  • The spoils were shared amongst everyone in the South African bowling unit. It was a collective performance, with everyone playing their part. Steyn and Rabada got the early breakthrough, then Sipamla got a wicket of his own, with Tahir terrorizing in the middle overs and Phehlukwayo taking care of business in the fag end. The Saffas will back themselves to chase this down. Let's see how it goes.
  • As things stand, South Africa will be pleased having won the toss and put the Lankan in to bat. They started off well, having picked up a couple of quick wickets, and then never let any of the batsmen settle. As soon as a partnership was threatening to form, a wicket fell and halted the momentum, bringing the tide back in the hosts' favour. Kamindu Mendis top scored with 41, while none of the rest even got to 20.
  • 19.6 DROPPED and another couple! This will frustrate Rabada even more. On a length again on middle, Udana once again swings but it again takes the top edge. It goes uppishly towards Tahir at third man. He gets two hands to it but can't hang on. He straightaway apologizes. The batsmen take two and 13 from the last over. SRI LANKA END WITH 134!
  • 19.5 Another couple! This one too falls in no man's land. Frustrating for Rabada. Slower ball and Udana looks to go downtown. Mistimes it but it goes on the bounce to long off. A couple taken. 11 from the over. A ball to go...
  • 19.5 Now a wide! Rabada goes short again but this one bounces over the batsman's head. Wided.
  • 19.4 Another couple! This is proving to be a good last over for the visitors. A full toss on the pads, Udana flicks it through mid-wicket and takes two.
  • 19.3 FOUR! Streaky but Lanka won't care as long as they come. Short and on middle, Udana goes for the pull but gets a top edge which goes over the keeper. Boundary. Vital runs these.
  • 19.2 In the air... but short! Slower ball and outside off, Udana goes hard at it but only gets a top edge. It goes uppishly towards third man. The fielder there runs in but does not get to it. Does well to get his body in the way and keep it down to two.
  • 19.1 Full and outside off, the batter swings but misses. A dot to begin the last over.
  • Kagiso Rabada to bowl the last over.
  • 18.6 FOUR! Consecutive boundaries! Spoils what was a top over till then. Still a good penultimate one though. Full and outside off, Dananjaya throws his bat at it but gets an outside edge which races down to the third man fence. 121/7
  • 18.5 FOUR! Much, much-needed boundary! Full and Akila makes room, gets under it this time and lofts it over covers for a boundary.
  • 18.4 Another dot! Full and on middle again, Akila pushes it towards covers.
  • 18.3 No hat-trick but smart bowling. Goes full and on the stumps from around the wicket. Dananjaya gets his bat down in time and strokes it towards mid off.
  • Akila Dananjaya is the new man in. He will face the hat-trick ball.
  • 18.2 OUT! BOWLED! Isuru Udana, who made a name for himself in the last 2 ODIs, fails to impress this time. A straight and full delivery on middle, Udana looks to paddle scoop towards the fine leg region but misses. Andile hits the jackpot. The ball crashes into the middle stump and the bails go flying off.
  • Isuru Udana is the next man in.
  • 18.1 OUT! CAUGHT! Sri Lanka have lost their sixth wicket. Perera, their big hitter, has to walk back. Slower ball outside off, Perera goes for a big heave over mid-wicket but does not get it off the middle of the bat. It goes high in the air where du Plessis at long on comes in and takes it easily.
  • Andile Phehlukwayo is back on.
  • 17.6 Another single! Excellent over. Just the 4 from it. Another slower ball, Perera does not pick it. He is early into the stroke. It goes off the toe end towards long on for a run. 113/5
  • 17.5 Another single as this is powered down to long on. Just the three from the 18th over so far.
  • The physio is out, checks the helmet whether it needs to be changed. Despite the flap coming off, it is not changed. Might be Perera's lucky helmet.
  • 17.4 Right on the helmet! Short and on the body of the batsman. Perera looks to pull but misses. The ball hits him on the helmet and rolls towards the leg side. The batsmen take a leg bye. Perera goes to the other end and takes his helmet off.
  • 17.3 Another swing and another miss! The slower one this time and outside off. TP is way too early into his slog and he misses the ball by a month.
  • 17.2 The seam-up ball this time and it is outside off, Thisara swings but only connects with thin air.
  • 17.1 The slower ball on off, Dhananjaya is early into the slog. It goes off the inner half through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 16.6 A back of a length delivery on off, de Silva cuts it to point for a single. 109/5
  • 16.5 A short delivery outside off, shaping away. De Silva looks for a cut but is well beaten.
  • 16.4 A short delivery on middle and leg, Perera makes some room and slaps it from the back foot above the bowler's head. Picks valuable three runs for the team.
  • 16.3 Another short ball, de Silva pulls it hard to deep mid-wicket where the fielder takes it on a bounce. The batsmen take a single.
  • 16.2 Short ball outside off, de Silva goes hard at it but fails to connect. The ball goes straight to the keeper.
  • 16.1 Short ball outside off, de Silva tries to lift on off side but gets it off the thick outside edge of the bat and the ball races to the third man region. Rabada there does well to cut it off inside the ropes and stops it well, saves 2 for his side.
  • Dale Steyn is back into the attack.
  • 15.6 Played to the point region by the batsman 102/5
  • 15.5 A short pitch delivery on off, Perera was looking for a upper cut but fails to connect. Miller collects it easy from behind the stumps.
  • 15.4 A back of length delivery around middle, Perera cuts it towards sweeper cover region and adds double to the score.
  • 15.3 Short ball near the shoulders, Perera goes for the upper cut but fails to get bat on ball.
  • 15.2 Gets the line proper this time. Bowls it full and outside off, Thisara plays a lofted shot over covers and takes off. The fielder at deep extra cover cuts it off. The batsmen complete a brace in the process.
  • 15.2 Perera goes after this one but misses the line completely. The Umpire signals a wide.
  • 15.1 A back of a length delivery on off, de Silva taps it for a single.
  • 15.1 Same line, another wide.
  • 15.1 Rabada goes down the leg side. Wide signalled by the umpire. Rabada looks unhappy with the decision complains that he heard an edge on that. The replays roll and Rabada was right. Snicko shows a little wood on that.
  • Kagiso Rabada is back on.
  • 14.6 No, it does not. Just a single to finish as this is worked through mid-wicket. 5 from Tahir's last and he finishes with figures of 4-0-21-1. Excellent. 94/5
  • 14.5 A dot now as this very full ball is jammed out towards Tahir. Just the 4 so far from the over. Will the last ball spoil it?
  • 14.4 4 singles in a row as TP strokes it down to long off.
  • 14.3 Another uppish shot but well wide of the fielder at cover, it goes down to long off for a single.
  • 14.2 Flighted ball on off, Perera strokes it solidly towards long off for a run.
  • 14.1 Quicker and fuller, this is eased down to long on for a single.
  • 13.6 SIX! BIGGIE! Perera gets in the act here and sends this ball straight to the long on stands. Andile bowls a full ball outside off, Thisara reads it early and goes on with the shot. He connects it with the meat of the bat and the ball goes high and handsome into the stands. Can Perera continue this and get Sri Lanka to at least 140? 89/5
  • 13.5 A short pitch delivery around leg, de Silva pulls it to deep mid-wicket and takes a single.
  • 13.4 A short of a good length delivery on middle and leg, shaping away for Dhananjaya. De Silva gets on back foot and defends it with outter side of his bat.
  • 13.3 A back of a length delivery, de Silva gets behind the line and defends it.
  • 13.2 Andile drifting this on Perera's pads, Thisara just flicks it to the mid-wicket region for a single.
  • 13.1 A length delivery outside off, de Silva just guides it to third man and takes a single.
  • 12.6 Another dot to end! Floated around off, TP strokes it to covers. Just the four runs and a wicket from it. 80/5
  • 12.5 BEATEN! Once again the googly causing problems. Tosses it up around off, it pitches and then turns away. Perera lunges and tries to defend but gets beaten.
  • 12.4 Flatter and on the shorter side, de Silva goes back and punches it down to long on for a single.
  • 12.4 The slider but it is down the leg side. It has been wided.
  • 12.3 The leg spinner outside off, Perera looks to drive but it goes off the inner half down to long off for a run.
  • 12.2 Fuller in length on middle, this is eased down to long on to get off the mark.
  • Dhananjaya de Silva out now.
  • 12.1 OUT! STUMPED! Beautiful, just beautiful this from Tahir. The batsman was beaten in flight and the turn. Kamindu just had no clue there. This is given a lot of air and it dips around off. Mendis steps out but does not get to the pitch of it. The ball lands and then turns away. Mendis looks to adjust and then hit it with the turn but misses. Miller makes no mistake behind the stumps. Half the side back in the hut and Kamindu who was well set is walking back.
  • 11.6 Beaten! Late movement away from Thisara Perera, it's on a length. The all-rounder tries to punch it through the covers but doesn't get any bat on it. 76/4
  • 11.5 Pushes this full delivery towards covers and takes off. Is off his blocks quickly and completes the run without any trouble.
  • 11.5 Wide! Short from Andile, but it's too short. Mendis tries to smash it over towards third man but fails to connect. Wide signalled by the umpire.
  • 11.4 Too straight, Thisara picks it off his pads and flicks it through backward square leg for a run. He's off the mark.
  • 11.3 Bumper on middle and leg, ducked and evaded by Thisara Perera.
  • Thisara Perera is the next batsman in.
  • 11.2 OUT! Bowled 'em! Andile Phehlukwayo gets his first of the innings. A you-miss-I-hit kind of a situation. Very simple stuff from him. Keeps it on the fuller side and right in line of the stumps, Angelo Perera makes the mistakes of going across the line. Swings his bat, has to connect which he doesn't, and ends up paying the price. Sri Lanka lose another wicket.
  • 11.1 Kamindu Mendis survives! That was in the air for a while but inches wide of the fielder. He gave the charge, looked to clear covers but only got it as far as de Kock inside the ring. He moves to his right, dives but can't get to it in time. A single is taken.
  • Andile Phehlukwayo returns.
  • 10.6 FOUR! Excellent! Perera reads this full ball early and goes to the pitch of the ball. He drives it uppishly and finds the gap at deep covers with perfection. A good over from Tahir ends with a boundary. 72/3
  • 10.5 Bowls a full toss on leg, Mendis goes for a reverse sweep and gets it from the middle. The ball goes straight to the fielder at deep backward point. One run taken.
  • 10.4 Pitched on middle and leg, Angelo just clips it to mid-wicket for a single.
  • 10.3 A flighted delivery around off, Perera tries a slog towards the mid-wicket region but fails badly. He was well beaten by the spin.
  • 10.2 A flighted delivery on off, Mendis comes down the track and gets a single by driving it towards the cover region.
  • 10.1 A loopy delivery around off, Mendis defends it watchfully.
  • Imran Tahir is back on.
  • 9.6 Direct hit needed! The fielder misses! Another shortish ball on middle, Kamindu pulls it straight to mid-wicket. The batsmen go for a single. The fielder there has a shy at the non-striker's end but misses. Mendis was a goner had he hit. Another good over for the hosts. 65/3
  • 9.5 Another shorter one, Perera waits for it and then guides it down to third man for a run.
  • 9.4 The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball. They pick up a single.
  • 9.3 On the shorter side on off, Perera stands tall and taps it towards point for a run.
  • 9.2 Good fielding! This one is worked with the angle towards mid on. The fielder at mid-wicket moves quickly to his right, picks the ball up and has a shy at the striker's end but misses. Even if he had hit, the batter seems he would have been in. He was off his blocks a little too quickly.
  • 9.1 On the fuller side, the batter whips it towards mid-wicket for a quick run.
  • 8.6 He does! Single to end and just 4 from this over. A good one from Phehlukwayo to start his innings. He bowls it full outside off, Mendis goes on the back foot and punches it to the off side for a single. 60/3
  • 8.5 Fuller and on the pads, Perera flicks it to mid-wicket. Third single from the over. Can he end it well?
  • 8.4 Short ball near the shoulders, Perera does well to evade it and leaves it to the keeper.
  • 8.3 Length ball on off, Mendis guides it to third man. They complete a run.
  • 8.2 Width on offer, Mendis tries to cut it but fails to get bat on ball.
  • 8.1 Full length ball on off, Perera drives it through extra cover for a run. The mid off fielder was quick to cut it off but the batsmen were quicker.
  • Andile Phehlukwayo is brought on to bowl.
  • 7.6 Slower in pace by Sipamla, a short pitch delivery. Perera juts taps it from the back foot to the point region and runs for a single. 9 runs from this over. A good over for Sri Lanka, finally getting momentum and the scoreboard running. 56/3
  • 7.5 Short ball on off, Mendis rocks back and pulls it hard to mid-wicket. One run added to the total.
  • 7.4 Bowls it fuller on the pads, Perera works it to mid on and scampers for a quick single.
  • 7.3 Length ball pitching outside leg, Mendis flicks it to short mid-wicket for a run.
  • 7.2 FOUR! Fifty up for Lanka. A fuller delivery on middle and leg, Mendis just chips it up and plays it right back to the bowler. Sipamla has a tough chance to catch but he is late to react. The ball does pass the diving mid on fielder and touches the ropes.
  • 7.1 Fuller length outside off, Perera drives it to deep cover for a single.
  • 6.6 A single to end Tahir's first. Another good over for South Africa. Perera plays this one late and towards point for a run. 47/3

  • 6.2 Bowls a fuller ball on off, Perera drives it to covers for a single.
  • 6.1 NOT OUT! Mendis is in! He guides it towards short third man and then the batsmen go for a run. The fielder there hits bull's eye at the striker's end. An appeal follows but the umpire waits as the ball deflects away from the fielder backing up and an extra run is taken. The umpire then goes upstairs. Replays show that Mendis is well in.
  • A direct hit at the striker's end! They have taken is upstairs but Mendis does not seem to be too concerned.
  • Time for some spin. Imran Tahir to roll his arm over.
  • 5.6 A wicket and two dots to end! Length and around middle, the batter keeps it out. Just the three runs and a wicket from this one. South Africa's Powerplay. Sri Lanka are 42 for 3 after it. 42/3
  • 5.5 Uppish but well short! On a length and around off, Mendis pushes at it with hard hands. It is in the air for a while but lands well short of covers.
  • Angelo Perera will bat next for Sri Lanka.
  • 5.4 OUT! In the air... and that has been taken excellently by Reeza Hendricks. The third one down in the Powerplay and not many teams win after losing three in the first six. A budding partnership comes to an end. Fernando goes for another hoick. This time though it is the slower one so he does not get it right off the middle. Goes uppishly towards deep square leg. Reeza there does very well to position himself just ahead of the ropes. He takes it but then realizes the momentum is taking him over the line. He tosses it up, goes out, comes in and then takes it. The umpires then go upstairs to check if the front foot is fine and yes, it is. The bowling change does the trick for the hosts as Sipamla strikes in his first over.
  • 5.3 Three singles from the first three balls. Outside off, the batter once again throws his bat at it but it goes off the inner half towards square leg for a run.
  • 5.2 Bowls a very full ball on the pads. Fernando looks to flick but misses. It hits his pads and rolls towards short fine leg. A leg bye taken.

  • Lutho Sipamla into the attack now.
  • 4.6 Fernando has played that off the front foot and drives it to the covers. A spirited effort there by van der Dussen to save runs for his team. 39/2
  • 4.5 A quick single! Fuller length on off, Mendis punches it towards the cover region and runs for a single.
  • 4.4 FOUR! In the air ... safe!! Bowls it slower on off, Kamindu goes for a straight drive but plays it uppishly towards the non-striker who evades it to let it go past. The mid off fielder gives it a chase but could not cut it and the ball races away to the fence.
  • 4.3 FOUR! A back of a length delivery on leg, Mendis works it fine behind the wicket with a late flick. Duminy at short fine leg misfields it, and the ball touches the ropes for a boundary.
  • 4.2 Fires a yorker on the toes, Mendis just manages to keep it away.
  • 4.1 Fuller length on leg, Avishka just flicks it to mid-wicket for a single.
  • 3.6 SIX! Consecutive ones! 4 maximums in 29 now. 14 from the over. A much-needed one for Sri Lanka. This one is nicely played. It is short and angling away from the batsman. The lat time he tried to pull it across the line. This time though he waits for it and then upper cuts it over the slip cordon. The pace of Rabada takes it over the fence at the third man region. 29/2
  • 3.5 SIX! Top edge but that has gone all the way! Sri Lanka are dealing in maximums here. Three maximums in the 23 runs they have. This one though is a lucky one. Short and on off, Kamindu looks to drag his pull on the leg side. It takes the top edge and due to the big edges now, it carries over the third man fence.
  • 3.4 Pitches on a good length outside off, Fernando drives it to covers and takes off for a single.
  • 3.3 Fuller on middle, Fernando plays it to mid-on.
  • 3.2 On a full length around off, Kamindu goes for the heave but doesn't connect well and lifts it in the air. The ball goes to mid-wicket where the fielder cuts if off.
  • 3.1 Bowls a yorker to start the over, Kamindu does well to dig it out and places it towards short mid-wicket.
  • 2.6 SIX! Out of here! Second of the innings for Fernando and Sri Lanka. Slightly short in length, Avishka has no second thoughts about what he's going to do. He sticks on the back foot, swings across the line and clears the mid-wicket fence without any trouble. 15/2
  • 2.5 In the air for a moment but luckily for the batsman it falls safely. Steyn takes some pace off it as he pitches it full outside off, Kamindu comes forward, checks his drive and plays it in front of Phehlukwayo moving to his left from short cover. A quick run is stolen.
  • 2.4 Shortish in line of the stumps, pulled to the deep square leg fielder. A single is collected.
  • 2.3 Full ball on middle and off, angling in slightly, it's wristed towards mid on for nothing.
  • 2.2 A watchful leave. Steyn keeps it in the corridor of uncertainty and so, the batsman leaves it alone.
  • 2.1 Good length delivery in the channel outside off, Avishka stays behind and blocks it out.
  • Kamindu Mendis is the new man in.
  • 1.6 OUT! Two wickets in as many overs for South Africa. Catching practice for Sipamla at mid on. Full and attacking the stumps, Mendis looks to clear the fielder but doesn't get under the ball at all. Hands a straightforward catch to Sipamla, who takes it by crouching low. Sri Lanka in a spot of bother already, need to get a partnership going. The hosts are carrying on from where they left off in the ODIs. 7/2
  • 1.5 Play and a miss! Almost edged it behind. Rabada pitches it well outside off and Mendis goes after it. Looks to cut but fails to make connection.
  • 1.4 On middle and leg and it's worked past the man at mid-wicket for an easy single.
  • 1.3 SIX! First runs of the innings and it's a maximum. Avishka Fernando goes bang! Slightly fuller in length, on the stumps, Fernando stands his ground and throws his bat at it. Clears long on with ease as he sends it over the fence. Positive start from him.
  • 1.2 Fraction short in length and a little straighter in line too, Fernando works it straight to the man in front of square leg.
  • 1.1 Short of a good length on off stump, Fernando positions himself well behind the line and defends it back down the track.
  • Kagiso Rabada to bowl from the other end.
  • 0.6 Beaten again! Excellent first over from Dale Steyn. A wicket-maiden to begin proceedings. He bowls it on a length on off and it goes away again with some extra bounce. Mendis tries to play at it but is beaten once more. 0/1
  • 0.5 Beauty! When he's on fire, there are few better sights in the world. Some good carry for Steyn, this length delivery shoots off the deck and slants away from around off, Kusal Mendis looks to play at it but gets beaten.
  • 0.4 Behind a good length, around off, Mendis hangs on the back foot and offers a firm punch on the off side.
  • 0.3 A lot of movement away as it lands on a length outside off, Mendis has nothing to do with it.
  • Kusal Mendis walks in at no.3.
  • 0.2 OUT! GONE! The Steyn Gun wastes no time in firing away! This isn't a great ball as such, thrown well outside off and fuller in length, Dickwella loosely goes after it and nicks it behind. David Miller behind the sticks today takes a simple catch. He'll be happy his first one is an easy one. Perfect start for the Saffas, an early breakthrough for them.
  • 0.1 Steyn kicks things off with a good length delivery just outside off. There's some decent shape on it as it moves away, Dickwella defends it off the outer half towards cover-point.
  • We are all set for the action to begin! Unlike the last ODI here, there seems to be no problem with the floodlight at the moment as the South African players make their way out to the middle. They are followed by the Lankan openers, Niroshan Dickwella and Avishka Fernando. Dale Steyn to start the proceedings for the hosts. Here we go...
  • Sri Lanka (Playing XI) - Niroshan Dickwella (WK), Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, Angelo Perera, Thisara Perera, Kamindu Mendis, Isuru Udana, Akila Dananjaya, Lasith Malinga (C), Jeffrey Vandersay.

Both the teams will be eager to win the first game. The hosts have momentum on their side and are firm favorites to come out victorious. Will there be an upset? Welcome to the coverage.

South Africa Vs Sri Lanka Live Score (T20) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • After quite a one-sided One-Day series, we needed a thriller to shake things up and we got exactly that. South Africa have taken a 1-0 lead in the series which has two more matches to go. Let us hope that the second game will be as exciting as this one. Do join us for that at 1800 local (1600 GMT). Till then, goodbye and take care!
  • South Africa captain, Faf du Plessis, says this game was great fun. Feels that his side needed something like this as it tested all the players' character and resolve. On David Miller as wicket-keeper, he says that they just wanted to explore their options and is quite pleased it come off well. Opines that they bowled really well but is surprised with the surface and reckons that in hindsight it wasn't such a good decision to bat second. Praises Lasith Malinga for his outstanding bowling display and mentions that his team can learn a lot from this. On Andile Phehlukwayo (that his middle name is Lucky), Faf chuckles and says that he's never lucky, but then goes on to state that it's his bravery which is his biggest asset. Continues to praise him and says he's happy with the responsibility he's taking on.
  • Man of the Match, David Miller, says he didn't expect the game to go into the Super Over, but is happy his team came out on the right side of the result. States that they weren't prepared for this scenario, but is pleased they got the job done. Adds that his and Rassie van der Dussen's partnership was going well, but both lost their wickets in quick succession which wasn't good and that's something they can learn from. On the Super Over, he mentions that they felt that 10 runs would be enough based on the surface, and that they got more was really good.
  • Sri Lanka captain, Lasith Malinga, says T20 is an interesting format. Adds that they couldn't get across the line but they tried their best. Reckons that 134 isn't enough in this format, so they tried out different plans but it just didn't work out in the end. States that he's happy with his own performance, he likes the challenge as he can show what he can still do. Still stresses that they'd have liked to win the match. Feels that David Miller played really well and applauds his display with the bat. Says that anything can happen if you keep fighting on every single ball. Ends by saying that he wants his team to continue doing so and give it their all.
  • 18 runs were needed in the last 4 overs, but Malinga and Udana both bowled brilliantly in the death and picked up important wickets, bringing the match to a tie. It went down to the Super Over, where South Africa scored 14 off the Lankan captain, but the visitors couldn't match it as Imran Tahir was simply astounding. Don't go anywhere, as the presentation is about to come up...
  • What a match, folks! How can you not be romantic about cricket? After how the first innings ended, with Sri Lanka only finishing with 134, that too after a repairing knock from Kamindu Mendis, you'd have thought the Proteas would have clinched this. They lost a few early wickets, but Miller and van der Dussen's stunning partnership turned the tide back in their favour.
  • Tahir has held his nerves, he has defended 14 in the Super Over. Top, top stuff from the champion bowler. Forget 14, 5 runs is what he conceded in it. Excellent execution from the veteran leg spinner. He kept it tight, teased the batsmen too with the flight, was brave and got the rewards for it.
  • Ball 6: Tahir to Thisara Perera, 1 run, Outside the line of off stump, Thisara hits it over covers and takes a single. It's not enough and South Africa have won this game.
  • Ball 6: Tahir to Thisara Perera, Wide, Another one well outside off and across the tramline, Thisara leaves it alone and it's signalled as a wide.
  • Ball 5: Tahir to Thisara Perera, No run, Beaten! The quicker googly outside off, Thisara plays at it and misses.
  • Ball 5: Tahir to Thisara Perera, Wide, Fired well outside off, it goes across the tramline and it's signalled as a wide.
  • Ball 4: Tahir to Fernando, 1 run, DROPPED! Steyn misses a sitter. Tossed up from the leggie, Fernando mistimes the hit towards Steyn at mid off. He spills it and the batsmen cross over.
  • Ball 3: Tahir to Fernando, No run, Another dot. Tahir gives it air again and lands it full on middle and off, it spins away as Fernando looks to go big on the leg side but misses.
  • Ball 2: Tahir to Fernando, No run, Short and flat outside off, spinning away slightly, Fernando throws his bat at it but misses. Dot ball.
  • Ball 1: Tahir to Thisara Perera, 1 run, Flat and quick on leg, Thisara slogs it to deep mid-wicket for a single.
  • South Africa have managed to score 14 from the 6 balls they faced. Just two came from the first two deliveries but then Miller hit one out of the park and then a boundary. It is not going to be easy for the Lankans now but with only six balls, you can't rule them out. Also, if this ends up in a tie, meaning if Sri Lanka also score 14 runs, then South Africa will win based on a superior boundary count. Avishka Fernando and Thisara Perera walk out to the middle. Imran Tahir will take the ball for South Africa.
  • Ball 6: Malinga to Miller, 2 runs, Miller drives this full length ball on the stumps to long on and comes back for the second. 14 runs off the Super Over.
  • Ball 5: Malinga to Miller, FOUR, Excellent stuff from David Miller. Full and just around off, Miller drills it through the gap in the covers and finds the fence.
  • Ball 4: Malinga to Miller, No run, Slower full toss outside off, a bit high too but not high enough, Miller throws his bat at it but fails to make connection.
  • Ball 3: Malinga to Miller, SIX, Miller whacks it out of the park! Length ball on the stumps, Miller swings across the line and nails the slog over mid-wicket for a maximum.
  • Ball 2: Malinga to van der Dussen, 1 run, On a length again on off, van der Dussen works it through mid-wicket for one. Wanted the second but didn't get it.
  • Ball 1: Malinga to Miller, 1 run, Length ball around off, Miller cuts it wide of point and takes a single.
  • It is South Africa now who will bat first. David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen to bat first. Lasith Malinga to bowl the Super Over.
  • WHAT A GAME THIS IS TURNING OUT TO BE! It seemed as the South Africans were going to cruise home when they needed 18 in the last four overs with 7 wickets in hand. That though is when the game changed. Malinga bowled a two-run over. Got the wicket of Rassie in that and Miller was also run out. Phehlukwayo then came out and threw it away. Rabada wasted a few and then got knocked over. 5 was needed in the last over and with Duminy being run out on the penultimate ball. The South Africans needed 2 in 1 with Tahir on strike. The hosts managed to steal a single to take it into the Super Over.
  • 19.6 MATCH TIED! WE WILL HAVE A SUPER OVER! The scenes here at the Newlands. This match has been tied. Wow. Dickwella could have finished it had he hit the stumps but he missed. Length ball around off, Tahir gets an inside edge as the ball goes behind. Dickwella is closer to the sticks, has a shy at them but misses all three. The single is taken.
  • Imran Tahir walks in next. 2 required to win off 1 ball.
  • 19.5 OUT! DUMINY IS RUN OUT! Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka... have you done it? Oh, boy! This doesn't look good at all for the home side. Duminy works through square leg and comes back for the second even when it isn't on. The throw comes in from the deep and the keeper does the rest with ease. JP was hoping for a mistake from the fielder, but that never happened. Anything can happen now. Which team will take the victory home? Or will we have a Super Over?
  • 19.4 Gets the single this time. Steyn gets a single and says 'over to you, JP'. Slogs it through to deep mid-wicket and gets off strike.
  • 19.3 Udana following in Malinga's footsteps. One more slower delivery, on a back of a length, Steyn swings across the line again but misses and the ball goes over the stumps.
  • 19.2 Beaten! Crucial dot ball. Slower length ball around off, the cutter and it goes away, Steyn looks to whack it across the line but is into the shot too early.
  • 19.1 Slower length ball on off stump, from around the wicket, Duminy helps the pull to deep square leg. Wants the second but will have to settle with just the one.
  • Dale Steyn is next in to bat but he won't be on strike. Also, Isuru Udana to bowl the last over of the game.
  • 18.6 OUT! Bowled! A wicket and just 1 run off it. Exceptional stuff from Lasith Malinga, upto 96 wickets in T20Is. Another slower one, but full and in line of the stumps this time, Rabada clears his front leg and tries to bang it down the ground. Misses and the stumps are disturbed. 5 runs needed off the final over. 130/7
  • 18.5 What a fantastic over so far. Fantastic. Cleverly disguises the slower ball again, wide outside off. Rabada is too early into the shot and misses it completely.
  • 18.4 Another dot. Just 1 run off 4 balls so far. The slower one again, fuller on the stumps, Rabada works it to the left of the bowler. Wants the run but has to come back as Malinga gets to the ball quickly.
  • 18.3 Play and a miss from Rabada. Full delivery well outside off, Rabada pushes away from his body and gets beaten past the outside edge.
  • 18.2 Full and outside off, it's pushed past point and a single is collected. 5 to win off 10.
  • 18.1 Dot ball. Cleverly bowls the slower one on middle and leg, Duminy stays behind the line and defends it back in the bowler's direction.
  • 17.6 Turning away from JP, outside off, he dabs it in front of point and keeps strike with a single. 129/6
  • Kagiso Rabada in next.
  • 17.5 OUT! No need for that shot at all. Already 9 runs came off the over, absolutely no need. He'll be disappointed with that. Phehlukwayo gives the charge and looks to go big downtown. Skies it to Udana at long off who settles under it and takes it well.
  • 17.4 FOUR! Brings out the reverse sweep and nails the shot to perfection. Quite full on the stumps, Phehlukwayo places it through backward point and finds the fence.
  • 17.3 There's that extra bounce again. Landed around off, it spins away as it shoots off the deck. Phehlukwayo is taken by surprise and he gets beaten while trying to put bat on ball.
  • 17.2 Fraction straight in line and shorter in length, it's pulled to deep mid-wicket for a single.
  • 17.1 Edged and FOUR! Lucky runs for South Africa and this is the perfect start to the over for them. De Silva comes from around the wicket and pitches it around off, it turns away and takes the outside edge of Duminy's bat. It races down to third man for a boundary.
  • Dhananjaya de Silva is back into the attack.
  • 16.6 Length ball on off, patted to covers to end the over. Still 16 needed to win off 18 balls. 119/5
  • Andile Phehlukwayo is out now to bat.
  • 16.5 OUT! This is a massive wicket. The in-form David Miller is out of here. This is a risky run. He works this through square leg and takes off. Quickly calls for the second and rushes back. The throw comes in from the deep and Mendis is accurate as he finds the keeper to perfection. Dickwella takes the bails off as Miller dives in. It's taken upstairs and replays show Miller is short.
  • This could be the turning point in the game. David Miller is at the danger end and the Lankans think he's gone. Let's see now...
  • 16.4 Angling across from outside off, Miller plays and misses.
  • JP Duminy is the new man in.
  • 16.3 OUT! Malinga strikes! His 95th wicket in T20I cricket. Rassie van der Dussen departs. Could Sri Lanka still be in with a chance? Just behind a length around off, van der Dussen shimmies down and tries to go across the line. Gets a top edge and it lobs down to third man. Udana there runs inside, dives forward and takes a safe catch.
  • 16.2 Loud appeal from the Lankan captain for a leg before, but it seemed to be going down leg. Height could be a factor as well. The cutter on middle and leg, catches van der Dussen on the back thigh pad as he attempts to work it across the line.
  • 16.1 Length delivery on leg stump, it's worked off the pads down to fine leg for one.
  • Lasith Malinga brings himself back on to bowl.
  • 15.6 FOUR! 14 off his last over. Before this, Akila gave away 14 in his first 3 overs. This is a good delivery, it spins away sharply from a shorter length around off, Rassie plays at it and edges it down to third man for a boundary. South Africa need 18 to win off 24 balls. 117/3
  • 15.5 SIX! Right in the slot and away it goes! Super shot from Rassie van der Dussen. This is his first boundary of the innings. Tossed up, van der Dussen kneels down and slog sweeps it over mid-wicket for half a dozen.
  • 15.4 Leans into the tossed up delivery and eases it through to long off. The batsmen take one.
  • 15.3 Outside off with room on offer, van der Dussen cuts it toward short third man and crosses over.
  • 15.2 Too full from around the wicket, on off stump, Miller gets low, plays the reverse sweep wide enough of short third man and pinches a quick run.
  • 15.1 Short and flat outside off, it's punched through the off side for a single.
  • Akila Dananjaya called back on.
  • 14.6 Brace to end the over. Bowls it on the pads again, Miller works it fine on the leg side and comes back for the second. 20 runs from this over. Massive one for South Africa. 32 runs to get from the last 5 overs. Can Sri Lanka make a comeback from here? 103/3
  • 14.5 SIX! Biggie! When its in the arc, it's out of the park! Changes line on this one, Miller was quick to read that so moves out this time and lofts it high and handsome over covers for a maximum. The fielder in the deep was no where in the sight.
  • 14.4 FOUR! Killer Miller is getting those runs for South Africa here. He reads the line early so goes across to this length ball on middle and clips it to the square leg region. The timing was so good that it raced away to the boundary.
  • 14.3 FOUR! Hammered! Udana bowls it full on the pads, Miller flicks it with a wristy shot and gets it to the fence. Second boundary of the over.
  • 14.2 Slower delivery outside off, Miller looks to cut but fails to get bat on ball.
  • 14.1 FOUR! PERFECTION! Bowls a full toss on off, Miller flicks it off his pads and finds the gap between deep mid-wicket and long on with perfection. The long on fielder was just short to get his hands on the ball.
  • 13.6 Yes, he does. Just a run from the last ball as Miller guides it towards point. 52 from the last 6. 83/3
  • 13.5 5 balls 5 single as Rassie pushes it towards cover. Can he end it well?
  • 13.4 On the flatter side and outside off, Miller pushes it through covers. The fielder in the deep does very well to run to his left and keep it down to one.
  • 13.3 This is very wide outside off, Rassie chases after it. Ends up chopping it to point for a run.
  • 13.2 Miller now was looking for the slog sweep, picks it is the googly, does the smart thing by opening the face and guiding it down to third man for a run.
  • 13.1 Goes down on one knee and plays the sweep, he connects with it as it goes through square leg for a run.
  • 12.6 Rassie flicks it away with a wristy shot. The batsmen have run through for a single. 77/3
  • 12.5 Fuller in length this time, van der Dussen flicks it to mid-wicket and again comes back for a brace. Miller runs in hard for the second. The ball hits Udana hard on the hands while backing up.
  • 12.4 No, Miller is in! Sri Lanka looked excited but replays showed Miller was comfortably in here. Coming to the ball, it was pitched on middle and onto the pads, Rassie flicks it to deep mid-wicket and comes back for a second. The throw was on the non-striker's end where Udana deflects it off his hands and onto the stumps.
  • Is there another run out here? There is a direct hit at the non-striker's end. Miller does not seem tensed though.
  • 12.3 Full and off, Miller flicks it hard off his pads but the ball goes straight to deep mid-wicket on one bounce. One run collected.
  • 12.2 Another slower ball on off this time, Rassie opens the face of the bat and plays it to point for a run.
  • 12.1 Slower delivery outside off to start the over, Miller reads it early and guides it to short third man for a single.
  • Isuru Udana is on now.
  • 11.6 Howzzat? The answer to that question is not out! The slider and it is angled into the batsman. Rassie looks to work it around the corner but misses. An appeal follows but the umpire shakes his head. Going down. So despite the boundary, just the 6 from the over. 66 needed in 48. 69/3
  • 11.5 A little too full this time on off, Miller strokes it down to long off for a run. Sensible batting.
  • 11.4 FOUR! Excellent shot! Shuffles right across and plays the sweep. Hits it right off the middle and to the backward square leg fence.
  • 11.3 Lovely bowling! Gives it air and lands it on off, it is the googly so it spins away. Miller plays inside the line and gets beaten.

  • 11.1 Flatter and on off, Rassie pushes it back to the bowler.

  • 10.1 Half tracker to start the over, Rassie pulls it to deep mid-wicket for a single.
  • Akila Dananjaya is back on.
  • 9.6 Another poor ball, a full toss. Rassie though happily pushes it down to long on for a run. Vandersay has not got his length right but has got the important wicket. 58/3
  • 9.5 A little too full this time, Miller strokes it down to long off for a run.
  • 9.4 FOUR! Poor ball to bowl to a new batsman. Short and outside off, it is the googly. Miller goes back and slaps it through covers. Off the mark in style.
  • David Miller to have a go with the bat.
  • 9.3 OUT! There goes the skipper. Timely wicket, this, for Sri Lanka. Lovely bowling by Vandersay. He gives it air and gets it to dip on the batsman. Faf looks to get to the pitch of it and hit it with the turn but does not get close enough. He still goes ahead with the shot but due to the turn away, it goes off the outer half to the man at backward point. Dhananjaya there accepts it.
  • 9.3 WIDE! Down the leg side, Faf looks to sweep but misses.
  • 9.2 Flatter and on off, Faf goes back and looks to punch but finds cover.
  • 9.1 Just over! Vandersay almost got a wicket off a poor delivery. Down the leg side and it is short. Rassie looks to flick but closes the face of the bat early. It goes off the leading edge uppishly but clears mid-wicket for a single.

  • 8.5 The batsman dances down the track but decides to defend it.
  • 8.4 Goes on the back foot and drives it through mid on for a single.
  • 8.3 SIX! Excellent! Straight out of the middle of the bat. Du Plessis dances down to this floated delivery and lofts it inside out over covers for a biggie. The deep extra cover fielder was just a mere spectator.

  • 8.1 Bowls the first one on a full length on off, Rassie drives it mid on for a single.
  • Kamindu Mendis is on now.
  • 7.6 On the shorter side again and the bowler gets away by conceding another single as Rassie pulls it towards long on. Just the 5 from this over, however, the over wasn't a great one. 41/2
  • 7.5 The slider on the stumps, Faf goes back and works it towards mid-wicket for a run.
  • 7.4 Gives it a lot of air but it lands very full. Faf jams it out.

  • Rassie van der Dussen comes out to bat.
  • 6.1 OUT! In the air... taken! Sri Lanka strike immediately after the Powerplay. Both the openers back in the hut now. De Kock's struggle comes to an end. He looked too fidgety out there, goes for another reverse sweep. This time the ball hits his glove and lobs up in the air. Dickwella makes no mistake and takes it. Sri Lanka are not out of this. South Africa need 102 in 83 with 8 wickets in hand.
  • 5.6 A dot to end the Powerplay! South Africa are just 33 and that too at the loss of a wicket after it. Faf uses his feet and once again it is a little too full to get under it. He pushes it back to the bowler. Another good over by Dhananjaya comes to an end. Could have easily had a wicket in this. 33/1
  • 5.5 FOUR! Adding salt to the wound this! A life given on the last ball and now a boundary. Short and on middle, the batsman picks the length early. Rocks back and pulls it through mid-wicket.
  • 5.4 Stumping chance missed! Just can't afford that while defending such a low score. Faf uses his feet but ends up yorking himself. He looks to jam it out but fails to do so. Misses it. Dickwella fails to collect it and Faf then has enough time to come back in. How costly will this prove?
  • 5.3 Uses his feet but the ball is too full, it is hit back to the bowler.

  • Akila Dananjaya to bowl now.
  • 3.6 A misfield and a run! This is very full on middle, du Plessis hits it towards the bowler. He fails to field it and a run is taken as the ball goes down to long on. End of a successful over for the visitors. 22/1
  • 3.5 Turn and bounce! This is flatter and on off, this one turns back in and bounces a touch extra. Faf does well to play it by taking a hand off the handle.
  • Skipper Faf du Plessis walks in at no.3.
  • 3.4 OUT! Reeza is short! Sri Lanka have got the early breakthrough. It is in the form of a run out, the last thing South Africa would have wanted. De Kock goes for the sweep but gets a top edge. It balloons over the fielder at square leg. The batsmen take two and then go for a risky third. Akila Dananjaya picks the ball up and fires it to the keeper. Dickwella takes it and whips the bails off. An appeal follows and the umpire takes it upstairs. Replays roll in and they show that Reeza has to take the long walk back. The Lankans are pumped up, they need wickets if they are to defend this target. They have got one.
  • Is he gone? What's happened here? Reeza Hendricks looks to be in trouble. Sri Lanka look super confident. Over to the TV umpire now...
  • 3.3 FOUR! That should break the shackles! A freebie, a full toss but it still has to be put away! De Kock just hits it over mid on for a one bounce boundary.

  • 1.2 FOUR! Another one off the edge! Flatter and outside off, Reeza goes back and looks to punch but gets an outside edge through the vacant slip region and into the third man fence. Not sure why Malinga is so defensive. They need wickets and should surely have a slip in place.
  • 1.1 On the stumps, this is worked towards the right of the bowler who moves there quickly and saves a run.
  • Dhananjaya de Silva to bowl from the other end.
  • 0.6 Slower one outside off, de Kock tries to poke at it but misses it altogether. Dot to end the over. Four runs from the first. 4/0
  • 0.5 In the air ... just short! De Kock is lucky here. Malinga bowls this one on a back of a length outside off, de Kock tries to drive it on the up to the off side but fails to get it off the middle. The ball takes a thick outside edge and falls just short of Vandersay at short third man, who makes a diving effort forward to take it and gets hit on top of his fingers on the bounce. Vandersay seems to have injured his finger in the attempt as he is seen bleeding.
  • Vandersay has gone off the field. He was bleeding from the finger where he got hurt, so the physio has come on and taken him off. Remains to be seen if he'll be back or not.
