  • With dew coming into the picture during the run chase, the Indians will fancy the chase with the kind of batting lineup they have. The opening stand for them will be the key. Interesting to see how the Indians approach the run chase. Can they win the first game of their home season or will the visitors be able to make a winning start to the tour? Join us back for the run chase in a short while.
  • Temba Bavuma is down there for an interview with Shaun Pollock. He says that he is happy with his performance but wanted to do bit more for the team. Says that Quinton's innings helped him to settle down and the tour here with the A team helped him to acclimatize to the conditions. Further says that the pitch was a good one to bat on but got difficult as the ball started to stop on the surface.
  • For the hosts, Navdeep Saini (barring the last over), Deepak Chahar and Hardik Pandya were excellent in the final overs. In the spin department, Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja made sure the run scoring was always under check.
  • Skipper Quinton de Kock along with Reeza Hendricks started the innings with a bang. The South African skipper looked on song from the start and raked up a top notch half century. He along with Bavuma added a crucial 57-run stand. The visitors were looking on track but the wicket of de Kock brought down the run rate and good smart bowling from the Indians strangled the run scoring.
  • A last over flourish would mean that South Africa has a decent total to defend. They were pushed back by the Indian bowlers during the middle overs but they would take this score after the crumble.
  • 19.6 SIX! Bam! Another slower ball disappears over the fence. A very good finish for the South Africans. 16 runs from the over. A slower ball around middle and leg, Pretorius clears his front leg and wallops it into the mid-wicket fence. South Africa end with 149 runs on the board.
  • 19.5 Fuller ball around off, Pretorius drives it through mid on and takes a quick couple. He takes Jadeja's arm on and makes it.
  • 19.4 Full toss outside off, Phehlukwayo goes back to make room, he drills it through covers for a single this time.
  • 19.3 SIX! Finally a six! Slower ball on middle, slightly shortish, Phehlukwayo reads it well this time and pulls it over the mid-wicket fence. A much needed six for the visitors.
  • 19.2 Yorker this time. Pretorius can only jam it towards the third man region for a leg bye.
  • 19.1 Good length ball outside off, Pretorius goes for the cut by shuffling towards the leg side but is beaten.
  • Navdeep Saini will bowl the last over. His figures read 3-0-19-1.
  • 18.6 Nails the yorker this time, does Pandya. No room whatsoever for Pretorius to open his arms. Pretorius fails to jam it out and it goes off his pads. A leg bye picked. Excellent over from Hardik, just 4 runs and a wicket. 133/5
  • 18.5 Another slower bouncer. Another attempted pull fails as Phehlukwayo is hit on the body again. The ball goes towards square leg for a single.
  • 18.4 Banged one short around leg. Phehlukwayo goes to pull but can't get bat on ball. He inquired about the wide from the umpire but well, the umpire's call is final.
  • 18.3 Length ball outside off, Pretorius drives it firmly but can't beat the mid off fielder. They get just a single.
  • 18.2 Good length ball on middle, Phehlukwayo tucks it towards short third man and takes a single.
  • Andile Phehlukwayo replaces David Miller in the middle.

This is a slower one on middle, Miller goes for the slog but he has been beaten for pace. He goes too early into the shot and misses. The ball goes to shatter the woodwork behind.
  • Hardik Pandya is back into the attack!
  • 17.6 A low full toss on the pads to finish the over. Miller flicks but will only get a single as he finds the deep mid-wicket fielder. Just 3 runs from this Saini over. 129/4

  • 17.4 Good length around off, drives through cover for a single.
  • 17.3 Length ball around off, worked towards point for a single.
  • 17.2 Another slower ball. Miller looks to pull but he is too early into the shot. He gets hit on the body.
  • Dwaine Pretorius is the next man in!
  • 17.1 OUT! No half century for Bavuma as Jadeja takes a sitter at long on. A slower one deceives the batsman again. Bavuma mistimed a few shots in the last over as well and the pressure got better of him this time. This is a length ball outside off, Bavuma wants to drag it down the leg side and whip it over the mid-wicket fence. But he finds Jadeja at long on instead. A knock on the slower side by Temba.
  • Deepak Chahar is back into the attack.
  • 16.6 Full toss on the pads, Bavuma mistimes the shot towards the leg side and can only get a single. 126/3

  • 15.3 Floated ball on middle, Bavuma comes down the track and flicks it towards deep mid-wicket for a single.

  • 13.2 Full delivery on off, Bavuma drives it to point and takes off for a single. Ravindra Jadeja runs in from point and throws it towards the bowler's end but misses. Had he hit, Bavuma would have been out. Even the dive would not have saved him there.
  • 13.1 Starts with a short ball on off, Bavuma pushes it towards the off side.
  • Krunal Pandya is into the attack.
  • 12.6 On off, Bavuma pushes it towards deep cover for a single. 98/3

  • 11.4 Fuller around off this time, blocked towards point.
  • 11.3 Fuller one this time, pushed towards mid on. Bavuma wanted a run but was sent back. A decent effort from the fielder would've been the end of Rassie.
  • Rassie van der Dussen is the new man in!
  • 11.2 OUT! Indian skipper takes a stunner to send his counterpart packing. An absolute blinder from Kohli. Quinton de Kock was looking dangerous and India needed someone to do something special and who better than Kohli to do that. Saini bowls a back of a length ball, de Kock looks to pull but he is early into the shot and gets a top edge. The ball balloons high in the air towards mid off. Kohli runs to his left, gets closer to the ball and throws his hands to pluck it out of thin air. A great knock from QdK though.
  • 11.1 Good length ball outside off, pushed towards mid off for a single.

  • 9.3 Fuller one around off, driven towards long off for a single.
  • 9.2 Fumble from Iyer and they get an extra run and another one on overthrow. Good cricket from the two Proteas batters. Good length ball on the stumps, Bavuma drives it through point. It should have been just one but Iyer fumbles and allows an extra run. He then throws it to the bowler's end in a wayward manner. The ball goes towards mid-wicket allowing the batsmen to take another single. So what should have been a single, three runs have been taken.

  • 7.4 Another short ball down the leg side. QdK pulls it straight to fine leg for a single.
  • 7.3 Shortish one this time, worked towards square leg for a run.

  • 5.2 Length ball outside off, QdK makes room by shuffling towards the leg side and goes for the cut but gets a bottom edge and the ball goes towards Pant behind the wicket.
  • 5.1 In the air... but Kohli can't get there. Chahar bangs it on middle. QdK is rushed into the pull shot as he mistimes it towards long on. The ball goes high but evades the running effort of the Indian skipper. They pick a couple.

  • 3.3 Good length ball on middle, pushed towards mid-wicket gently and hared for a quick single.
  • 3.2 On the pads this time, pushed towards mid-wicket for a single. They were looking for a couple but decided against it.
  • 3.1 FOUR! QdK in some mood! He bags his fifth boundary in no time. Chahar starts the fresh over with a good length ball but outside off, de Kock cuts it between cover-point and through to the deep cover fence.
  • 2.6 A good ball to end the over. Good length ball outside off, Hendricks goes for the cut but is beaten by the inswing. A good ball to end the over from Saini but a good over for South Africa as thirteen runs have come off it. 24/0

  • Both the teams make their way out to the ground for their respective National Anthems. First up will be the National Anthem of the visitors and then for the home team.
  • South Africa (Playing XI) - Quinton de Kock (C/WK), Reeza Hendricks, Temba Bavuma (DEBUT), Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dwaine Pretorius, Bjorn Fortuin (DEBUT), Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje (DEBUT), Tabraiz Shamsi
  • India (Playing XI) - Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli(C), Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant(WK), Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Deepak Chahar, Navdeep Saini
  • Quinton de Kock starts by saying he is enjoying the captaincy responsibility. De Kock says that the senior members like him, Miller and Rabada keep sharing whatever they have learned over the years with the youngsters. Adds that while the side is full of the youngsters, they will be very competitive. Confirms that they have three debutants in the side.
  • Kohli says that the surface is hard and looking good to bat. He feels that the dew can come into play later in the second innings. Adds that Mohali being a chasing ground is one of the reasons why he is opting to bowl first. On reminded about the T20 match against Australia during World T20 in 2016, Kohli says that he remembers it well and it was one of the best matches he has been part of. Kohli reveals that Manish Pandey, KL Rahul, Khaleel Ahmed and Rahul Chahar are the players who miss out.
  • Toss - The home captain Virat Kohli flips the coin and his counterpart Quinton de Kock has called the wrong side. Kohli opts to chase the target.
  • After a no show at Dharamshala because of the rain, the T20 caravan has arrived in Mohali where the weather looks pretty good and we will be having some show from both the sides. The Men in Blue look far superior in the batting department. However, they have gone for a lesser experienced bowling unit as they have rested the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. With the T20 World Cup in sight, they have quite a few games to test their strengths in the bowling department. The visitors, on the other hand, have a new skipper Quinton de Kock leading a fairly young side. Along with the skipper, the Proteas will be highly relying on David Miller and Kagiso Rabada's experience. Interestingly, the Proteas have never lost a T20I game against the Men in Blue in India and they would look at that record going into the match. The hosts, on the other hand, would count on their experience and would believe that they can edge out the visitors to start their home season on a winning note. Welcome to our coverage of the 2nd T20I of the 3-match series. Pitch and Toss update in a while. Stay tuned...

India Vs South Africa Live Score (T20) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • That's all from this one-sided affair. We hope for a better contest come this Sunday when these two sides collide in the final T20I of the series in Bengaluru. Do join us at 1900 IST (1330 GMT) for all the action. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!
  • Indian skipper, VIRAT KOHLI IS THE MAN OF THE MATCH! Starts by reminding about the 2016 T20 match against Australia. Says that when you play like that and finish the game off, it's a great feeling. Tells that it was a slightly better pitch and the outfield was slightly quicker than that day and there was a good value for shots. On the new faces in the team, Kohli tells that they showed a lot of character to pull things back after a good start from South Africa. Counts that as positive signs. On his batting consistency, Kohli replies that it's the badge in front of his shirt, that is India and the pride to play for the country. Feels that adapting to different formats is nothing but all about the mindset. Mentions that if you want to take your team over the line, doesn't matter how, by hitting boundaries or running singles, you will find a way.
  • South African skipper, Quinton de Kock says that they got off to a good start but towards the latter end of the innings India bowled really well. Hopes to improve in the next game. On Temba Bavuma and other debutants, he replies that there was a lot of pressure on them, especially against India, who are world-class. On his bowling attack, de Kock replies that Rabada tried his best up front but didn't get the wickets unfortunately and with his pace, it was easier for the batsmen. On his own batting, de Kock tells that it was nice to get some time off after the World Cup and he was hungry to get runs and hopes to do even better in the next match.
  • Shikhar Dhawan gives a quick interview to Sanjay Manjrekar. Says that it was a good start for them and he was enjoying his batting. Feels it's good to get a good start to the home season and is looking forward to more of the same. On facing the South African quicks, Dhawan replies that they practice a lot against good pace in the nets and that's why they can counter the pace of the South African speedsters. Adds that it's a good feeling to hit the ball nicely. On his and Kohli's reaction on that Miller catch, Dhawan smiles and says that he always smiles irrespective whether he is out or not and in this case, he appreciated Miller's effort in that smile.
  • It was a listless performance by South Africa. Their batting, barring the knocks of Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma, showed little fight and when it came to defending a below par total, their bowlers faltered as well. They are the underdogs in this series but one expects a better challenge from the boys coming from the rainbow nation. Earlier, the Indian bowlers did a commendable job, especially in the middle overs, to stifle South Africa and that never allowed the Proteas the kind of finish they desired.
  • A walk in the park for India! They were never challenged in their run chase and scaled it down with utmost ease. It was a below par target and once the Indian openers provided a brisk start, the visitors were on the back foot. Virat Kohli and his buddy from Delhi, Shikhar Dhawan then capitalized on the start and their partnership of 61 runs put the chase on bed. After yet another flop show from Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer calmly played his part in the last stand to see off the chase with Virat Kohli.
  • 18.6 FOUR! Game over! India win by 7 wickets. Fuller ball on middle, Iyer hammers this down the ground and beats the long on fielder. A superb run chase from the Indians to go 1-0 up in the series.
  • 18.5 Flatter one around the pads, worked towards mid-wicket for a single.
  • 18.4 SIX! That should seal the game. On middle and leg, Kohli dances down the track and lifts this over the long on fence for a maximum. Just having some fun it seems is the Indian skipper. With the six, Virat Kohli has become leading run scorer in the T20 internationals.
  • 18.3 Fuller one on middle, Iyer goes back to hammer it over the long on fence but the ball takes an inside edge and rolls towards short fine leg and the batters take a run.
  • 18.2 Flatter one on the pads, worked through mid-wicket for a single by Kohli.
  • 12 runs needed now from 11 balls. Should be easy for India.
  • 18.1 Flatter one on off, Kohli pushes it back to the bowler. A dot ball.
  • 17.6 Back of a length ball outside off, Iyer looks to work it over the slip cordon but misses. 12 runs off 12 balls needed. 138/3
  • 17.5 Outside off, tapped towards point.
  • 17.4 Back of a length ball on middle, Kohli pulls it to deep mid-wicket for a single.
  • 17.3 Shortish ball around off, Kohli punches it to the covers.
  • 17.2 Length ball outside off, Kohli looks to guide it towards third man but gets a bottom edge to the keeper.
  • 17.1 SIX! On the pads, Kohli flicks it over the square leg fence for a maximum. Rabada's first ball to him and Kohli has hammered him for a six.
  • Kagiso Rabada comes back into the attack.
  • 16.6 Slower one on the middle stump line, Kohli works it towards deep mid-wicket and calls for a couple straightaway. But Iyer is slow in return and the two can't be taken. Kohli is livid. 131/3
  • 16.5 Fuller ball around off, Kohli drives well but finds the cover fielder.
  • 16.4 Shortish ball around off, Iyer guides it towards third man for a single.
  • 16.3 On middle, tucked towards mid on for a single.
  • 16.2 FOUR! Through point this time. Short ball outside off, Kohli rocks back and crunches the square cut. The ball races to the deep point fence.
  • 16.1 FOUR! Imperious from the skipper! Another half century from the Indian skipper. He just relishes during the run chases and he is proving that again. He loves Mohali, doesn't he. Good length ball outside off, Kohli makes room and punches it through the covers for a boundary. A top shot to get to his 22nd half century.
