  • Match no.9 sees two in-form teams facing each other, India and New Zealand. India, on the back of two consecutive wins are just one win away from securing a place in the semi-finals. Smriti Mandhana is likely to return for this crucial fixture and that is a big boost for the batting line-up of the Indians. Their bowlers have done a wonderful job and would hope to continue doing the same. The White Ferns, on the other hand, started the tournament well against Sri Lanka but now are facing a tough opponent in India. They have a strong side at their disposal and would want them to come good and move one step closer to the semi-final stage. Will India enter the semi-finals with one game to spare or will New Zealand manage back-to-back wins? Toss and team updates in a while.
  • Toss - New Zealand have won the toss and they elect to field first.
  • Sophie Devine, the New Zealand skipper, says they are bowling first as there is a bit of rain around and they would look to make use of the conditions. Goes onto say that they have made two changes to their side. Adds that India is a dangerous side and they would have to be on their toes.
  • Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian skipper, says that they would have batted first. Adds that they have made two changes. Smriti Mandhana and Radha Yadav come in for Richa Ghosh and Arundhati Reddy. States that they need to improve batting in the overs between 7 to 14.
  • India (Playing XI) - Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana (In place of Richa Ghosh), Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Deepti Sharma, Veda Krishnamurthy, Shikha Pandey, Taniya Bhatia (WK), Radha Yadav ( In place of Arundhati Reddy), Poonam Yadav, Rajeshwari Gayakwad.
  • New Zealand (Playing XI)- Sophie Devine (C), Rachel Priest (WK), Suzie Bates, Maddy Green, Katey Martin, Amelia Kerr, Hayley Jensen, Anna Peterson (In place of Katie Perkins), Leigh Kasperek, Lea Tahuhu, Rosemary Mair (In place of Jess Kerr).
  • Pitch report - Ian Bishop says that the bowlers have to bowl slightly back of a length on this pitch. Adds that there is a bit of grass on this wicket. States that there are some cracks on it as well but the pitch is a good one for batting.

  • 6.5 Full and outside off, eased through the covers for a single.
  • 6.6 Landed outside off, driven beautifully but straight to the fielder at cover. 54/1
  • 7.1 FOUR! That is just too easy at the start of an over. A half tracker, right in the middle of the pitch, Bhatia pulls it over mid-wicket and finds the fence.
  • 7.2 Outside off, played straight to point.
  • 7.3 That is a good follow-up delivery, cramping the batter for room, following Bhatia down the leg side as she backs away, Taniya can only push it towards cover. She is out of the crease and the fielder returns a sharp throw to the keeper. Rachel Priest collects and whips the bails off and appeals - not once, not twice but thrice. She believes that Bhatia plonked her bat it. But the square leg umpire shakes his head. No replays shown.
  • 7.4 A short ball, around off, pulled to deep mid-wicket for a single.
  • 7.5 On middle, pushed towards mid on.
  • 7.6 DROPPED! Well, well, well. New Zealand were just gaining some momentum. Has Green led the proposed rub of the green go away from her team? Full and around off, Verma comes down the track and looks to go downtown. However, she mistimes it straight to Maddy Green at long on. Green comes running in slightly, gets to the ball but puts it down. A single taken. 60/1

  • 8.6 Around off, Verma looks to punch but mistimes it back to the bowler. 68/1
  • Rosemary Mair returns. 1-0-10-0 so far.
  • 9.1 OUT! CAUGHT! That is straight to the fielder. India will be the happier side though. Full and outside off, Bhatia leans and drives it uppishly. She cannot find the gap and finds the fielder instead. Amelia Kerr joins hands with Rosemary Mair in breaking the partnership.
  • Jemimah Rodrigues walks in next.
  • 9.2 Full and around off, watchfully defended.
  • 9.3 MISFIELD, FOUR! Not what you need when you have just taken a wicket. Full and outside off, Rodrigues drives it towards mid on. Suzie Bates gets across to her right to stop but the ball goes beneath her hands to the fence behind.
  • 9.4 Short and outside off, punched behind point for a well-run couple.
  • 9.5 Full and outside off, played through the covers for a single.
  • 9.6 DROPPED! That is straight in and out. Poor fielding display by the Kiwis so far. Short and outside off, Shafali plays a tired pull and it goes straight to Lea Tahuhu at short mid-wicket. She takes the catch but then while attempting to celebrate, loses control. 75/2
  • Leigh Kasperek into the attack now.

  • 10.6 Full and down the leg side, flicked away for one more. 80/2
  • 11.1 OUT! CAUGHT! Gone off the leading edge. New Zealand have been below average in the field and the moment this went up in the air, hearts would have been in their mouths. Full and down the leg side, would have been a wide had it been left alone but Jemimah just looks to work it down the leg side. She ends up being a bit early into the shot and gets a leading edge. The ball lobs in the air and Amelia Kerr takes another catch at backward point.
  • In walks the skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur.
  • 11.2 Oohhh... she is struggling with her fitness, Shafali. Hence, she is looking to go after every ball. Not that she plays defensive strokes very much. Jumps down the track and has a wild swing at the ball, only to miss.
  • 11.3 FOUR! A welcome boundary for India. Short and outside off, Verma cuts it over short third man and finds the fence.
  • 11.4 Landed outside off, Verma guides this towards third man but short third man dives to her right and makes a brilliant stop.
  • 11.5 A smart bouncer, following the batter down the leg side, SV is down the track, thinks about the pull but then bails out.
  • 11.6 SIX! Terrific shot! A length ball, around off, Shafali comes down the track and lofts it straight down the ground for a maximum! A wicket from the over but 10 runs from it as well. 90/3
  • Hayley Jensen is back on. 2-0-9-0 so far. In fact, mind change. Kasperek continues.
  • 12.1 WIDE. Full and down the leg side, Kaur misses her flick.
  • 12.1 Around off, watchfully defended.
  • 12.2 Comes down the track, but is cramped for room as the ball is on the pads. Placed straight to short mid-wicket.
  • 12.3 Full and down the leg side, flicked straight to short mid-wicket.
  • 12.4 Full and on middle, swept through mid-wicket for a single.
  • 12.5 Outside off, driven through mid off for another run.
  • 12.6 OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Tame, tame dismissal. Full and outside off, Kaur comes forward, looks to drive straight but ends up chipping a tame return catch back to the bowler. Kasperek does not drop Kaur. 3/25 in the last 24 balls. 93/4
  • Deepti Sharma walks in now.
  • Amelia Kerr comes on now. 2-0-13-0 so far.
  • 13.1 A short ball, pulled down to long on for a single.
  • 13.2 Around middle, worked straight to short mid-wicket.
  • 13.3 Works this down the leg side for a run.
  • 13.4 Is that a catch? The keeper is convinced. But not the bowler. No review taken. A short ball, outside off, Verma gets across, looks to pull but misses. The keeper collects and then appeals but the umpire shakes his head. There is a discussion between keeper and bowler but no review taken.
  • 13.5 OUT! CAUGHT! Verma eventually holes out. She has been trying her best to get out in the last few deliveries and finally, finds the fielder. Full and outside off, Shafali backs away and lofts it towards wide long off. Easy catch for the fielder, Hayley Jensen.

  • Dead ball. Kasperek releases the ball but Deepti backs away at the last moment.
  • 14.2 DROPPED! Maddy Green puts down another chance. Full and around middle, Deepti gets down and slog sweeps it towards deep mid-wicket. Maddy Green comes running in and takes the catch but wait, spills it. A run taken.
  • 14.3 Full on middle, pushed through to long on for another single.
  • 14.4 The batsman works it down the leg side. One run added to the total.
  • 14.5 A short ball, stays low, pulled to deep mid-wicket for a run. That was nicely played.
  • 14.6 The batter plays a sweep shot. 100/5
  • 15.1 Short and outside off, cut straight to point.
  • 15.2 FOUR! That is a fine shot. Landed outside off, Krisnamurthy leans and punches this between cover and point!
  • Review for LBW! New Zealand reckon that Krishnamurthy is caught plumb in front. There is a three-way discussion and eventually, the review is taken. Good decision. To take the review. Because Ball Tracker shows this to be plumb!
  • 15.3 OUT! LBW! Decision reversed! Perhaps the umpire thought there was glove involved, because it seemed there was a deflection. Full and straight, Krishnamurthy looked to sweep but missed and was hit on the pads. Kerr appealed but the umpire was firm in shaking his head. The keeper, bowler and another fielder had a conversation and eventually took the review. Ultra Edge confirmed there was no bat or glove while the Ball Tracker returned three reds. Hitting the middle stump.
  • Shikha Pandey walks in at number 6, replacing Veda.

  • 16.1 Outside off, punched off the back foot for a single.
  • 16.2 Full and outside off, worked through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 16.3 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 16.4 Comes down the track and works it through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 16.5 The batter dances down the track. They manage to come back for the second.

  • Sophie Devine is back on. 1-0-9-0 so far.
  • 17.1 OUT! CAUGHT! Terrific shot but straight to the fielder. Full and around middle, Deepti gets down and plays the slog. The connection is good but it is straight to deep mid-wicket. Hayley Jensen takes a sitter.

  • 17.3 A short ball, pulled towards fine leg for a single.

  • 18.1 Outside off, punched through the covers for a single.
  • 18.2 Full and down the leg side, worked through square leg for a couple.
  • Direct hit! Is that a wicket? Referred upstairs... Nope. The batter is well in.
  • 18.3 Safe as a house. Radha pushes this towards cover and takes off for a quick single. There is a direct hit at the bowler's end and it is referred upstairs. Nothing harmful for India.
  • 18.4 Full and down the leg side, swept through mid-wicket for a couple.
  • 18.5 Pushes this down to long off for a run.
  • 18.6 MISSED STUMPING! Full and outside off, Radha comes down the track and swings hard but misses. Rachel Priest behind the stumps fumbles as well and misses an easy stumping. 121/7
  • Hayley Jensen to bowl the final over. 2-0-9-0 so far.
  • 19.1 Outside off, pushed through point for a single.
  • 19.2 Works this through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 19.3 Gets across her stumps, looks to flick but misses and is hit on the pads. The ball deflects towards square leg and a leg bye is taken.
  • 19.4 Full and outside off, Yadav looks to go over mid off and clears the fielder. Two runs taken.
  • 19.5 SIX! This one goes all the way! Full and outside off, Radha leans and lofts it brilliantly over long off!
  • 19.6 OUT! RUN OUT! Radha Yadav is run out but it does not matter. She has played a nice cameo. Full and outside off, Radha gets across and looks to paddle. Gets a top edge which just eludes short fine leg. The fielder, Leigh Kasperek, gets to the ball and then picks it up. By that time, Pandey is already at the bowler's end for the second. But Radha is busy plonking her bat at that end. She has to run for the second and is comfortably short. INDIA END ON 133/8!
  • Leigh Kasperek is down for a chat with Anjum Chopra. She is happy with the way New Zealand pulled things back. Is happy with the target to chase. On being asked about any specific restrictions against India, Kasperek says that there was no such plan and they just tried to play as the game progressed. On the plan to bowl short to Shafali and full to Taniya, Kasperek says that Verma is more of a front foot player and the latter a back foot one, hence the bowling lengths. On her personally looking to open the batting, Leigh smiles and says that she just looks to contribute with the bat whenever an opportunity arises.
  • Well, another score in the range of 130-150 for India. The fact that they collapsed again, after a good start, shows how heavily they rely on the top order. It was a Shafali Verma show today, tonking the bowlers to all parts in the Powerplay. During her 51-run stand for the second wicket with Taniya Bhatia, it did seem like 150 was on. But Bhatia's wicket triggered a collapse and India lost their way.
  • Good comeback by New Zealand. In fact, take aside Shafali Verma's knock and it will show that they have really bowled well. Amelia Kerr was the one who put the brakes and she, along with Leigh Kasperek, stifled the Indians. Their combined figures were 8-0-40-3.
  • 134 to win for New Zealand. This pitch looks to be on the slower side and it is not going to be easy for any new batter to score runs. India have shown that they can defend totals over 130 in this tournament and will rely on their spinners again to go through to the semis today itself. New Zealand, on the other hand, will aim to bat sensibly and target the bowlers who are loose. Stay tuned for the run chase.

  • 8.1 OUT! CAUGHT! Taken off a full toss! Once again, the Indian spinners are having their say. Floated outside off, Devine comes down the track and takes it on the full. That is a high full toss to boot. 9 times out of 10, that would have gone out of the park. But does not happen today. Devine mistimes this very badly and the ball lobs off the top edge. • 10.3 Full and outside off, Katey comes down the track and pushes it towards short third man.
  • 10.4 Short and outside off, cut towards point again.
  • 10.5 Comes down the track, is beaten in flight, is nowhere near the pitch of the ball and just jabs it to the leg side. It is just beside the pitch and the batters take a quick run.
  • 10.6 FOUR! Second boundary of the over. 79 needed from 54 now. Short and outside leg, Green rocks back, swivels and pulls it through fine leg. The stand is worth 21 from 17 balls. 55/3
  • 11.1 In the air... but safe. Full and around off, Martin looks to play the paddle but gets it off something, over the keeper. The batters take a single, leg bye signalled.
  • 11.2 Full and outside off, pushed straight to short extra cover.
  • Bob Carter, the New Zealand batting coach, is down for an interview with Nasser Hussain. Carter says that they will take it ball by ball and keep the scorecard ticking over. Says that they made a couple of great stops in the field but also dropped some catches which should have been taken, otherwise the ground fielding was excellent. On being asked whether it would be nice if they win without Devine contributing, the coach chuckles and then agrees.
  • 11.3 TOP EDGE, SAFE! Shikha Pandey loses it in the sun. Full and outside off, Green looks to play the slog sweep but gets a top edge. The ball lobs in the air towards square leg but Pandey running across from short mid-wicket loses it in the sun and backs off. Strange. She has the glasses on, but on the cap. Why not wear them over the eyes? A single taken.

  • 13.3 Full and straight, whipped through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 13.4 On middle and off, hit down to long on for one more.
  • 13.5 Full and outside off, driven down powerfully but long on is pretty straight. Just a single.
  • 13.6 INSIDE EDGE, MISSES THE STUMPS! And an overthrow is conceded as well. Poor backup by Deepti Sharma. Full and outside off, Martin gets across, initially looking to paddle but then, seeing the line wide outside off, she looks to run it down to third man. All she manages is a thick inside edge which misses the stumps and goes to short fine leg. The fielder comes running in, has a shy at the striker's end but misses. Deepti Sharma lazily jogs to her right from short extra cover and makes no attempt to stop the ball. Allows it to go through to long off and the batters return for the second. 77/3
  • Rajeshwari Gayakwad returns. 3-0-20-0 so far.
  • 14.1 Full and outside off, Green looks to sweep but misses.
  • 14.2 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Excellent take from Taniya Bhatia. Full and outside off, Green comes down the track, looks to go inside out but misses. The keeper collects and whips the bails off. It appears that it is a stumping but then we are informed that it is a catch. Snickometer confirms. The good-looking 43-run stand has been broken. New Zealand need 57 from 34 balls.
  • Who is in next? Amelia Kerr to face the music.

  • 14.5 Short and outside off, cut powerfully but straight to point.

  • Deepti Sharma is back on. 2-0-14-1 so far.
  • 15.1 Full and outside off, Martin mistimes her slog towards deep square leg for a single. Moves to 20 from 23 balls.

  • 15.3 FOUR! Gets it through this time! Full and outside off, Kerr reaches out and drives it between cover and point and finds the gap.
  • 15.4 Short and outside off, hit straight to Poonam Yadav at short third man. The initial call is NO but Martin calls Kerr through for a quick single. Poonam is very slow to release the ball and the run is completed with ease. 49 needed from 26 balls.
  • 15.5 Sees the batter come down the track and fires it wide outside off. Martin can only drive it back to the bowler.
  • 15.6 Comes down the track and works it through mid-wicket for a run. 86/4

  • 16.1 Full and outside off, Martin looks to drive but gets a thick inside edge onto her pads.
  • 16.2 FOUR! THUNDEROUS! Full and outside off, Martin swings this over mid-wicket and splits the fielders in the deep!
  • 16.3 OUT! CAUGHT IN THE DEEP! The last recognized batter departs as well and India have one-and-a-half feet into the semi-finals. Short and outside off, Martin comes down the track and swings it powerfully over mid-wicket. The connection sounds good but when the ball completes the trajectory, Jemimah Rodrigues is there to take the sitter! Martin goes for a fighting 25 from 28 balls. New Zealand fighting a losing cause - 44 more needed from 21 balls.
  • Hayley Jensen comes in for the final rites.
  • 16.4 Short and outside off, cut through point where Rajeshwari Gayakwad dives to her left and parries it to short third man. Just a single.

  • 17.4 Full and outside off, Jensen gets to the pitch of the ball and lofts it over covers. Sweeper gets across to her left and dives, keeping the ball in play. Three runs taken.
  • 17.5 Full and around middle, Kerr looks to slog but gets a thick inside edge onto her pads. Thinks of a run but is sent back.
  • 17.6 TWO RUN OUTS MISSED ON THE SAME BALL! Full and outside off, Kerr drives this straight back to the bowler. Jensen is backing up too far and is gone for all money. But Deepti, for all her time-taking and under-arming, misses the stumps at the bowler's end. They go for the single now and mid on quickly gets to the ball. Because Jensen tried to get back, she is a bit late in taking off. The throw comes in to the keeper's end but it hits Jensen who comes in the way. 100/5
  • Poonam Yadav to bowl out. 3-0-14-1 so far.
  • 18.1 FOUR! THWACK! Short and outside off, extremely slow in pace, Kerr goes back, waits, waits, waits and pulls it over short fine leg!
  • 18.2 Full and outside off, lofted wide of long off. Good running stop by Deepti Sharma to her left. Two runs taken.
  • 18.3 FOUR! For the second time in the over! Again, Kerr waits for the ball to arrive after getting across. Picks the length and heaves it over short fine leg!
  • 18.4 Once again, Kerr attempts the paddle-pull by getting well outside off but this time the length is pretty full. Amelia misses.
  • 18.5 FOUR! Third boundary of the over! Lobbed up outside off, Kerr comes down the track, takes it on the full and drives it through the covers.
  • 18.6 FOUR! 18 from the over! Full and outside off, Kerr reaches out and lofts it over cover for another boundary! A rare expensive over from Poonam Yadav - 4-0-32-1 today. 118/5
  • Shikha Pandey to bowl the final over. 3-0-10-1 so far. 15 to defend.
  • 19.1 FOUR! Good start to the over! 12 needed from 5. A length ball, outside off, Jensen throws her bat at it and gets a thick inside edge. The ball misses the stumps and goes past short fine leg!

  • 19.3 Misses out on a full toss, swinging it straight to mid on for a single. 10 needed from 3.
  • 19.4 Full and on middle, pushed through mid on for just one. 9 needed from 2.
  • 19.5 FOUR! 5 needed from the final ball! These are some exhibition of nerves. Full and outside off, Kerr brings out the reverse paddle and scoops it over short third man! Are we in for a Super Over? A boundary will do it!
  • 19.6 OUT! Confusion in the end but INDIA WIN AND ARE THROUGH TO THE SEMIS! Pandey bowls this full and outside off, Amelia gets across, looks to swing but misses and is hit on the pads. The ball deflects to the off side and all they can manage is just a leg bye. Shikha quickly gets to the ball and fires a throw at the keeper's end. Hits and it is referred upstairs. Replays show that Jensen was looking for the second while Kerr was not interested at all. VICTORY BY 3 RUNS!
  • Kudos to New Zealand for fighting hard and taking this close but they could have won if, had the fielding been better or had the batting against spinners got going. As has been the case throughout the tournament, India crossed 130 and then defended it. They bowled better and fielded exceedingly well.
  • The White Ferns would be disappointed, not because of the loss but the mannerism of the defeat. They bounced back superbly after a strong second-wicket stand by India but then, kept dropping catches. Adapting to slow, turning pitches has been a challenge for many teams and the opponents are increasingly finding it difficult to play the Indian spinners. Four spinners played in this game and their combined figures were 16-0-106-4. Shikha Pandey, the lone seamer, did well with figures of 4-0-21-1. Please stay tuned for the presentation...
  • Shafali Verma, the Player of the Match, says that she is very happy with her performance and she wants to keep doing that for the team. Adds that they were not giving any loose balls and she was just looking to take singles and doubles. Credits her father and the boys in her academy where she trained for her good performances.
  • Sophie Devine, the New Zealand skipper, says that she thought that the bowlers did a terrific job and to restrict India to 133 was an amazing effort. Adds that the pitch looked a bit pacy but they failed to adapt. Praises Hayley Jensen for her performance. States that they got pretty close today but failed at the last moment. Goes onto say that they would take the positives from this game.
  • Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian skipper, says that it is a great feeling and they have learnt a lot from the last three games. On batting better in overs 7 to 15, Kaur says that they got a good start but they could not carry the momentum forward. Stresses that they kept on repeating the mistakes in all the games. On the bowling, the Indian skipper says that they bowled well but sometimes they struggled to hit the right lines and lengths. On Shafali Varma, Kaur hopes that she continues performing well as her runs at the start is really important for them.
  • Right. That ends another thrilling game. India earn their third win and romp into the semis. Who will be the next team? New Zealand? Australia? Or someone else? It is a tough passage. The second game of the day is between Australia and Bangladesh which will begin at 7 pm local (0800 GMT). Do join us for that game.
