  • Right then! 649 is India's total. Windies need to make at least 450 or play out 60-70 overs to make India bat again. Case 2 could be a possibility but even that seems like a mountain to climb. Join us back shortly...
  • Hard work for the bowlers. It is an understatement. Devendra Bishoo picked up 4 wickets but at the cost of 217 runs. Chase got to his century as well while Keemo Paul's injury hurt Windies badly. They were looking down and out on Thursday itself and the situation has worsened a lot.
  • If Day 1 did not have enough massacre, Rishabh Pant came out this morning and started hitting from the word go. But he agonizingly fell short of his ton while his captain got his. Then, when everyone felt that Jadeja was wasting time in the middle, he came out with a century of his own, his maiden in Tests. Awww... feather beds... these pitches.
  • The game started with Shannon Gabriel dismissing Rahul on a duck but then, it was all India. Shaw and Pujara counter-attacked with a double century stand with the latter missing out on a ton. The 18-year old got to his though. Then, Kohli and Rahane piled on more misery.
  • Okay then. India do not get bowled out. On a flat batting track in Rajkot, they have had 3 centurions, a 90, an 80, a 40, 2 double digits, 2 single digits and a duck. A paradise. This is their 6th highest total at home and second best, batting first in their own backyard.
  • 149.5 NOW INDIA DECLARE! Short and outside off, Shami punches it towards sweeper cover and crosses over. Kohli decides that enough is enough and calls his men back. TEA HAS BEEN TAKEN AS WELL.
  • Ha ha ha! Virat Kohli is smiling. He actually wants to signal about the declaration but Jadeja is not seeing him at all! Kohli waits, watches Jaddu finish his celebration and then gets ready to signal. But like a proper Test batsman, 'Sir' puts on his helmet, puts on his gloves and then gets ready to see what happens on the next ball! He is not even looking at his captain! Kohli is sheepish now and starts to laugh.
  • 149.4 THERE IT IS! MAIDEN TEST TON! Finally he gets to triple figures after threatening to do so quite a few times in the recent past. Full and outside off, Jadeja pushes it towards mid off and takes the all-important single. Takes his helmet off and leaps in the air. His first Test century, at his home ground. The Indian dressing room is on its feet.
  • 149.3 Around off, pushed towards cover.
  • 149.2 Full and straight, tightly defended.
  • 149.1 A wild delivery, short and way down the leg side, Jadeja misses out on the pull.
  • Will India declare if Jadeja gets to 100?
  • 148.6 Play and a miss to end the over but Shami survives. Tossed up outside off, the fast bowler stays back to defend but the ball spins and rips past the outside edge. 647/9
  • 148.5 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 148.4 On middle, MS flicks it towards short mid-wicket.
  • 148.3 Blocks. A real tempter, big loop from Bishoo, outside off, Shami comes forward and defends.
  • 148.2 Takes the single! Short and outside off, cut through point for a run. Moves to 99. What will Shami do now?
  • On 98...
  • 148.1 Lucky! Short and outside off, Shami looks to cut but gets a top edge which lobs over second slip! The ball rolls towards third man but then stops near the ropes. A single taken.
  • 147.6 Misses out. Short and outside off, Jadeja cuts it straight to backward point. Shami will now be on strike on the first ball of the next over. 645/9
  • 147.5 Another forward defense to stretch the innings...

  • 145.2 RJ goes for the sweep but fails to connect it.
  • 145.1 Flatter, a bit short, angled in, pulls it away to short fine.
  • 144.6 Driven towards the mid-on region. Jadeja retains strike. 633/9
  • 144.5 SIX! BOOM! This time the southpaw gets it right. He dances down the track again and swings through the line of the ball and with the spin. Timing on this is perfect as the ball sails over the long on boundary for a maximum.
  • 144.4 Goes for the slog sweep but gets an inner edge and the ball rolls into the mid-wicket region.
  • 144.3 Jadeja dances down the track but decides to defend it.
  • 144.2 A bit short and RJ rocks back to cut it through cover-point but does not take the single.
  • 144.1 Tossed up on off, driven to short mid-wicket.
  • Mohammed Shami is the last man in.
  • 143.6 OUT! The 9th one is down. No declaration still. Fractionally short outside off, Umesh looks to go downtown but the power is not that great. Simple catch for Lewis at long off. A wicket for the skipper then. 626/9
  • 143.5 Dropped! Jadeja goes for a big one, gets a leading edge towards deep square leg . Hetmyer positioned there dives to try and catch it but fumbles and drops it. The batsmen have taken a run.
  • 143.4 The ball is way wide on the leg side but the batsman still goes after it but misses.
  • 143.3 Yadav cuts this through point to get off strike.
  • 143.2 Very full and outside off, Yadav goes for it but misses. There is a half-hearted appeal for caught behind but the bat has brushed the ground. No harm done.
  • 143.1 Quicker and wide of off, Yadav shoulders arms.
  • GoaRocks - Yeahhh!!!! Double century for Bishoo! @GoaRocks - Yes. Toiled hard, hasn't he... Meanwhile, here comes Kraigg Brathwaite on again.
  • 142.6 The ball is way outside the off stump, easy leave for the batsman. 624/8

  • 140.6 Defended off the back foot by the batsman. 604/8
  • 140.5 SIX! BANG! Jadeja smokes this tossed up delivery around off over the head of the wide long on fielder. Good stuff this from India. Moving ahead quickly now is the home team.

  • 138.3 Yadav defends this full length delivery into covers and gets a run.
  • 138.2 The short of length delivery has been cut away through square on the off side. One run added to the total.
  • 138.1 SIX! Kaboom! RJ charges down the track and with a full swing of the bat gets it over the wide long on fence for a superb maximum. Jadeja seems to have changes gears and this will be interesting now.

  • 136.6 A bit shorter of full length, flicked into the square leg region by Umesh. 572/8
  • Another Yadav in. Umesh it is.
  • 136.5 OUT! Bishoo gets another. His fourth, to be precise. Lands this outside off and gets it to spin into Kuldeep sharply. Yadav gets a long way across and looks to defend it off the back foot but misses it and gets rapped right in front of the off stump. An appeal from Bishoo and the umpire raises his finger. Kuldeep looks a bit surprised, perhaps thinking it will go down leg. However, Hawk Eye confirms it will hit the sticks.

  • 133.4 A bit shorter this and outside off, Jadeja cuts this past point and some good running gets him a brace.

Ahh.... replays show an inside edge. Just last week my wife was telling me to check the power in my eyes. Should have listened to her and paid a visit. Age is catching up...

  • 129.2 FOUR! Streakky! Paul is unlucky here as he lands this good length delivery just outside off, Jadeka looks to push at it away from his body, gets an outside edge which flies past the diving keeper for a boundary. Cannot call it a drop catch, it was a bit too wide for Dowrich to pouch it.

As a result, an outside edge is induced and Dowrich behind takes a good catch. Ashwin does not go and that prompts the Windies to appeal even vociferously. Even Ian Gould relieves them off their misery. Is the declaration coming soon now?

  • 123.5 Banged in short outside off, Ash drops his hands down to let it go behind.
  • Ravichandran Ashwin is out to bat.
  • 123.4 OUT! The skipper departs. Against the run of play, pretty much like his other teammates. A length ball outside off, Kohli looks to work it through the off side but the ball sticks in the pitch. Similar to how Shaw got out. As a result, an edge is induced which lobs towards mid on. Simple catch for Devendra Bishoo over there. The bat turned in Kohli's hands as he looked to play that shot. End of another wonderful innings but I daresay, he was hardly noticed. The thunder was stolen by Rishabh Pant. Plenty of Windies players get across to congratulate the Indian captain, perhaps hoping that India will declare. But...

  • 121.6 This is a bit confusing. We thought India would look to get some quick runs post Lunch but Jaddu seems to have some other plans. He leaves this outside off ball alone. 519/5
  • 121.5 Wide of off again, Jadeja shoulders arms.
  • 121.4 The ball is too wide on the off side for the batsman to make any contact.

  • 119.4 Fuller but still outside off. Jadeja leaves it alone.
  • 119.3 The batsman lets the ball go outside his off stump.
  • 119.2 Dishes this on his pads, Kohli flicks it through square leg to get off strike.
  • 119.1 FOUR! Simply magnificient! First ball after Lunch to Kohli and he shows his class straigh away. Drives a good length ball on off straight down the ground between the bowler and mid off for a lovely boundary. What a start for the Indian skipper! Needs to score some quick runs here.

  • ... DAY 2, SESSION 2 ...
  • What next now? When will India declare? An hour post the break? Or after Tea? Kohli and Jadeja might just look to press the accelerator post Lunch. Actually, given the way the Windies are bowling, the Indians need not do anything fancy. Runs are coming quite easily. Join us back at 1210 local (0640 GMT) for the second session.
  • Well, feeling pity for the Windies bowlers. After a wicket in the very first over, they have simply struggled to put any pressure on the batsmen. This morning just seemed like the players have come because they have been rostered on a fielding shift and simply went through the motions. Kohli and Pant took full toll of that and made runs at will. At one point of time, it seemed like the wicket-keeper would go past his skipper but eventually, the captain got to his ton, with Pant narrowly missing out. The dominance of Pant is clearly seen in that 133-run stand with Kohli, where he scored 92.
  • 142 runs, 29 overs, 1 wicket. Another passage of play dominated by the hosts. Pant has been the only loss, that too, perhaps due to a rush of blood. Many players love to get to milestones with a biggie and he seemed to get consumed by that.
  • 117.6 Played through mid-wicket by the Indian captain. THAT'S LUNCH ON DAY 2. 506/5
  • 117.5 A very full ball on off is driven through mid on for a single.
  • 117.4 Brathwaite fires this one quicker but on the pads of the southpaw, Jadeja tucks this fine into the leg side to get a brace.
  • 117.3 Full on off, Jaddu comes forward to block it out.
  • 117.2 Tossed up on off, pushes into covers.
  • 117.1 Tossed up ball is eased through mid on for a single.
  • 116.6 Driven through mid off by the batsman. They pick up a single. 502/5
  • 116.5 The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball through covers. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 116.4 Full and on middle, pushed towards mid on for another single. 500 up for India. In a very strong position is the home team.
  • 116.3 Full and outside off, pushed through mid off for one.
  • 116.2 Around middle, Virat tucks it towards square leg, pushes hard for the second but Jadeja rightly sends him back. The fielder came in quickly.
  • 116.1 Full on middle, played towards short mid-wicket.
  • 115.6 A shorter length ball is punched through deep point region and the batsmen have run well to get a brace. 497/5

Do not gift your wicket away.
  • 100.1 EDGED, FOUR! Streaky from Pant. Not a bad line, not a bad length, from Keemo Paul. Full and outside off, a touch wide, Pant goes for the drive but there is minimal footwork. Gets an outside edge which goes past the man at gully to the third man fence.

  • Hello and welcome all to our coverage of Day 2 of this first Test between India and West Indies being played at Rajkot. After a magnificent century on debut by young Shaw, India find themselves in a dominating situation right from Day 1. The current pair of skipper Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant will look to put up a big first innings total and put the Windies bowlers under pressure. West Indies, on the other hand, will be keen on breaking this partnership and enter the Indian tail at the earliest. How can the visitors stop the Indian skipper and the flamboyant keeper-batsman from taking the match away from them? Yesterday we did not see a lot of assistance for the bowlers. Will the second new ball do the trick for the tourists? We are surely in for an exciting day of Test cricket. Stay tuned...
  • ... Day 2, Session 1 ...
  • We're done with today's action. Do join us on Friday for Day 2 which promises to be run-filled as the pitch will be at its best for batting. The Windies will need to be more disciplined in their approach if they want to stay in the hunt. Tune in at 0930 local (0400 GMT) for all the action. Cheers!
  • For India, the early loss of KL Rahul was the only moment when they would have felt any pressure. After that, the double century partnership between Shaw and Pujara forced Windies into submission and then the pair of Rahane and Kohli further inflicted the damage with a century stand. Pujara and Rahane would be gutted though for missing out on a golden opportunity to get big runs under their belts. Anyway, Virat Kohli is still out there, unbeaten on 72, and will be eyeing a daddy hundred. We can expect fireworks with Rishabh Pant around and there is still enough batting left for the home team to push their total in excess of 500.
  • A day to forget for Windies. It was mentally and physically tiring for them. Apart from the first five overs or so, their bowlers didn't get much assistance from the deck and looked listless on the whole. Not only did they fail to pick wickets, they conceded runs at a brisk rate too. The ploy to keep fielders in the deep allowed the batsmen time to rotate the strike with ease which didn't let any pressure build. Shannon Gabriel was decent in his first couple of spells but apart from him, the others have struggle written all over their spells. Devendra Bishoo was a major disappointment, if one has to pinpoint a single bowler.
  • Prithvi Shaw, the 18-year old, says that he is feeling really good now, after the century but before that, he was pretty nervous, he admits. Stresses that he has got lots of runs in domestic cricket but was trying to remind himself to forget all that. Agrees that he did think that it was his first Test innings and he had doubts about how to play but then as he got into the groove of things, he decided to play according to the merit of the delivery. On his century celebration, Shaw says that he was remembering his father as the latter has sacrificed a lot for the youngster's career. On his maturity in cricket, Prithvi says that he has played a lot of cricket right from the age of schooling and has gained a lot of experience from all those. On his disappointment after losing his wicket, Shaw says that he is definitely not happy with his score on this track as it is a good wicket to bat on. Adding further, he says that it was the last over before Tea and he could have avoided that shot, though he later admits that the stickiness on that delivery after bouncing did him in.
  • The day belonged to a young 18-year boy - Prithvi Shaw. There was so much build up leading to his debut and the young man handled all the pressure with ease. He played some extraordinary shots, particularly off his back foot, and showed why he is touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket. It was a truly entertaining knock where many found a mixture of Sehwag and Tendulkar in his style of batting. Plenty of records got demolished in his very first Test innings and the most notable one was him becoming the second youngest Indian to score a hundred. A star is born. Truly. Let's see what he has to say as Sanjay Manjrekar is down with him for an interview.
  • Another session dominated by India as they end the first day of this Test match in the driver's seat. The evening session saw 38 overs bowled where India lost the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane but also scored 132 runs in it. The current Indian batting pair is leaving the ground, looking satisfied with their progress.

  • 88.4 A length delivery on middle, Pant flicks it with great timing past the diving mid-wicket fielder for a couple of runs.
  • 88.3 SIX! Not in control but it has gone all the way! Gabriel digs in a short delivery, well-targeted at the batsman, doesn't matter to Pant if the close of play is just around the corner. He goes on with his pull shot, doesn't get it away off the meat of his blade but it still flies over fine leg for a biggie. First of the innings and it has come in the last over of the day.
  • 88.2 Back of a length delivery on off, Kohli drops it with soft hands to point and scampers across to the other end.

  • 86.4 Big movement there. But it bothers the keeper more than the batsman. Gabriel hurls it on a good length around off, Kohli makes an easy leave and after going past him, the ball moves in massively. It puts Dowrich's agility to full test who passes it with flying colours. Nice athleticism to dive across to his left to collect the ball.
  • 86.3 Bowls it on a good length and wide outside off, an easy leave for Virat.
  • 86.2 Width on offer outside off, Kohli dabs it fine down to third man and takes a couple of runs.

  • 85.3 Loopy and on off, Pant defends it off his front foot.
  • 85.2 Full and on middle, knocked down towards mid on for a run.
  • 85.1 Four byes! As if the Indian batsmen aren't scoring enough themselves that Windies are helping them with gifts like these. Chases fails to grip the new ball and fires it way down the leg side. Kohli lets it be and Dowrich has no chance of stopping it. A boundary at fine leg.
  • Some issue with the second new ball already. A bit of a scratch mark on the new cherry. Looks like someone has taken a bite of the apple. Anyway, they have replaced it. Roston Chase to continue from this end...

  • 84.1 Shortish and outside off, Kohli eases it down to third man and takes a single.

  • Birthday boy, Rishabh Pant walks in next. He has turned 21 today. Will like to make it a memorable year for himself, starting from today.
  • 83.3 OUT! There is some spike on the Snicko and Rahane has to walk back, another start wasted by him. Windies are delighted. They have got a wicket against the run of play. The move to not opt for the second new ball and continue with the old one has provided them a breakthrough. Chase is the one to break this 105-run stand. Not a delivery to brag about though. It's short and wide outside off, begging to be dispatched. Rahane obliges as he goes deep inside the crease with a square cut. But he fails to middle his shot and Dowrich immediately jumps in joy after collecting the ball. They appeal and the finger goes up. Rahane has a chat with his skipper who seldom says no to a DRS-taking opportunity. The replays roll in and Snicko puts everything to rest. Waste of a review, none left for India now. Now then, something that will worry Rahane. Three of his last four dismissals have come against the spinners. A chink in his armour?
  • Huge shout for a caught behind. The finger has gone up. Ajinkya Rahane walks up to his skipper, has a chat with him and then signals for the DRS. Wonder why? He must be knowing whether he has edged it or not. Let's find out.
  • 83.2 Quicker one, bowled in the flatter trajectory around middle, Rahane defends it off his front foot.
  • 83.1 Flighted and around leg, Kohli flicks it past mid-wicket and crosses for a run.

  • 80.3 Works it with the spin to deep mid-wicket for a run.
  • 80.2 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 80.1 FOUR! Easy pickings! Brathwaite fires it full and wide down the leg side, Kohli deflects it fine down the leg side and finds the rope.
  • Second new ball is available now. Not taken by Windies. Strange.
  • 79.6 Miscommunication but no harm done! A very full ball on off, Rahane drives it firmly to mid off and sets off for a run. Kohli denies it as it has gone straight to the fielder and Rahane has to rush back. 325/3
  • 79.5 Flighted and full on off, Rahane is on the front foot in defense.
  • 79.4 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 79.3 Flatter and on off, defended off the back foot.
  • 79.2 FOUR! On the shorter side around off, Rahane immediately rocks back and cuts it through covers for a cracking boundary. Have lost count of the number of short ball lollies served to the Indian batsmen.
  • 79.1 Fullish and on off, flicked across the line but straight to short mid-wicket.
  • 78.6 A slider around middle, skidding away after landing, Rahane gets back and helps it in front of square leg for one. 321/3

  • 77.3 Works it with the spin on the leg side but finds the fielder.

  • 77.1 Full flighted on off, flicked across the line but straight to short mid-wicket.
  • Drinks on the field, again. The Windies' search for a breakthrough continues. To be honest, their field setup is not for wicket-taking anyway. Quite defensive. The bowlers are lacking plans. What to say about India? They are cruising and nothing seems to stop them at the moment. 13 overs left in the day's play. Let's hope we get all of them bowled.
  • 76.6 Flatter and shorter on off, stroked off the back foot to covers. 314/3
  • 76.5 Driven through the covers by the batsman. They pick up a single.
  • 76.4 Goes on the back foot and punches it to short mid-wicket.
  • 76.3 Fifty for India's run-machine! Kohli is back in the team and he continues with his usual business. Run scoring has become a piece of cake for this batsman. Bishoo helps him there with a short delivery outside off, Virat rocks back and cuts it through point. The fielder chases it and just about manages to pull it back. The onfield umpire gets it checked upstairs and it's a clean stop. Strangely, the fielder himself was of the opinion that it was a boundary. Still the officials wanted to be extra sure. Hmm... Anyway, two runs taken and that's enough to bring Kohli's 20th Test fifty. A bit on the slower side, one can say, but maybe he wants to spend time in the middle after having a good rest.
  • A man drops back in the deep on the leg side.

  • 73.3 Shortish and outside off, punched from the crease to point.
  • 73.2 Helps it off his pads to square leg for a run.

  • 72.5 Bowls this one with a quicker arm action, a leg spinner around off, on the shorter side, Rahane punches it off his back foot to covers.
  • 72.4 A bit short and around off, spinning away, Kohli hangs back and punches it down the ground. He calls for a run and as soon as Lewis fails to cut it off with a dive from mid on, they pick up a couple more. 300 up for India!
  • 72.3 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 72.2 Flighted and full on off, defended off the front foot.

  • While India continue to do well here, there is more good news filtering in, just across the border. The Indian colts have just progressed to the final of the Under-19 Asia Cup, beating Bangladesh by 2 runs. They have successfully defended a total of 172. • 71.1 Short and on middle, whipped off the back foot through mid-wicket for a couple.
  • 70.6 Soft edge, not carrying to Shai Hope. Bishoo gets his length right for once in this over and lands it full on middle. Rahane is forward in defense but it spins away to take the outside edge. Since it's played with a soft bottom hand, the edge doesn't carry to first slip. 294/3
  • 70.5 Yet another shorter delivery by Bishoo. Rahane is picking the length very early. Immediately camps back and cuts it through point. This time Ambris quickly gets across to his left in the deep and they take a couple.
  • 70.4 Floated full ball on middle, once again defended back by Rahane.
  • 70.3 Full and flighted on off, Rahane strides forward in defense.
  • 70.2 Shortish and on off, turning away, Rahane gets back and defends it to the off side.
  • 70.1 FOUR! A leg spinner on the shorter side, Rahane rocks back and whacks it through covers. The fielder in the deep sprints across to his right but fails to cut it off. Bishoo is not too happy with the effort put in by Ambris. Maybe, the bowler demanded a dive which didn't come.

  • 69.4 Steps down the track and eases it through mid on for a run.
  • 69.3 EDGED AND FOUR! Just wide of first slip. Chase lands it short and around off, Rahane goes back to cut but it's too close to his body. He still goes on with the shot and gets it away off the outside edge. It flies past the outstretched right hand of Shai Hope and screams away to the third man fence.
  • 69.2 Loopy off spinner on off, Rahane strides forward and blocks it safely.

  • 68.3 A tossed up delivery on middle, again a bit short in length, Kohli hangs back and hits it to deep mid-wicket for a couple.
  • 68.2 As soon as Bishoo drags his length short, Rahane goes deep inside the crease and cuts it through point for a run.
  • 68.1 Loopy and full on middle, a leg spinner, Rahane defends it off his front foot.
  • 67.6 Reaches out for a length ball outside off and pushes it towards the fielder standing at cover-point. 278/3

  • 66.6 Loopy and on off, defended off the front foot to the off side. 276/3

  • 65.4 Defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 65.4 A delightful stroke off the front foot by Kohli. His third drive in this over but once again he fails to find the gap. That cover fielder makes a diving stop to his right. Virat is outside his crease but sends his partner back seeing that effort. Called a no ball for overstepping.
  • 65.3 A length ball outside off, Kohli pushes it with soft hands to covers. Maybe, wanted to drop and run but nothing doing.

  • 64.2 Around off, watchfully defended.
  • 64.1 Full and outside off, driven straight to cover.
  • DRINKS BREAK. Things seemed to have quietened down since the dismissal of Shaw but India are firmly in the driver's seat. Both Kohli and Rahane look at ease and though neither are looking as commanding as the 18-year old, neither are struggling. Still 26 overs left in the day.

  • 61.3 Fullish and on off, it's clipped off the pads towards wide mid on. Straightaway a loud call for no by Rahane.

  • The evening session is about to begin and we welcome you again for all the action. The Windies have two new batsmen in the middle and would like to dismiss them early. But the names of those two are Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane, so easier said than done. Right? Sherman Lewis to kickoff proceedings. Two slips in place.
  • ... DAY 1, THIRD SESSION ...
  • 39 overs left in the day. If the Windies bowl all of these, I daresay my fingers are going to get quite some pain by the end. Realistically speaking, we are looking at the visitors falling 8-9 overs short. Brathwaite might have to opt for the spinners a bit more than usual to try and complete as many overs as possible. Join us back at 1430 local (0900 GMT).
  • The Windies have looked listless right after the first Drinks break. They have bowled an odd good ball here and there but simply have not been consistent. They will consider themselves lucky in taking two wickets. More pain might be there come the final session.
  • The Indians started this session from the word go, attacking the bowlers. Then, from nowhere, Windies got Pujara. Kohli then came in and closed the shutters a bit while the debutant continued his flow. But towards the end of the session, Bishoo managed to snap him. Looking at the score, the hosts will not be too concerned. 232/3 in just 2 sessions. With Kohli yet to get going. Pant to come. Jadeja to come. Anything apart from runs to come?
  • India's session without a doubt but just that wicket of Shaw in the dying moments takes some gloss off it. 99 runs came in 26 overs, for the loss of Pujara and Shaw. Both dismissals can be touted to loss in concentration, rather than excellent bowling.
  • 50.6 Full and around off, Rahane closes the bat-face tightly and defends. TEA ON DAY 1. 232/3
  • 50.5 Around off, watchfully blocked out.
  • 50.4 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 50.3 Full and outside off, watchfully defended.
  • Ajinkya Rahane walks in next, at number 5, replacing Shaw.
  • 50.2 OUT! The debutant's fine show ends. Just moments before Tea. A nothing delivery, a nothing shot. Short ball, around off, Shaw goes back and looks to work it to the leg side. However, the ball stops on the pitch and now Prithvi looks to push it through the line. But he ends up chipping it tamely to Bishoo who takes it but so pulverized are the Windies that no one is celebrating. The Indians are silent too. Stunned, in fact. The way Prithvi was batting, it seemed like he was timing everything beautifully. A soft dismissal. Now, the entire crowd stands up like one to applaud. Well played, kid.
  • 50.1 Misfield from Chase. The Windies are looking totally listless. A short ball, pulled through mid-wicket, straight to short mid-wicket. However, Roston Chase takes it easy and fumbles. A run allowed.
  • 49.6 Full and outside off, driven back to the bowler. 231/2
  • 49.5 Similar delivery, once again PS looks to defend on the front foot but this one does not turn. Goes past the outside edge.
  • 49.4 ALMOST GETS BOWLED! Ashwin and Jadeja will like that. Full and outside off, Prithvi comes forward to defend but the ball spins in a long way, takes the inside edge and just goes over the stumps, past the keeper, to fine leg! The batsmen take two.
  • 49.3 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 49.2 FOUR! Full and outside off, not that much room. But Shaw still goes after it. Ends up slicing his shot and gets it over cover. The ball almost stops near the ropes but in the end, touches it.
  • 49.1 Full on middle, pushed towards long on for a single.
  • Roston Chase is back on. 5-0-32-0 so far.
  • 48.6 A short ball, pulled with aplomb through mid-wicket for a brace. 224/2
  • 48.5 Full and around off, pushed past the bowler for a single towards mid off.
  • 48.4 The batsman defends it from within the crease.
  • 48.3 Tossed up outside off, Kohli lunges and blocks it towards mid-wicket.
  • 48.2 Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 48.1 Full and outside off, driven towards mid off for a single.
  • 47.6 Wild delivery. Wilder movement. Full and down the leg side, Prithvi is nowhere even close to making contact with that as he looks to flick. The ball goes further down the leg side and Shane Dowrich puts in a spectacular effort to dive to his left and get a glove to it. Parries it to fine leg and restricts the run scoring to a bye. 220/2
  • 47.5 A bouncer now, Shaw ducks.
  • 47.4 Outside off, on a length, punched straight to cover.
  • 47.3 Off the mark on the 10th ball. Half volley on middle, VK flicks it through mid-wicket and gets a single.
  • 47.2 Similar ball, once again Virat waits for the ball to come to him and then dabs it late towards point. Shaw wants the single but is sent back.
  • 47.1 A length ball outside off, Kohli watches that from the crease and then plays it towards point.
  • 46.6 Full and outside off, driven straight to cover. 218/2
  • 46.5 Short and outside off, cut straight to point.
  • 46.4 Full and around off, watchfully pushed towards cover.
  • 46.3 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 46.2 FOUR! Too close for comfort. Short and outside off, Shaw goes back and looks to cut but is too close to the ball. Ends up getting a thick outside edge which flies past first slip, to the third man fence.
  • 46.1 Full and outside off, driven straight to cover.
  • Devendra Bishoo is back on. 14-1-62-0 so far.
  • 45.6 This is now wider on the other side. Left alone. 214/2
  • 45.5 Down the leg side, Kohli misses out on another tickle.
  • 45.4 Around off, solidly defended.
  • 45.3 The batsman works it down the leg side. One run added to the total.
  • 45.2 Around off, watchfully defended.
  • 45.1 That is a beauty! Gabriel lands it on a length, around off, Shaw perhaps thought that it is a bouncer and wanted to duck. But then, he realized that the ball is not bouncing that much and hence he tries to work it to the leg side with a closed bat-face. In the end, got squared up and was lucky that the ball did not take the edge.
  • 44.6 Around off, defended tightly. 213/2
  • 44.5 Full and outside off, driven towards mid off.
  • 44.4 Short and outside off, PS rises on his toes and slaps it towards sweeper cover. There is a man in the deep who runs to his right from point but the ball lands short of him. A single taken.
  • 44.3 Landed outside off, dabbed towards gully.
  • 44.2 The batsman works it down the leg side.
  • 44.1 A bouncer on middle, Shaw ducks. An alert Sanjay Manjrekar on air observes that this is just the second time in this innings that Prithvi has ducked under it.
  • 43.6 Another appeal, this time for a catch. Down the leg side, Kohli looks to tuck but misses. Dowrich gets across to his left and then appeals after taking that, but no bat. 212/2
  • 43.5 Full and outside off, Kohli looks to defend but gets hit on the pads and then on the bat. Gabriel starts to appeal but the impact was outside off.
  • 43.4 Down the leg side, flicked behind square leg for a single.
  • 43.3 The batsman has flicked the ball off his pads. Good effort by the fielder to save a certain boundary. The batsmen have picked up a couple of runs.
  • 43.2 Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 43.1 Outside off, pushed towards cover.
  • Shannon Gabriel is back on. 9-1-33-1 so far.
  • Skipper Virat Kohli walks in at number 4, replacing Pujara.
  • 42.6 OUT! Caught behind! A rare glorious moment for the Windies as they prize out the 206-run stand. But a big moment for the debutant. Nothing special on the delivery, but just a lapse in concentration from the batsman. A length ball outside off, could have been left alone but Pujara has a flirt at it. Perhaps he wants to rotate strike and get to the other end. But then, he realizes that he can let the ball go. That indecision costs him and a thin outside edge is produced. The keeper pouches it and the Windies appeal but Pujara is not going! Now Ian Gould raises his finger and sends him on his way. The home lad will feel disappointed on missing out on a century. It was there for the taking. 209/2
  • 42.5 Down the leg side, left alone.
  • 42.4 Full on middle, pushed towards mid on.
  • 42.3 A bouncer on middle, Cheteshwar ducks.
  • 42.2 Around off, that one kicks off the surface, Pujara is surprised but manages to fend it down.
  • 42.1 Full and outside off, eased through the covers for a single. He wants the second but his partner is not the least bit interested.
  • 41.6 Full and outside off, driven past cover for one. 208/1
  • 41.5 Short and outside off, punched through the covers for a run.
  • 41.4 Punches this off the back foot for a single.
  • 41.3 FOUR! Short, wide, outside off, help yourself. And Shaw does exactly that. Rocks back and cuts it aerially behind point. THE 200-RUN STAND IS UP. Also, Shaw becomes the highest scorer in the first innings on Test debut for India.
  • 41.2 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 41.1 Full on middle, almost a yorker, dug out back to the bowler.
  • 40.6 Outside off, played straight to point. 201/1
  • 40.5 The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot. They pick up a single.
  • 40.4 Full on middle, pushed towards mid on.
  • 40.3 FOUR! Another delightful shot. Short and outside off, Shaw waits for the ball to come to him and guides it behind point for a boundary. It is not all about saw for Shaw.
  • 40.2 A short ball outside off, Shaw looks to cut but misses.
  • 40.1 Full and outside off, solidly blocked towards cover.
  • 39.6 Moral victory for the Windies. Another maiden has been bowled. Second in the last 6 overs. Full and outside off, CP lets it go. 196/1
  • 39.5 Another long hop, Cheteshwar looks to cut but gets a bottom edge back to the bowler.
  • 39.4 Outside off, left alone once again.
  • 39.3 Landed outside off, let through.
  • 39.2 On middle, punched down to mid on.
  • 39.1 Landed outside off, slow but appreciable turn, watchfully let through.
  • 38.6 Full and outside off, driven straight to cover. 196/1
  • 38.5 The batsman has played it to the point region.
  • 38.4 On middle and leg, flicked through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 38.3 Pushes this towards mid on.
  • 38.2 A short ball outside off, Pujara looks to cut but misses.
  • 38.1 Is that the first time Shaw has missed out on scoring? By the looks of it, yes. The first leg bye in this innings. On a length, around middle and leg, Prithvi misses his tuck. He too, seems shocked that he has missed out on a scoring opportunity. Stands dead still for a moment before he is called through for a single.
  • Sherman Lewis is back into the attack. 5-0-34-0 so far.
  • 37.6 Around off, watchfully blocked out. 194/1
  • 37.5 Comes down the track and wrists this towards mid on.
  • 37.4 The batsman has flicked the ball off his pads. They pick up a single.
  • 37.3 Full and around off, Shaw drives this straight back. Bishoo tries to stop it with his right hand but deflects it towards mid on. Pujara, in an attempt to get back, dives back in his crease. Seeing the mid on fielder a bit wide, Prithvi wants a single but poor old Pujjy is taking a lonnnng time to get back onto his feet.
  • 37.2 Outside off, played straight to point.
  • 37.1 Thrown up wide outside off, driven straight to cover.
  • 36.6 Full and outside off, pretty wide, left alone. 193/1
  • Oh dear. Not good. Not good at all. Keemo Paul is on his haunches and seems to be struggling with the heat. His teammates are surrounding him and the physio is out too. Doesn't look like cramps. More like dehydration. Very difficult to play in such conditions if one is not used to these. Meanwhile, the umpires take the opportunity to call for Drinks. India maintain their ascendancy post Lunch. 60 runs have come in just 11.5 overs. The good thing for India is that they have come from both ends, not from just Shaw's bat alone. He is on a different planet altogether and would like to see - when was the last time Pujara batted so quickly?
  • 36.5 FOUR! SUBLIME! Overpitched on middle, Pujara comes forward and drives it straight back to where it came from. Once again, Shaw is down at the non-striker's end. Not because he is struggling but because he was trying to get back into his crease.
  • 36.4 Full and outside off, driven straight to cover.
  • 36.3 Around off and outside, pushed towards the leg side.
  • Tough for the bowler. Paul comes running in but at the last moment, Pujara backs away. Probably something or someone must have distracted him behind the sightscreen.
  • 36.2 Full and around off, watchfully blocked out.
  • 36.1 A length ball outside off, Pujara looks to cut but the ball probably stays a touch low. Gets a bottom edge which goes to the keeper on the bounce.
  • 35.6 Goes back and works it through square leg for one. Moves to 80 now. 189/1
  • 35.5 Outside off, punched down to long on for a run.
  • 35.4 Don't think this bloke will allow any spinner to bowl a string of dots to him. Comes down the track and milks it through square leg for a single.
  • 35.3 Full and outside off, defended to the off side.
  • 35.2 Much better from Bishoo, keeps it fuller, Cheteshwar looks to defend but the ball goes off the inner half towards mid-wicket.
  • 35.1 FOUR! That will be the 28th in this innings. Not for the first time have we seen Bishoo drop it short to Pujara. The local lad goes back and cuts it behind point. The stand is worth 183 now.
  • 34.6 Similar ball, defended to the off side again. A rare maiden - JUST THE SECOND in this innings. 182/1
  • 34.5 Around off, defended from the crease.
  • 34.4 Full and just outside off, Prithvi is tight in defense.
  • 34.3 Overpitched outside off, Shaw drives it beautifully but straight to cover.
  • 34.2 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 34.1 Around off, defended from the crease.
  • 33.6 WAS THAT A DROP? The keeper does not look too happy with himself. Neither is Bishoo. Short and outside off, Pujara rocks back and looks to cut but misses, at least from the first look to the naked eye. Shane Dowrich looks to grab it and Bishoo gets excited but then the keeper fumbles. Hard to say any edge from that angle. 182/1
  • 33.5 The batsman has flicked the ball off his pads. They manage to come back for the second.
  • 33.4 Full and around off, watchfully blocked out.
  • 33.3 Comes down the track this time and defends.
  • 33.2 Full and around off, watchfully defended.
  • 33.1 FOUR! Gift. Short and outside off, turning away, Pujara goes back, waits for the ball to come to him and cuts it behind point. Lot of boundaries scored already. This is the 27th four in just the 34th over. Pujara himself has scored 12 of those in his 72.
  • 32.6 The batsman works it down the leg side. They pick up a single. 176/1
  • 32.5 Outside off, on a good length, holds its line, Pujara looks to defend, playing on the inside but gets beaten.
  • 32.4 Outside off, eased behind point for a single.
  • 32.3 Around off, Shaw stays back in his crease and blocks.
  • 32.2 TEST TON ON DEBUT! 15th Indian to do so and only the second by an opener. 7th youngest centurion in Tests. A proud moment for him and even more for his teammates. Take a bow, Prithvi Shaw. He is just an 18-year old. Who knows, how many more will he have by the time his Test career ends? Too early to think about that. His career has just taken off. Coming to the ball, Shaw drives it through the covers and scampers back for the second. Takes his helmet off and then soaks in the applause. Virat Kohli cannot hide his glee. This is a thing about colts these days. They are not afraid of the situation or any challenge. He has been given an opportunity and he has accepted that with open arms.
  • 32.1 Full on middle, blocked towards mid on.
  • Keemo Paul is back on. 4-0-28-0 so far.
  • 31.6 Around off, tightly defended. 172/1
  • 31.5 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 31.4 Full and around off, watchfully blocked.
  • 31.3 Punched off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 31.2 Short and outside off, cut straight to point.
  • 31.1 ALMOST A RUN OUT! Smiles with relief in the Indian camp. Pujara was nearly made a sacrificial lamb there. On middle, Shaw goes back and works it towards square leg. He takes the single and then looks to come back for the second. Pujara responds but then is sent back. He stutters, looks to get back and eventually dives in.
  • Right then. Here comes the moment. Shaw on 98. Can he get to his century in this over?
  • 30.6 Full and around off, watchfully defended. 171/1
  • 30.5 Back of a length delivery outside off, PS waits for the ball to come to him and dabs it behind point for a single.
  • 30.4 FOUR! PRISTINE! Shaw is just a hit away from a century. Half volley outside off, Prithvi reaches out, gets to the pitch of the ball and drives it through the covers for a boundary. No protection in the deep.
  • 30.3 Outside off, punched straight to cover.
  • 30.2 Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 30.1 Fractionally short outside off, coming in, Shaw looks to punch on the rise but the ball hits the inner half of his bat and rolls to mid on.
  • Just an update from the Under-19 Asia Cup. India are currently playing Bangladesh in Dhaka in the first semi-final and have recovered from 77/5 to post a competitive 172. On a slow and turning track, it will be interesting to see how the hosts respond. Afghanistan and Sri Lanka will feature in the other semi-final tomorrow.
  • 29.6 Full and around off, watchfully blocked. 166/1
  • 29.5 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 29.4 Comes down the track and defends.
  • 29.3 Tossed up slowly outside off, Pujara watches the ball carefully, sees it spin away, goes back and then pushes it to the off side.
  • 29.2 Outside off, this time Prithvi finds the gap at cover and gets a single.
  • 29.1 Short and outside off, Shaw cuts it hard but straight to the man at cover.
  • 28.6 Full on middle, driven straight to mid on. 165/1
  • 28.5 A slower ball, full toss, down the leg side, 128 kph, Cheteshwar misses his flick. Probably the lack of pace did him in.
  • 28.4 Full on middle, flicked straight to short mid-wicket.
  • 28.3 Good call from Pujara. A back of a length delivery outside off, Shaw backs away slightly and then guides it behind point. He takes the first run quickly and wants the second but that would have been suicidal. The fielder had already got to the ball and had the second been taken, a run out opportunity would have been created. Pujara sent Shaw back in time though.
  • 28.2 Outside off, played behind point for a single.
  • 28.1 Outside off, WOW. A rare sight since Lunch. LEFT ALONE.
  • 27.6 Short and outside off, cut straight to point. 163/1
  • 27.5 FOUR! Dropped short, Shaw goes back and pulls it through square leg for another boundary. Rainy season is over in major parts of India but in Rajkot, it is raining. Only, instead of water drops, it is boundaries.
  • 27.4 Full and around off, Shaw gets down and slogs it through mid-wicket for a brace.
  • 27.3 Full on middle, flicked towards short mid-wicket.
  • 27.2 Full on middle, pushed towards the bowler.
  • 27.1 FOUR BYES! The runs keep on piling. Short and outside off, Bishoo looks to cut but misses. The keeper is beaten by the spin and bounce while first slip does not have even half a chance.
  • 26.6 FOUR! A boundary to end the over. Half volley on middle, Pujara comes forward and whips it wide of Devendra Bishoo at mid on. 11 from the over. 153/1
  • 26.5 Driven through the covers by the batsman. The batsmen have picked up a couple of runs. 150-RUN STAND IS UP and the pair is showing no signs of tiring.
  • 26.4 Full on middle, pushed towards mid on.
  • 26.3 FOUR! Easy pickings. On a length outside off, Pujara waits for the ball to come to him and dabs it to third man for a boundary.
  • 26.2 Short and outside off, cut through point for a single.
  • 26.1 Full and outside off, pushed straight to cover.
  • Shannon Gabriel to bowl from the other end. 6-1-15-1 before Lunch.
  • 25.6 The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball towards long on. One run added to the total. 142/1
  • 25.5 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 25.4 FOUR! More evidence of what is mentioned on the previous ball. A slightly short ball on middle, Shaw pulls it over mid-wicket and gets boundaries in succession!
  • 25.3 FOUR! PLUNDERED! He is not letting any gears down. Full and outside off, Shaw gets down and mows it through mid-wicket for a boundary! Break or no break, this kid does not care.
  • 25.2 Outside off, punched towards mid on.
  • 25.1 Full and just outside off, Shaw defends watchfully.
  • Welcome back for the afternoon session. The men concerned are back on the field. Both the current Indian batsmen will be eyeing daddy hundreds with the way they are going. For Windies, they need a breakthrough immediately otherwise it will be a leather hunt for them. Devendra Bishoo to begin proceedings. A few fielders already placed in the deep and there is just one slip in a catching position. On the defensive, not good signs. Anyway, here we go...
  • ... DAY 1, SECOND SESSION ...
  • Not surprisingly, the visitors look flat and decimated already. There are fielding lapses being seen and the bowling is being more on the shorter side. All this on just the opening session of a Test match. Hopefully, we get some competitive cricket in the second session.
  • When the ball stops moving after 5 overs, then you will never wish to be a bowler. Spare a thought for the Windies. The track is as flat as the national highway but full credit to Shannon Gabriel whose 6-0-15-1 stands out in this heat. The rest have been ordinary, including the spinners, who have not been able to exert some control.
  • The day started well for the Windies though, with Shannon Gabriel trapping Lokesh Rahul LBW in the very first over. But after that, it has been one-way traffic. Shaw just took the bull by the horns and did not allow any bowler to dominate, while Pujara, after consuming a few balls early on, has started to stamp his authority.
  • You don't need to be a rocket scientist to find out that this is India's session. 133 runs, at a run rate of more than 5 an over. More than half of those being scored by an 18-year old. Oh yes, it is India's present with the future looking more than good.
  • 24.6 Full and down the leg side, flicked through mid-wicket for a brace. LUNCH ON DAY 1. 133/1
  • 24.5 Back of a length outside off, Pujara gets on the back foot and steers it straight to gully.
  • 24.4 Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 24.3 Outside off, played towards point for a run.
  • 24.2 EDGY FOUR! Too close for comfort. A short ball outside off, Shaw makes up his mind to play the cut but is cramped for room as the ball comes back in a long way. He gets a thick outside edge but because the second slip has been removed, the ball flies through the unmanned area. All the way to the third man fence.
  • 24.1 On a length outside off, Pujara waits for the ball to come to him and dabs it towards third man for a single.
  • 3 minutes to go for Lunch. Seems like Windies are not interested in even trying to get more than one over before the break. Here's Lewis.
  • 23.6 Similar ball, this is flicked through square leg and the result is a couple. Shaw moves to 70 from 72 balls. 125/1
  • 23.5 Full and down the leg side, flicked towards backward square leg.
  • 23.4 On middle, flicked through mid-wicket for a quick, quick run. Not sure that is needed at this stage. Just 5 minutes for the breather.
  • 23.3 Played to the mid-wicket region by the batsman.
  • 23.2 The batsman dances down the track but decides to defend it.
  • 23.1 Full and outside off, Shaw drives it straight back to the bowler. Should have been stopped but Chase fumbles and concedes a single.
  • 22.6 FOUR! 19th Test fifty for Cheteshwar Pujara! And it has come in just 67 balls. Consider this - he was on 2 from 21 deliveries. Surprisingly, this is just his first against Windies in 5 innings, with the previous 50-plus score crossing the 100-mark. Talking about the ball, Pujara comes forward and drives it past mid off and gets the boundary. 121/1
  • 22.5 Outside off, left alone.
  • 22.4 The batsman has flicked the ball off his pads. One run added to the total.
  • 22.3 Outside off, now he attempts the upper cut but misses.
  • 22.2 FOUR! Cracking shot. Short and outside off, Shaw lashes out the cut and gets it behind point to find the fence.
  • 22.1 Full and around off, watchfully defended.
  • Sherman Lewis is back on. 3-0-17-0 so far.
  • 21.6 On middle and leg, flicked through mid-wicket for a couple. 112/1
  • 21.5 Full and around off, watchfully blocked out.
  • 21.4 The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot. They pick up a single.
  • 21.3 Full on middle, flicked through mid-wicket for a single.
  • 21.2 The batsman dances down the track and does well to block the ball.
  • 21.1 FOUR! Pristine timing and effective precision! There is a man at short mid-wicket and a man at deep mid-wicket. Yet Pujara, with an efficiency second to none, finds the gap and the boundary. Full and on middle, Cheteshwar comes down the track and whips it through that gap.
  • 20.6 First flashy shot from Prithvi. Getting frustrated? A short ball outside off, Shaw slashes hard but misses. 104/1
  • 20.5 On middle and leg, flicked through mid-wicket for a single.
  • 20.4 One more leave outside off.
  • 20.3 Outside off, left alone.
  • 20.2 On a length outside off, watchfully defended.
  • 20.1 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 20.1 NO BALL! The second in this session and both have been, not surprisingly, by You-Know-Who. Nope, he is not Voldemort, if any Harry Potter fans are reading this. Gabriel bends his back and stretches his foot by a bit more than the permissible margin. Pujara lets it through. That raises the century stand as well.
  • 19.6 Defended off the back foot by the batsman. 102/1
  • 19.5 FOUR! This is overpitched but the result is the same! Toying with the bowling, is Prithvi. Chase tosses this up outside off, Shaw comes forward and threads this through the covers. Moves to 61 from 62 balls with 9 boundaries.
  • 19.4 FOUR! Bad bowling. Short and outside off, Shaw rocks back and punches it through the covers. There is a man in the deep, but he is at point. No point in even trying to chase.
  • 19.3 Around off, wristed through mid-wicket for a run. Moves to 40 from 54 balls.
  • 19.2 Landed outside off, pressed towards point for a single. The stand moves to 90 now.
  • 19.1 Full and around off, worked towards short mid-wicket.
  • 18.6 Short and outside off, thumped through the covers for one. 92/1
  • 18.5 Full and outside off, driven through the covers for a run.
  • 18.4 Slightly flashy from CP. A touch short outside off, the right-hander looks to cut but misses. No feet movement.
  • 18.3 A bumper down the leg side, Pujara ducks.
  • 18.2 The batsman defends it from within the crease.
  • 18.1 On a length outside off, Shaw punches it through backward point. The fielder from gully dives to his right and gets a hand to it, deflecting the ball towards third man. A single taken.
  • Shannon Gabriel is back on. 4-1-10-1 so far.
  • 17.6 Played through mid-wicket by the batsman. 89/1
  • 17.5 FOUR! Lovely shot. Full on middle, Pujara comes down the track and flicks it through mid-wicket. The fielder from long on hares to his right, puts in a dive but comes second best.
  • 17.4 HALF CENTURY ON DEBUT! Just the 12th Indian opener to do so in his first innings. Already making raves and the class is there to see for all. Full on middle, Shaw pushes it towards long on and gets to the milestone. He has done the hard work. Now, for the temperament to make it count. Becomes the youngest debutant to score a fifty in Test cricket for India and the fifth youngest overall.
  • 17.3 Full on middle, pushed towards mid on.
  • 17.2 Now it is dropped short. Shaw goes back and plays his favourite shot - the punch. Gets it behind point where it is saved with a slide. Two runs taken.
  • 17.1 Full and outside off, dabbed towards cover.
  • 16.6 Much fuller and CP blocks. 82/1
  • 16.5 Another long hop, this is outside off. Cheteshwar rocks back and pulls but finds short mid-wicket.
  • 16.4 FOUR! We are now witnessing a boundary ball almost every over. A short ball, down the leg side, Pujara goes back and pulls it behind square leg for a boundary.
  • 16.3 Landed outside off, played straight to point.
  • 16.2 Eases this through mid off for a run.
  • 16.1 Full and around off, watchfully defended.
  • 15.6 Driven through mid on by the batsman. They pick up a single. 77/1
  • 15.5 Full on middle, wristed towards long on for a run.
  • 15.4 Full and around off, Pujara is down the track again, only to defend.

  • 13.5 Down the leg side, flicked toward backward square leg for one.
  • 13.4 Short and outside off, cut through point for a run.
  • 13.3 FOUR! Finally a cover drive gets full justice. Half of his shots on the off side have found fielders but this one finds the gap. • DRINKS. Prithvi Shaw's session. He has been in the news right from last afternoon and continues to be, with every ball that he is facing and every shot that he is playing. He has shown no signs of nerves at all and taken the attack to the opposition. Attack - yes. With a strike rate of 91.67 in a Test match, what else would you say? One of my colleagues, ABK, jokes - he looks like a combination of Sehwag and Tendulkar. The former for flair. The latter for class and temperament. Just so that you don't feel that this is a blog about Shaw, let us focus on the game a bit. Windies have been a mixed bag. When the ball was moving around a bit, they managed to get a wicket but in the last half an hour or so, they have been pretty flat, just like the track. With Pujara now getting amongst the runs, the run-rate is on the move. Not to mention, the over rate is appalling.
  • 11.6 Outside off, tapped towards point for an easy single. 56/1
  • 11.5 Full and outside off, watchfully defended.
  • 11.4 Slightly slower in pace, outside off, 128 kph, Prithvi reads it well. Waits for the ball to come to him and then dabs it towards point for a quick single.
  • 11.3 On a length outside off, played towards cover.
  • 11.2 Well outside off, pretty full toss, Shaw reaches out but then lets it go.
  • 11.1 Full and outside off, driven beautifully but straight to mid off.
  • Keemo Paul is back on. 2-0-16-0 in his first spell. He replaces Lewis.

  • 10.5 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 10.4 Short and outside off, punched through cover for a single.
  • 10.3 FOUR! New-age player. What a way to bring up the 50-run stand. In just 58 balls. Full and outside off, tossed up a bit, Shaw leans and lofts it straight back over the bowler. The ball lands just inside the ropes near long off. Shaw moves to 31 from 31 balls and this is his fifth four.
  • 10.2 Outside off, pushed to cover for a quick single.
  • 10.1 FOUR! A short ball, down the leg side, Pujara initially looks to pull. But then, he is cramped for room a touch, probably because the ball spins in and bounces a touch. He now tries to adjust and attempts to lap it fine. As a result, gets a top edge which lands safely behind square leg. Finds the fence too. Moves to 20 from 28 balls. He was 2 from 18, not too long ago.
  • 9.6 Works it through mid-wicket for a run. 44/1
  • 9.5 A length ball outside off, Shaw gets on top of the bounce and punches it through point for a single. The stand moves to 40 from just 54 balls.
  • 9.4 The ball is too wide on the off side for the batsman to make any contact.
  • 9.3 Pushes this through point and gets a single.
  • 9.2 FOUR! Third boundary in the last four balls for Pujara. Short and outside off, the local boy gets on top of the bounce and punches it through point. Finds the gap and the boundary.

  • 8.2 The batsman defends it from within the crease.
  • 8.1 Landed outside off, Shaw looks to cut but misses.
  • Spin time now. Devendra Bishoo is inserted.
  • 7.6 FOUR! EVEN BETTER! Pujara is now getting into his stride. Full on middle, Cheteshwar drives this straight back. Shaw at the other end is nearly forced into a complete split as he falls flat on his back side. Pujara moves to 10 with 2 boundaries. The stand is worth 32 now. 35/1
  • 7.5 A touch short this time, cut straight to point.
  • 7.4 FOUR! MAJESTIC! The margin for error is a bare minimum on this track. Pretty full, around off, Pujara just gives it a bit of a direction. Past the non-striker and to the long on fence.
  • 7.3 Much slower than the previous one, 134 kph shows the radar, Cheteshwar defends it back to the bowler.
  • 7.2 Full and outside off, pretty fast, but a calm Pujara blocks.

  • 5.3 Fuller on middle, pushed towards mid on.
  • 5.2 Short and wide outside off, punched towards deep point for a single.
  • 5.1 Gentle loosener. Wide outside off, on a length, left alone.
  • Early bowling change. Sherman Lewis to bowl, replacing Keemo Paul. Not surprising, given that the latter went for 16 in 2 overs. The debutant is a right-arm pacer, with 49 wickets in First Class cricket, at an average of around 26 and a strike rate of close to 47. Got his Test cap from Ian Bishop earlier today. Lewis is the 316th player to represent Windies in Test cricket.
  • 4.6 A length ball outside off, played towards point. FIRST MAIDEN OF THE TEST MATCH. 24/1
  • 4.5 Full and just outside off, CP comes forward and pushes it towards cover.
  • 4.4 A bouncer now, Cheteshwar ducks.
  • All the Windies players are wearing black-arm bands as a mark of respect for Kemar Roach's late grandmother who passed away earlier this week.
  • 4.3 Full and just outside off, watchfully defended back to the bowler.
  • 4.2 Similar ball, this time Pujara meets it with a full face of the bat by coming forward.
  • 4.1 Full and outside off, coming in a long way, left alone.
  • 3.6 FOUR! Uppish but over the infield. Shaw is not letting any opportunity waste. Short and outside off, normally batsmen at this juncture of the game let balls go but not this kid. Flashes hard and gets a thick outside edge. Over gully and to the third man fence. Moves to 22 from 16 balls and this is his fourth boundary. The stand is now worth 21 from 19 balls. 24/1
  • 3.5 Another fine punch, but finds point this time.
  • 3.4 Outside off, punched towards cover.
  • 3.3 FOUR! Badly lined. A length ball, down the leg side, Shaw just gives it a little tickle and finds the fine leg fence.
  • 3.2 Full and outside off, driven sweetly but straight to point.
  • 3.1 FOUR! On middle and leg, Shaw tucks it through mid-wicket. Sunil Ambris gives it a good chase from short mid-wicket, gets to the ball and then tries to pull it back, but in vain.
  • 2.6 A length ball outside off, defended from the crease. 12/1
  • 2.5 A slower ball, outside off, fuller in length, driven towards cover.
  • 2.4 The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot. Good running between the wickets to pick up three runs. Shaw moves to 10 at run-a-ball.
  • 2.4 NO BALL! The first of hopefully, not many. Gabriel does not have a great history with overstepping. And he has made a mark in his second over straightaway. Oversteps by a big margin, just about touches the popping crease, lands it a touch short and Shaw ducks.
  • 2.3 On middle and leg, helped towards fine leg for a single.
  • 2.2 Around off, watchfully defended.
  • 2.1 That is a jaffa. He has got his tail up for sure. The pace is up - AT 149 KPH. A length ball outside off, Pujara looks to play that from his crease but the ball comes back in a long way and goes right between bat and pad. Plenty of movement.
  • 1.6 A length ball this time, punched square but finds point. 7/1

  • 1.4 Full on middle, flicked straight to short mid-wicket.
  • 1.3 Short and outside off, cut beautifully but point dives to his right to stop it.
  • 1.2 Wide outside off stump, the batsman leaves it alone.
  • 1.1 No warm-up. A bouncer around off, Shaw ducks.
  • In comes one of the local lads - Cheteshwar Pujara, pretty much earlier than he would have expected. Keemo Paul to bowl from the other end.
  • 0.6 OUT! LBW! Waste of a review by Rahul. Gabriel has struck in the first over. Beauty of a delivery after a wasted first few balls. On a length outside off, Rahul puts in half a stride but fails to cover the line. The ball comes back in a long way and hits him flush on the pads. Gabriel appeals and appeals but umpire Ian Gould is not impressed. Eventually, after a long thought, he raises his finger. Rahul walks across to his partner, has a chat and then signals for the review. Bad choice. Hawk Eye shows the impact in line and the ball crashing into the middle and leg stumps. A blob for Rahul then. 5th overall in Tests but the second in his last 5 innings. 3/1
  • Howzzat? Rahul has been adjudged LBW. He has taken the review though. Looks plumb to the naked eye.
  • 0.5 Outside off, played towards point.
  • 0.4 Full and outside off again, lesser width, the batsman lets it go.
  • 0.3 Excellent fielding! Full and wide outside off, Rahul reaches out and drives it behind point. But Shai Hope at gully dives to his right and makes a brilliant stop.
  • 0.2 Shaw is up and running. And a nice way to do so as well. A length ball outside off, not as wide as the previous one, Prithvi gets on top of the bounce and punches it through the covers. The fielder from point gets to the ball, puts in a slide, pulls the ball back in but it rolls back towards the ropes. However, he dives after coming out and saves the boundary. Three runs taken.
  • 0.1 A little bit of movement in the air, but a touch wide outside off, Shaw shoulders arms.
  • The anthems are done and the players make their way out to the middle. A big, big moment for Prithvi Shaw as he takes the field, ahead of Lokesh Rahul. Now, the Windies follow suit. Shannon Gabriel will make the first use of the new cherry. Shaw will face him. Amazing. Normally, the senior pro takes strike first up but not this kid. Here we go. Let's play!
  • Time for the national anthems. As is the tradition, the Windies' one is played first up.
  • Kraigg Brathwaite says that he also wanted to bat first. But now, hopes that his bowlers strike with the new ball and get some early wickets. Is eager to stay aggressive and enjoy the game. Informs that Jason Holder is missing out due to an ankle injury while Sunil Ambris comes back into the playing XI. Also tells that Sherman Lewis makes his Test debut for the Windies. On his unit doing well recently, Brathwaite hopes that the good run continues.
  • Virat Kohli says the surface is nice and dry and the grass is there to hold it together. Reckons that the conditions are good to play cricket as well and feels that the spinners will come into play on Day 3 and further. Feels sad for Shardul Thakur on missing out but is equally excited to see the young Prithvi Shaw and Umesh Yadav in the playing XI. On the team aim, Virat stresses that the basics should not be let go of - the batsmen need to get runs while the bowlers should not be letting their focus dip.
  • TOSS - We are all set for the spin of the coin. But big news - KRAIGG BRATHWAITE has come out in place of Jason Holder. Kohli flips the coin, Brathwaite calls Heads but it is a Tail. INDIA ELECT TO BAT FIRST.
  • WEATHER - The conditions are a bit murky with the sun yet to assume full heat. But needless to say, as the first session comes to a close, the players will feel the heat.
  • With India making a statement, announcing their twelve yesterday afternoon itself, they have gone even bolder by announcing the playing XI well before the toss. PRITHVI SHAW IS MAKING HIS TEST DEBUT while Shardul Thakur is the one missing out in this game. As for the Windies, we await their team news.
  • Test cricket is back in India! And it is inaugurated with Windies coming to the shores. A low-profile series it might be, but could make the careers for a few players from both sides. Prithvi Shaw for India. Sunil Ambris for the Windies, if selected. Also, a chance for the Indian batsmen to tune up before the tour to Australia. And, a chance for the tourists to show that they can provide a better future for their country in this sport. Hello and a warm welcome to the opening Test of the 2-match series between India and Windies in Rajkot.

India Vs West Indies Live Score (TEST) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • The Windies have around 30 minutes to bat till Lunch. The least they can hope is to try and see off this period without losing a wicket. The players are back out to the middle. Kraigg Brathwaite and Kieran Powell come to bat for the second time in 2 days. The skipper will take strike to Mohammed Shami. Here we go...
  • What to talk about the Windies? Seemed clueless with the bat. Chase showed how to bat on this wicket while Paul was brilliant in his first innings in India. Sunil Ambris showed a bit of promise but he needs to be patient as well. The rest were simply poor.
  • The bowling was accurate and pinpoint. Exactly how a dominant team should bowl. Shami strutted his stuff with swing and reverse while Ashwin and Jadeja did their bit with spin. Umesh Yadav was disappointing yesterday but he made up for it this morning. Kuldeep Yadav though, was a big disappointment. He was being attacked but he did not vary his pace at all and even struggled to land the ball on a consistent length.
  • The innings has been done and dusted in 48 overs. Apart from the Chase-Paul stand this morning, India have simply not had to break any sweat. The most bowlers bowled were 11 by Umesh and Ashwin each.
  • 47.6 OUT! Easily stumped. The carrom ball becomes the undoing of Gabriel after playing out almost the whole over watchfully. The ball is tossed up outside off and Shannon is drawn forward to defend. He misses the line comprehensively and almost as a reflex action, his feet come out of the crease. He tries to get his left foot back but by that time Pant has whipped off the bails. It always looked out to the naked eye but Ian Gould at square leg did not want to take any chances. INDIA LEAD BY 468 AND HAVE ENFORCED THE FOLLOW-ON.

  • 38.5 Around off, defended from the crease.
  • Devendra Bishoo walks in. He is known to hang around for a while...
  • 38.4 OUT! Umesh has broken through! The dangerous Paul is dismissed, just 3 short of his maiden Test fifty. End of a wonderful knock. The bowler is also sensing it as for the first time in 7 wickets, we have seen someone celebrating or roaring. Clearly India were getting frustrated and are pumped up now. A short ball outside off, Paul instantly looks to pull. But the pace of Umesh does him in. He is not able to time his shot properly and the ball gently lobs towards mid-wicket. Cheteshwar Pujara comes running a few paces and takes a good catch. This is one thing which Shami missed this morning. He kept bowling full, full and full, searching for swing while Umesh has tried all sorts of things, eventually getting rewarded. As they say, change is the essence of life and Shami did not change his length much.
  • 38.3 FOUR! Another one off the outside edge. Full and outside off, Paul comes forward and looks to defend, but with soft hands. The ball takes the edge but the ball goes onto the ground and escapes the man at gully. All the way to the third man fence. The stand is worth 73 now, from 80 balls.

  • 34.5 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 34.4 The ball is way wide on the leg side but the batsman still goes after it.
  • 34.3 FOUR! A bit streaky but it is a boundary to raise the 50-run stand in just 55 balls. On a length outside off, Paul gets squared up a touch as he looks to defend. After facing two incoming deliveries, this one moved away and hence the squaring up. But the outside edge dies down and runs wide of gully to the third man fence.
  • 34.2 A length ball, on middle, Paul gets across, looks to tuck but misses. Shami puts in an LBW appeal but it is turned down immediately. Possibly an inside edge.

  • 32.6 Excellent delivery. Full and straight, Keemo keeps it out. 117/6
  • 32.5 FOUR BYES! Shami struggles to control the swing on this occasion. Bowls it way down the leg side and even though Paul cannot connect his attempted flick, it is too wide for the diving Pant as the ball races to his left to the fine leg fence.
  • 32.4 EDGED, FOUR! Interesting tactic from Paul. He has noticed that the ball is reversing and is trying to counter it by walking down the pitch. He does so here, but Shami bowls it wide outside off. Pretty full, the drive is attempted again and this time the outside edge is induced. But it goes wide of gully to the third man fence.
  • 32.3 And again. The drive, the swing and then the miss.
  • 32.2 Full and outside off, Paul reaches out to drive but misses.
  • 32.1 DIRECT HIT WOULD HAVE HAD PAUL! Kuldeep has his hands on his head. That would have been the second run out of the innings. Full and outside off, Chase pushes it to the off side and then calls his partner through. Paul responds but is a bit late to take off. Kuldeep Yadav gets across to his left from cover, collects the ball, takes aim and then has a shy at the striker's end with Keemo not even halfway down the pitch. Misses.
  • 31.6 Floated outside off, Paul lunges and blocks. 108/6
  • 31.5 A long hop, pulled towards deep mid-wicket for a run.

  • 31.3 The batsman defends it from within the crease.
  • 31.2 Full and around off, there comes the sweep - towards deep square leg for a single.
  • 31.1 NEARLY A CHANCE! That would have been a weird dismissal. Short and outside off, Paul goes back and looks to cut. But the ball spins back in sharply and cramps him for room. He is hit on the right glove and the ball lobs in the air. Prithvi Shaw dives to his left at short leg but cannot get there.
  • 30.6 Full and around off, watchfully blocked out. 106/6
  • 30.5 Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 30.4 Going for the reverse, gets the ball moving but it is a full toss on middle which Roston pushes it towards silly mid on.
  • 30.3 Full and outside off, pushed towards mid off.
  • 30.2 Outside off, watchfully defended.
  • 30.1 Full and wide outside off, Chase reaches out and drives it wide of mid off for a couple.
  • Mohammed Shami to bowl from the other end.
  • 29.6 FOUR! 10 runs from the opening over of the day! Full and around off, Paul gets down and clobbers the sweep past Prithvi Shaw at short leg. There is a man at long leg but before he can run 5 paces, the ball is past him to the square leg boundary! 104/6
  • 29.5 Floated outside off, KP looks to defend but gets a thick inside edge onto his pads. Short leg thinks he has a chance but the ball drops down in front of him.
  • 29.4 LUCKY! Keemo looks to go through the off side again, aiming to force it off his back foot but the ball spins in, sticks off the pitch, takes the inside edge and misses the stumps and goes to Virat Kohli at leg slip!
  • 29.3 A tad short again, Keemo goes back and punches it through point for a brace. All three balls have seen attacking shots so far.
  • 29.2 FOUR! Fuller and around off, Paul gets down and sweeps it through mid-wicket for a boundary!
  • 29.1 Short and outside off, punched straight to cover.
  • Nice to see Kohli smiling. He is with his teammates in a huddle and seems to be giving some instructions. Now, the players disperse. Out walk Roston Chase and Keemo Paul. Kuldeep Yadav will begin proceedings for the day. Paul to face. Here we go!
  • After a totally one-sided matchup prior to the weekend, will Saturday prove any different? The Windies have simply not turned up either with the bat or ball and India look all set to get a massive lead. The question is - will Kohli enforce the follow-on if the lower order bats for more than an hour? On the other side, can the tourists frustrate the hosts with some resilience? Hello and a warm welcome to the third day of the opening Test between India and Windies in Rajkot.
  • ... DAY 3, MORNING SESSION ...
  • Alright then! This match has developed pace in a frenetic manner. The Indian bowlers will be looking to come back fresh on Saturday morning and try and get the remaining 4 wickets in the first hour. And then, probably enforce the follow-on and give us an off on Sunday. Join us at 0930 local (0400 GMT). ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
  • Ravindra Jadeja is now giving an interview to Sanjay Manjrekar. The all-rounder says that he is happy on getting a ton after 9 years in international cricket. Details that in the past, he used to get out in the 70s and 80s, thinking about the century. But today, he finally managed to get past that mental hurdle. Admits that he too, is surprised and disappointed that he has never got a hundred and is very happy that he eventually got one, which he will remember for a long time. On being reminded about his 80-odd against England recently, he says that in that inning, Anderson and Broad were bowling really well and the conditions were overcast as well, which means not much was there in the batsmen's favour. Hence, he was only thinking about scoring runs. First 50, then move on from there and keep going. Talking about being given opportunities, he remembers that he was given a chance after 15 months, where he spent time away from ODI cricket. (The topic has diverted to Asia Cup by the way). Admits that he felt the pressure to perform - but to himself, not for others. Further says that he is enjoying his cricket. On being asked about his affected run out today, he explains that when he saw both Hetmyer and Ambris at one end, he thought that there is no need to hurry and hence he was walking towards the stumps. But suddenly, he saw Hetmyer running and had a shy. Is embarrassed about what would have happened had he missed and considers himself lucky that his shy found the mark.
  • Is this Indian attack the best in the world? No Bhuvi. No Bumrah. No Ishant. Yet they have piled on the pressure on the opposition. Agreed, the Windies are not that technically sound but this is a terrific team bowling effort. First, you need to see the new-ball bowlers off in Shami or Bumrah or Bhuvi. Then, you encounter the spin of Ashwin or Jadeja or Kuldeep. The main bowlers did well in England. And here, the bench has strutted its stuff.
  • The opening batsmen were clueless against the guile of Shami while the middle order was consumed by spin. Then of course, some generosity was produced as well in a run out and a wild shot. Overall, nothing much to describe in the tourists' batting, except for Roston Chase, who has shown the gumption to survive.
  • A forgettable couple of days for the visiting side. First, they were pummeled mercilessly with the bat and then, have been almost skittled out in not even half the time. The players look fagged out under the heat and have simply not turned up.
  • 28.6 The reverse on offer again. Full on off, coming in a long way, Chase just about keeps it out towards mid-wicket. STUMPS ON DAY 2, WINDIES TRAIL BY 555! 94/6
  • 28.5 On a length around middle, watchfully blocked out.
  • 28.4 The batsman has been struck on the pads as he looked to play that off the front foot. The fielding side are asking the question. The umpire decides the batsman is not out.
  • 28.3 The batsman has flicked the ball off his pads. They manage to come back for the second.
  • 28.2 Full and straight, driven straight back to the bowler.
  • 28.1 Oopss... Full and outside off, Chase reaches out and looks to defend but gets a bottom edge which just misses the stumps!
  • Mohammed Shami to bowl the final over of the day.
  • 27.6 Pitched outside leg, KP pads it away. 92/6
  • 27.5 The batsman gets an inside edge on that which goes fine down the leg side.
  • 27.4 The googly, outside off, Keemo goes for the wild slog but misses.
  • 27.3 The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
  • 27.2 FOUR! Full and around off, Paul gets down on a knee and sweeps it powerfully through square leg for a boundary!
  • 27.1 SIX! SLAM! Full and outside off, Paul comes down the track and sends the ball over long on! Does not matter to Paul even if there are just 2 overs to the close.
  • 26.6 FOUR! A bit of reverse coming in and Shami gets too greedy. Bowls a length ball on the pads and is flicked towards square leg. 82/6
  • 26.5 The batsman comes down the track and does well to get his body behind the ball. The fielding side is asking the question. One run added to the total. The umpire signals a leg bye.
  • 26.4 Full on middle, pushed towards mid on.
  • 26.3 On middle and leg, played towards mid-wicket.
  • 26.2 The ball is down the leg side but the batsman still goes after it.
  • 26.1 That ball has taken the inside edge of the batsman and thudded into his pads.
  • Mohmmed Shami is back on.
  • 25.6 Played to the mid-wicket region by the batsman. The batsmen have run through for a single. 77/6
  • 25.5 Now Paul goes for the heave and mistimes it over mid on. Lokesh Rahul runs back and tries to take it but he cannot get there either. Just about stops it before the ball touches the ropes. A couple taken.
  • 25.4 INSIDE EDGE, NOT TAKEN! Full and around middle, Paul looks to defend but the ball goes off the glove, takes the pads and then lobs in the air. Prithvi Shaw runs back from short leg but cannot quite get there.
  • 25.3 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • Into the bowlers now. Keemo Paul is the first of them.
  • 25.2 OUT! Right through! Kuldeep is amongst the wickets as well. Tossed up around off and outside, Dowrich looks to push it through the off side but is done in by the flight and pace. He misses and the ball spins right in, hitting the timber. This is similar to the way Kuldeep dismissed Peter Handscomb from Australia in the Dharamsala Test.
  • 25.1 Full and around leg, Dowrich looks to defend but misses and is hit on the pads.
  • 24.6 The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball. One run added to the total. 74/5
  • 24.5 Full nd outside off, pushed straight to cover.
  • 24.4 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 24.3 Full and outside off, watchfully defended.
  • 24.2 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 24.1 FOUR BYES! Full and down the leg side, Dowrich looks to paddle but misses. Pant is blinded behind and the ball races away to the fine leg fence.
  • 23.6 Played to the point region by the batsman. They pick up a single. 69/5
  • Issue with the ball. Kuldeep shows it to the umpire and Kohli comes across, a bit concerned. Umpire Nigel Llong puts it through the 8-shaped guage and it passes through. So the ball is given back to the bowler. Nothing wrong with the shape.
  • 23.5 Full and outside off, driven towards long off for a single.
  • 23.4 Full and outside off, pushed towards mid off.
  • 23.3 On middle and leg, flicked towards mid-wicket.
  • 23.2 FOUR! A wild slog. Full and outside off, Chase gets down and heaves it over mid-wicket for a boundary. That was not from the middle of the bat.
  • 23.1 Full and around off, watchfully defended.
  • 22.6 Outside off, played towards point. 63/5
  • 22.5 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 22.4 Short and outside off, cut straight to point.
  • 22.3 The batsman has flicked the ball off his pads. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 22.2 Landed outside off, defended back.
  • 22.1 Full and around off, Dowrich comes forward to defend but the ball lands, spins away, takes the outside edge and goes wide of slip. A single.
  • 21.6 Full and outside off, driven towards the bowler. 61/5
  • 21.5 Tossed up a bit, blocked back to the bowler.

  • 21.3 Pitched outside leg, Roston lunges and drops the ball down in front of short leg.
  • 21.2 A touch short, worked towards square leg.

  • Kuldeep Yadav into the attack now.
  • 20.6 Full and straight, watchfully patted back. A maiden over from Jadeja, India's 4th in this innings. 61/5
  • 20.5 Full and around off, driven towards mid off.
  • 20.4 A touch short, punched towards cover.
  • 20.3 Outside off, Chase drives it towards silly point where Prithvi Shaw tries to get out of harm's way but is hit on the right shin. That would have hurt.
  • 20.2 Arrows it on middle, Chase drives it inside out wide of cover for a single.
  • 20.1 Full on middle, pushed back to the bowler.
  • 19.6 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground. 61/5
  • 19.5 On middle and leg, flicked towards mid-wicket.
  • 19.4 Full and outside off, Chase uses his big reach and defends.
  • 19.3 On middle, flicked straight to short mid-wicket.
  • 19.2 FOUR! Nicely timed. Full and outside off, Chase jumps out and hits this straight back over the bowler for a boundary down the ground. The stand moves to 12 now.
  • 19.1 Full and around off, watchfully defended.
  • 18.6 FOUR! A rare bad ball. Short and outside off, Dowrich goes back and cuts it between cover and point to find the fence. 57/5
  • 18.5 It's been driven superbly through the covers.
  • 18.4 On middle and leg, worked to the leg side.

  • 16.5 Full and outside off, pushed straight to cover.
  • 16.4 The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball. The batsmen have picked up a couple of runs. 50 UP FOR THE WINDIES! An achievement.
  • 16.3 Tossed up outside off, Dowrich plays that a bit uppishly but it does not carry to cover.
  • 16.2 Full on middle, driven straight back to the bowler.
  • Shane Dowrich walks in at number 7, replacing Ambris.
  • 16.1 OUT! Strikes first ball! The magic of 'Sir' on display straightaway. Full and outside off, Ambris looks to drive it forcefully through the off side but he is not quite to the pitch of the ball. It spins away, takes the outside edge and Ajinkya Rahane at first slip takes a sharp catch. From Ambris' point of view, well, his policy might have been to attack Jadeja from the word go. But he could have waited a couple of balls and then tried his ploy. Half the side is back in just 16 overs.
  • Here comes 'Sir' Ravindra Jadeja.
  • 15.6 Full and outside off, pushed towards mid off. 49/4
  • 15.5 On middle, flicked away for a run.
  • 15.4 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.

  • 15.2 FOUR! PUMMELED! Full and outside off, Chase comes down the track and swipes it over mid-wicket. The ball just bounces in front of the ropes.
  • 15.1 Comes down the track and works it wide of mid-wicket for a single.
  • 14.6 The batsman works it down the leg side. They pick up a single. 40/4
  • 14.5 A length ball wide outside off, Sunil chases after it and nearly edges it behind. The ball moves further away after pitching.
  • 14.4 On middle and leg, worked towards mid-wicket.
  • Umesh Yadav gets a warning, meanwhile, for running on the danger area. Not official, just a friendly advice.
  • 14.3 Full on middle, Ambris flicks it uppishly and it almost carries towards Prithvi Shaw at square leg! That is a very rare position in Test cricket. Seems like Kohli has studied Ambris well in whatever little time he has spent at the crease.
  • 14.2 Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 14.1 Around off, defended from the crease.
  • Good news for India. Mohammed Shami is back on the field.
  • DRINKS BREAK. Terrorizing passage of play for the visiting side. They were not able to get much wickets when India were batting and now, they are not able to get any runs. They are not even close to face pace or spin. With 15 overs left in the day, all they can hope now is to try and see those out without any more damage. All the best.
  • 13.6 Defended off the back foot by the batsman. 39/4
  • 13.5 Full and around off, Roston looks to defend but the ball goes off the inside edge, just wide of short leg!
  • 13.4 Full and outside off, well defended.
  • 13.3 EDGED, WIDE! Full and outside off, Roston lunges to defend but the ball goes off the outside edge, just wide of a diving Ajinkya Rahane at first slip! Two runs taken.
  • 13.2 FOUR BYES! That has missed everyone and everything. Full and outside off, Chase stays back to defend but the ball snakes off the pitch, beats the outside edge, misses the pad and then goes over the stumps, missing the keeper as well, enroute the fine leg fence.
  • 13.1 Around off, defended from the crease.
  • 12.6 Another one on the pads, SA misses his flick again. 33/4
  • 12.5 Down the leg side, Sunil misses his flick and is hit on the pads. The bowler appeals but that was going down the leg side.
  • 12.4 Slips this down the leg side, flick shot missed.
  • 12.3 On middle and leg, worked to the leg side.
  • 12.2 The batsman works it down the leg side. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 12.1 Full on middle, flicked uppishly, but just wide of short mid-wicket.
  • 11.6 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat. 32/4
  • Roston Chase walks in at number 6, replacing Hetmyer.
  • 11.5 OUT! Confusion everywhere! Oh dear... a comedy of errors. First, a short ball. Hetmyer works it towards the leg side and initially sets off. Ambris responds but then Hetmyer changes his mind. Both batsmen are within handshaking distance of each other and then go back into the batting crease. Now, Ambris is frustrated and plonks his bat at the striker's end. Amidst all this, Jadeja has still not released the throw. Seeing that, Hetmyer starts to run. Jadeja still does not throw and Ashwin has already walked away from the stumps. At the last moment, Jaddu throws and luckily for him, it hits the stumps! He smiles but Kohli is not amused.
  • 11.4 Lucky escape. Full and on middle, Hetmyer comes down the track and looks to go over the top but mistimes it over mid-wicket. Jadeja hares after it from mid on and keeps the batsmen to a couple.
  • 11.3 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 11.2 Full and outside off, watchfully defended.
  • 11.1 Full on middle, pushed through mid on for a single. Ambris has actually got what he wished. His couple of shots through and over the infield in Ashwin's previous over have resulted in Kohli spreading the field. Strange.
  • 10.6 On a length outside off, let through. 29/3
  • 10.5 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 10.4 Around off, defended from the crease.
  • 10.3 Wide outside off stump, the batsman leaves it alone.
  • 10.2 Outside off, Hetmyer plays inside the line and is beaten.
  • 10.1 Full and around off, watchfully defended.
  • 9.6 FOUR! A bit of a miscue this time. Ashwin will not mind. He gives this a bit more air and Ambris is out of his crease again. This time though, he is not quite to the pitch of the ball. Still, he goes through with his lofted shot and clears mid-wicket. A couple of bounces into the fence. 29/3
  • 9.5 Outside off, a touch wide. Sunil reaches out to block but misses.
  • 9.4 FOUR! AMAZING! What a shot to play on the second ball that you face. Full and outside off, Ambris comes down the track, gets to the pitch of the ball and drives it wide of mid off to find the fence.
  • 9.3 On middle and leg, flicked straight to short mid-wicket.
  • Sunil Ambris walks in now.
  • 9.2 OUT! BOWLED! For a second, we felt that it was a play and a miss. It is indeed a play and a miss but the ball has missed the bat and hit the stump. Ashwin amongst the wickets now. Full and outside off, Hope comes half forward to defend but misses. The ball goes past the bat, misses his back pad as he looks to cover the line and then clips the bail over the off stump. Superb.
  • 9.1 On middle, flicked towards mid-wicket for a single.
  • 8.6 Outside off, punched through the off side. 20/2
  • 8.5 Full, very full, almost a yorker, Hetmyer pushes it back past the bowler. Takes Ashwin on at mid off and gets a quick single. There is a shy at the bowler's end and it is a direct hit but the batsman is well in.
  • 8.4 Stays back in his crease and punches it back to the bowler.
  • 8.3 Around off, going away, Hetmyer feels for that but gets beaten.
  • 8.2 Played to the point region by the batsman.
  • 8.1 Around off, watchfully blocked out.
  • Umesh Yadav is back on.
  • 7.6 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery. 19/2
  • 7.5 Flicks it away for a single.
  • 7.4 The batsman has been struck on the thigh pad.
  • 7.3 Outside off, dabbed to third man for a single.
  • 7.2 Close call! Short and outside off, Hope looks to cut but gets a thick inside edge onto his pads.
  • 7.1 Down the leg side, flicked away for a single.
  • Mohammed Shami is going off the field. Seems to be an issue with his hamstring. Spin is in. Here is Ravichandran Ashwin.
  • 6.6 FOUR! Fine shot again. Full and straight, Hope sends it right back to where it came from. 16/2
  • 6.5 Full on middle, driven towards mid on.
  • 6.4 The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
  • 6.3 A length ball outside off, Hope looks to cut but gets a bottom edge behind, towards the slip cordon.
  • 6.2 Outside off, left alone.
  • 6.1 Full and around off, driven straight back.
  • 5.6 Full on middle, driven straight back. 12/2
  • 5.5 Outside off, Shimron plays inside the line of that and is beaten.
  • 5.4 FOUR! EDGED away! No one to catch that. Why? On a length outside off, Hetmyer slashes hard and gets a thick outside edge which flies past gully to third man.
  • 5.3 On a length outside off, Hetmyer plays inside the line and is beaten.
  • 5.2 The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot. They pick up a single.
  • 5.1 Outside off, Hope lets it through.
  • 4.6 Full on middle, pushed towards mid on. 7/2
  • 4.5 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 4.4 Outside off, left alone.
  • 4.3 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 4.2 A bouncer, Shimron ducks.
  • Who is next to face the Shami music? Shimron Hetmyer comes the reply from one of my colleagues. Can he get Windies out of this mire?
  • 4.1 OUT! One brings another and now Shami has two! The around the wicket angle has done the trick for the bowling side. Shami comes charging in and Powell, shuffles across his sticks. He misses his flick and is hit flush in front. Shami appeals and up goes Ian Gould's finger! Powell is ready to go back but then Hope calls him back and they decide to go for the review. Bad, bad call. Not from the umpire. But by the batsmen. Hit in line, going to hit the stumps.
  • Powell has been adjudged LBW! But he wants another look at it. Looks dead plumb.
  • 3.6 Outside off, punched to the off side. 7/1
  • 3.5 FOUR! SWEET! What a shot. Probably the best of the day. Full and around off, Hope drives it straight back. Bisects mid off and mid on perfectly and finds the fence. First boundary of the innings.
  • 3.4 The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
  • 3.3 Down the leg side, flick shot missed.
  • 3.2 The batsman appears to have been struck on the thigh pad.
  • 3.1 On middle and leg, Powell works it towards mid-wicket where Prithvi Shaw fumbles and allows the southpaw to get off strike and off the mark.
  • 2.6 Stays deep in his crease and defends. A terrific wicket maiden from Shami. 2/1
  • 2.5 The ball is too wide on the off side for the batsman to make any contact.
  • 2.4 Outside off, an easier leave this time as the ball is a touch wide.
  • 2.3 Another cracker. Shami is getting into his groove. The ball lands on a length outside off, Hope is leaving it but then that nut comes back in a long way. Just about misses the sticks.
  • Shai Hope comes in at number 3, replacing his skipper.
  • 2.2 OUT! The delivery is deemed legal and the Windies captain has to depart. Replays seemed touch and go and it felt as if the foot landed on the line. However... anyways. That takes nothing away from the delivery. This is the Shami we all know about. Not the one who bowled the first over. He lands this on a good length outside off and skids it on. Brathwaite is not sure - whether to play from the crease or go forward. Whether the ball will move in or move out. Eventually, he decides to play back, as the ball comes in. But he is late. The cherry shoots onto his pads, misses the bat and knocks the off stump out of the ground. What a sight for any fast bowler. Brathwaite is asked to wait and as the replays are shown, Kohli is seen nervous. On the line? Anything behind? Something behind, according to the one sitting upstairs. That's what matters.
  • Bowled! Neck and crop! But has Shami overstepped? They are checking...
  • 2.1 Full and outside off, driven straight to cover.
  • 1.6 Full and outside off, Powell looks to defend but gets squared up and an outside edge is induced. Goes all along the ground. 2/0
  • 1.5 The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
  • 1.4 A touch fuller, outside off, Powell drives it through the covers but it is stopped with a dive.
  • 1.3 The batsman defends it from within the crease.
  • 1.2 Another one down the leg side, flicked away for a single.
  • 1.1 He too, starts with a delivery down the leg side, Brathwaite misses his flick.
  • Umesh Yadav to bowl from the other end.
  • 0.6 Brathwaite is away. Windies are away. Full and down the leg side, the skipper flicks it towards fine leg and gets off the mark. A rusty over from Shami - all over the place. Sprayed it everywhere. 1/0
  • 0.5 On middle and leg, played towards short mid-wicket.
  • 0.4 Around off, defended from the crease.
  • 0.3 Full on middle and off, now that is something which Brathwaite has missed out. Flicks it straight to short mid-wicket.
  • 0.2 Landed outside off, moving away, left alone. That was a touch wide.
  • 0.1 A length ball around off, Brathwaite looks to tuck it to the leg side but misses and is hit on the thigh pads.

India Vs West Indies Live Score (TEST) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • Right then! That ends a totally one-sided Test match. Not sure we were expecting anything different but we were HOPING for a contest. Will we see anything different in the second Test? Join us on Friday, October 12, 2018 in Hyderabad from 9.30 am local (0400 GMT). Till then you can catch some more one-sided stuff in the SA-Zim series and 'hope' for a contest in the Pak-Aus clash. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
  • PRITHVI SHAW HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH for his fantastic century. Says that he is more happy for the team and is happier that his contribution could come in the cause. Says that there is no change in the preparation - whether one plays First Class Cricket or Test cricket. Hopes to continue doing his stuff.
  • Victorious Indian captain Virat Kohli says that one cannot compare the conditions in England and here. Is honest enough to admit that with India's quality, they are expected to be dominating at home, purely because they have done that so many times in the past. Dodges the question about Windies' surrender and says that his team's focus is to be consistent and they did that. Stresses further that it was a clinical performance and is delighted for Shaw and Jadeja. Praises the 18-year old for grabbing the opportunity with both hands. Also says that the declaration was delayed purely because the team wanted the all-rounder to reach his century. On the seam bowling, Virat says that both the quicks were very good, on a track which had nothing for fast bowlers. Adds further that the spinners have always been good on such surfaces any which ways. Informs that the reason for going in with 5 main bowlers was to rotate the players in the heat. Smiles on being informed that India's over-rate was close to 17 an hour and puts it down to the new rules which do not allow flexibility in drinking water. Also says that India were never bothered with the over rate as they have plenty of spinners in their ranks who finish off their overs quickly.
  • Windies captain Kraigg Brathwaite credits India for showing how to master Test cricket. On being asked about the margin of defeat, Kraigg puts it down to batting issues with no partnerships being strung. Feels that had they got 2 or 3 big stands, they would have done well. On being asked about Jason Holder's fitness, Brathwaite says that he is not sure and they will have to assess in the next couple of days.
  • That was NOT the presentation. It is coming up now...
  • Kuldeep says that sometimes it takes a little bit of time to take wickets and in the second innings, he was rewarded for his patience. On his liking for the types of balls, Yadav goes the opposite. Says he likes Kookaburra and is not so happy with the SG. On his ploy to come around the wicket, the chinaman says that they discussed it in the dressing room and he was asked to try changing the angle and it worked.
  • Ravichandran Ashwin is giving an interview to Sanjay Manjrekar, along with Kuldeep Yadav. The offie says that he was bowling really well before injury and only wanted to get that rhythm back. Admits that he was nervous yesterday but once he bowled a couple of overs, he got confident. On the difference between the types of balls in England and India, Ashwin says that there is a massive factor in terms of gripping and movement. On his preference, he says that he loves holding the Dukes ball but is disappointed with Kookaburra. Is okay with the SG. On being asked about Windies' surrender, Ashwin does not admit on the upfront but then eventually says that he is shocked more than surprised to see so many shots being played in a Test match.
  • This Test match result cannot come in any better manner for the Indian side. They have just come from a gruelling Test series in England with the batsmen not making runs and the spinners struggling. Back home, both the negatives have been converted into positives and all of a sudden, the mindset is double positive, which will not do them any harm before their tour to Australia.
  • After being asked to bat again, perhaps one might have expected to see some fight from the Windies. There was a bit - with Kieran Powell really playing well. But once he got out, the procession was fuelled. What was surprising was the amount of shots played in the second innings. As many as 7 sixes were hit, with the batsmen clearly trying to hit the spinners off their lengths. But they were just trying it way too often and paid the price.
  • Now about India's bowling because there is nothing much to talk about their opponents' batting. Test match is a test of patience but they were hardly tested. Shami struck early with the new ball in the first innings and then Ashwin got 4 more because of his guile than the pitch.
  • It could not have started better for the visiting side. Coming on Indian soil, then striking in the first over. But after that, it just got pear-shaped. Prithvi Shaw's attack put them on the defensive and they simply could not get going. Keemo Paul breaking down before Lunch on Thursday did not help matters either and as a result, they saw 3 centurions, a 90-odd and an 80-odd. Bishoo did get a 4-fer but was not that threatening.
  • The players shake hands but Jason Holder just sits there in the Windies' dressing room, totally flummoxed. Was this a pitch which seemed like a minefield? Or was it all in the mind? Perhaps the latter.
  • 50.5 OUT! That ends the Test match. Thank you for watching. India have earned their BIGGEST EVER WIN IN TEST CRICKET, in terms of runs. Full and on middle, Gabriel tries to repeat what he did on the third ball but this time there is a man near the ropes. Kuldeep Yadav is the man at the fence and he takes a decent catch. INDIA WIN BY AN INNINGS AND 272 RUNS!
  • 50.4 Slower ball around middle, pushed to the off side.
  • 50.3 FOUR! There you go. Tossed up and there she goes. Gabriel blasts it over mid on.
  • 50.2 A touch shorter than full, pushed back to the bowler.

  • Right then. Jaddu vs Shannon...

  • 49.5 Outside off, a play and a miss.
  • 49.4 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 49.3 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 49.2 The batsman defends it from within the crease.
  • 49.1 DROPPED! That was a sitter. Full and outside off, Dowrich lunges to defend but the ball spins in, takes the inside edge and flies straight to Prithvi Shaw at short leg. However, he is perhaps too eager to take the winning catch and fumbles.
  • Shannon Gabriel is the last man in. How long is this match gonna last?
  • 48.6 OUT! Dead plumb. The strength of Jadeja is that he keeps his line straight. This is pitched around leg and Lewis attempts a wild slog. However, he misses as the ball spins away and is hit on the pad. Jadeja appeals and up goes the finger. Lewis does not even bother reviewing. 192/9
  • 48.5 Driven towards the mid off region. The batsmen have run through for a single.

  • 45.3 Around off, Lewis blocks.
  • 45.2 Lewis fails to get bat on that one and is hit on the pad.
  • 45.1 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • Ravichandran Ashwin will bowl from the other end.
  • 44.6 Slower ball on off, Dowrich plants his foot forward and sees it off. 185/8
  • 44.5 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 44.4 Short ball outside off, cut past point but does not run.
  • 44.3 Full this time around off, bunted down.
  • 44.2 Loopy ball on middle again, played with a straight bat.
  • 44.1 Short ball in line of the stumps, nicely blocked by Dowrich.
  • We are back for the final session of the day. Perhaps, what should be the final session of the match. Shane Dowrich and Sherman Lewis stride out to face the Indian spinners. Ravindra Jadeja will bowl the first over post Tea.
  • ... Day 3, Session 3 ...
  • Just a mere formality left in this game now. Don't expect the Windies to try and block to delay the inevitable. Stay tuned... in case it becomes a you-blink-and-miss final session of the match.
  • India were happy with the way their opposition were playing. Just keep looping the ball, be prepared to get hit for a few boundaries and then get wickets on a platter. Shami and Umesh have bowled just 6 overs, happy to just field the ball while the spin trio has taken 8/152 in 38 overs combined.
  • This was expected but not at such a high strike rate. The Windies are not known to be great players of spin and hence they collapsed in the first innings. Perhaps coach Stuart Law instructed them to play their shots in the second innings. The start was decent - 79/1 at one stage but then as they say, if the batsmen lived by the sword, they died by it as well.
  • Sorry state of affairs. We are about to witness a 3-day Test. 12 wickets have fallen in 2 sessions today - to be more precise, in just 63 overs. That is almost a wicket every 5 overs. 11 of those have been to spin.
  • 43.6 OUT! Fantastic review from Pant and India! Windies are 8 down. The Indians are all smiles. Especially Ashwin. The keeper was the only person confident while the others were just joining in. Coming to the ball, it is down the leg side and Bishoo looks to sweep it fine. However, he misses. Now, Pant hears something and instantly appeals. For a second, I realize that age is catching up with me and my hearing senses are getting numb. But to my relief, none of my colleagues heard any sound either. But India put in a huge appeal while umpire Ian Gould shakes his head. Pant immediately urges Kohli to go for the review and his captain promptly agrees. Snickometer shows it in the first go. Terrific review though... wonder how come the others did not hear the noise? That includes me too. Anyways... TEA HAS BEEN TAKEN ON DAY 3. 185/8
  • HOWZZAT? HOWZZAT? HOWZZAT? Pant reckons that he has Bishoo caught behind. India have reviewed it.
  • 43.5 Full again, watchfully defended.
  • 43.4 The batsman failed to make contact and was hit low on the pads.
  • 43.3 Full and around off, watchfully defended.
  • 43.2 FOUR! A rare bad ball. Down the leg side, Bishoo helps it to the fine leg fence.

  • 41.6 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground. 177/7
  • 41.5 The carrom ball, but Bishoo reads it well. Plays it with soft hands and the outside edge does not carry to Rahane at first slip.
  • 41.4 Full and outside off, Dowrich looks to defend but gets an outside edge which goes past point. A single taken.
  • 41.3 Outside off, pushed back to the bowler.
  • 41.2 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.

  • 40.6 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery. 176/7
  • 40.5 FOUR! BRILLIANT! Full and outside off, Bishoo drives it past the bowler and beats mid off!
  • Devendra Bishoo walks in for the second time in the day.
  • 40.4 OUT! Another gift of a wicket. That Sunday holiday seems to be more inviting to the Windies than us. Tossed up outside off, Paul looks to add to the tally of the sixes of his team. But there is a man placed at long off. Straight to Umesh Yadav. Sigh. Really pitiable.
  • 40.3 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 40.2 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.

  • 35.5 FOUR! Full and outside off, Paul gets down and sweeps it through mid-wicket for a boundary! He has been doing that all morning.
  • Keemo Paul is the new man in at number 8. Given the way he batted this morning, one could either see the score rocket skywards till he is there. On the flip side, the seventh wicket might not be far away either.
  • 35.4 OUT! Edged and taken! MAIDEN TEST FIFER FOR KULDEEP! Number 6 is down and this one is of the set batsman - Powell. A beautiful ball. After the long hop on the previous ball, Kuldeep bowls this much fuller and the line is on the stumps. Kieran presses forward to defend but the ball spins away and goes straight off the face of the bat. Where? To the debutant standing at silly point. Prithvi Shaw is alert and takes it well. Fine knock from Powell, deserved a century.
  • 35.3 FOUR! Short and wide outside off, slapped through the covers for a boundary. 150 COMES UP FOR WINDIES, but at the cost of 5 wickets. Still 317 behind.
  • 35.2 Way too short, but stays low. Dowrich looks to pull but because of the low bounce, mistimes it towards deep mid-wicket for a single.

  • 34.6 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery. 146/5

Lady Luck does not bother to keep him on the field. Straightforward catch to Ashwin at cover. Kuldeep cannot control his laughter. This is silly cricket.

  • ... Day 3, Session 2 ...
  • Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts taking 4 wickets. He also provided the breakthrough for them in their second innings. The Windies have capable batsmen in their ranks but need to apply themselves. A tough task ahead for them as the Indians are getting the ball to turn. Will the match end today itself? We shall wait and watch. Join us for the second session at 1210 local (0640 GMT).
  • Keemo Paul and Roston Chase came out this morning and took the attack to the Indians. They played attacking cricket and made Kohli think. Especially, Keemo Paul. Chase got to his 50 but his partner missed out. India knew they were just one wicket away and Umesh broke the partnership. The tail followed suit.
  • Another session won by the Indians. They have dominated the pie chart and will look to do so in the whole Test. They bowled the Windies out today and got them to follow on as well and with a wicket down, they will look to end the Test today itself.

  • 1.4 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 1.3 Comes down the track again but is not to the pitch of the ball. Is hit on the pads and Ashwin appeals but the batsman was way too far down the track and was hit outside the line as well.
