kemar Roach walks out to bat at number 9.
  • 86.6 OUT! Anderson is on fire here! The Windies batsman are now falling like nine pins. Four-fer for Jimmy and it is his third with the second new ball. He goes full again around off, Holder looks to drive but then checks his shot, maybe because he wasn't to the pitch of the delivery. Ends up chipping it to the right of Anderson who takes a sharp catch in his followthrough. The Windies have completely lost their way here. England now into the tail. 261/7
  • 86.5 On off, kept out.
  • 86.4 The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
  • 86.3 Edged but once again it falls short. On a length and around off, Holder looks to defend but due to the away movement. The ball takes the outside edge and goes on the bounce to second slip.
  • 86.2 FOUR! Uppish but a boundary. Holder uses his long reach and then drives it square on the off side. A huge gap there and a boundary results.
  • 86.1 Excellent! Continues bowling in the corridor of uncertainty. Holder defends it out.
  • 85.6 Very full ball outside off, SH drives this but cannot find the gap through the covers. 257/6
  • 85.5 This time Jason works it away through the square leg region for a single.
  • 85.4 Another full length ball on middle, Holder looked to flick that one but missed to get hit high on the pads.
  • 85.3 On the pads this time, flicked away wristily for a single to deep mid-wicket.
  • 85.2 FOUR! Does not time this one too well but the ball goes wide of the cover fielder and runs away to the fence. The third man fielder cannot come around. It brings up the FIFTY for Hetmyer. His fifth in Test cricket. A great innings so far but he should not throw it away like the guys before him.
  • 85.1 Fuller one outside off, Shimron drives it straight to the cover fielder.
  • 85.1 No ball! A very high full toss, Hetmyer is surprised by it. The umpire immediately calls it no ball. Stokes is quick to apologize but that will not prevent him from getting a warning.
  • Jason Holder, the skipper walks in next. Also, Ben Stokes will bowl the next over. Only two overs with the new ball for Curran.
  • 84.6 OUT! In the air... gone! Another one bites the dust and once again, England manage to take two in quick succession. The decision of taking the second new ball is proving to be a master stroke here. The leg cutter from Anderson, it is on middle, it takes off after pitching. Dowrich initially thinks of pulling but then seeing the extra bounce, takes his eyes off the ball. It hits the upper part of the bat and lobs towards the slip cordon. Buttler from third slip runs in and takes a dolly. England ending the day on a good note here. 250/6
  • 84.5 Once again it is on off, Dowrich strokes it to covers.
  • 84.4 Good length outside off, left alone.
  • 84.3 Goes fuller but does not get the desired movement. It is stroked to mid off.
  • 84.2 JAFFA! Banana swing there. Length which starts on middle, it shapes away and beats the outside edge of the bat. Beautiful seam position on that delivery and the curve on the ball was also delightful to watch.
  • 84.1 Good length and on middle, it is worked to mid on.
  • 83.6 FOUR! Dismissed! A length ball on the off stump line, Hetmyer just punches it back down towards long on. No one moved. The ball reaches the fence. Brilliant batting this. The 250 comes up for the hosts with that shot. 10 runs off that over, an expensive one from Curran. 250/5
  • 83.5 Wow! What an innovative shot! A fuller length ball on middle and Hetmyer chips it in the air over mid on for a couple of runs. This is how this guy plays.
  • 83.4 The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the backfoot.
  • 83.3 FOUR! A creamy cover drive through the gap wide of the cover fielder. Fuller length ball outside off, Shimron comes ahead and a brilliant shot followed.
  • 83.2 Very full and driven straight back down the ground towards the bowler.
  • 83.1 A short of a length delivery on top of middle stump, Hetmyer defends off the back foot.
  • 82.6 On a good length around off, Dowrich gets right behind the line and blocks it. 240/5
  • Shane Dowrich is in at number 7.
  • 82.5 OUT! Chase is out of here! Anderson strikes in his second over with the second new ball. He is a class act this guy. The last one came back in sharply, this one goes away and Chase had no answers to it. The length and line is also immaculate. Around off and just behind the driving length. Chase is half forward as he tries to defend. The ball takes the outside edge and goes at a comfortable height to Joe Root at first slip. He takes it with ease. Chase starts walking back but the umpire ask him to wait as they want to check for the no ball. It is just about fine and Chase has to continue his walk back. Another promising stand has been cut short. A good innings from Roston comes to an end. The Windies though would have loved more. Half the side back in the hut for the hosts. Can England pick a couple more before Stumps? 7 overs more to go after this one.
  • 82.4 The in-dipper this time, jags back in sharply from middle, Chase tries to flick but misses to get hit high on the thigh pad.
  • 82.3 Edged but well short again! Played that with soft hands. Length ball on off, Chase tries to defend but the ball goes off the outside edge and on the bounce to second slip.
  • 82.2 Fullish and on off, it shapes away a touch. Chase looks to drive but the ball goes off the inner half back to the bowler.
  • 82.1 On the shorter side and outside off, Chase stands tall and punches it through covers for a run.
  • 81.6 On the shorter side and on the pads, Chase looks to flick but misses to get hit on the thigh pad. It rolls towards fine leg, the batsmen run a leg bye. 240/4
  • 81.5 FOUR! Poor bowling and easy pickings for the batsman. Full and on the pads, it did swing back in late but the line was wrong. Chase flicks it to the fine leg fence.
  • 81.4 Nicely bowled! He usually gets the ball to tail back in, this time he gets it to leave the batsman from outside off, Chase plays inside the line and gets beaten.
  • 81.3 Sweetly timed! Full and on off, Hetmyer strokes it through mid off, Ali gives it a chase and manages to save a run for his side.
  • 81.2 On the pads, it is worked around the corner for a run. Brings up Chase's 7th fifty in Tests. A vital knock as he came out when the Windies lost two quickly. He needs to carry on though.
  • 81.1 Full and tailing back in, Chase misses the flick and gets hit high on the back pad. An appeal follows but nothing from the umpire.
  • Sam Curran is back on.
  • 80.6 Outside off this time, Hetmyer lets it be. End of the first over with the second new cherry, not a threatening one. 231/4
  • 80.5 Good length on off, Hetmyer is solid in defense.
  • 80.4 Fuller this time and there is a hint of movement away from the batsman. Chase tries to drive but it goes off the inner half towards square leg for a run.
  • 80.3 On middle, Chase strokes it to mid on. Not a lot of swing visible in the first three balls bowled with the second new ball.
  • 80.2 Back of a length on off, Chase stands tall and punches it to covers.
  • 80.1 Good length on off, it is defended.
  • The second new ball is now available. The English side are seen in a huddle and now it Anderson who comes into the attack. Also, the second new ball has been taken. Not sure what the meeting was about, maybe a discussion whether to take the second new cherry or now.
  • 79.6 Another googly on leg stump, Shimron reads it and defends it with a straight bat back to the bowler. 230/4
  • 79.5 Googly on the pads, Hetmyer sweeps it away fine on the leg side for a couple of runs. Good running that, late in the day.
  • 79.4 Goes slower through the air on this one to Hetmyer, the batsman waits patiently and keeps it out.
  • 79.3 Short one outside off, cut away to the deep cover-point fielder for a single.
  • 79.2 Defended off the front foot by Chase presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 79.1 Flighted ball on off stump and slight turn on it. Chase waits for the ball and defends it.
  • 78.6 This one is slightly slower on off stump, SH pushes it back towards the bowler. 227/4
  • 78.5 Chase drives this beautifully through the covers but a fielder is present in the deep and only a single can be taken.
  • 78.4 Flatter and quicker again on off stump, Shimron punches it towards long off. Straightish cover half-stops it but cannot prevent the single.
  • 78.3 Quicker one on the off stump line, Hetmyer comes ahead and dead-bats this.
  • 78.2 Flighted outside off, cut away by Roston to deep point for a single.
  • 78.1 Hurled in on the pads this time by Root, Chase misses his flick and gets hit on the pads. The ball runs fine for a couple of leg byes. It brings up the 50-run stand between these two.
  • 77.6 Tosses this one up, Chase tries to defend this one coming ahead. It takes a thick outside edge and runs wide of slip for a single. 222/4
  • 77.5 The southpaw has driven it through mid off. One run added to the total.
  • 77.4 Flighted ball on middle and leg, Hetmyer defends it onto the leg side with soft hands.
  • 77.3 Drifts onto the pads this time, RC works it fine on the leg side for a run.
  • 77.2 Flatter one on middle, Roston gets the inside half of the bat as he tried to drive this ball towards mid on.
  • 77.1 Flatter one on the off stump, Chase lets the ball come onto his bat as he defends.
  • 76.6 Fires it on the stumps, Hetmyer punches it back to the man at covers. 219/4
  • 76.5 This is eased down to long on for a run.
  • 76.4 On the middle pole, Chase drives it back to the bowler.
  • 76.3 Quicker and on off, Chase blocks it.
  • 76.2 Fuller in length this time, it is stroked to covers.
  • 76.1 On off, defended.
  • 75.6 Finds the gap through mid on for a single. Chase will face the first ball of the next over. 218/4
  • 75.5 Driven through the covers by RC.
  • 75.4 Flatter ball on middle, defended off the back foot by Chase.
  • Run-out appeal from the bowler as he gets a fingertip on a very straight drive from the batsman and angles it onto the stumps...It has been taken upstairs. It seemed that Hetmyer had his bat in the crease all along though.
  • 75.3 NOT OUT! As we thought so. The ball was flighted on middle, Chase hits it back hard down the ground. Rashid gets a finger tip on it and it hits the stumps at the non-striker's end. Luckily though for Windies, Hetmyer is not backing up and his bat is grounded in the crease. The green signal flashes.
  • 75.2 Wide outside off stump, the batsman leaves it alone.
  • 75.1 Slower through the air outside off, Hetmyer cuts it away to deep point for a single.
  • 74.6 Hurls this pacy and well outside off, Shimron cuts this away to deep point for a single. Quick, quick over that from Root. Looks like he is trying to get to the second new ball really quickly. 216/4
  • 74.5 Chase works this flatter and quicker ball on the leg side for a single. He gets to the other end.
  • 74.4 The southpaw is ahead in defense to this fuller one outside off but the ball goes off the inside edge towards the leg side for a single.
  • 74.3 Another quicker one just outside off, SH is on the back foot as he punches it towards cover.

Meanwhile, Windies would like Chase to remain solid and Hetmyer to make the most of the life given to him. Let us wait and watch what happens in the final passage of play today...
  • 68.6 Now strokes this down to long on and takes a run. Smart batting. 186/4
  • 68.5 SIX! Jos Buttler won't enjoy watching this but we surely enjoyed this shot. Hetmyer uses his feet for the third time in a row, this time gets to the pitch of it and lofts it over the long on fence. This is how he plays, he stays for longer, we are in for some entertainment.

  • 65.3 Good length on off, Hetmyer is solid in defense.
  • Shimron Hetmyer is out to the middle at number 6.
  • 65.2 OUT! Anderson gets Windies' talisman. From 126 for 1, Windies are now 174 for 4. Hope fails to convert and he trudges off slowly, disgusted with himself is the no. 3 batsman. He probably takes along with him the hopes of the Windies getting to a big first innings score. Anderson on the other hand is a delighted man. He is finally rewarded for continuously bowling in the avenue of apprehension. It is once again bowled there, this one comes back in a little. • 60.3 Slightly overpitched again, this is closer to the off pole and hence, Chase times it to mid off.
  • 60.2 FOUR! Back-to-back boundaries! Easy this. A full toss this time on off, Chase once again strokes it through covers to fetch himself another boundary.

  • ... Day 1, Session 3 ...
  • EARLY TEA has been taken due to the rain stoppage. This session has gone to the visitors and more so, Ben Stokes in particular. He removed the well-set Brathwaite first and then got rid of Darren Bravo who returned to whites after a very long time. Shai Hope is looking solid in the middle but will need partners to ensure Windies don't throw away the good work done in the morning session. Hopefully the rain will clear away quickly and we resume post the time allotted for Tea.

An appeal follows and the umpire raises his finger. Bravo walks back without even thinking of reviewing it as he knew he was a dead duck. He does not trouble the scorers a lot and a poor return to the team for him.

  • ... Day 1, Session 2 ...
  • The visitors on the other hand, did not look at their best. There was swing on offer earlier for their bowlers but they could not capitalize. Moeen Ali is the sole wicket-taker but has not looked that threatening since. England will hope for a few quick wickets after the break. Do join us to find out who dominates Session 2.
  • An excellent session for the Windies, everything right from the toss has gone their way till now. They elected to bat and their openers gave them the ideal start adding 53. It was the debutant, Campbell who did majority of the scoring but missed out on a well-deserved half ton. Hope then carried on the good work and he with Brathwaite who is started to get into his own now are amidst a good stand. Windies would hope the two can continue and build a big stand.

  • 28.3 Eased through covers and the batter takes a single.
  • 28.2 Flatter and outside off, it is kept out.

  • 25.1 A length ball outside off, Hope drives this slightly uppishly but straight towards cover.
  • 24.6 Pushed back to the bowler off the front foot to end the over. Moeen has picked up the only wicket to fall so far but has been considerably expensive as well. 76/1

  • 20.6 Very well defended this time as a follow up to the huge one. Good over for the Windies, 12 off it in the end. 66/1
  • 20.5 SIX! Bratwaite seems to have seen enough now. Comes down the track and lofts this over deep mid-wicket. The ball lands just outside the rope. The first maximum of the game. Moves into the 20s does Kraigg.
  • 20.4 Defended by the batsman coming ahead.
  • 20.3 Another quick single, would have been really tight had mid on hit this time. Uneccessary that, from Windies. Looked like Hope was desperate to get off the mark and hence ran.

  • 18.2 Tosses it up outside off, Hope covers his off stump and makes a leave.
  • Shai Hope walks in at number 3.
  • 18.1 OUT! Plumb in front! The debutant goes 6 shy of a fifty. He was going for his shots and eventually that brings about his downfall as he went for one too many. A full and flighted ball on middle, Campbell goes for the sweep but misses it and gets rapped bang in front of middle. The umpire has no hesitation and raises his finger immediately. The debutant started walking away immediately and with good reason too. It would have been a waste of a review had it been taken as replays show us that it would have hit middle of middle stump. The first one down for the Windies and spin was the reason.
  • 17.6 FOUR! 50 up! Ideal start by the openers. A boundary to bring up the 50-run stand. It is not off the middle though. No gully however so it races to the fence. Full and wide outside off, Brathwaite goes after it, he gets an outside edge and the ball crosses the third man fence. 53/0

  • 15.2 Changes the length and bangs it short, Brathwaite ducks under it.
  • 15.1 Full and outside off, Campbell looks to drive but gets an inside edge down to fine leg and a single is taken. Not sure if unintentionally or deliberately, Campbell is a touch late on his shots against Stokes.
  • Drinks break. A solid hour for the hosts, they have done well to not lose a wicket. There have been a few plays and misses but the important fact is no breakthroughs for the English. The debutant has looked good as well. Expect spin to come on soon.
  • 14.6 This is comfortably left alone by the batsman as the first hour of play comes to a close. 34/0
  • 14.5 Beaten! A beauty from Anderson! Length ball on off, looks like it was coming in but it swings away very late and beats the outside edge of Brathwaite.

  • 12.3 A stifled appeal but nothing from the umpire. On middle and leg, Brathwaite looks to keep it out but misses. The ball hits him high on the pads.
  • 12.2 On the stumps this time, KB gets right behind the line and defends it onto the ground. Good going by the two Windies openers till now.
  • 12.1 Length and a little too wide outside off, it is left alone.
  • 11.6 A good leave! Ben Stokes gets this one to come back in from outside off, the batsman shoulders arms to it. The ball though does not come in enough to hit the off stump. Good delivery though. 30/0

  • 4.6 Peach! An absolute peach from Anderson to end the over. The previous one came in and this one is on a length outside off and holds its line. Campbell tried to put bat on ball but plays for the swing and down the wrong line. The cherry whizzes past his outside edge. Brilliant last two balls from Jimmy. This would have surely put doubts in the debutant's mind. 17/0
  • 4.5 How was that? An appeal from the English is turned down by Rod Tucker. Looked like it was doing a little too much to the naked eye. A full and inswinging ball on middle. They though will want to turn it around starting from this Test, however, it won't be easy against an English side which has started to come into its own under Root's captaincy. They are favourites heading into this game but the Windies can't be ruled out especially in their own backyard.

West Indies Vs England Live Score (TEST) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • Windies now lead by 212 when they come out to bat as they HAVEN'T FORCED THE FOLLOW-ON. They are way ahead in this game at the moment and some sensible batting will probably see them bat England out of the match. The visitors, on the other hand, need to do what their opposition's bowlers did to them or one would believe they would not stand a chance in this game. Do join us in a while for the last session.
  • Not a lot you can write about the England batting. They had no answers to the pace and swing on display. 17 was their highest individual score and only 4 batsman managed to cross the double-digit mark. A sorry display with the bat by them!
  • 9 wickets for 47 runs fell in this session! Roach struck in the first over after the break as he got rid of Burns. England never recovered after that. From 35 for 1 they have been bundled out for 77. It was more of exceptional bowling than poor batting. Roach was the star as he got five. Holder and Joseph also shared 4 between them and Gabriel had the sole wicket of Curran to his name.
  • An absolute demolition there! The Windies bowlers have just rolled back the years. Fast hostile bowling at its best and they get a huge ovation as they walk off the field. Just like Anderson, who took a fifer this morning, it is Roach who leads them off the field. He raises the ball to acknowledge the applause as he walks into the dressing room.
  • 30.2 OUT! ENGLAND HAVE BEEN BOWLED OUT FOR 77. That is the lowest total by any team on this ground. Windies lead by 212 runs and have the option of making England come out to bat again. Coming to this ball, it was bowled just outside off on a good length and it shapes away at the last moment to take the outside edge and go to Holder in at second slip. Joseph picks up his second one to finish off the innings. That will also be TEA on Day 2. Incredible bowling, 9 wickets in the session.
  • 30.1 FOUR! Rashid becomes the fourth batsmen to cross double figures. Flicks this full one away over mid-wicket for a boundary.
  • 29.6 On the shorter side, Anderson gets right behind the line and defends it well. 73/9
  • James Anderson walks in at number 11.
  • 29.5 OUT! No. 9 goes down! An absolute snorter that one. Just too much for Curran. Right on the body of the batsman. Curran takes his eyes off the ball and looks to duck awkwardly, the ball though is too quick and before he gets down, it hits his gloves and lobs towards gully. Hope there runs in and takes it easily. An appeal follows and the umpire raises his finger. Curran starts walking back but he is asked to wait. The umpires want to check if Gabriel is cutting the side crease. He isn't and Curran has to continue his long walk back. No heroics from him and another 17 needed to avoid the follow-on.
  • 29.4 Fullish and on off, Curran drives it square on the off side.
  • 29.3 Another short ball and once again Curran ducks under it.
  • 29.2 Bouncer and on the body of the batsman, Curran ducks under it.
  • 29.1 Fuller and on off, driven back to the bowler.
  • 28.6 DROPPED OR SHORT? By the reaction of the Windies' players, it seems it has fallen just short. Another away swinger on off, Rashid lunges to defend but the ball takes the outside edge. Goes towards Holder who gets low to take it at second slip but the ball lands just short. 73/8
  • 28.5 Down the leg side, Rashid misses the flick and the ball goes to the keeper.
  • 28.4 On the fuller side, Rashid strokes it to covers.
  • 28.3 WOW! Pitches on off and then moves away to square the batsman up as he tries to defend. Gets beaten.
  • 28.2 Well left! It is slightly outside off, Rashid covers his off pole and shoulders arms to it.
  • 28.1 Shortish again on off, Rashid goes back, opens the face of the bat and then guides it to point.
  • 27.6 A ripper to end the over! Lands on off and straightens a lot to beat Curran's outside edge by a whisker. Lovely ball. 73/8
  • 27.5 Bouncer! It is outside off and SC ducks and lets it go through.
  • 27.4 Shortens the length this time and Sam is immediately on the back foot to defend the ball onto the ground.
  • 27.3 FOUR! Too full, and Curran times is right back past mid off. Once it crosses the fielder in the ring, there is no stopping that one.
  • 27.2 Yorker length ball on middle, Sam pushes it back towards mid on.
  • 27.1 Short of a length delivery on off, Curran rides the bounce and defends it onto the ground.
  • Shannon Gabriel comes back into the attack.
  • 26.6 On a back of a length around off, Rashid guides it to point. 69/8
  • 26.5 Some away movement again from outside off, Rashid shoulders arms to it.
  • 26.4 Angles this one into the batter, Rashid works it to mid-wicket.
  • 26.3 This time he is pushed onto the back foot, Rashid opens the face and guides it to point.
  • 26.2 FOUR! Back-to-back boundaries! This time through the off side, full and outside off, Rashid has a go at it. He manages to get it behind point and into the fence.
  • 26.1 FOUR! Stylish flick that! Full and on middle, Rashid uses his wrists and flicks it against the swing and over mid-wicket for a boundary.
  • 25.6 Solid back foot punch but straight to the man at mid off. 61/8
  • 25.5 The tempter way outside off and full, Curran is tempted and goes after it, luckily for him it does not take the outside edge.
  • 25.4 Fuller in length and way outside off, Curran throws his bat at it, guilty of going too hard. The ball goes off the inner half towards mid on.
  • 25.3 A little too short this time, Curran stands tall and defends it onto the ground.
  • 25.2 Fuller this time, Curran is rooted to the crease as he goes for the drive, it goes off the outer half to point.
  • 25.1 On the shorter side, Curran goes back and punches it to covers.
  • 24.6 Twice in a row Rashid is beaten! In the fifth stump channel. Rashid plays inside the line and the ball whizzes past the outside edge. 61/8
  • 24.5 PEACH! Unplayable! You just have to hope that does not take the edge! Length delivery angled into the batsman. Pitches and leaves him. Rashid plays the original trajectory but gets beaten by the away movement.
  • 24.4 Good short ball on middle, Rashid stands tall and defends it onto the ground.
  • 24.3 Another nice delivery! Goes wide of the crease and angles it into the batsman, gets it to shape away late. Rashid tries to defend but it goes off the outer half towards point.
  • Adil Rashid walks in at number 10, he has 10 FC centuries to his name. England would not mind one here.
  • 24.2 OUT! Joseph now has a wicket to his name! Another top, top nut this one and the last recognized batsman for England is out of here. This is in the corridor of uncertainty. Shapes away a touch. Foakes lunges and tries to block but is done in by the movement. It takes the outside edge and Dowrich behind takes a neat catch diving to his right. 29 more needed to avoid the follow-on, 2 wickets in hand.
  • 24.1 On the pads, it is clipped through square leg and the batsmen take one.
  • 23.6 Clips it with the angle to the man at mid on. 60/7
  • 23.5 A nice looking back foot punch to the man at point.
  • 23.4 Back of a length around off, the batter defends it onto the ground.
  • 23.3 Good length outside off, left alone.
  • 23.2 Whizzes past the outside edge! The sucker ball that from Foakes, it is full and outside off. Ben looks to drive but ends up playing inside the line and gets beaten.
  • 23.1 Hits the length hard, gets it to bounce extra, hits the sticker of Foakes' bat as he tries to defend.
  • 22.6 Foakes too is handy and is in decent tough. He now pushes this through cover-point and gets to the other end. 60/7
  • 22.5 On the shorter side, Curran guides it towards point. The fielder there makes a good diving stop to his left, can't stop a run though. Curran has looked to play his shot since he has come out. We have seen how good he is with the bat, need to get him early here.
  • 22.4 On the pads again, it is worked to square leg.
  • 22.3 Back of a length on off, Curran defends it onto the ground.
  • 22.2 FOUR! No, this is not what Windies need. Joseph needs to continue building the pressure, he cannot give away such loose deliveries. It is short and wide outside off, Curran slaps it through covers and the ball races away.
  • 22.1 On the shorter side around off, Foakes pulls it towards wide mid on for a run.
  • Alzarri Joseph to bowl now.
  • 21.6 EDGY FOUR! Welcome runs for England, they will take it any which way. Short and outside off, Curran throws his bat at it, it takes the outside edge and goes over the slip cordon for a boundary. 53/7
  • 21.5 Well bowled and well played! Another short ball which keeps rising after pitching. Curran does well to get on top of the bounce and keep it out.
  • 21.4 Another short one and down the leg side, Curran once again ducks under it.
  • 21.3 A loose stroke that! Roach won't mind it. Full and wide outside off, Curran goes after it away from his body but gets beaten.
  • 21.2 A bumper to welcome Curran, he ducks under it.
  • Drinks break. An insane hour of play since Lunch and Windies have broken the back of England's batting as they have picked up 6 wickets for 19 runs. The famed English lower order will have their toughest test surely. Let alone getting a lead now, will the follow-on be avoided with Roach spitting fireballs here? Everything is going on here at Barbados, you surely do not want to miss it. The next batsman in is Sam Curran, he did it against India last year but he has a big role to play with the bat here.
  • 21.1 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Another one bites the dust. This time it is the man who has most of the times bailed England out of trouble, Jos Buttler. Fifer for Roach, his 9th in Tests and he is on cloud nine at the moment. Another brute of a delivery this, shortish and on off, it keeps climbing on the batsman. Buttler pokes at it and gets an outside edge to the keeper. Into the bowling all-rounders now. The visitors still need another 41 runs to avoid the follow-on. The way the wickets are falling, even that looks farfetched. Never thought I would be writing this.
  • 20.6 On the pads this time and Ben flicks it away off his pads. 49/6
  • 20.5 A good straight drive back down the ground to this full ball on off stump.
  • 20.4 Foakes shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
  • 20.3 Yes, no, yes, no and finally the leg bye is taken. A length ball coming in slightly and Buttler misses his flick and gets hit on the thigh pad. Confusion between the batsmen as they finally complete the leg bye. This is what pressure can do.
  • 20.2 Left alone outside off by the batsman.
  • 20.1 A length ball outside off, swinging away a bit and Buttler plays it with soft hands towards the gully region.
  • 19.6 No hat-trick. A poor hat-trick ball to be honest. He should be making the batsman play but instead bowls it outside off, Foakes makes an easy leave. An excellent over though by Roach. A double-wicket maiden. 48/6
  • Hat-trick ball. Ben Foakes is the batsman.
  • 19.5 OUT! In the air... taken! My colleague did mention, bowl short to Moeen Ali on this pacey wicket and he won't last for long and that is exactly what happened. None of us thought he would depart on the very first ball though. Kemar Roach is amidst a brilliant spell. He has four to his name now and England from 35 for 1 have slipped to 48 for 6. They are in tatters at the moment. Coming to the ball now - it is a fast short delivery, right on the body of Ali. He tries to pull it on the leg side by hopping but the ball takes the top edge and flies down towards fine leg. Joseph in the deep does really well to judge it. He keeps his one eye on where the rope is and takes an excellent catch. A golden duck for Ali and Roach is now on a hat-trick.
  • Moeen Ali walks in at no. 7 with his team in all sorts of trouble.
  • 19.4 OUT! Umpire's call on the Hawk Eye and Stokes will have to walk back. Half of England is back in the dressing room now. Is this even real? Roach has his third and Windies are right on top here. Bowls the previous three balls on a short length and pushes this one to a good length. Stokes is beaten by pace and swing and gets rapped on the back foot. A loud appeal beckons and the umpire thinks a bit before raising his finger. Stokes will review it. The ball goes on to clip the top of leg stump. Hence, could have gone both ways but it is umpire's call and England are in dire straits here. The English supporters have gone quiet.
  • Stokes has been given out LBW! He has reviewed though. Looks close, could go either way. Big moment in the game.
  • 19.3 A back foot defense from within the crease towards the off side by Stokes. Looks for a quick single but it is not available.
  • 19.2 Left alone by the lefty as it is well outside off.
  • 19.1 Left alone once more, Stokes trusting the Barbados bounce as it goes over the off stump.
  • 18.6 Jos takes a couple of paces down the track to defend the ball and prevent it from swinging. Good over. 48/4
  • 18.5 Peach! An absolute peach from the skip that one. Short of a length ball on off and moves away just enough to beat the outside edge of Buttler's willow.
  • 18.4 Almost a similar one to the previous ball but this is hit straight back to the bowler. Holder fields it and shadow practices a throw.
  • 18.3 FOUR! A lovely drive from Jos that. Fuller one on off, Buttler clears his front leg and times it superbly past mid off for a boundary.
  • 18.2 Goes full on the middle stump, Jos comes ahead and flicks it to mid-wicket.
  • 18.1 A good length ball outside off and slightly shaping away, left alone by Buttler.
  • 17.6 Another one that is shouldered arms to by Stokes outside off. 44/4
  • 17.5 Left alone outside off this time by the southpaw.
  • 17.4 Hurls this one down at the pads, Stokes fails to connect his attempted glance and the ball goes off the pad to Dowrich who dives and takes it down the leg side.
  • 17.3 The batsman chooses to leave the ball outside his off stump once more.
  • 17.2 A short of a length ball outside off that is left alone by Ben this time.
  • 17.1 A length ball on middle, Stokes stands tall and defends the ball back down the ground.
  • 16.6 Wide outside off, Buttler drives this after reaching out for the ball. 44/4
  • 16.5 Wide outside off, left alone this time by the batsman.
  • 16.4 A length ball on middle and straightens a tad bit, Jos defends it with soft hands.
  • 16.3 Yorker first up on the off stump line to Buttler, dug out by Jos.
  • Jos Buttler comes in next, replacing his skipper.
  • 16.2 OUT! The big fish is gone too! What a passage of play this is for the hosts. The fast bowlers are turning this game on its head. Joe Root has been caught in front here by his counter-part. A slightly fuller length ball on off and coming in quite a bit, Root is beaten as he plays outside the line and gets rapped on the pads in front of the stumps. A loud appeal and the umpire raises his finger almost immediately. Root goes up to his partner and consults him but then together they decide that it would be a waste of a review so he walks off. Good decision that as the Hawk Eye later shows us that the ball would have gone on to have 3 reds. Windies on fire here and picking 4 seamers doesn't seem such a bad decision now. The visitors still trail by 245 runs and look in a little trouble here.
  • 16.1 Length ball on off and coming in with the angle, Root tries to flick it away but does not get good timing.
  • 15.6 A good solid front foot defense from Stokes to end the over. 44/3
  • 15.5 Beaten this time by the away movement. A length ball just outside off to which Ben is ahead to defend but the ball moves away late and beats the willow by inches. Lovely bowling from Roach and BS is having a tough time here.
  • 15.4 Left alone again but it is too close for comfort. A good length ball outside off and it comes in this time, Stokes shoulders arms to see it go just inches above the off pole. Good leave it will have to be said though.
  • 15.3 Another leave outside the off stump from Stokes. Roach getting the ball to move both ways here.
  • 15.2 Going the other way this time, too wide outside off to make Ben play though.
  • 15.1 A good leave from Stokes trusting the bounce of the surface. A length ball outside off and coming in, left alone by the batsman.
  • 14.6 Tight line and length once again! Back of a length around off, it is blocked. 44/3
  • 14.5 On a length and around off, Root prods forward and keeps it out.
  • 14.4 Another delivery on the shorter side, Root hops and keeps it down onto the ground.
  • 14.3 A little too wide outside off to make the batsman play.
  • 14.2 Right off the middle but straight to the fielder! On off, Root lunges and then strokes it to mid off.
  • 14.1 Good length and on off, Root goes back and defends it onto the ground.
  • 13.6 Bouncer! Stokes evades it by ducking. 44/3
  • Ben Stokes walks in at number 5.
  • 13.5 OUT! Played on again! In fact, elbowed on by Bairstow! Roach is on fire here, what ever he ate at Lunch has helped a lot certainly. A scrambled seam delivery from him once more and it moves in a bit after landing. The ball bounces more as well and beats the inside edge and goes on to hit the elbow. Then, it deflects on the bottom of off stump and the bails are off. Brilliant start for Windies whereas Jonny is standing wondering what has happened there! England like so often recently, find themselves three down early on in their innings. The hosts' fans are also elated and they're dancing in the aisles.
  • 13.4 FOUR! Goes a little too full this time and Jonny is quick to pounce on that one. Bairstow comes ahead and drives this to the right of mid off for a boundary. Good shot!
  • 13.3 Beaten! Good line just outside off and the ball straightens a tad to whiz past the outside edge of Bairstow who was looking to defend it.
  • 13.2 Length ball on middle, defended back down the ground with a straight bat.
  • 13.1 A short length ball outside off, Bairstow pushes it to the right of point who moves and makes a good diving stop, preventing any runs from being taken.
  • 12.6 Goes wide of the crease and angles this one in. It is still outside off, the batsman shoulders arms to it. 40/2
  • 12.5 Fuller and on off, this one also swings away. Root plays it with an angled bat to covers.
  • 12.4 Bends his back on this one as he gets it to bounce a touch extra. Root goes back and guides it to gully.
  • 12.3 Drags his length back and bowls it around off, Root defends it onto the ground.
  • 12.2 FOUR! Off the mark in style! Full and swinging away around off, Root just leans into it and strokes it through covers for a boundary. He did not look to hit it hard there, just let the ball come to him and then just timed it.
  • 12.1 Good length around off, Bairstow tries to defend but it goes off the inner half towards square leg. A run is taken.
  • Jason Holder to continue from the other end.
  • 11.6 Wide outside off stump, Root leaves it alone. 35/2
  • Joe Root, the skipper walks in next.
  • 11.5 OUT! Soft, soft dismissal. Rory Burns has played it on here and Windies have a wicket just after Lunch. Around the wicket to the lefty, Roach delivers this one on a length outside off stump and angles it in slightly. Burns was looking to defend it with soft hands but does not present a full straight bat. The ball bounces a bit more as well and hits the top of the willow before bouncing on to go and hit the top of off stump. Looks gutted, it was the first ball he was facing after the break and he has to depart. This should lift Roach as well as his team. Can they snap up a few more quickly?
  • 11.4 A length ball just outside off, YJB comes ahead and punches it down the ground. Brathwaite at mid off gets his hand to it but cannot stop it fully. The ball runs towards the fence but he chases it and saves a run for his team.
  • 11.3 On the off stump line, Jonny was ahead to defend. The ball runs off the thick inside edge and goes towards square leg. A couple is taken.
  • 11.2 Bairstow lets this one go outside off again.
  • 11.1 A length ball outside off and straightening later, left alone by Jonny.
  • The two batsmen, the fielders and the umpires are back out in the middle. All set for the second session, who will do better? Jonny Bairstow to face Kemar Roach.
  • ... Day 2, Session 2 ...
  • Now what will the two teams look for after the break? England will surely want a partnership to be built so that they can assert their position. The Windies, on the other hand, will need to pick a few quick wickets as this English batting line-up is a long one. Do join us for the afternoon session in a short while.
  • A shared session one can say! It however was all going well for the English side after they bundled out the Windies under 300. Their openers started off in an assured manner but could not score freely. A few minutes before Lunch, Holder sent Jennings back which sees both the sides head into the break pleased with where the match stands at the moment.
  • 10.6 Good delivery to end the session! Goes short this time, Burns looks to leave but the ball gets big on him. He fails to get his hands out in time, the ball hits the handle and then rolls towards gully. Lucky that as it could have lobbed to the fielders in the slip cordon. THAT WILL BE LUNCH ON DAY 2! 30/1
  • 10.5 Closer to the off pole, Burns defends it.
  • 10.4 Another ball way outside off, the batter is not interested in playing at those.
  • 10.3 Outside off, the batsman need not play at those.
  • 10.2 Back of a length on middle, this one comes in with the angle, JB works it around the corner and takes a run.
  • Should be the last over before Lunch...
  • 10.1 Another good delivery, slightly short and it lands around off, pitches and then leaves the batter. Now due to the length, Bairstow has time to adjust to the movement and he makes a leave.
  • 9.6 On the hips this time, YJB works it away to deep fine leg for a single and keeps strike. 29/1
  • 9.5 The batsman has driven this fuller one on off towards mid off.
  • 9.4 FOUR BYES! Poor Shane Dowrich, this will go as a wicket-keeping error whereas in real, he had no chance to reach that ball. It was banged in short by Shannon on middle and leg and the ball moves wildly down the leg side as Bairstow ducked to let it go. Even a full length dive from the keeper couldn't help him reach it.
  • 9.3 Solid defense this time from Jonny coming ahead.
  • 9.2 Oooh! Good line and length this from Gabriel. Just on top of off stump, Bairstow looks to defend towards the off side but gets a thick outside edge towards gully who misfields. No single is taken though, as the point fielder is quick to reach the ball.
  • 9.1 Outside edge but does not carry! A fuller length ball just outside off and straightening a bit. Burns looks to defend with soft hands but gets an edge that falls short of third slip towards his left. A half stop is made but the single cannot be prevented.
  • Jonny Bairstow walks in at number 3.
  • 8.6 OUT! The skipper strikes, he draws first blood here. Jennings who looked nice till now perishes. Very good by Holder, he continues to bowl it on a fuller length, this one is slightly outside off. Keaton once again goes for the drive but with no foot movement. The ball takes a fat outside edge and goes into the hands of Hope at gully. Holder is ecstatic as he provides Windies the breakthrough they desperately wanted before the break. Still a few minutes to go, can they take another? 23/1
  • 8.5 OHHH! Good length there, this was just behind the driving length, Jennings prods forward and looks to drive but gets beaten as it shapes away a touch.
  • 8.4 Outside off, shouldered arms to.
  • 8.3 Shortens his length and bowls it on off, blocked.
  • 8.2 FOUR! No need to run for those! Jennings is looking really good out there. Jason is guilty of bowling a little too full here, Keaton strokes it through mid off and the ball races away.
  • 8.1 Angles this across the batter, Jennings plays inside the line and lets it go to the keeper. Replays show that he was actually beaten there.
  • 7.6 Attacks the off stump on the last ball, defended. 19/0
  • 7.5 Good delivery! Bowls it in the corridor of uncertanity, gets it to straighten. Burns first thinks of playing at it but then pulls his bat out of the way.
  • 7.4 Late onto that shot! Full and outside off, drawing Burns into a loose shot. He is late in bringing his bat down and the ball goes to the keeper.
  • 7.3 Nicely timed! Does not got the fence but three taken. After two back of a length deliveries, Gabriel goes very full. Jennings though is upto the mark, he strokes it past mid off and takes three.
  • 7.2 Another solid looking punch but this time finds the man at point. Batting seems easy right now on this wicket.
  • 7.1 FOUR! Excellent shot! Short and outside off, it bounces at a good height for the batsman. Jennings stands tall and then guides it through point. The ball races away.
  • 6.6 From around the wicket bowls it on middle, Burns works it with the angle towards mid-wicket. So Windies are managing to keep it tight here. 12/0
  • 6.5 A little too straight this time, KJ clips it to mid on for a run.
  • 6.4 Goes back to bowling in-dippers and attacks the stumps. Kept out.
  • 6.3 Angles this one away after bowling two inswingers but it is too wide outside off. Left alone.
  • 6.2 Good length again around off, it comes in again, Jennings easily gets behind the line and defends it.
  • 6.1 Good length and on middle, hint of movement for Holder. Jennings keeps it out.
  • Jason Holder now into the attack.
  • 5.6 Hits the length hard on off, Burns keeps it out. 11/0
  • 5.5 A little too straight this time, Jennings tries to flick but misses. It hits his pads and rolls towards square leg. A leg bye taken.
  • 5.4 Another short ball on middle, it is once again ducked under.
  • 5.3 Change in length by Gabriel, he bangs it short and it has been wided.
  • 5.2 Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 5.1 On off and it is on a length, it is defended.
  • 4.6 Goes back to bowling deliveries he has been bowling so far. Way wide outside off, left alone. 10/0
  • 4.5 BEAUTY! This is what he should keep bowling, this is the length and line is what I mean. It first angles into the batsman from around the wicket which means the batter has to play at it. It pitches and leaves him, Burns is beaten as he plays inside the line.
  • 4.4 2 outside off, one down the leg side and another one outside off. It is once again left alone.
  • 4.3 Overcompensates and bowls it way down the leg side. Wasting the new ball here, need to make the batsman play more.
  • 4.2 Good length again outside off, Burns makes another leave.
  • 4.1 Outside off, the batsman need not play at those.
  • 3.6 Now follows the bumper with a very full delivery on the stumps, it is stroked to mid off. No movement for Gabriel whereas Roach is getting some. 10/0
  • 3.5 A bumper now and it is on the body of the batsman, he ducks under it.
  • 3.4 On the shorter side on off, Jennings defends it off the back foot.
  • 3.3 This is worked with the angle through mid-wicket by Burns and he gets off the mark.
  • 3.2 This is angled into the batter, he tries to flick but misses to get hit high on the pads.
  • 3.1 On off, Burns gets right behind the line and keeps it out.
  • 2.6 In the air... FOUR! First boundary off the bat but it has come in a fortunate manner. Full and wide outside off, Keaton throws his bat at it, it goes off the outer half uppishly towards the point fielder. He dives full stretch to his left but can't reach it. 9/0
  • 2.5 Down the leg side, KJ looks to flick but misses. Two good balls and then a poor one. Does not go for runs though.
  • 2.4 BEATEN AGAIN! Almost an action replay of the last ball. This time though the length was a touch fuller, once again straightens after pitching around off. Jennings is beaten as he tries to keep it out off the front foot.
  • 2.3 Good line! On a length and around off, it straightens a touch. Jennings plays inside the line and gets beaten.
  • 2.2 Good length again around off, Jennings tries to defend but it goes off the inner half towards mid-wicket.
  • 2.1 Too wide outside off to worry the batsman. It is left alone.
  • 1.6 Jennings is away with a nicely judged single! He drops this back of a length ball towards cover-point and retains strike. 5/0
  • 1.5 Fuller this time around off, no swing on offer for the pacer. KJ lunges and defends it onto the ground.
  • 1.4 FOUR LEG BYES! England are underway courtesy extras. On the pads, Jennings looks to flick but misses. It hits his pads and goes down to the fine leg fence.

West Indies Vs England Live Score (TEST) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • A mentally and physically derailed England side have a target of 628 in front of them. They have a little more that 2 days to achieve it. Can they do so? I do not think they can, they are probably batted out of the game and a miracle would be needed even if they are to save this one. Windies on the other hand, will try and repeat their performance of the first innings. Even if they bowl half as good as they did, they could wrap up the game tomorrow itself. Will they once again blow away the batting line-up of the English side or will there be a fight back. Stay tuned to find out.

Maybe when they reach 500? Time will tell. Do join us for the second session in a while.

  • If you ever thought we would enter Day 3 with the hosts comfortably ahead in the game, you should probably buy a lottery ticket. Their lead is close to 350 and another 50 runs or so will probably see them bat the visitors out of the game.
  • ... Day 3, Session 1 ...
  • The hosts now have their captain and a well-set batsman out there. One more partnership will probably see them bat England out of the game. The visitors on the other hand, need to take the remaining wickets quickly if they are to have a chance here. Will the Windies continue their dominance or will the away side fight back? Join us on Day 3 to find out at 1000 local (1400 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye!
  • Windies in their second innings, once again got off to a good start as their openers stitched a fifty-run stand. Just as they seemed like they were running away with the game a collapse is what we witnessed. From 60 for 1 they derailed to 61 for 5. England at that time did sense an opening but Hetmyer and Dowrich counter-attacked. The two added a 50-plus run stand and took the lead above 300. The former perished but one would believe the partnership did the damage.
  • The day however, began with England bundling out the hosts for below 300 with Hetmyer being the top scorer. For England, Anderson and Stokes took one each today. The former finished with a 5-fer whereas the latter with a 4-wicket haul. However, the Windies blew away the English batters courtesy an outstanding spell by Roach. He took 5 and ensured the Windies take a massive lead.
  • What a day of Test cricket did we witness! At the end of it, it is the hosts who are in the driver's seat here. They have a lead of one short of 340 and still 4 wickets in hand.

  • 35.3 A good length ball outside off, left alone.

Windies are effectively 332/6. Can they get one more before Stumps?

  • 25.5 Four on a trot, this bouncer is down leg side though. Left alone.
  • 25.4 Trying to bounce him out Stokes here. Hetmyer sways out of the way once more.
  • 25.3 Another bumper and SH lets it go.
  • 25.2 Bouncer! A reply from Stokes as he goes for the short pitched one to the left-hander. Shimron ducks under it and lets it go.
  • 25.1 FOUR! 'Not many do that to Ben Stokes' says Nasser Hussain on air, and he is right. No one treats the all-rounder with that kind of disdain. A fuller length ball on middle bowled with effort and Hetmyer clears his front leg and smashes it back over mid on for a boundary. This is lovely counter-attacking cricket from Windies. The lead is now 300.
  • 24.6 SD comes ahead and dead-bats this one to end the over. 84/5
  • 24.5 This one is defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 24.4 SIX! Another maximum, the second of this over. 4 boundaries in the last 6 balls. Brilliant shot this, stand and deliver stuff from Dowrich. A flatter one outside off, Shane picks it up and deposits it over the long on fence. The lead is nearing 300.
  • 24.3 Flatter ball on the pads this time, SH comes down the ground and then flicks it away for a single to deep square leg.
  • 24.2 Fired in quick and full on middle, dug out by Shimron.
  • 24.1 SIX! Lifted handsomely over long off! That is 14 off the last 3 balls. This one is flighted outside off and Hetmyer doesn't need a second invite to smash this over the fence for a maximum, the first of this innings.
  • 23.6 FOUR! Two in two! On the pads and easily flicked away to the rope for a boundary to deep square leg. Windies will love the runs that are getting added. 71/5
  • 23.5 FOUR! Every run is vital here and England will be hurt by this boundary. A short length ball outside off, Dowrich is on his toes as he pulls this away to the deep mid-wicket fence.
  • 23.4 The batsman has stood up on his toes to defend that one.
  • 23.3 Well down leg side now and Shane tries to flick but does not get bat on ball.
  • 23.2 Short of a length one on middle stump, Dowrich gets on top of the bounce and fends the ball down.
  • 23.1 Bowls this on a length outside off, defended with soft hands by Dowrich.
  • 22.6 Fired in at the middle stump, Hetmyer digs it out by bringing his bat down in time. An appeal from Ali but nothing more to it. 63/5

  • 22.3 On the pads and flicked away towards the square leg fielder.
  • 22.2 A flatter and quicker one on middle, Hetmyer comes ahead to defend but gets a thick inside edge towards short leg on the bounce.
  • 22.1 Sharp turn there but Hetmyer prods ahead and pads it away.
  • 21.6 Left alone outside off to end the over. Another successful one for England. 61/5
  • 21.5 Shane is on his toes as he flicks this one towards short fine leg.
  • 21.4 Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 21.3 A short of a length ball, Dowrich defends it towards the off side on his back foot.
  • Shane Dowrich walks in at number 7.
  • 21.2 OUT! Stokes has made up for him making his team lose a review here. Jennings has taken this at short leg. Hope is the one to go and that is the 17th wicket to fall today. Windies have slipped from 60/1 to 61/5. 4 wickets for 1 run. Unbelievable stuff this. A length ball on off stump, jags in a bit and Hope who was playing outside the line of the ball, tries to adjust but can only get an inside edge that goes onto the pads and then to Jennings at short leg. A very sharp catch that and England are right back in the game here surely!
  • 21.1 A length ball outside off, Hope defends it off the back foot.
  • 20.6 NOT OUT! Nothing on Ultra Edge and England now have lost both their reviews. Moeen Ali tosses it up around off, it pitches turns and bounce a touch extra. Goes agonizingly close past the gloves. Foakes takes it and then there is an appeal. Stokes is pleading as he feels it is out. The umpire though shakes his head. Stokes wants this to be reviewed and Root does so. Replays roll in and it shows no spike as the ball passes the glove. 61/4
  • Review time. Stokes seems to have heard something and has forced his captain to take this one upstairs. There is a smile on Hetmyer's face though. Did not seem like there was anything on it. Replays awaited...
  • 20.5 Flatter and outside off, Hetmyer leaves it along.
  • Shimron Hetmyer comes in at 6, replacing Chase.
  • 20.4 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Two in the over for Ali and Chase bags a duck. This is tossed up outside off, it pitches and goes straight on. Chase defends for the non-existent turn. The ball takes the outside edge and goes into the big hands of Ben Stokes. A good passage of play for England this.
  • 20.3 Fuller and on middle, it is worked with the turn to mid-wicket.
  • Roston Chase walks in at number 5.
  • 20.2 OUT! Bravo fails in the second innings as well. You just can't keep Stokes out of the game, pockets an easy catch at slip with his bucket hands. A good one with some drift bowled on off stump line, Darren is ahead to defend. Gets a slight edge that carries to Ben at slip. The nightmare return to Test cricket continues for Bravo. England have three quick ones. Can't have enough of saying this, they still need the wickets to keep coming.
  • 20.1 Flatter one on off stump, defended on the front foot by Bravo.
  • 19.6 Hits the length hard again, Hope tries to defend but it goes off the outer half towards gully. 61/2
  • 19.5 Good delivery! On a length and around off, pitches and straightens. Hope tries to defend but gets beaten.
  • 19.4 A little too straight, it is worked around the corner for a run.
  • 19.3 On the shorter side, Bravo evades it.
  • Darren Bravo is the new man in.
  • 19.2 OUT! The Drinks break does the trick for England. A very strange dismissal though and now both the openers are back in the hut. A short delivery by Stokes outside off, it pitches and it might have come slow off the surface. Campbell is way too early into his pull shot. It goes off the toe end towards covers where Jennings takes a dolly. Two wickets in quick succession, they need more here.
  • 19.1 On the fuller side, it is flicked through mid-wicket and the batter takes two.
  • Drinks break. Windies have lost Brathwaite but are surely batting the English out of the game slowly. They lead by 270 now and have all the time in the world. The visitors desperately need a lot of quick wickets. Let's watch what happens in the last passage of play on Day 2...
  • 18.6 The batsman has flicked the ball off his pads. One run added to the total. 58/1
  • 18.5 Just short! Luck too needs to go Windies' way. A hint of turn there after it pitched on off, Campbell goes back and tries to defend. The ball hits the outside edge and lands just short of the diving Stokes.

  • 17.3 On the pad, it is worked around the corner for a run.
  • 17.2 Outside off, left alone.

  • Shai Hope walks in at number 3 for the hosts.
  • 16.5 OUT! Once again Moeen Ali draws first blood! This was plumb in front! Quicker and flatter on off, it turns back in just a touch. Brathwaite goes back and tries to flick. He misses, it hits him on the pads. An appeal follows and the umpire raises his finger. Brathwaite once again walks back after getting a start. England need a few more quickly as the Windies are effectively 264 for 1.
  • 16.4 On the pads, worked to short fine leg,
  • 16.3 Works it with the turn to mid-wicket.
  • 16.2 Flatter and outside off, it is slapped through covers for a run.
  • 16.1 Outside off, left alone.

  • 11.5 Full and on middle, Campbell defends it on the back foot.
  • 11.4 In the air... safe! Lucky there the batsman. Stokes immediately makes something happen here. He bowls a well-directed short ball. Capmbell looks to pull but is late on the shot. It hits the top edge and goes over mid off for a couple.

Poor review, done more due to the desperate situation the team is in maybe. Windies won't mind though. Lovely bowling from James but no reward yet.

West Indies Vs England Live Score (TEST) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • You know the revival of Test cricket is on the brink when the no.8 Test side beats the no.3 side in the world. Windies are most definitely on the up, and despite this loss, we all know England is a team that doesn't stay down for too long. The second Test in Antigua couldn't come sooner. The action begins at 1000 local (1400 GMT). You don't want to miss it, that's for sure. See you then, folks!
  • Man of the Match and Windies captain, Jason Holder, says it's been a good match for him personally. States that the series against Bangladesh was a tough one but he and the team have put in a lot of hard work for the past couple of months which is showing now. Is really pleased with how his team performed as a whole and credits his players for standing up and being counted. Wants to thank his parents for being his biggest supporters and also his two brothers for having his back throughout. Remains humble and says there's plenty of hard work left to be done and the key is consistency.
  • England captain, Joe Root, says he is bitterly disappointed with the result. Adds that there are two important games left in the series and it's imperative that they show character and fight back. Mentions that it's easy in hindsight to say what the team selection should have been, but they have to take responsibility and do better in the next Test. Stresses that they will be ready for the challenge coming ahead but takes a moment to credit the Windies team for playing exceptional cricket in all the four days.
  • It was always going to be a stretch for the Englishmen. Gunning down 628 was a long shot to begin with, so their best shot was to see out a draw. But two full days to bat through are more than enough to do you in, even on good batting conditions. That Windies batting performance was followed up by a clinical and disciplined bowling display. Chase was the star of the show as he picked up career-best figures of 8/60. The start was good for the visitors, but post that, it all went downhill. This is a performance to remember for a long time.
  • Having a lead of 212, the hosts piled the pressure on, with the skipper Jason Holder leading the charge. He had a valiant deputy in Dowrich and the duo went on to add a massive 295 runs between them. The captain scored his maiden double ton in the process while Dowrich crafted a century of his own. It doesn't need to be mentioned that the English bowlers were made to toil hard in that period. It came to the point where the home side had to declare for the innings to end and it set a target of 628 in front of the Three Lions.
  • A fine, fine effort from this resilient Windies side. An emphatic victory in every sense of the word. This might be their best performance in a Test match in recent times. They were right on top from the very beginning. Posted 289 on the board after winning the toss courtesy a collective batting effort, wherein all chipped in with useful knocks and then, much to everyone's surprise, blew a quality side away for just 77 runs with Roach leading the charge with his 5-wicket haul.
  • 80.4 OUT! There it is! WINDIES WIN BY 381 RUNS AND LEAD THE SERIES 1-0! What a win, what a performance! They will be celebrating tonight. Spectacular effort from Jason Holder and his men. Seeing Curran come down the track, Chase bowls it flat and down the leg side, the batsman misses and Hope behind the stumps finishes the formalities.
  • 80.3 FOUR! Too much width on offer outside off, Curran slaps the drives through the covers by reaching out to it and sends it across the boundary line.
  • 80.2 Comes out of his crease to get close to the pitch and pushes it away.

  • 79.6 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery 242/9
  • 79.5 Full on off, blocked away by Anderson.
  • 79.4 NOT OUT! Good review. Tossed up outside off, Anderson brings out the reverse sweep. The ball goes top Holder at second slip. He grabs it and appeals. The Windies player appeal but the umpire turns it down. The go upstairs for the review. To the naked eye it looked like it hit his bat and bumped before going to Holder at second slip. Replays show there was no bat or glove involved. It hit Anderson on the boot. Hawk Eye shows that he survives because the impact was outside by just a feather. Winides retain their review.

  • Shannon Gabriel walks out of the ground. Don't think we will see him again today.

  • 72.1 OUT! What a catch! Blinder! Windies have just sprung to life post Lunch and victory is not far away from them. Also, a 5-wicket haul for Roston Chase! Floats this on off, Buttler looks to flick it away but gets it off the bottom half of the bat. John Campbell at short mid-wicket dives full length to his left and takes a stunner. Jos cannot believe it and Chase picks up the ball and acknowledges the crowd. How long more before we get a result?

  • We are back for the final session of the game and probably this Test match too. Jos Buttler comes out, with his new partner Ben Foakes. Roston Chase to finish his remaining over. Here we go...
  • ... Day 4, Session 3 ...
  • What a session for the Windies. They are edging closer to an emphatic win. 4 wickets in this session - Bairstow, Root, Stokes, Ali all gone. All the bowlers bowled well in this session and kept it tight without giving away any free runs. Roston Chase was the pick of the bowlers, picking up 3 of the 4. England didn't manage to keep their heads above their shoulders and succumbed under the relentless pressure thrown by the Windies bowlers. As a result, they are staring down the barrel and this match could be over today itself. Let's see how it goes.
  • 70.5 OUT! Moeen is a goner. Another duck for Ali. Gets a pair in this match. Short on off, the southpaw tries to cut it but gets an outside edge and the ball goes to Jason Holder at second slip. • 68.6 Flighted on middle, tapped back to the bowler. 215/5
  • Moeen Ali strides out to the middle next.
  • 68.5 OUT! No bat involved and Stokes has to walk back. Tossed up on off, the ball spins in after pitching. Ben Stokes tries to defend it off his front foot but misreads the spins. It hits him low on the pads. The players appeal and the umpire raises the dreaded finger. Stokes thinks for a bit and goes for the review. The replays show there was no bat involved at it was plumb. Hawk Eye shows all three reds and England lose their review along with half the side. They still need 415 runs more.
