  • After the initial havoc, Santner was the one who kept Bangladesh quiet in the middle overs, finishing with 3 scalps. Boult ended with 3 while Ferguson was pacy. The Kiwis will back themselves to gun down 232 but a few days ago, batting first against India, they had folded up for 157 at this very venue - with Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal snaring 6 wickets. Do Bangladesh spinners have a chance? Join us back at 6.15 pm local (0515 GMT).
  • The start was excellent for the Kiwis. They blew the top and middle order away, taking 4 wickets inside Powerplay 1. Trent Boult and Matt Henry were the chief destroyers but then the tourists managed to battle it out and forge a partnership. Mohammad Mithun kept the innings going at one end and got a couple of good partners in Mehidy Hasan and Mohammad Saifuddin.
  • Well, after winning the toss and electing to bat, 232 is not what Mortaza would have expected. But he would have definitely HOPED that his side cross 200 from 94/6. At the moment, both teams would be happy with the situation.
  • 48.5 OUT! Bowled off a yorker! Bangladesh do not play out their 50 overs. Mustafizur tries his best to dig it out but the ball takes the inside edge and then hits the stumps. BANGLADESH FINISH ON 232!
  • 48.4 Finally connects. Backs away and slogs hard but straight to long off. Just a single.
  • 48.4 WIDE. Gets well across his stumps and Boult fires it down the leg side. Gets punished.
  • 48.3 Nothing on the Free Hit. A full toss, outside off, MM backs away but guides it straight to short third man!
  • FREE HIT TIME! Where can Mash hit this?
  • 48.3 OOPS! NO BALL! Where did that come from? A high full toss, right at the batsman's head. Mortaza just about sways away in time.
  • 48.2 Full and outside off, blocked towards mid off.
  • 48.1 A full toss, flicked towards mid-wicket.
  • 47.6 On middle and leg, Rahman flicks it to the fielder at mid-wicket. 229/9
  • 47.5 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 47.4 Shorter in length, Mustafizur initially looks to play it but the decides to leave it. He is stuck in between those two and the ball goes to the keeper. There is a slight noise when it goes towards Latham. Ferguson appeal but the umpire turns it down. The replays show it flicked his shoulder on its way to the keeper.
  • 47.3 Good length delivery outside off, Rahman blocks it away.
  • 47.2 Full on middle and leg, Mustafizur hits it to the fielder at mid on.
  • Mustafizur Rahman is the last man in. 17 balls left. Can the visitors play those out and get to 250?
  • 47.1 OUT! Mithun's magnificent innings comes to an end. Good length delivery on middle, Mithun looks to heave it across the line but misses and the ball disturbs the leg pole. His heroic 62 has definitely given Bangladesh bowlers something to bowl at.
  • 46.6 Backs away and hits it through the covers for a run. 229/8
  • 46.5 Another leg bye, as the skipper misses out on the pull this time.
  • 46.4 Down the leg side, Mash misses his tuck and the ball goes off his thighs towards square leg. A couple of leg byes taken.
  • 46.3 Outside off, a yorker, Mortaza backs away, looking to dig it out but misses.
  • 46.2 Played to the point region by the batsman. They pick up a single.
  • 46.1 Full and outside off, driven through mid off for a single.
  • Trent Boult is back into the attack.
  • 45.6 Excellent yorker, on middle, Mortaza just about digs it out. The ball goes behind and just misses the leg stump. An alert Mithun calls his skipper through for a run. 223/8
  • 45.5 FOUR! Cheeky from Mash! A short ball, outside off, coming at the body, Mortaza arches his back and guides it over the keeper to the third man fence!
  • 45.4 Full and outside off, squeezed through the covers for a couple.
  • 45.3 Very full, outside off, Mortaza wants to push and run to the off side but cannot beat point.
  • 45.2 Pushed to the cover region by the batsman. They pick up a single.
  • 45.1 Full and outside off, pretty wide, played straight to point.
  • Lockie Ferguson is back on. 8-0-36-1 so far.
  • 44.6 Full on the stumps, Mortaza starts his innings with a front foot defense. 215/8
  • In comes the skipper, Mashrafe Mortaza. His 100th international game as captain.
  • 44.5 OUT!!! The partnership is finally broken. Flatter delivery outside off, Saifuddin looks to sweep but hits it straight to the fielder at mid-wicket. Martin Guptill there makes no mistake and holds onto the ball. A great innings from Saifuddin in the context of the game comes to an end. He departs for 41 and the 84-run stand is broken. His innings has kept Bangladesh in the game. But can they play out their 50 overs? Santner gets his 3rd of the evening.
  • 44.4 Tossed up on middle and leg, Saifuddin hits it wide of long on and gets a couple.
  • 44.3 Tossed up on off, Mohammad pushes it to the fielder at cover.
  • 44.2 Flighted outside off, Mithun pushes it to cover for a single.
  • 44.1 Great cricket all around. Flighted delivery outside off, Saifuddin sweeps it hard through mid-wicket. Trent Boult in the deep dives to his right and tries to collect the ball. He cannot do so and he runs behind the spill and dives again to stop it from going to the fence. He pulls it back and Matt Henry runs across to his left and does the mopping up. The batsmen take three runs.
  • Bizarre. Because of that dead ball, umpire Ravi thought that he had miscalculated. Held up play for a while, confirmed with the umpire upstairs and then continued the game.
  • 43.6 FOUR! Full toss, around middle, Mithun swings it over mid-wicket and gets a boundary! 209/7
  • 43.5 Played to the mid-wicket region by the batsman.
  • 43.4 5 PENALTY RUNS! The ball has indeed hit the helmet. Short and outside off, Mithun looked to cut but missed. The ball bounced in front of Latham and he fumbled. It then rolled back and almost hit the helmet behind, with Latham desperately diving to shove it away. The batsmen took a single but Tom's reaction seemed to indicate that the ball had hit the helmet. Yes, when referred upstairs, replays showed that his glove hit the ball after it hit the protection gear. The single is cancelled as the ball is ruled dead after it hits the helmet.
  • HAS THAT HIT THE HELMET? We could be in a situation of penalty here. Latham has misfielded and looks like the ball has rolled behind and hit the helmet kept there. The umpires are checking...

  • 43.2 Yorker length on middle, Saifuddin gets his bat down on time and keeps it out.

He looks to flick but then slips. Tries to get back but struggles. Latham takes some time to collect and whips the bails off and that makes the umpire to go upstairs. • 15.1 Short and outside off, punched straight to point.
  • 15.1 WIDE. A short ball, but own the leg side. Mahmudullah bails out. Good diving stop by Latham to his left.
  • DRINKS BREAK. New Zealand are well on top here. They have got rid off the top 4 Bangladeshi batsmen and are probably a wicket away from getting into the tail. The visitors are looking to rebuild and desperately need this Mithun-Mahmudullah stand to flourish and last long. This partnership is crucial for the visitors if they want to post a defendable total.

  • 8.1 Full and around off, driven straight to cover.
  • Mohammad Mithun walks in at number 5, replacing Rahim.

To the naked eye, it looks pretty straight and plumb in front. But umpire Ravi looks very calm and then shakes his head. • 29.3 On the pads, helped to the right of the square leg fielder for a run. Taylor is off the mark.
  • 29.2 Shout for an lbw! Not given. Saifuddin spears in a fuller length ball on middle, Guptill flicks it at the last moment off the inside half and it speeds through mid-wicket for a run. Mortaza looks at his keeper who has his hands on his head. The umpire doesn't signal anything and hence they decide not to take the DRS.
  • 29.1 A touch short and outside off, Guptill gets behind the line and pushes it towards mid off.
  • 28.6 Flighted off spinner on off, Taylor leans forward and defends it back. End of a successful over. 137/2
  • Ross Taylor walks in next. 4 less than a 100 is needed for a win off 127 balls. A slip is in place.
  • 28.5 OUT! A flatter off spinner landing around middle and skidding in a bit, Williamson goes down and across to sweep but misses and is hit on the pads. They put in an unsuccessful appeal but Rahim is very sure. He and the bowler convince the skipper to take the DRS and the replays find Williamson to be trapped in front. The impact is in line and it's hitting leg. The Kiwi skipper is on his way back.

  • Mahmudullah to bowl now.
  • 25.6 This one lands on a fuller length around off and turns back in a bit, Guptill drills it through covers for a single. 23 runs in the last three overs after a wicket maiden. Clearly Bangladesh haven't managed to build any kind of pressure. 126/1

  • 25.3 A firm cover drive off the front foot but straight to the fielder.

  • 25.1 Clips it off his pads in front of square leg and rushes across to the other end.
  • 24.6 Quicker and fuller on middle, Guptill tries to flick but closes the face of the bat early. It goes off the leading edge to third man and they take two. 118/1

  • 24.3 Works it with the spin but finds the square leg fielder.
  • 24.2 Eases a full ball down to long on for a run.

  • 23.4 Risky way to get off the mark. Full ball on middle, Williamson flicks it to mid-wicket where Sabbir dives to make a partial stop. Kane wants to make use of that opportunity to open his account and rushes to the other end. Sabbir recovers from his dive and attempts an under-arm flick onto the stumps at the non-striker's end but misses. Would have been safe, anyway.
  • 23.3 Gets forward and drives it back to the bowler. Kane is yet to get off the mark.

  • 21.2 Gets back and hits it on the leg side, dot ball.
  • 21.1 A full toss on off, Nicholls walks forward and drills it to wide long on for a run. Guptill slips while turning for the second and hence they will have to settle for just a single.
  • 20.6 What happened there? Skidding down the leg side, Guptill fails to flick and it brushes his pads on its way to the keeper. Rahim fumbles slightly but no run conceded. Hang on, the Hot Spot detects a tiny edge. So technically it's a dropped catch. And more... the replays find that Guptill had left the crease while attempting his shot and had Rahim collected the all, there would have been a stumping opportunity as well. After all that drama, Bangladesh still remain wicketless. 100/0

  • 20.4 Fullish and on off, defended back to the bowler.
  • 20.3 FOUR! Great placement! The length is short and outside off, Henry reaches out for it and crunches it through the gap at covers. No one in the deep and it's a boundary. Fifty for Nicholls, his 7th in ODIs. Making the opening spot familiar.

Bangladesh's bowling hasn't looked threatening at all. Not sure from where the first breakthrough will come for them. 165 needed more. Seems like a one-way traffic from here unless something miraculous happens.

  • 12.6 Around off, solidly defended. 50/0
  • 12.5 Fielder is down, the bat is down too! 50-RUN OPENING STAND. After 16 ODI innings for New Zealand. The previous half century stand for them came against Pakistan in Wellington, on January 19, 2018. Guptill and Munro were the ones involved. Full and around off, Henry pushes it towards mid off and sets off for a quick single. The fielder comes charging in and looks to pick up and throw but slips.
