Mumbai Indians Vs Delhi Capitals Live Score (T20) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • That's all from Super Sunday. Andre Russell's whirlwind knock earned Kolkata a win from the jaws of defeat while Rishabh Pant's scintillating innings outclassed Mumbai in their own den. The first Monday of this year's Indian T20 League will see Rajasthan locking horns against Punjab at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. The action begins at 2000 IST (1430 GMT). Do join us then. Cheers!
  • Man of the Match, Rishabh Pant says that it's been a great journey and he is learning with every passing time. Adds that his plan is to play as per the situation. Mentions that he took his chances and got away with a few. Also states that in T20 you have to do something different and that's what he tries to do. He is happy to bat at any position and it doesn't matter much if they are winning.
  • Victorious Delhi skipper, Shreyas Iyer is all smiles and says that they have got a good start. Adds that he was well-prepared for the captaincy role as he has been doing that for the India A team. On Delhi leading the H2H now, Iyer says that they prepared well and ticked in all the boxes. He is satisfied with the overall effort and atmosphere and wants to put in a consistent show. On Rishabh Pant, Iyer terms him as a destructive batsman and also adds that he has matured a lot over the years. On Kagiso Rabada's bowling, Shreyas says that he is a good bowler to have as he puts in full effort and bowls with a lot of venom.
  • Ishant Sharma also gives an interview. He admits that he was very nervous after watching Pant bat as the ball was flying to all parts. He is happy with his bowling performance. Holding nerves and executing plans are the key, adds Ishant. States that they are gelling well together as a team. Considers this win as really important as they have a new team and coaching staff and it's a big boost to them.
  • Mumbai skipper, Rohit Sharma says that the first game is always challenging for a team and admits that they made a lot of mistakes today. Adds that they were in the game in the first 10 overs when they were bowling and credits Rishabh Pant for the way he batted. Feels that they didn't hit the right length but is positive that they will learn and bounce back. Mentions that they had a nice combination but it could change according to the conditions. On the pitch, Rohit replies that it was good for batting but rues the fact that no one batted deep.
  • Wet ball, dew around, problems if you are a bowler. But Delhi had the cushion of 213 runs behind them and Ishant's tidy start kept the pressure on Mumbai. Then Kagiso Rabada maintained that and the home side could never get going consistently for a long period of time. Rahul Tewatia was in the record books, not for his bowling but for his fielding - 4 catches he took in the game, becoming just the 4TH FIELDER to achieve this feat - after Sachin Tendulkar, David Warner and Jacques Kallis. Please stay tuned for the presentation...
  • With the seeds being sown in the first innings itself, thanks to Rishabh Pant's blitzkrieg, Mumbai needed a terrific start, which they did not get. The openers did threaten a little but 33/0 became 45/3 in next to no time. The middle order then tried to rally around Yuvraj Singh but it was too much to be done. Eventually, Yuvraj was the only one who crossed the 50-mark when ideally, he should have had a couple of more mates doing that.
  • A 37-run win for Delhi to get their tournament running. Who would have thought? Probably a few statisticians. The last time Mumbai won their opening match in the Indian T20 League was way back in 2012.
  • 19.2 OUT! Stumped! Bumrah won't bat and that is it. DELHI WIN BY 37 RUNS! A flighted ball around off, McClenaghan winds up for a big shot across the line and drags his back leg out in the process. Rishabh Pant collects the ball and breaks the stumps in a flash. No need to go upstairs and Delhi are celebrating.
  • 19.1 Tries to slog it over the leg side but mistimes it. It goes off the inside edge.
  • Rahul Tewatia to bowl.
  • 18.6 Back of a length ball on off, McClenaghan just helps his pull shot in front of square leg for one. 176/8
  • 18.5 Chips a length ball over mid on and completes a run.
  • 18.4 Dropped? Full and on off, Salam drives it uppishly through covers where Ingram jumps but only manages a few fingertips on the ball. The ball slows down as it travels in the deep and they take a couple.
  • 18.3 The batsman has done well to keep that yorker at bay.
  • 18.2 Pushed to the cover region by the batsman. Two runs added to the total.
  • Rasikh Salam is in next.
  • 18.1 OUT! Yuvraj is done for the night! Fourth catch for Rahul Tewatia tonight. Rabada gets his line right finally and hunts down the prized scalp of Yuvraj. He angles in a length ball on off, Singh tries to heave it into the stand at mid-wicket but fails to get the desired connection. Tewatia comes running in from the deep and takes the catch. Smiles all around in the Delhi camp.
  • 18.1 Another wide! Once again Rabada slips a full ball down the leg side. Singh tries his best to get some bat behind it but fails.
  • 18.1 Wide! Full ball sliding down the leg side, Yuvraj tries to flick but misses.
  • 17.6 FOUR! Cracking shot! A little bit of width on offer outside off, McClenaghan exercises his arms and powers his drive to the cover fence. 46 off 12 balls. 168/7
  • 17.5 Spears in a very full ball on middle and leg, McClenaghan tries to flick but misses. It hits him on the pads and rolls to the leg side.
  • 17.4 The batsman plays the pull-shot. They pick up a single.
  • 17.3 FOUR! Yuvraj reaches his fifty with a streaky shot, 13th in the League. Boult hurls in a shortish ball around off, angling in, Singh swings his bat hard and edges it wide of short third man.
  • 17.2 Good length ball on middle, Singh gets behind the line and blocks it to the leg side.
  • 17.1 Fetches a full toss from outside off and swings it to deep square leg. Denies the single.
  • Trent Boult is back on.
  • 16.6 FOUR! Cheeky! A full toss in the line of the stumps, McClenaghan walks across the stumps and paddles it fine down the leg side for a boundary. 55 needed off 18 balls. 159/7
  • 16.5 Uppish but safe! Rabada bangs in a short ball on off from 'round the wicket, Yuvraj mistimes his pull shot in the air towards mid-wicket. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 16.4 A full toss on off, McClenaghan drags it off the inner half through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 16.3 Good length ball on middle, skidding through, Mitchell tries to defend but misses and is hit high on the pads.
  • Mitchell McClenaghan's turn with the bat.
  • 16.2 OUT! There is a thin outside edge. A full length delivery outside off, skidding off the surface after landing, Cutting tries hitting it down with a straight bat but fails to middle. Pant collects the ball, they appeal and the finger goes up after a delay. Cutting takes the DRS after consulting his partner but the replays find some wood. Yuvraj running out of partners.
  • Ben Cutting has been given out caught behind! He consults his partner and takes the DRS. Let's find out...
  • 16.2 Wide! Slips a length ball down the leg side, Singh fails to flick and Pant also struggles while collecting it. They cross.
  • 16.1 Too full in length outside off, Cutting squeezes it through cover-point for a run.
  • Time out! If Andre Russell can do it, so can Yuvraj Singh. Don't lose hope if you are backing Mumbai. We have seen that happening earlier in the evening and if Yuvi gets going, we will be in for yet another thrilling finish. All about nerves from hereon. Kagiso Rabada is back on...
  • 15.6 SIX! 16 from the over! Yuvraj has attacked Axar here. Receives one more shorter delivery and he turns to dismiss it over mid-wicket. 150 up for Mumbai. 64 needed off 24 balls. 150/6
  • 15.5 The batsman has lofted that over mid wicket. One run added to the total.
  • 15.4 In the air... SAFE! Flatter ball on middle, Yuvraj turns inside the crease for the pull shot but top edges it in the air. It falls in no man's land at mid-wicket and they cross.
  • 15.3 SIX! High and handsome! Yuvraj is Mumbai's last hope and he certainly is keeping it alive by playing big shot. Lines up for a big shot and clobbers it over the bowler's head.
  • 15.2 Goes on the back foot and punches it to long on for one.
  • 15.1 Played through mid-wicket by the batsman. One run added to the total.
  • Ben Cutting arrives.
  • 14.6 OUT! Krunal is out of here! He eyes the mid-wicket fence and swings his bat accordingly. But his shot lacks the desired power to clear the fielder. Rahul Tewatia once again is in action as he takes the catch easily. A little cameo from Krunal is over but Mumbai needed more from him. 80 required off 30 balls. 134/6
  • 14.5 On a length outside off, Pandya flashes and misses.
  • 14.4 FOUR! What a shot! Boult once again fails to land a delivery and Krunal makes full use of that. Latches onto it and muscles it down the ground for a boundary.
  • 14.3 A cracking yorker, right in the blockhole, Yuvraj digs it out to the off side for one.
  • 14.3 Wide called! Good length delivery wide outside off, Singh leaves it alone. Boult is unhappy that it has been wided. That was very close to the tramline. 50-50 call.
  • 14.2 Hangs on the back foot and hammers a length ball down to long on for one.
  • 14.1 FOUR! Once again the over begins with a boundary. Full toss around leg, Krunal picks it off his pads and swings it off the inner half to fine leg for a boundary.
  • Trent Boult returns. 91 needed off 36 balls.
  • 13.6 Digs in a short ball on middle, Krunal turns inside the crease and pulls it in front of square leg. The fielder in the deep collects it on one bounce and they collect a run. 15 from the over. 123/5
  • 13.5 FOUR! Another full toss. Way wide outside off, Krunal reaches out and guides it past short third man for a boundary. Poor bowling.
  • 13.4 FOUR! That went to the fence in the blink of an eye! A full toss by Ishant at 141 kph. Quicker it comes to the batsman and it's been drilled to covers.
  • 13.3 A cutter this time, outside off, Krunal sticks back to play the square cut but is beaten due to the slowness.
  • 13.2 Sharp delivery, at 140 kph and outside off, Krunal flashes and misses.
  • 13.1 SIX! Welcome into the attack, Ishant! Back of a length ball around off, Krunal keeps his weight on the back foot and dispatches it over wide long on for a biggie.
  • Ishant Sharma is back on.
  • 12.6 Batsman struggling to pick Keemo. He hurls in another slower one, short and on middle, Krunal fails to put bat on ball and is hit on the body. It deflects on the off side and they cross. Given as a run, maybe some inside edge there. 108/5
  • 12.6 Wide! Slips one down the leg side, Pandya tries flicking but misses.
  • 12.5 FOUR! Another knuckle delivery, overpitched on middle, Krunal smacks it straight down the ground for a boundary at long off.
  • 12.4 The batsman works it down the leg side. They pick up a single.
  • 12.3 Slower and on middle, shorter in length, Yuvraj once again is early into his pull shot and takes a blow on his chest.
  • 12.2 Short in length around leg, Yuvraj is a bit early into his pull shot and gets hit on the gloves. Misses out on a gift and smiles.
  • Mumbai's bowling mentor, Zaheer Khan is having a chat with Ian Bishop on the sidelines. Zak says that Mumbai have lost one wicket too many at this stage. But hopes that they get one partnership in the middle and two set batsmen then put the pressure on the bowlers. Is hopeful of chasing even at 13 an over in the final 5 if Yuvraj stays till the end and remarks that even Ben Cutting is yet to come. On his earlier franchise, Delhi, Khan is full of praise for Rishabh Pant and reckons that the team is looking good this season. Feels that the youngster's knock added some 20-25 runs to Delhi's total. Smiles on Mumbai's state right now and cheekily adds that Mumbai are used to poor starts in the Indian T20 League.
  • 12.1 Shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
  • 11.6 Good tag team work in the deep between Boult and Rabada! A tossed up ball on middle, Krunal advances down the track and mistimes his heave over mid-wicket. Boult rushes across to his right in the deep and puts in a diving effort to pull it back. Rabada who has run in from long on does the rest. Two saved. 100 up for Mumbai! 101/5
  • 11.5 Fires across a flatter and shorter ball wide outside off, Singh cracks it off his back foot to sweeper cover for a run.
  • 11.4 Goes down on one knee for a big slog sweep but it catches the inside half of the bat and rolls in front of square leg. Two added to the total.
  • 11.3 Tickles it off his pads to the leg side for one.
  • Krunal Pandya is in next.
  • 11.2 OUT! Caught and bowled! Hardik departs without troubling the scorers. Patel lets out a flatter and shorter ball around middle and off. Hardik goes on the back foot to play the punch but he hits it back aerially. Patel goes down quickly to take the catch and it's another blow to Mumbai.
  • 11.1 A flatter fuller ball on off, Pandya pushes it to covers.
  • 10.6 Pitches it up and on middle, it's played back to the bowler who stops it with a dive in his followthrough. 95/4
  • Hardik Pandya is the new batsman.
  • 10.5 OUT! All West Indian show! Keemo has removed Kieron! He has deceived the big Trinidadian with a well-disguised slower one at 113 kph. Pollard is way too early into his shot and ends up spooning it high in the air towards sweeper cover. Rahul Tewatia takes the skier safely to bring an end to a 50-run stand. 119 needed off 55 balls.
  • 10.4 50-run stand comes up! Good length delivery outside off, Yuvraj steers it through point for one.
  • 10.3 FOUR! Boom! Typical Yuvraj! Gets an overpitched delivery outside off and he has jabbed it over mid off for a boundary. Looking in dangerous mood.
  • 10.2 Play and a miss! Full and wide outside off, Yuvraj tries powering it over covers but fails to connect. The umpire feels it's just inside the tramline.
  • 10.1 Good length delivery on middle, Pollard works it through backward square leg and takes a run.
  • 9.6 FOUR! Another wonderful shot! Full and down the leg side, Yuvraj swings it over square leg and ends the over in style! 20 from the over! 89/3
  • 9.5 SIX! Phenomenal shot! Shades of the old Yuvi paa. Short and outside off, Yuvraj stays deep in the crease and flays it over extra cover. The ball goes all the way!
  • 9.4 Nearly through! Full and around off, Pollard looks to defend but is late getting his bat down. The ball skids through, takes the outside edge and just beats short third man. A single taken.
  • 9.3 FOUR! Full and down the leg side, Pollard flicks it past short fine leg and finds the fence!
  • 9.2 TOP EDGE, SAFE! Lucky escape for Yuvraj. Full and around middle, Singh looks to play the slog sweep but gets a top edge. The bowler runs behind but cannot quite get there. Neither can long on. The ball lands safely and the batsmen take a run.
  • 9.1 MISFIELD, FOUR! Sloppy from Dhawan. Full and down the leg side, Yuvraj sweeps it straight to short fine leg. Shikhar Dhawan comes running in but lets it slip. The ball races through. An apology is rendered by Shikhar to his bowler and captain.
  • STRATEGIC BREAK. 145 more needed from 11 overs. With Pollard around, anything is possible. With Yuvi around, any side could get tensed - the opposition or even his own, if he does not get going. With Hardik Pandya and Ben Cutting to come, nothing is unachievable. Mumbai would still believe. Dew has made its presence felt too. What about Delhi? Would they be taking it lightly? At their own peril. Here comes AXAR PATEL.
  • 8.6 Similar ball, similar shot, but this time it is cut in front of point for one. 69/3
  • 8.5 FOUR! Supreme placement. Short and outside off, Yuvraj cuts it hard into the ground and beats backward point. Third man starts to race to his left but the ball is quicker.

  • 8.1 WIDE. Starts with a short one, banged around middle, Yuvraj lets it pass. Wide signalled.
  • Keemo Paul is into the attack.
  • 7.6 SIX! Up and over the sightscreen! Safest part to hit. Floated delivery, landing full around off, Pollard plants his front foot forward and smokes it over the bowler's head. 61/3
  • 7.5 Goes on the back foot to a shortish ball and punches it down to long on for a run.
  • 7.4 Flighted leg spinner, landing outside off, Yuvraj tries to defend but misses. He is hit on the pads, they appeal but nothing from the umpire. Impact outside off. Also, maybe there was some inside edge.

  • 5.6 Full and angling in on middle, Pollard pushes it down to mid on and crosses for a quick single. 46/3 in the Powerplay! 46/3
  • Kieron Pollard is in next.
  • 5.5 OUT! Two wickets in the over and Mumbai are forced on the back foot. This is a massive blow. Quinton de Kock is out of here. Back of a length ball angling down the leg side, de Kock pulls it across the line and it flies towards Boult at fine leg. The Kiwi times his jump to perfection near the fence and takes a fine catch over his head. A disappointed Quinton is on his bike.
  • 5.4 Sharp delivery, on a length and outside off at 143.2 kph, de Kock chases and misses.
  • 5.3 FOUR! And again! De Kock holds the key for Mumbai here. Longer he stays, better it is for their chance. He has whacked a length ball landing on middle to the deep mid-wicket fence.
  • 5.2 FOUR! Short around leg, de Kock gets inside the bounce and pulls it down to fine leg for a boundary.
  • Huge cheer from the crowd as Yuvraj Singh arrives to bat at the Wankhede Stadium. 177 needed off 89 balls.
  • 5.1 OUT! Yadav is well short! Second blow to Mumbai inside the Powerplay. A length ball on off, Suryakumar bunts it down to mid off and takes on the Delhi skipper. The replays confirm that SKY will have to go. Mumbai in a spot of bother.
  • Direct hit again by Shreyas Iyer. This time he is smiling. Delhi are celebrating. They feel Suryakumar is gone. Let's see...
  • 4.6 Slower one this time, on a good length around middle, de Kock defends it off his back foot. Yet another top over, 4 from it, 9 in the last two, Mumbai have not got the kind of start they required. 37/1
  • 4.5 Rabada is bowling with a lot of fire. Clocks 150.9 kph this time and bowls a short ball on middle, Suryakumar helps it down to fine leg for a run.
  • 4.4 A yorker at 150.6 kph, de Kock digs it out to the off side for a run.
  • 4.3 Direct hit but no harm done. Full and on middle, Yadav pushes it down to mid on and rushes across to the other end. Shreyas Iyer scores a direct hit at the bowler's end but Suryakumar is safely in.
  • 4.2 Another delivery skidding off the surface at 145.8 kph, de Kock is beaten due to the excessive pace and gets struck high on the pads. It rolls to the off side and they cross for a leg bye.
  • 4.1 Back of a length delivery on middle, hurrying onto the batsman, de Kock mistimes his shot to mid-wicket.
  • Kagiso Rabada is into the attack now. He will be bowling to his countryman here.

  • 3.4 Play and a miss! Good length delivery outside off, Yadav pushes at it tamely and misses.
  • Suryakumar Yadav is the new batsman.
  • 3.3 OUT! Another knuckle ball and this time Sharma, the bowler has got the better of Sharma, the batsman. Rohit tries to flick it across the line but fails to close the face of his bat properly. It balloons in the air and Rahul Tewatia is waiting for it to come to him at the edge of the fence at deep square leg. He realizes very late that it's not coming to him and he has to make the effort to reach it. Does well to react and then completes the catch by diving forward. Nearly made a mess. Rohit departs and it's a body blow to the Mumbai unit.
  • 3.2 FOUR! Plenty of wrist work behind this shot. Sharma vs Sharma, and Sharma, the batsman has won this contest. A knuckle delivery, on a length around middle, Rohit flicks it over short fine leg and Kagiso Rabada runs after it. Rahul Tewatia also puts in a run in the deep to his right but fails to prevent the boundary.
  • 3.1 Misses out! Back of a length delivery down the leg side, de Kock fails to get any wood behind it. It goes off his thigh pad to short fine leg and they steal a leg bye.
  • 2.6 Another overpitched ball on middle, flicked firmly to deep mid-wicket for one. 17 from the over, that's the kick Mumbai needed at the start. Cannot sit back now though, need to keep scoring at this rate. 28/0
  • 2.5 FOUR! De Kock on fire! This is a real gift from the Kiwi to him. A juicy full toss on the pads, de Kock picks it up and clips it fine down the leg side.
  • 2.4 SIX! Enough of sighters for de Kock! He has started to open his arms now. Back of a length ball angling into him, Quinton has that right in the arc as he smashes it over mid-wicket.

  • 1.4 Good length delivery outside off, a mistimed off drive by Sharma towards mid off.
  • 1.3 Full in length around off, it's flicked with good timing by de Kock and the mid on fielder moves across to his left to make a tumbling stop. They take a run.
  • 1.2 Edgy! Angling into the batsman, on a length, Sharma tries flicking but it takes the inside edge and flies wide of mid-wicket. A single is taken.
  • 1.1 Played to the mid-wicket region by the batsman.

  • 0.3 Beaten all ends up! Boult angles across a length delivery outside off, Rohit tries playing straight but it beats the outside edge.
  • 0.2 Good length ball on middle, de Kock turns it in the gap on the leg side and crosses.
  • 0.1 Starts with a length delivery. Angling away from the batsman around off, Sharma gently pushes it towards extra cover and rushes to the other end.
