  • A word about Ross Taylor now. How well did he play? An 80 in the first game, an unbeaten 86 in much tougher conditions here. He did not waste too much time, just took it till the end, ensuring that New Zealand at least batted out 50 overs. Has his team got enough though? If the Kiwis bowl as well as they did on Wednesday, we could have more than a contest on our hands. Join us back at 7.15 pm local (1515 GMT).
  • Reverse swing is a key exponent in Pakistan's bowling and the last few overs were certainly proof of that. The last 15 overs yielded just 72 runs with 5 wickets. Shaheen Afridi continued his excellent learning curve, picking up his best ODI figures and second 4-wicket haul. For some strange reason Faheem Ashraf did not return after bowling 7 overs while we had 25 overs of spin - for 80 runs and 2 wickets. Hasan Ali got 2 wickets but was not at his best.
  • The Kiwis had another poor start today, losing 2 wickets pretty quickly but then Taylor and Worker steadied the ship with a 46-run stand. However, at 73/4, it seemed like a lost cause before Nicholls joined forces with Rosco. The 75-run partnership seemed to give New Zealand the tempo but once the former fell, the floodgates opened.
  • Hmmm.... 210 is the target then. This is not such a bad score on this track. But one which will keep both the teams interested.
  • 49.6 A full toss, whipped to deep mid-wicket for just a single. NEW ZEALAND FINISH ON 209/9.
  • 49.5 Outside off, swatted through mid-wicket for a couple.
  • 49.4 SIX! Just over! A length delivery, on middle, Taylor gets his bottom hand into play. Uses his wrists and gets it over mid on. Long on thinks he has a chance but the ball just evades his leap.
  • 49.3 Excellent reverse swinging delivery, tailing in off a fuller length, Taylor looks to flick but gets a thick inside edge onto his pads.
  • 49.2 On a length outside off, Ferguson just opens the face of his bat and steers it towards third man for a single to bring up NEW ZEALAND'S 200.
  • Lockie Ferguson is the last man in.
  • 49.1 OUT! BOWLED! Perfect yorker. Hasan fires it at the base of the stumps, Boult backs away and looks to hit it through the off side but misses. The ball is too quick for him. Death rattle.
  • 48.6 Defended off the back foot by the batsman. One run added to the total. 5 runs from the over. Afridi finishes with figures of 9-1-38-4. 199/8
  • 48.5 Full and around off, pushed back to the bowler.
  • Trent Boult comes in at number 10, replacing Sodhi. 2 balls left. Can Shaheen get five?
  • 48.4 OUT! BOWLED! 4-fer for Afridi. Keeps the basics simple. The line is on the stumps, the length is just a tad short of full. Sodhi looks to slog but misses. Timber.
  • 48.3 TOP EDGE, SAFE! A length ball, slower in pace, IS looks to pull but gets a top edge. The ball goes high in the air but third man cannot get to it. Two runs taken.
  • 48.3 WIDE. Loses his radar. Sees Ish get across and hence bowls it down the leg side. But ends up bowling it way too far from the leg stump.
  • 48.2 A slower ball, short in length, Sodhi swings a month in advance and misses.
  • 48.1 Full and around middle, flicked through mid-wicket for a single.
  • 47.6 A slower short ball, pulled through mid-wicket for one more. 16 from the over, Hasan's figures read 8-0-49-1. 194/7
  • 47.5 Yorker, around off, Ish looks to drive but gets a thick inside edge onto his pads. Sets off for a quick single and makes it.
  • 47.4 SIX! ADMONISHED! A length ball, following the batsman, Sodhi backs away and lofts it cleanly over long on!
  • 47.3 FOUR! Does not matter if he missed out on the Free Hit. Makes up for it on this one. A length ball, around middle, Sodhi pulls it over mid-wicket and gets a boundary!
  • 47.2 A fine yorker on the Free Hit, dug out back to the bowler.
  • FREE HIT TIME!
  • 47.2 NO BALL! Excellent yorker, dug out towards mid on for a single. But Hasan has overstepped! Free Hit coming up then...
  • 47.1 Played to mid-wicket region by the batsman. The batsmen have picked up a couple of runs.
  • Hasan Ali returns. 7-0-33-1 so far.
  • 46.6 Delivered with a change of pace, Ish backs away, looking to cut but misses again. 178/7
  • 46.5 Punched off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 46.4 Another slower ball, on a length outside off, Sodhi looks to steer it towards third man but misses.
  • 46.3 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 46.2 Full and outside off, pushed to the off side for a single.
  • Ish Sodhi comes in next at number 9, replacing Southee.
  • 46.1 IN THE AIR... DROPPED... OOPS... OUT! Everyone is laughing. Imam is embarrassed while Afridi wants to laugh but does not want to hurt his teammate. A slower delivery to start, Southee looks to pull but is foxed by it. He mistimes it towards deep square leg where Imam-ul-Haq is a few yards inside the boundary. He has to run back, sticks out his right hand, but then the ball lobs up. Luckily for him, it does not go far and he is able to catch it in the second attempt. Third wicket for Afridi!
  • Shaheen Afridi is back. 7-1-32-2 so far.
  • 45.6 Yorker outside off, Southee looks to drive but gets a bottom edge which just misses the stumps. Another single taken. 177/6
  • 45.5 Full and outside off, pushed through the covers for one.
  • 45.4 Has a wild swipe, only to get an inside edge through square leg. A run results.
  • 45.3 Outside off, pushed down to long off for a couple.
  • 45.2 FOUR! WHOOSH! Full and outside off, Rosco comes down the track and whips it over mid-wicket. The ball nearly goes all the way. Bounces just in front.
  • 45.1 Full and outside off, Taylor looks to play the reverse sweep but the ball goes off the bottom edge past the keeper through third man for a single.
  • 44.6 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery. 167/6
  • 44.5 On middle and leg, flicked through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 44.4 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 44.3 Comes down the trak and chips it over mid on for a single.
  • 44.2 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 44.1 SAFE AS A HOUSE. Full and outside off, Taylor pushes it towards point and sets off for a single. The fielder comes running in and has a shy at the bowler's end and hits the sticks. Pakistan reckon they have their man and it is referred upstairs. Replays though show that Rosco is well in.
  • Is that a run out? Direct hits are usually close. Taylor is the man in question.
  • 43.6 Comes down the track and flicks it straight to short mid-wicket. 164/6
  • 43.5 Comes down the track and looks to flick but misses and is hit on the pads.

  • 40.4 Beaten! A leg spinner around off, Southee tries defending but it spins away to beat the bat.
  • Tim Southee walks in next.
  • 40.3 OUT! Colin de Grandhomme holes out! He flops when New Zealand needed him to fire towards the end overs. Shadab serves a flighted ball on middle, Colin advances down the track and tries to go big over long on. But he fails to get the timing right and Hasan Ali settles underneath near the rope and catches the skier safely.
  • 40.2 Leans forward to a full ball and drives it to covers.
  • 40.1 Tossed up ball on middle, de Grandhomme works it off his pads but finds mid-wicket.

  • 39.4 Play and a miss! A sharp delivery, short and around off, angling in with extra pace and venom, Taylor tries to pull but misses. It goes under his bat to the keeper. Lucky for him, it didn't take any under edge.
  • 39.3 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 39.2 Not out! It indeed is clipping the leg stump. Another delivery by Hasan Ali which has been angled into the batsman. Colin tries flicking it across the line but misses and is rapped on the front pad. They appeal but the umpire shakes his head. Sarfraz goes for the DRS after consulting his bowler but the replays show that it's clipping the leg stump. The umpire's call stays.
  • Appeal for an lbw, not given! Sarfraz has a chat with his bowler and then goes for the DRS. That looked close to the naked eye, let's see... Might be clipping the leg stump...
  • 39.1 Angles in a full ball on off, it's pushed back to the bowler.
  • 38.6 Sliding down the leg side, Taylor gets a faint tickles of his bat on his attempted flick shot and it races to fine leg. • 37.4 De Grandhomme has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • Colin de Grandhomme is the new batsman.
  • 37.3 OUT! Bowled 'em! Hasan Ali foxes the batsman with a slower one. He runs in from 'round the wicket and angles in a length delivery in line of the stumps. Nicholls skips down the track and swings his bat across the line. But since it's a slower one, the ball arrives late. Henry is done with his shot way too early and it goes through to meet the middle stump. Pakistan have finally managed to break the 75-run partnership.
  • 37.2 Back of a length ball on off, angling in, Henry tries working it on the leg side but it takes the leading half of his bat and rolls towards covers.

He gets a leading edge which goes high up in the air and over the head of mid off. Hafeez there runs back, keeps his eyes on the ball, takes it with both hands and then falls onto the ground. • Two different white-ball formats and different fortunes for the Pakistan cricket team. If they are scratchless in the shortest format then they are very much vulnerable in the longer ones. They lost their 12th straight game against the kiwis in this format and their poor form in 2018 continued. With Fakhar Zaman failing to give them the head start, their batting problem don't seem to end. On the flip side, with a lukewarm performance in the T20Is, the Kiwis have stepped up their game. Like they have done in past years in the 50-over format. A chance for them tonight to wrap up the series and take an unassailable lead. Let's see what pans out.

Pakistan Vs New Zealand Live Score (ODI) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • Right then. Pakistan have finally won against a competitive team in ODIs. We now head back to Dubai for the third and final match at 3 pm local (1100 GMT). ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
  • Victorious Pakistan captain, Sarfraz Ahmed, says that it was a complete team performance in this game. On the string of losses against New Zealand, Ahmed says that he believed that the team could make a comeback and it did. Feels happy that Pakistan have plenty of new-ball bowlers. On Imam, the skipper says that the player is hopefully in good shape. On the batting, Sarfraz praises Fakhar for playing his shots and shutting new Zealand out of the game. On the bowling, Ahmed reckons that the team did extremely well in the middle overs and made good use of the reverse swing. On the final game in Dubai, Sarfraz hopes that Pakistan pull off a series win.
  • New Zealand skipper, Kane Williamson, admits that the runs were not enough on the board on the surface. Feels the bowlers tried really hard but it was too difficult. Says that there a few things they need to improve in and they need to build on from the win in Dubai. On the wicket, he feels that it was pacey and under lights, it skidded even more. Says that playing the decider is always exciting and both teams have been in this scenario plenty of times in the past and each would be geared up for the same.
  • SHAHEEN AFRIDI HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. Afridi is feeling great that in two games, his performance has been great. Says that in this match, initially, he felt that he was not able to bowl at all but then came back strongly. Says that he is lucky to be able to take learnings from the seniors.
  • Zaman and Imam made full use of these advantages and had a good stand upfront, before the latter got hit and was taken off the field. Then, Babar Azam joined Fakhar and the duo added 101 but after that, things slowed down a touch, though Pakistan were always in control. Fakhar was unlucky in missing out on his century but otherwise a pretty decent effort from Pakistan. This is their first win after 12 losses on the trot to the Kiwis. Please stay tuned for the presentation...
  • In the run chase, a couple of things came to Pakistan's aid. Dew was around and hence, the bowlers could not grip the ball properly. And there was no swing, hence Boult was negated. There was no spin either. And compared to Dubai, this pitch was not slower in nature.
  • Pakistan did the basics right. Stuck to their lines and lengths and did not allow the Kiwis to cut loose. Then, when reverse swing came into play, they choked the Black Caps further, restricting them to 209. Shaheen Afridi took 4 wickets but the real choke was applied by the spinners who bowled 25 overs between them.
  • We have a decider. Pakistan were far too good tonight. New Zealand did win the toss but it did not prove to be an advantage for them.

The ball lobbed off his shoulder and Ricky Ponting at short mid-wicket dived to his right and took a fantastic catch. Now, come back to present. The bowler is Lockie Ferguson. The batsman is Shoaib Malik. The length is again short. The shot is again the pull. Here too, the ball goes to short leg. The fielder here is Henry Nicholls. He too, like Langer, gets hit on the left shoulder. Again, the ball lobs in the air. Now, there is a slight difference. There, Ponting dived to his right.
