  • Shakib Al Hasan says that he and Mushfiqur knew it was a good wicket and just wanted to build a partnership. He also adds that they were just looking to settle first and were confident about putting the bad balls away. On the target set, Shakib says that if they bowl well then they can defend it and he's very confident about doing the same.
  • 331 is the target! It is a huge one! The wicket seems to be a good one to bat on but South Africa will need to bat well. They are coming on the back off a poor outing versus England and it will be interesting to see if their batters have recovered. Bangladesh, on the other hand, know if they bowl the right lines and lengths, they will come out on top. Who will win this game? We'll find that out later, for now, Shakib is seen giving an interview.
  • Not a lot to write about the South African bowling! They were dealt a blow early on as Ngidi suffered a hamstring injury which saw him walk off and not play any further part in the game. The rest were also quite inconsistent with their lines and lengths and were made to pay for it. Andile Phehlukwayo though was the pick of the bowlers as he was the most economical and also took two wickets. He was well supported by Imran Tahir who also scalped two.
  • What an outstanding performance by Bangladesh! They will be mighty pleased with where they stand in the game at the moment. After being inserted, it was their openers who set the tone for them as they got the Bangla Tigers off to a flier. The two fell in quick succession but then the experienced heads of Rahim and Shakib added a massive 142-run stand and that laid the foundation for a big score. Both got to their fifties. However, once Shakib fell the scoring seemed to have slowed down. Bangladesh seemed like losing their way when Rahim fell. Mahmudullah and Mosaddek though added a brilliant 66-run stand and took Bangladesh to their highest total in ODIs.
  • 49.6 Good shot but brilliantly fielded too. Good length ball on off, Mahmudullah drives it through covers. It looks like it will beat the sweeper in the deep but David Miller runs to his right and saves the ball from going to the ropes with a full length dive. The batsmen take two. BANGLADESH FINISH ON 330/6!
  • 49.5 Bouncer on off, Hasan pulls it away to deep mid-wicket for a single.
  • 49.4 Play and a miss! Length ball outside off, Mehedi swings his bat at it but does not connect.
  • 49.3 FOUR! Slapped and slapped hard. He does not have time to settle and he needs none. Length ball outside off, Mehedi smashes it over covers for a boundary.
  • 49.2 Slower ball on off, Mahmudullah pushes it to point and takes a single.
  • 49.1 SIX! What a start to the final over for Bangladesh. Full on off, Mahmudullah smokes his flick over the mid-wicket fence for a biggie.
  • Mehedi Hasan is the new man in.
  • 48.6 OUT! Morris finally has something to smile about. A handy innings from Hossain comes to an end. A low full toss on middle, Mosaddek looks to go over mid off but it goes off the bottom part of his blade to Phehlukwayo at the edge of the circle. A wicket to end but 14 from the over too. 316/6
  • 48.5 Just a single! Uses his feet and then creams it through covers just for a run.
  • 48.5 WIDE! Keeps getting better for Bangladesh. This is down the leg side. Mahmudullah looks to pull but misses.
  • 48.4 FOUR! Over! Back-to-back boundaries! Bangladesh finishing on a high here. Short and on middle, Mahmudullah pulls it hard towards deep mid-wicket. The fielder there is was inside the boundary. It goes over him to find the fence.

  • 46.1 DROPPED AND FOUR! An easy chance and it goes abegging! It has not been a good day in the field for South Africa. Morris bowls a good slower one and on middle. He is way too early into the shot. Ends up hitting it high in the air towards deep square leg. Rabada there is not exactly at the ropes. He has to turn back and run behind. He gets two hands to it but fails to hang on. The ball rolls over the fence. This could be a costly miss.
  • Chris Morris is back!
  • 45.6 Just 5 runs off the over as the last ball is on the pads and Mahmudullah plays it to deep mid-wicket and keeps the strike. 276/5
  • 45.5 Back of a length ball on the body, Mosaddek taps it down to third man and gets one.
  • 45.4 A very low full toss on middle and leg, Hossain hits it towards mid-wicket. Tahir at short mid-wicket misfields which allows them to take two.
  • 45.3 Slower delivery. Bowled at 116 kph on off, Mosaddek does well to defend it.
  • 45.2 Length ball on off, Hossain taps it to the man at point.
  • 45.1 Very full on middle and leg, Mahmudullah flicks it to deep square leg and gets one.
  • Kagiso Rabada is back for another burst!

  • 43.6 Tossed up outside off, Hossain looks to defend but gets hit on the pads. The ball goes to the on side but there is a man. Tahir is the only one who goes up in appeal but the umpire is uninterested. Another good day for Tahir. He did not start well but has come back like a champion. He finishes with the figures of 10-0-57-2 in his 100th ODI. 260/5

Andile Phehlukwayo gets his second. He sees the batsman coming down the track and bangs it short. Rahim had also made room so he cuts it hard but does not keep it down. It goes towards deep point where Rassie takes a neat catch. A fine knock comes to an end but understandably Rahim is looking dejected as he didn't finish things off well.

  • Finally a contest in this World Cup! After plenty of one-sided affairs, we witnessed equal fight from two teams and Bangladesh managed to outplay South Africa in the end mainly due to their power-hitting at the death. • Bangladesh skipper, Mashrafe Mortaza, feels that the first match sets the tone and it was nice to win. He says they were always positive, carrying on from the tour of Ireland. Admits now that it was nice to bat first and also tells that he was slightly confused what to do if they win the toss but there was a belief that batting could be good as this was the second game on this pitch after England versus South Africa in the tournament opener. The skipper states that the batters batted really well, especially Soumya Sarkar. He also mentions that the surface was good to bat on and one had to bowl in the right areas. Adds that the spinners bowled well also and the pacers finished off the job in the end. Mashrafe thanks the crowd that was behind them and hopes they are back for the next game as well. Wants the team to perform the same way in all the upcoming games as even the fans at home watching on TV will be rooting for the side to win.
  • South Africa skipper, Faf du Plessis, says that things in this World Cup have not quite gone according to the plan with players getting injured. Admits that 330 was a bit too much and says that it was not an ideal performance. On the pitch, Faf says that the local staff told him there would be more on the surface than what they got. Adds that they have to take the damage inflicted by Bangladesh in the last 5 overs with the bat on the chin. Observes that at the end of the 45th over, both teams were at the same score, so that shows the extent of the damage. On Lungi Ngidi's injury, du Plessis is tight-lipped as he is not sure and hopes that Dale Steyn recovers soon. On the upcoming match against India, Faf replies that things are not getting easier and they would have to be on their toes and be at their best.
  • Shakib Al Hasan is the Man of the Match! He rates this win as one of the top wins in his side's World Cup history. He mentions that this is his fourth World Cup and they have done some upsets previosuly but this is the World Cup that they want to prove something. He states that before they arrived in England, they believed that they can play well and this is the start that they wanted and they were lucky to get it. He reckons now they have to build on this. Shakib admits that having played 2 years with Worcestershire, he knew the conditions well and it also helped playing in the Champions Trophy 2017 here! He tells us that he did not know it was a record partnership with Mushfiqur but says it was a good stand and came at an important time for the team. About the next game, the star all-rounder feels that it will be a big game against New Zealand, and that the confidence will be up but the Black Caps are a really good team and it will be important to come back and do the job properly again.
  • In today's time, a total in excess of 300 has become a norm and teams have chased it down quite often. South Africa started their chase decently with a 49-run opening stand, followed by yet another handy partnership and looked to be on track. Their batsmen kept on getting starts but none managed to play a big knock which was the need of the hour. The top 6 never looked troubled in their stay in the middle and credit should be given to Bangladesh for striking at regular intervals whenever a partnership started to blossom. Mortaza didn't have a good day with the ball but he was very inspirational in marshaling his troops. Mustafizur and Saifuddin provided timely breakthroughs and were the pick of the bowlers. Their fielding was also top notch, catching most of the chances coming their ways and overall it's a dream start to their World Cup campaign.
  • It was a strong batting show by Bangladesh first up to post a big total on the board. Shakib and Rahim played crucial parts with their record century stand and then the late flourish from Mahmudullah powered them to a total which proved to be 21 too much for South Africa.
