  • So South Africa would look and hope to negotiate around 20 remaining overs of the day. India would be looking to cap off the day with a couple of wickets to make it another successful day of Test.
  • A gruesome day for the visitors. They were made to toil hard on Day 1. They would have hoped a new day could bring new hope but that was not to be. As on a hot and humid day their bowlers were made to work ultra hard and in the process they made some mistakes. Muthusamy should have had Kohli's wicket when the Indian skipper was on 208 but that was not to be as the spinner overstepped. Keshav Maharaj had a long spell but just a wicket to show for it. Muthusamy too picked up one in the end. Rabada was the standout bowler with three wickets.
  • The day belonged to one man - King Kohli! He was excellent from the start of the day and built on his start he got on Day 1. After Mayank Agarwal with his century and Pujara with his fifty set the platform. Kohli built on that with Rahane. First he continued, last night's good work with sides vice captain. Once Rahane got dismissed, the Indian skipper joined hands with Ravindra Jadeja. The duo added a massive 225-run stand with Kohli not just getting to his 100 but then going onto convert it into 250. Jadeja after taking his time, took the charge and fell just 9 short of a well deserved ton.
  • After dominating the day, India have finally declared. The tired South Africans will now have to come out and bat which won't be an easy task.
  • 156.3 OUT! Jadeja holes out and with that India have decided to declare! And guess what? Muthusamy has not overstepped this time. Tossed up on middle, Jadeja looks to whack it over long off. He gets the height but not the distance. It goes to the right of long off, Theunis de Bruyn runs to his right and takes a very good catch. Jadeja misses out on a well-deserved ton but this shows the heart of this man. He could have taken his time to achieve the milestone but he decides to go for the big one and falls. Nonetheless, the man has played an innings worth being called as 'Sir'. India declare on 601/5.
  • 156.2 Tossed up on off, Jadeja defends it to the on side.
  • 156.1 Flatter outside off, Kohli looks to flat bat it through covers but this one comes off the lower half of his bat. Just a single.
  • 155.6 Tossed up on off, Kohli pushes it towards cover for a single. 600 comes up for India. 600/4
  • 155.5 FOUR! Kohli brings his 250 in style. I am out of words. The only thing I can talk abiut Kohli is, he has been batting for so long but has not broken a sweat. Top-class fitness! Floated on middle, Kohli whacks it over mid-wicket for a boundary to achieve this feat.
  • 155.4 Flighted on off, Jadeja comes down the track and nudges it to long off for a run.
  • 155.3 Around off and short, Kohli dabs it down towards third man for a single.
  • 155.2 Short from Elgar, Jadeja pulls it to deep mid-wicket for a single.
  • 155.1 On the pads, Jadeja flicks it to the man at mid-wicket.

  • 154.3 That has spun off the rough! Flighted outside off, Kohli looks to drive but misses. The ball spins away and beats de Kock as well. Du Plessis at first slip dives to left and saves runs for his side.
  • 154.2 Short and wide outside off, Jadeja cuts it to deep point and walks to the other end.
  • 154.1 Floated on middle and leg, Kohli milks it to long on for one.
  • 153.6 Shorter around off, Kohli late cuts it towards third man and keeps the strike. 584/4
  • 153.5 Tosssed up on off, VK pushes it to mid off.
  • 153.4 Straighter one outside off, Kohli looks to cut but misses. The ball just about misses the edge. Elgar goes up in confidence but nothing from the umpire. Kohli and de Kock look at Elgar and both of them have a huge smile on their faces.
  • 153.3 Short around off, Jaddu cuts it towards deep point for one.
  • 153.2 FOUR! It goes with double the pace that came in. Elgar bowls it slower and flight it on off, Jadeja smashes it over the bowler's head. The ball bounces inside the ropes and goes away for a boundary.

  • Dean Elgar is back into the attack.

  • 151.5 Another couple! This time Kohli opens the face of the bat and helps it to third man. The batters take two off it.
  • 151.4 Great running! Commendable fitness of the Indian batters this! Down the leg side this one, Jadeja tickles it down the leg side. Kohli is still fresh like he is batting on 32 not 232 and he completes the third run easily.
  • The physio is out in the middle now. It looks like Keshav Maharaj has hurt his right shoulder in an attempt to save the run for his side. This just is adding insult to injury at the moment.
  • 151.3 Shortish on middle and leg, Kohli punches this one towards long on for a single. Maharaj dives to his right in an attempt to save the single but the ball goes past him. He might have hurt himself in the process too.

  • 149.6 FOUR! Now on the off side. Disastrous return for Maharaj. 21 runs of the over. Short outside off, Kohli cuts it with sheer venom and gets a boundary. That also takes Virat Kohli's international run count to 21,000. India have cut loose here and are in T20 mode now. 551/4

  • 149.4 Short again, Kohli finds the fielder at mid-wicket with his pull.
  • 149.3 SIX! Kohli too now takes the aerial route! Floated on off, Virat comes down the track and smashes it over long off for a biggie.
  • 149.2 Maharaj goes short, Ravindra pulls it to deep mid-wicket for a single.
  • 149.1 SIX! Jadeja goes downtown! Tossed up on off, Jadeja comes down the track and whacks it over the bowler's head for a handsome biggie.
  • Change of ends for Maharaj.
  • 148.6 EDGED AND FOUR! How lucky can Kohli be? Shorter and outside off, Kohli tries to cut it but the ball goes off the inside edge towards the left of Faf du Plessis. • Senuran Muthusamy is back on. 15-1-59-0, his figures so far. Don't want to rub salt on the wound but had he been a bit careful, he would have had a wicket to his name.
  • 147.6 Kohli gets on the back foot and defends it. End of a very expensive over, 13 runs off it. 519/4

  • 145.5 Full and floated on middle and leg, pushed towards mid on for a single.
  • 145.5 No ball! What has Muthusamy done here! It looked to everyone like he had got the wicket of Virat Kohli twice in two Tests but MUTHUSAMY HAS OVERSTEPPED! This is criminal from him, especially being a spinner. The ball is floated just outside off, Kohli prods forward and looks to defend but edges it. Faf du Plessis at first slip takes a very good low catch. Kohli starts walking off the pitch but the umpire wants to check the No Ball and he stops Kohli. He goes to the third umpire and the replays show that Muthusamy has indeed overstepped.

  • 143.4 DOUBLE HUNDRED FOR VIRAT KOHLI! His 7th Test double ton. This man is just pure class. All the adjectives in the world is just not enough to describe this man. On the pads, Kohli turns it behind square on the leg side and gets a couple to get to his double hundred. He raises his bat with a huge smile on his face. His teammates and the crowd stand up to applaud the King! The King is back! • ... Day 2, Evening session ...
  • India have strolled through yet another session and out of the 5 sessions played in this match, they have dominated all 5. Kohli is just 6 runs short off his double ton and the next session will be all about on what total do India want to declare their innings because quite honestly, it does not seem like South Africa will be able to take 6 more wickets. South Africa look down and out and will just be waiting when do India declare. Only the wicket of Rahane fell in this session but except for that, nothing good happened for the visitors. Stay tuned for the final session on Day 2 which resumes at 1430 Local (0900 GMT).
  • 117 runs in 28 overs for the hosts. Just 1 wicket of Rahane for the visitors. There seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel for the visitors here as India are on their race cars speeding away from them.

The task for them is getting tougher by the minute with the spinners not being able to get much off the surface. Stay tuned for the second session which will start at 1210 Local (0640 GMT).
  • A session where India found it difficult to score runs in the morning, but as time went on, the captain and the vice captain got into their groove. First, Rahane reached his half ton and then probably the best batsman in the world right now, Virat Kohli got to his maiden Test ton in 2019. Both of them edged some deliveries but were lucky as some fell short while others didn't carry. However, after the Lunch break, they might be looking to come out all guns blazing and cross the 500-run mark having already crossed 350 runs.

  • Kagiso Rabada is down with South African great Shaun Pollock for an interview. Rabada says that there was a tinge of green on the surface and it was a decent Test wicket. Feels that they were a bit unlucky but states that it is how Test cricket works. He quips that that this wicket is a bit similar to the ones in Mumbai. Looking on the positives on Day 1, Rabada says that they bowled well and restricted the run rate a bit. Feels that had luck been on their side, they could have had some more wickets and gone back in with a smile on their faces.
  • Pitch report - Murali Kartik is down with Sunil Gavaskar for the pitch report. Kartik states that some rough areas started to form on the pitch after just 10 overs of play on Day 1. Mr. Gavaskar states that the pitch has dried up today and that is why it will play much better today for the batters. Adds that yesterday there was some moisture due to the rain and that helped the bowlers. Gavaskar thinks that with the second new ball in hand now, they should be looking to hit the perfect lines and lengths to trouble the batters. Further suggests that the South African bowlers should be looking to bowl in the area of uncertainty and mix it up with the short ball. The South African bowlers need to tighten up and not bowl loose deliveries.
  • On Day 1, South Africa started well as they kept the explosive pair of Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma at bay, which resulted in Rohit Sharma being dismissed cheaply. However, from there on in, it was India all along. Mayank Agarwal was the star of the day as he got to his ton. Pujara and Kohli both got to their half tons with the latter still unbeaten. Rahane is with his skipper at the crease and both have combined for an unbeaten 75-run stand. India will be looking to continue their strong performance on Day 2 and as stated by Mayank Agarwal yesterday, they will be looking to post a total around the 500-run mark. As for the South African bowlers, Kagiso Rabada was the only successful bowler as he took all the wickets yesterday.
  • Welcome to the coverage of the second day of the Test match between India and South Africa. Will India continue to dominate the proceedings and outbat the visitors on Day 2? Or do South Africa have the bowling prowess to enforce a collapse? Stay tuned to find out!
  • ... Day 2, Session 1 ...
  • So the day belonged to India but there were some positives for the South Africans as well. Will South Africa find a way to restrict India under 400 or will India continue to pile on the South African misery? Join us on 11th October, i.e., Friday for Day 2 of this Freedom Trophy. Till then, cheers!
  • Centurion from the day, Mayank Agarwal is caught down for a chat with Harsha Bhogle. Agarwal says he is very happy to get back-to-back hundreds. Tells he is happy as the team is in a good position having lost just 3 wickets. Mayank says he was happy with how he was playing today. Mayank says that long distance running and meditation has helped him to play big innings. Adds that reading his own game has also played its part. Tells there was moisture in the wicket and credits Rabada and Philander for the lines and lengths they bowled. On what will be a good score, Mayank says 450-500 will be good if they don't want to bat again.
  • It was a gruesome and tiring day for the South African bowlers. They started off well but were not consistent with their line and length. They were on and off throughout the day. Kagiso Rabada did not start well but at the end of the day, he was the only successful bowler as he got all 3 wickets. Nortje was impressive with his pace on debut but struggled for consistency. Philander bowled well but had nothing to show for it. Faf du Plessis would be looking for a better showing on Day 2 from his bowlers.
  • Pujara though fell against the run of play. Kohli replaced him out in the middle and played second fiddle to Mayank who got his second century of the series. Unlike the first innings of the first Test, he could not convert this into a double ton and fell prey to Rabada. Rahane and Kohli then took their time. The captain and vice-captain of the side then added an unbeaten 75 before bad light ended play.
  • A day that clearly belonged to India. After winning the toss and opting to bat, the hosts did not get off to a good start. Losing the Man of the Match from the previous game early on, it looked like on a green wicket South Africa would make the hosts pay. But Pujara and Mayank Agarwal had other ideas. The duo added a 138-run stand for the second wicket and solidified the innings with both the batters getting to their respective fifties.

  • 80.1 Stifled appeal but nothing from the umpire. Good length ball on off, it nips back in. Kohli looks to defend but it hits him high on the pad. Philander is the only one going up in his appeal. He later suggests it is too high and they do not take the review. Replay then rolls and Ultra Edge shows that there was a slight inside edge as well.

  • The session belong vastly to the duo of Agarwal and Pujara. The duo continued on their impressive batting display from the first session and added a total of 138-runs with both the batters getting to their respective fifties in this session. It looked like India would end the session without any casualty but just about 10 minutes before the break Rabada found a way to get past Pujara. It was a tough session for the visitors but towards the end it looked like they found their energy back which was lacking prior. With one new batsman at the crease, South Africa will be looking to build on it and get on top in this Test. The question is can they? Join us after the break for the final session of the first day.

  • This one might well be called as a shared session between the two sides but India might have edged it towards the end. The day started on a positive note for the visitors as their pace attack got some purchase off the pitch and kept India strangled. • Cheteshwar Pujara is down with Laxman Sivaramakrisnan for an interview. Pujara states that each and every Test match is important and it was good to start the series off with a win. On his innings in Vizag, he states that the pitch was tough to start off with but once he came to know the pace of the pitch it was easier to bat on. The preparation for this match has been going well and the team morale is high. Further says that definitely there will be more pace and bounce on the pitch compared to Vizag and spin will come into play later on in the Test.
  • SOUTH AFRICA PLAYING XI - Aiden Markram, Dean Elgar, Theunis de Bruyn, Temba Bavuma, Faf du Plessis (C), Quinton de Kock (WK), Senuran Muthusamy, Vernon Philander, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje (DEBUT, IN FOR DANE PIEDT).
  • INDIA PLAYING XI - Rohit Sharma, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (C), Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav (IN FOR HANUMA VIHARI) and Mohammed Shami.
  • Faf du Plessis, the South African skipper states that probably losing the last toss was a bigger disappointment as this pitch is a touch harder than the one in Vizag. There is one change for South Africa as Anrich Nortje makes his Test debut replacing Dane Piedt. Faf states that another seamer comes in which would help them. Taking 20 wickets in India is their main task which they were unable to do in the last match. A Test debut for any player is special and states that Anrich Nortje will be happier playing on this pitch as compared to the one in Vizag.
  • Indian skipper, Virat Kohli says that the first couple of days will be good for batting as the pitch will start deteriorating after that. Further states that runs on the board always help on putting pressure on the opposition. Unfortunately, Hanuma Vihari misses out as Umesh Yadav replaces him. They needed the fifth bowler as in hot and humid conditions, Shami and Ishant have been bowling their hearts out and Umesh Yadav can give them some respite in that sense.
  • Toss - Up goes the coin... tails is the call and heads it is. Virat Kohli wins the toss and has chosen to bat first.
  • Pitch Report - Murali Kartik is down with Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar for the Pitch Report. Kartik states that the pitch has superficial grass on it. This will be a pretty good pitch to bat on. Mr. Gavaskar says that the pitch is dry and that means there will be spin on offer for the bowler's. Congratulates the ground staff for their work on the pitch. There are some damp patches on the outfield which might delay the start a bit. Mr. Gavaskar states that the team who wins the toss should bat first as the pitch will start deteriorating after the first day itself.
  • There was a heavy rain rain yesterday and a little bit today in the morning as well which might delay the start of the match as there are some wet patches on the outfield.
  • Good morning everyone as we welcome you to the second Test match of the series between India and South Africa.

India Vs South Africa Live Score (TEST) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • We are all set to begin. The Indian players walk out to the field and are taking their respective positions in the field. South African openers, Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar stride out to open the innings for South Africa. The duo will have to play a marathon knock. Ishant Sharma to operate with the new ball. 3 slips and a gully in place for him.
  • BREAKING NEWS - INDIA HAVE ENFORCED THE FOLLOW-ON!
  • Pitch Report - Murali Kartik and Sunil Gavaskar are the pitch analyst once again. Gavaskar tells the wicket is not much different from Day 3. Sunil agrees that a few cracks have opened up but he reckons that won't make a huge difference. Gavaskar opines that India should enforce follow-on as he feels the bowlers are well rested and with rain playing a possible spoilsport he feels there is no reason they shouldn't enforce the follow-on. Kartik adds it is easier to bat as the ball gets softer. Murali though feels India will enforce the follow-on.
  • Virat Kohli is out with the bat practising and Kagiso Rabada is stretching out. Looks like India won't enforce the follow-on. But Ashwin is also having a go with the ball in the nets. So the hosts continue to keep their cards close to themselves.
  • Hello and welcome to the Day 4 of 2nd Test of the Freedom Trophy. The punters must have had a real long day after Day 3 as Indian skipper has kept everyone waiting of his decision whether he will enforce the follow-on or not. If the hosts enforce it then this might well be the final day of this Test. South Africa, on the other hand, will look to take positives from the fight their tailenders showed and will have to bat out of their skins if they are to survive this match. If the hosts decide to bat again then we could have an ODI-esque type of cricket in the first session. What will be captain Kohli's decision?
  • ... Day 4, Morning Session ...
  • So a tiring day but India still well on top of this game. They still have a chance to enforce the follow-on on Sunday. The question is will Kohli take it after his bowlers had such a long day in the field? South Africa will take heart from Maharaj and Philander's performance and feel better showing from the top order can save this Test. What is on store for us on Day 4? Join us on Sunday, 13th October at 0930 Local (0400 GMT) to find out. Till then, cheers!
  • A tiring day for the Indian bowlers. Till the first hour of the second session, the Indian bowlers were on top and enjoying themselves out in the middle. But after that their pain started. They had scalped 5 wickets in the first 44 overs of the day but for the next 2 to arrive they had to bowl almost the same. The duo of Jadeja and Ashwin had a long day in the field as they were made to bowl long spells. Ashwin managed to get rid of the tail at the fag end of the day, finishing with a 4-fer. Ishant Sharma was the only genuine bowler who went wicketless. Jadeja, Shami and Umesh Yadav had 1, 2 and 3 wickets respectively.
  • But just like every underdog story there was a fight. There was determination. The inspiration came from an unlikely source. Keshav Maharaj who was battling a shoulder injury joined hands with Vernon Philander who grabbed a pair in the first Test. The duo showed how to play in these testing conditions. They fought hard, battled the spinner and added 109. In a game where South Africa were trailing by 439 with just 2 wickets in hand. Their 109-run stand might not seem too much of a difference maker but the duo spent more than 3 hours out in the middle. In the process Maharaj got to his maiden Test fifty. The time spent by the duo made sure that even though India could enforce the follow-on they will have to wait till Day 4.
  • The day began as many people predicted it to begin. South Africa lost night watchman Anrich Nortje early in the day. Theunis de Bruyn got a start but could not make the most of it. Then started the vistors' fight. First skipper Faf du Plessis and de Kock added a 75-run stand with the skipper getting to his fifty in the process. De Kock though could not continue his fight and Muthusamy too did not last long. Faf du Plessis also threw in his towel as he was dismissed by Ashwin. At 162/8 and just one hour of the second session gone, the question in everyone's mind was what will happen? Will India bat again today or will South Africa bat twice in a day?
  • Take a bow, Maharaj and Philander! When many expected and thought South Africa would not just bat twice but lose some wickets as well in their second innings, the duo had other ideas.
  • 105.4 OUT! LBW! Rabada is the last wicket to fall and finally, after some stubborn resistance, South Africa have been dismissed for 275. Ashwin gets his 4th wicket of the innings and India will be mightily pleased to know that this innings has ended today itself. Ashwin floats this one on the middle pole line, it pitches and straightens but not enough to meet Rabada's blade as he plays outside the line. The ball hits him on the pad, India appeal and the umpire raises his finger. Rabada straightaway goes for the review knowing he is the last man at the crease. Replays roll in, Ultra Edge shows no bat involved. Ball Tracker comes into play and shows the ball to be hitting the leg pole. This is the 50th Test wicket for Ravichandran Ashwin against South Africa. That will be the last ball of the day as the umpire takes the bails off. STUMPS, DAY 3!

  • 101.4 OUT! CAUGHT! Finally the resistance of South Africa is broken and Ashwin is the man to provide the breakthrough! Muthusamy gets his front foot out and looks to pad it away. Jadeja and the Indian players put in a stifled appeal. The ball goes behind and it looks like the umpire has turned it down but then the umpire raises his finger. Muthusamy has a word with Faf du Plessis and then refers it upstairs. Replay rolls in and shows the impact was outside but as Senuran was not offering any shot that is not an issue. The Ball Tracker then shows the ball was going onto hit the stumps. Muthusamy has to walk back to the pavilion for the first time as this is his first dismissal in the series. Replays later on show Jadeja was not even appealing. He had his hand on his head and was surprised and delighted when the umpire had raised his finger. South Africa lose one of their two reviews.

He dives and tries to pluck it out with one hand but the ball does not stick in his hand. Muthusamy breathes a sigh of relief because had he got out, the resistance after this looks pretty bleak.

It just about clips the bails of the off pole and the ball is gathered by Saha behind the stumps. De Kock is confused about what happened. His skipper asks him from the other end whether he nicked it to which de Kock denies. De Kock then asks one of the Indian players and he replies that de Kock has been bowled. Overnight batsmen, Theunis de Bruyn and Anrich Nortje walk out to resume their innings. The former will take the strike. Mohammed Shami to bowl the first over of the day. He was amazing yesterday with the ball.
  • PITCH REPORT - Murali Kartik and Sunil Gavaskar are the pitch analyst for the day. Gavaskar says that there is rough for Jadeja outside the off stump of the left-hander and there will be odd balls that will turn but Gavaskar thinks that the visitors should not worry much as it is still a good wicket to bat on. Sunil thinks there is no devil in the pitch and South Africa need to fight the devil that is just in their head. Kartik tells the texture of the surface is hard. Sunil then adds that the spinner will come into play but tells it is not a crumbly wicket and it is still good to bat on. Kartik adds that there is grass on the middle of the pitch which will help the pacer and some of the balls from there have kept low. He asks Gavaskar on how should one face such deliveries, Gavaskar jokes and says that the batsman can just pray.
  • Welcome to the Day 3 of the Freedom Trophy. India are well and truly on top of this one. India managed to get 3 wickets towards the end of Day 2. Kohli would be hoping that his boys continue their good work today as well. The question is if India restrict the visitors under 300 will they give the follow-on? As for the visitors, if they manage to avoid the follow-on score then that would be a morale booster for them. Can South Africa put on a fight or will India continue their dominance.
  • ... Day 3, Morning Session ...
  • So, what is in store for us on Day 3? Will South Africa collapse meekly or will they put up a resistance similar to the one they put up at Vizag in the first innings? Join us tomorrow at 0930 Local (0400 GMT) to find out. Till then, Adios and take care!
  • Harsha Bhogle is having a chat with Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane says that the way they batted they thought they have super-fast bowlers and hence they wanted to play the one hour well. Admits that they were looking at 500-plus but the way Jadeja and Kohli batted made it look easy. Rahane feels that this is not a 600 wicket. On batting with Kohli, Rahane says they enjoy each other's company and they knew they were one batsman short and needed to build a partnership. On the conditions, Rahane says it is better than Vizag as it was very hot and humid there. On whether the game will be spin dominated, Rahane tells it is hot and there is moisture in the wicket, so the pacers can exploit that. As far as spin is concerned, Jinx says the ball is turning and feels Ashwin and Jadeja are world-class bowlers, calling them dangerous on every wicket.
  • South Africa came into bat later in the third session and their top order was dismantled by the Indian bowling attack. Umesh Yadav took 2 wickets while Mohammed Shami also bagged one as they made full use of the new ball. Markram, Elgar and Bavuma were the victims who were dismissed in single digits as the quality of the Indian bowling attack was too much for them.
  • Earlier in the day, India cruised along as they posted a mammoth total of 601 runs on the board with three 100-plus run stands in the innings. The star of the day was King Virat Kohli who scored a double ton and formed century stands with Rahane and Jadeja respectively. Rahane scored a half ton and so did Jadeja, but one must say that had Jadeja been a bit selfish, he would have got to his ton as well. He fell for 91 trying to hit quick runs for his side. Kohli was unbeaten at the other end and declared the innings as soon as Jadeja departed with Kohli scoring 254 runs. South Africa were toothless in their bowling and not one bowler stood out. Rabada took 3 wickets while Maharaj and Muthusamy had one each. They leaked runs however and the wickets that fell were too late.
  • So, India walk back to the pavilion led by their skipper Virat Kohli amongst huge applause from the crowd. South Africa lost three wickets later in the evening but the night watchman has done his job as the visitors finish Day 2 on 36/3.
