  • Right then! 267 to win for Pakistan to keep the series alive. In the first 2 games, 280 has been proved quite easy to chase down. But this is a slightly different pitch, expected to slow down, as was visible in Powerplay 3 with even Maxwell struggling to time his shots. Now, add the rain factor. Would that have spiced up the pitch? Will the ball skid on to the bat? Will the bowlers find it difficult to grip the ball? All these questions will be answered soon.
  • Pakistan bowled well but questions will be asked to Shoaib Malik as to why did Usman Khan did not bowl his full quota of 10 overs. He was instrumental in keeping Australia quiet in Powerplay 1, with figures of 4-2-8-1 at that stage. Junaid Khan started well but took a beating at the death. The young Hasnain had a poor outing today. But the spin trio of Yasir, Imad and Sohail kept Australia quiet - 3/116 in 27 overs combined.
  • For a change, Aaron Finch won the toss this afternoon and had no hesitation in batting first. The visitors lost two wickets pretty quickly, with the in-form Khawaja bagging a duck. But the 84-run stand between Finch and Handscomb brought the Aussies back on track. The skipper battled on till the 42nd over but then missed out on his century. However, just when Australia seemed to be in a bit of bother, Maxwell put on a Big Show.
  • One man scores 90, another scores 71 - that is how this score of 266 has been largely built for Australia. Aaron Finch laid the platform, Peter Handscomb played a good supporting role and towards the end, Glenn Maxwell teed off. 90 runs came in the last 10 overs, which might prove decisive.
  • 49.6 SIX! Wonderful timing on that! Some way to end the innings by Carey. A short ball, around middle and off, coming in to the batsman, Carey frees his arms and muscles the pull over mid-wicket! AUSTRALIA FINISH ON 266/6!
  • 49.5 A lovely slower bouncer outside off, Alex leaps and tries the upper cut but misses. He looks at the square leg umpire for a wide call but gets nothing.
  • 49.4 Dropped short, Carey pulls it to deep mid-wicket for a couple.
  • 49.3 This is heaved through mid-wicket for a single.
  • 49.2 A pinpoint yorker, around middle, dug out to the leg side, back to the bowler.
  • 49.1 Outside off, Carey backs away and pushes it to the off side for a single.
  • Oops... it is raining again! It is getting pretty heavy and the batsmen are standing in the middle but the umpires are happy to continue.
  • 48.6 Outside off, a slash and a miss. 256/6
  • 48.5 Heaves it down to long on for a single.
  • 48.4 This time Alex slices it over cover for another brace.
  • 48.3 Full on middle and off, Carey is early into his flick and scoops it in the air. Mistimes it but luckily for him, the ball lands in between deep mid-wicket and long on. Two runs taken.
  • 48.2 Outside off, dabbed to third man for a run.
  • 48.1 Full on middle, chipped towards long on for a single.
  • Pat Cummins walks in at number 8, replacing Maxwell.
  • 47.6 OUT! Direct hit and Maxi is gone! Well, a bit too late but Pakistan will take it. This could be the difference between a 260 and a 275. With Maxwell around, anything could have been achieved. A slower ball, outside off, short in length, Maxi looked to pull but missed. He was very careless to stand out of his crease and an alert Rizwan just over-arms at the stumps. Bull's eye and Maxwell has to go. Wonderful knock, has given his team something to defend. 249/6
  • 47.5 Into the pads, worked towards mid-wicket for one.
  • 47.4 Excellent yorker on middle, dug out to the leg side for a run.
  • 47.3 FOUR! Lovely shot. Full and outside off, Maxwell opens the face of the bat and steers it behind point for a boundary!
  • 47.2 A lovely slower ball bouncer, Maxwell ducks or rather sways away. He then looks at the square leg umpire for a wide call but does not get it.
  • 47.1 Full and around middle, swung over mid-wicket for a couple.
  • Junaid Khan is back on. 7-0-40-1 so far.
  • 46.6 Full and outside off, driven through the covers for a run. 241/5
  • 46.5 FOUR! That is a Maxwell special. Not sure how to describe it. But still, will try. First a furious full toss from Usman. Maxwell has no time to see it. Closes his eyes and just plays the whip-pull out of reflex. The ball goes in the air towards deep backward square leg where Junaid Khan comes charging in but is not able to get to the ball. Misses it and it is a boundary.
  • 46.4 On middle and leg, flicked straight to short mid-wicket.
  • 46.3 Outside off, a slash and a miss from Maxi.
  • 46.2 Full on middle, lofted down to long on where Umar Akmal manages to stop it with a dive to his left. But cannot stop the batsmen from returning for the second.
  • 46.1 A flat-batted shot by Carey takes the ball through long on for a single.
  • Usman Shinwari is back into the attack.
  • 45.6 Third two on the trot! Excellent batting with big boundaries. On a length outside off, angled away by Maxwell through to the right of third man. Two taken easily. 17 runs off the over! 233/5
  • 45.5 Another couple! Pakistan are being run ragged out here. Maxwell pushes this length ball through the covers and runs really fast to turn around and come back for the second.
  • 45.4 Two runs taken again and this is once more excellent running by the two batsmen. A length ball, Maxwell swings through the line but gets an inside edge that runs fine on the leg side. Great running to complete two there.
  • 45.3 SIX! That is a terrific shot and it brings up the 50 for the Big Show! His 17th in ODIs. He is turning on the heat out here and every run he adds here is going to hurt Pakistan, especially Imam. A bouncer aimed at the ribs of Maxwell, he just takes his eyes off the ball and swats the ball. It flies off the top edge and over deep fine leg for a maximum.
  • 45.2 FOUR! Short of a length and wide outside off, Maxwell frees his arm and cuts this away hard and in the gap through backward point. Boundary ensues, no stopping that!
  • 45.1 Pulled away for a single to deep square leg.
  • 44.6 Good running! A fuller ball on middle, Maxwell somehow manages to dig it out and gets it through mid-wicket. The batsmen really run well to come back for the second but that is not such good fielding in the deep. 216/5
  • 44.5 On a length and Carey misses his flick to get hit on the pads. The batsmen take a quick single.
  • 44.4 Misfield! Maxwell pushes this to cover but Masood has butter fingers and allows the ball to bobble through towards mid off. Single taken.
  • 44.3 FOUR! The second of the over! Almost close to the same region as the first one. A short ball on the leg side, Maxwell comes inside the line and lifts it over fine leg for a boundary.
  • 44.2 On a length outside off, going away from the right-hander, Maxwell hangs back and punches it away through cover for a couple of runs.
  • 44.1 FOUR! Terrific beginning to the over for the batting side. Junaid bowls this at the body of Maxwell on a shorter length, Maxwell comes inside the line and just lifts it over backward square leg for a boundary. It was almost a maximum.
  • 43.6 DROPPED! Imam has put down Maxwell and this could mean a difference of 20 runs to the final score. On a length outside off, Maxwell cuts it away aerially and the ball flies straight to Imam at point. He cannot react quickly enough and despite getting a hand to it, he cannot hold on. A single is taken. 202/5
  • 43.5 Short of a length and aimed at the body of the southpaw, he manages to keep it out towards mid-wicket. A single is taken.
  • 43.4 Lovely looking drive! Fuller length on middle, Carey gets inside the line and drives it past cover for a couple of runs. The 200 comes up for the visitors.
  • 43.3 Wide outside off, Maxwell backs away and cuts it to deep cover slightly aerially for a single.
  • 43.2 A length ball on the middle stump line, Carey tries to push at it but he gets an inside edge fine to the right of the keeper. A single is stolen.
  • 43.1 On a length on top of middle stump, Carey pushes it from the crease towards point.
  • Mohammad Hasnain is back into the attack.
  • 42.6 FOUR! A short ball, outside off, Maxwell pulls it through mid-wicket for a boundary! 196/5
  • 42.5 Full and around off, watchfully defended.
  • 42.4 That ball has taken the inside edge onto the pads. They pick up a single.
  • 42.3 Down the leg side, tucked fine for a run.
  • 42.2 On middle and leg, tucked to the leg side for a single.
  • 42.1 Full and around off, pushed to the off side.
  • Junaid Khan returns. 5-0-20-1 so far.
  • 41.6 The batsman works it down the leg side. They pick up a single. 189/5
  • 41.5 Full and down the leg side, Carey misses his sweep and is hit on the pads.
  • Alex Carey walks in at number 7, replacing his skipper.
  • 41.4 OUT! CAUGHT! Finch departs. A fuller length delivery on off with a flight. Finch lofts it above mid on but finds Haris Sohail at the long on boundary. An easy catch for Haris Sohail to stop Finch getting another century in this series. A top flighted delivery by Shah, Finch was all set to muscle it out of the park, but fails.
  • 41.3 Maxwell was looking for a scoop but fails to connect.
  • 41.2 FOUR! A reverse sweep by Maxwell over the short third man for a boundary.
  • 41.1 NOT OUT! The decision is reversed. Nothing on the Snickometer. Wonder where the noise came from? Outside off, Maxwell looked to punch it through the off side but missed. Rizwan pouched and appealed instantaneously and given the noise that everyone heard, the umpire raises his finger. Maxwell immediately signalled to Finch to go upstairs and replays supported him, with nothing on the Snickometer.
  • Maxwell is caught behind! But he has asked for a review. There was a noise...
  • 40.6 Full on off, Maxi flicks it to mid-wicket for another single. 183/4
  • 40.5 Finch pulls it for a single at fine leg.
  • 40.4 Full on leg, Maxwell drives it to mid off for a single.
  • 40.3 Back of a length around off, Maxwell pulls it with pure muscle power towards the mid-wicket region for a double.
  • 40.2 Full on leg, Finch flicks it to square leg for a single.
  • 40.1 Back of a length delivery, Shah at mid-wicket misfields it which allows a single.
  • POWERPLAY 3 time. 5 fielders allowed outside the 30-yard circle. Can Australia get to 250? Pakistan have been very disciplined with the ball.
  • 39.6 Down the leg side, flicked straight to deep mid-wicket for a run. 176/4
  • 39.5 The batsman plays a pull shot to this short delivery. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 39.4 Full and on the pads, flicked through mid-wicket for a single.
  • 39.3 Outside off, flayed straight to point. We are getting to that stage where Maxwell wants to get on with it...
  • 39.2 Down the leg side, Maxwell looks to sweep but misses and is hit on the pads.
  • 39.1 Full and outside off, pushed to the off side.
  • 38.6 A fuller length delivery on off, Finch hits it straight to mid off. 173/4

  • 36.6 Full on leg, Finch works it towards the square leg region for a single. 164/4
  • 36.5 A back of length delivery on leg, Maxwell looks to work it towards the mid-wicket region but fails to get his bat on the ball. The ball strikes his pads and bowler goes for a appeal. The umpire shakes his head, as this was pitching outside leg. Maxwell completes a single in the mean time.
  • 36.4 A well directed bouncer by Usman. Maxwell ducks under it. Umpire signals first bouncer for the over.
  • 36.3 Slightly fuller than the previous one, Maxwell pushes it to mid on without moving too much.
  • 36.2 Oooh! Some spice on that ball, on a length and bounces more than Maxwell expected. He looks to defend but it gets him on the glove before lobbing towards the off side.
  • 36.1 A length ball on middle, Maxwell defends it from the crease.
  • Drinks break! Pakistan have picked up wickets at decent intervals but Australia's skipper Aaron Finch is going strong and he looks primed for his 3rd century in a row. Glenn Maxwell has joined him in the middle and the hosts will be looking to separate these two at the earliest as they can be really destructive at the final stages of the innings. On the other hand, the away side will hope for these two to bat as long as possible and score quick runs. Meanwhile, Usman Shinwari is back into the attack.
  • 35.6 A back of a length on off, Finch tries a late cut, gets an inside edge onto the ground. 162/4
  • 35.5 A short delivery on middle and leg, Finch keeps it away.

  • Glenn Maxwell walks out to bat.
  • 30.5 OUT! Another batsman has been knocked over! Third of the four wickets have been bowled. Stoinis is the man walking back and he once again fails to make an impact. Imad who was normally firing it in, slows it up this time. It lands on the leg pole. Stoinis is done in by the pace as he looks to hit it over mid on. He is way too early in the shot. • Peter Handscomb walks out to the middle.
  • 5.4 OUT! In the air... taken! Junaid makes an impact straightaway. The bowling change works wonders for Pakistan. Shaun Marsh has been dismissed for not a lot now. He though can consider himself a touch unlucky here. Firstly a good delivery from Khan, it is on the stumps and pitched on a length. It skids through. Marsh looks to defend but ends up playing outside the line. The ball takes the inside edge, hits the pad and then lobs as far as short mid-wicket. Masood at mid-wicket runs in and takes a sliding catch. The Pakistan players appeal and the umpire raises his finger. They do check for the front foot but it is fine. Australia in a spot of bother here.

  • 3.6 A fuller length delivery, Finch blocks it. Dot ball. 15/1
  • 3.5 A back of a length this time, Hasnain is looking for variation from the track. He is changing his length in a very intelligent way. Marsh just guides it to third man uppishly for a single this time.
  • 3.4 FOUR! Unfortunate for Hasnain, bowls this one fuller length on off, with it shaping in for the left-hander. Shaun Marsh with hard hands tries to drive it down to covers but gets an inside edge onto the ground. And ball goes to the fine leg boundary.

  • 3.1 A full length delivery on leg, shaping into Marsh. Shaun Marsh just punches it to mid on. A hint of swing for Hasnain.
  • 2.6 OHHH! The indecision almost cost Marsh there. Khan bowls it on a length outside off, it is in the corridor of uncertainty. Marsh is no sure whether to play at it or not. He then decides to leave but it is too late for that. The ball goes off the inside edge and past the off pole, towards fine leg for a single. Another good over by Khan comes to an end, a testing one. 10/1

  • Also, the Australian players are seen wearing a black arm band in the remembrance of Bruce Yardley who expired today morning.
  • 1.6 FOUR! A back of a length delivery on off, Marsh stays back on his back foot and waits for the ball to come to him. And just punches it in the gap between cover and point. First boundary for the day. Top shot from Shaun Marsh. 6/1

  • Mohammad Hasnain to bowl from the other end. Shaun Marsh comes out to bat at no. 3.
  • 0.6 OUT! TIMBER! Usman Khan strikes with a peach of a delivery. A well-deserved wicket this as this was a top, top first over and he ends it in the best possible manner. He bowled an inswinger two balls prior which got the inside edge, the ball prior to this one was the away swinger which beat the outside edge. Went back to bringing it back in and gets the better of the in-form Khawaja. Also it is full. Khawaja is rooted to his crease as he looks to drive, leaves a big gap between bat and pad, the ball sneaks through and hits the stumps behind. Khan is pumped up and Pakistan are off to the ideal start. A wicket maiden to begin with by Usman. 0/1
  • 0.5 Good stuff this! Got the last one to come back and gets this one to straighten. Also, he dragged his length back as he saw Khawaja walking down the wicket. The batter once again hangs his bat out and gets beaten.
  • 0.4 Good delivery! Gets this one to jag back in after pitching around off. Khawaja has a tentative poke at it and gets an inside edge onto the pads.
  • 0.3 Look to bring the ball back into the left-hander from outside off, no swing though and it is an easy leave for Khawaja.
  • 0.2 Attacks the off pole this time, Khawaja though gets right behind the line and defends it confidently.
  • 0.1 Yes, a little bit of inward movement but the line is a little outside off, Khawaja shoulders arms to it.
  • We are now set for the game to begin as it was just a passing shower. The players have made their way out to the middle. Usman Khawaja and Aaron Finch are the openers for Australia. Usman Khan will start the proceedings for the hosts. It is quite overcast, will the bowler get the ball to swing? We will find out as Usman comes running in.
  • We were all set for the match to begin but wait! We are not going to begin yet, it has started to rain! Would you believe it? The covers are coming on as well, looks like a passing shower though. Let's hope it is.
  • Pakistan Team News - The two people missing out from the previous game are Mohammad Abbas and Faheem Ashraf, with the latter being rested for all the remaining games.
  • Shoaib Malik, the Pakistani skipper says he wanted to bat first as well. Feels that as compared to the other two venues, there is more grass on this wicket as always in Abu Dhabi. Mentions his side has 2 changes with Usman Shinwari and Junaid Khan coming in. Reserves some praise for the youngster Mohammad Hasnain who generates lots of pace and is an exciting prospect.
  • Aaron Finch, the Australian skipper says that the wicket looks good and wants to put a score on the board. Informs us that his side have 2 changes from the previous game with Pat Cummins and Jason Behrendorff coming in to replace the duo of Jhye Richardson and Nathan Coulter-Nile. Is pretty happy with his own form and would like to continue batting like he did in Sharjah.
  • TOSS - Australia have won the toss and elected to bat first.
  • PITCH REPORT - The analyst, Bazid Khan says that conditions are pretty humid around here, almost 75 per cent. Coming to the surface, he informs us that it is different to the normal Abu Dhabi surfaces as it has a lot of grass covering as opposed to the usual ones. He mentions that usually the pitch slows down in the second half out here but tonight it might actually come on better to the bat off the surface due to the grass cover. Reminds us that the D/L method might come into play as there seem to showers around in the area.
  • Welcome to the third ODI of this 5-match series between Pakistan and Australia in the United Arab Emirates. The visiting side have been excellent so far and comfortably chased down two 280-plus scores that the hosts had put up in the first two games. The Men in Green will have to pull their socks up if they want to keep the series alive. They will hope that they can begin their resurrection at Abu Dhabi. On the other hand, the Kangaroos would like to not allow any kind of chance for the home side to come back in the rubber and continue their domination. With the surface expected to be on the slower side as compared to Sharjah and some chances of rain around, a lot might depend on the coin flip. It's not too far away. Stay tuned...

Pakistan Vs Australia Live Score (ODI) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • That is all we have for you from this game then. This series has certainly not set the world on fire by any means and it struggles to get any meaningful context, with Pakistan not playing their strongest XI and their bench strength not being good enough to challenge Australia. Join us on Friday, January 29, 2019 for the 4th ODI in Dubai at 3 pm local (1100 GMT) to see whether we get a different delicacy served. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
  • Not surprisingly, Pat Cummins has been named the Man Of The Match. Just his second MOM award in ODIs after his first against England on Australia Day, i.e., Jan 26, 2018.
  • It was a welcome return from rest for Pat Cummins, demolishing the top order and not allowing Pakistan a look in. The burst that he produced allowed the other bowlers to build pressure and every bowler apart from Stoinis got at least one wicket. Adam Zampa cleaned up the tail, taking 4 wickets in his last 10 balls.
  • There were a couple of partnerships in the middle stages of the innings, one involving Imam-ul-Haq and one involving Umar Akmal but that just delayed the inevitable. No one could hang in long out there in the middle and with the run rate mounting with every passing over, the risks came about but did not quite pay off.
  • On paper, 267 does not look a great target but that is where it comes a bit different in Abu Dhabi. The pitch tends to get slower as the game progresses and that is exactly how it turned out. Pakistan did not get a great start and were 16/3 by the 7th over. There itself, the run chase looked stuffed out.
  • Easy peasy then for Australia. Series done and dusted with 2 matches to go. Chase was the case in the first two games but not here. Pakistan have clearly not got their best side on paper but make no mistake, the Aussies were at their best.
  • 44.4 OUT! Decision overturned and that is the end of the match. Full length delivery on off, turning in for the right-hander. Hasnain fails to read the googly. He fails to connect the bat to the ball while defending. The ball hits his back leg. Zampa appeals but the umpire turns it down. Finch has a chat and then takes it upstairs. Hawk Eye shows the ball will hit the leg stump. A comfortable 80-run victory for Australia.
  • Big shout for LBW! The umpire denies it though. Hasnain has been hit in front of the stumps and Australia look confident. Review taken...
  • Mohammad Hasnain is the last man in.
  • 44.3 OUT! Caught! Number 9 falls and Zampa has his third in the span of 9 balls. Tossed up outside off, Junaid comes down the track and swings hard but is nowhere close to the ball. It spins away, takes the top edge and goes high in the air. Carey calls for it and takes it reverse-cup.

  • 42.3 Usman looks to flick this googly but fails to put bat on ball. The ball rolls towards the leg side.
  • 42.2 Kept out off the back foot by Usman Khan.
  • Usman Shinwari walks in at number 9.
  • 42.1 OUT! Imad falls now. And the last hope for Pakistan going back to the hut. A flighted delivery on off, Imad falls for the trap. Dances down the pitch and misses the ball completely. Alex Carey just whips the bails off. Hang on! Replays show us that he had collected the ball in front of the stumps but it has gone unnoticed. Not that it would have mattered much in the context of the game, but it should have been spotted.

As for the visitors, they will try to keep it tight and pile up the pressure even more on Pakistan.
  • 20.4 OUT! LBW! Three reds and Pakistan lose both - Imam and a review. The arm ball from Maxwell, Imam does not read it and plays from the crease. Big mistake.
