That's all we have from this ODI series. There are now three T20Is lined up and both teams would take it with more seriousness with the World Cup approaching. Do join us for the first T20I on 12th February at 1800 local (1600 GMT) for all the action. Cheers!
ADIL RASHID IS GIVEN THE MAN OF THE MATCH AWARD! He picked up the wickets of Quinton de Kock, Temba Bavuma and Andile Phehlukwayo and was brilliant with his varieties. QUINTON DE KOCK IS CHOSEN FOR THE SERIES AWARD. He showed brilliant form with the bat and also led his team smartly.
It was a dismal show by South Africa! They started well with the bat but then lost their way in the middle overs. David Miller's blitzkrieg pumped their total past the 250-run mark but then their opening bowlers received a pounding. That diminished their chances very early in the run chase and from thereon, they played only catch up. Lungi Ngidi was a major disappointment however he redeemed himself towards the end with a 3-wicket haul. Beuran Hendricks and Lutho Sipamla showed good promise but they weren't penetrative enough. On a surface where Moeen and Rashid bowled so well, Tabraiz Shamsi failed to produce the magic and that in a way hurt South Africa's chances of a series win.
Chasing a modest total, England got off to a rollicking start with Jonny Bairstow firing in all cylinders. The required rate anyway was never demanding and after a brisk beginning, the scoreboard pressure vanished completely. They did lose three quick wickets after the opening partnership but then the stand between Joe Root and Joe Denly once again put them on top. Yet another solid alliance followed between Denly and Tom Banton and that put the chase 'nearly' to bed. There were a few hiccups with the target in sight but eventually, the expected result happened and England levelled the ODI series.
England have huffed and puffed to the target! It could have been a straightforward win after the partnership between Joe Denly and Tom Banton but both these batsmen got out in a quick succession followed by the wicket of Tom Curran. That stretched the run chase a bit but the victory for the world champions was never in doubt. Moeen Ali didn't panic and closed the match towards the end with a calm head.
ENGLAND WIN BY 2 WICKETS! Shortish ball around off, angling in, Moeen plays a mistimed pull shot in the air and it drops safely in the deep. They cross for a run and that will be it! Series shared!
FOUR! Moeen strokes a boundary to level the scores. He leans into a fuller length ball and strokes it elegantly through covers for a boundary.
Pitches it up and around off, Jordan pushes it back to the bowler. Another wicket maiden for Lungi Ngidi! 252/8
Another watchful back foot defense by Jordan. Ngidi collects the ball in his followthrough and throws a stare to the number 10 batsman.
Shortish and outside off, Jordan shoulders arms.
Good length ball close to off, Jordan defends it from the back foot.
Chris Jordan is the new man in.
OUT! 5 still needed and England have two wickets left! Are we in for something here? Ngidi fires in a back of a length ball on middle and leg, Rashid sticks back to work it on the leg side but closes the face of his bat early. The leading edge flies behind to de Kock who makes no mistake. Third wicket for Ngidi and his day has gone from mediocre to decent! Can he pick the remaining two in this over?
Aerial but safe! Fuller length ball around off, Rashid pushes at it early and chips it in the air. It goes over the bowler and lands safely in from of mid off.
Almost nicks it behind! Slower delivery, a bit on the shorter side around off, Moeen tries to run it down to third man but misses. 252/7
Switches to 'round the wicket and angles in a length ball on off, Moeen offers a solid front foot defense.
Digs in a short ball on off, Rashid pulls it to deep square leg for a run.
Back of a length delivery on off, Adil stays back and taps it down to backward point.
A rising delivery around off, Rashid leans back a bit and drops it with soft hands to square leg. Looks for a run but Moeen sends him back.
Fuller length ball around off, Rashid gets on the front foot and defends it back.
FOUR! Thumped! Short and on middle, Ali whacks it through mid on for a boundary. 250 up for England and all they need is 6 more to level the series. 251/7
Fuller and outside off, pushed towards point.
In the air... but safe! Short and on middle, Ali goes for the pull but mistimes it towards deep mid-wicket. It lands safely and Ali gets two.
Length ball on off, blocked.
WIDE! Fuller and outside off, asking Ali to go for a drive. He says no and lets it go to the keeper. The umpire thinks it is wide and signals the same.
