  • So 161 to get, it should be an easy chase for England. Afghanistan will need to bowl out of their skin if they want to even make a fight out of this. Join us in a while for the second innings.
  • Ben Stokes is caught for a chat. He states it was a good performance from the boys on the field. Says the two warm-up games being so close to each other makes a difference when one comes back so well after the earlier defeat. When asked about fitness, Ben admits that their bodies might be a little tired as they have been playing cricket continuously now, talks about the Pakistan series. Reckons Adil Rashid's shoulder looks fine now. Feels that it was important for them to have an excellent start with the ball as Afghanistan are good early on with the bat. Signs off by saying it is vital to have a third spinner some days and it was nice to see Joe Root picking up wickets.
  • As for England's bowling, 7 bowlers were used by them. With Jofra Archer and Joe Root picking up 3 each. Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes were the others to get into the wicket column with one a piece. Overall everyone was good for England with the ball but they will be slightly disappointed not to restrict Afghanistan under 140.
  • After winning the toss, England skipper Eoin Morgan put Afghanistan to bat. The innings did not start brightly for the visitors. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Though opener Noor Ali Zadran got a good start he could not convert it. They lost half their side for 88. Mohammad Nabi then played a good hand with the tail and gave them something to bowl and took the total to 160.
  • Comprehensive performance with the ball from England. Though they will feel they should have restricted them under 150 but Nabi's 44 has taken Afghanistan over 150 and has given them something to bowl at.
  • 38.4 OUT! The foot is okay says the third umpire. He will remain with the soft signal and AFGHANISTAN END WITH 160 on board. What an excellent catch that is in the deep! This is brilliant from Bairstow. Not even 40 overs they have played. The last ball is a short one outside off, Nabi looks to cut but the ball flies off the top edge and to third man. Bairstow initially takes the catch just inside the rope but realising that he would lose balance, throws the ball in the air, takes a step out before coming back in to complete the catch coolly. Well done, YJB! Archer ends with 3 wickets.
  • Nabi is caught at third man by Bairstow. The umpire wants to check whether Bairstow has stepped on the rope and hence takes the decision upstairs. The soft signal is OUT!
  • 38.3 Good comeback! Archer sees Nabi back away and hence bowls a slower ball following the batsman. Nabi has to adjust and can only pat it away towards cover.
  • 38.2 FOUR! Top edged and four! Short ball on off, Nabi looks to pull this away but the ball goes off the top edge and flies over the slip region. Too fine for third man to come around.
  • 38.1 A length ball on top of off stump, defended back to the bowler by Nabi.
  • Jofra Archer is back on.
  • 37.6 FOUR! Smashed and smashed hard. Moeen bowls it full on off, Dawlat hits it hard straight. The ball deflects off the umpire's leg and goes to the long fence for a boundary. 156/9
  • 37.5 Moeen flights it on the stumps, Dawlat defends it off the front foot.
  • 37.4 In the air but safe. Dawlat takes the aerial route and lofts it over the bowler's head. The ball falls in no man's land and they get a couple.
  • 37.3 Outside off, Dawlat defends it towards cover.
  • 37.2 Floated on middle, Dawlat taps it back to the bowler.
  • 37.1 Tossed up on middle and leg, Nabi milks it to long on and gets a single. 150 comes up for Afghanistan with that single.
  • 36.6 SIX! Huge! Zadran gets down low on one knee and slogs this ball outside off over long on. Brilliant shot from the number 11. These are valuable runs being added for the last wicket. 149/9
  • 36.5 Leg spinner outside off, Zadran looks to drive this back to the cover fielder but misses as the ball turns away. Buttler fumbles behind the wickets.
  • 36.4 Flatter leg spinner on off, Nabi comes ahead to defend the ball but it goes off the inside edge. A quick single is taken as the ball rolls towards the leg side.
  • 36.3 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 36.2 The batsman dances down the track and does well to block the ball towards cover by Mohammad.
  • 36.1 Stifled appeal but no movement from the umpire. A flatter leg spinner outside off, Nabi looks to paddle this but fails to put bat on ball. He gets hit on the pad and it runs fine on the leg side. No run though. The quiet appeal is turned down.
  • 35.6 This time finds the man at cover. 142/9
  • 35.5 FOUR! What a shot from Dawlat. He has taken everyone by surprise there. Moeen bowls it full outside off, Dawlat smashes it through mid off for a boundary.
  • 35.4 Outside off, Dawlat leaves it alone.
  • 35.3 Unnecessary this. Tossed up on off, Nabi taps it back to the bowler. Moeen looks to flick it onto the stumps but misses and they take a run.
  • 35.2 Outside off and short, Dawlat punches it to sweeper cover for a single.
  • 35.1 The batsman has punched the ball off the backfoot.
  • Moeen Ali to continue...
  • 34.6 Flatter outside off, Dawlat slaps it to sweeper cover and keeps the strike. Bold decision this to take the run of the last ball. 136/9
  • 34.5 Flighted on off, Dawlat blocks it off his front foot.
  • 34.4 Plays a premeditated paddle sweep to the leg spinning ball outside off. It goes towards short fine leg and they take a run.
  • 34.3 On the pads, Nabi turns it fine of fine leg and gets a couple.
  • A slight stoppage in play as the physio comes out to have a look at Nabi who got hit on the neck on the previous ball while attempting to sweep. The umpire decides to take Drinks as well! England are right on top here having picked up wickets at quick intervals and they have just one more to pick up for them to bowl out Afghanistan. Nabi is still out there though and he is the only hope for the Asian side to get anywhere close to a respectable total.
  • 34.2 Ouch! That must have been hurt. Leg spinner pitching on off, Nabi looks to sweep it against the spin. He misses and the4 ball goes through the glove and hits him on his neck. He holds his neck in pain and this halt will call for drinks.
  • 34.1 Leg spinner pitching on off, Nabi looks to defend but gets an inside edge onto his pads.
  • Adil Rashid comes back on with a change of ends.
  • 33.6 Floats it on off, Nabi nudges it to mid on and takes a quick single to keep the strike. 132/9
  • 33.5 Tossed up on middle and leg, Dawlat does well to stroke it to mid on and takes a single.

  • 32.5 A high full toss on the hips, turned away to square leg by Zadran. A single is taken.
  • 32.4 The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball to cover.
  • The last man in is Dawlat Zadran.
  • 32.3 OUT! Aftab Alam has thrown it away and he did not need to. He just had to give strike to the more experienced player and better batsman at the non-striker's end. A flatter one outside off, Aftab comes down the track and looks to cut the ball away but it goes off outside edge of the bat and lobs in air. The backward point comes a little in to take the easiest of catches. One wicket away now England from bowling out the Asian side. Root has picked up 3 meanwhile!
  • 32.2 Fired in quicker on middle, Nabi eases it down to the ground to long on for a single.
  • 32.2 Leg spinner gone wrong, goes down the leg side. Wided by the umpire.
  • 32.1 Short outside off, cut away to deep cover for a single by Alam.

  • 31.5 On the stumps, Aftab defends it off the front foot.
  • 31.4 Now takes a single by punching it through covers.

  • 31.1 Flighted on off, Alam drives it to cover.
  • 30.6 Takes the risk of taking two and gives the strike to Alam. Floated on off, Nabi drives it beautifully through covers. The sweeper cover gathers it and Nabi unselfishly takes two. 115/8
  • 30.5 Flighted on middle, Nabi drives it back to the bowler. Moeen dives to his right and stops the ball.
  • 30.4 Now calmly punches it to mid on.
  • The ball seems to have lost shape after that hit from Nabi. The fourth umpire is seen running in with the box of balls.
  • 30.3 SIX! Second of the over and Nabi has decided to take on Moeen. He gives it air and bowls it slower outside off, Nabi gets on one knee and thrashes his sweep over the mid-wicket fence. It is a short boundary on that side but that went 3 rows back and would have been a six anywhere in the world. He hit it so hard that we will have to take the new ball.
  • 30.2 Now hits it hard but straight to mid off.
  • 30.1 SIX! Don't even bother looking that is six the moment it left the bat. Brilliant use of the feet. Nabi comes down the track and whacks this tossed up ball on off over long off for a biggie.

  • 28.4 Ali fires a yorker in on middle, Aftab keeps this ball out somehow by getting his bat down on time.
  • 28.3 Fired in outside off, driven hard to cover by Aftab. Does not get the placement on that well-time shot.
  • 28.2 Alam comes ahead and defends this ball flighted outside off.
  • 28.1 The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball back to the bowler.
  • 27.6 Alam looks to pull this short ball but times it really poorly off the higher part of the willow. The ball goes to mid-wicket for a single who has a shy at the bowler's end. Misses. Cheers in the crowd as Afghanistan get to 100! 100/8
  • 27.5 Another flatter one on middle, defended back to the bowler watchfully.

  • 25.2 Short outside off, Aftab cuts it to the man at point.
  • 25.1 Starts with a short ball outside off, Nabi strokes it to long off for a single.
  • Adil Rashid to have a go with the ball now.

  • 24.5 Another leg spinner on off stump, Alam pats the ball towards cover.
  • Aftab Alam is the new man in.
  • 24.4 OUT! Two wickets in two balls. Rashid Khan departs first ball. Root has his second wicket. A flatter leg spinner on the off stump line, Rashid backs away to cut but the ball flies to the right of slip off the thick outside edge. Stokes there takes a really smart, fast-reaction catch! He has a surprised smile on his face and with good reason as well. He cannot believe how he has taken that one himself. Anyway, Afghanistan in deep, deep trouble here!
  • Rashid Khan walks out next to bat.
  • 24.3 OUT! Hardly in the frame. Flighted ball outside off, Nabi strokes it through covers. The sweeper cover comes in and gathers it. They complete the two but take on the arms of Jonny Bairstow. He throws it at the keeper's end. The throw is a very good one. Buttler whips the bails off quickly. The square leg umpire takes it upstairs. Replays roll in and confirm that Najibullah Zadran was well short.

  • Mohammad Nabi is the new man in.
  • 23.5 OUT! The sixth one goes down! That is straight down the throat of the long on fielder. The second wicket of the over! A flighted ball outside off, Naib takes the invitation to hit it over long on but fails to get it over the fielder. He hits it straight and the ball does not have the strength to clear the ground. Stokes runs to his left and takes a smart catch. Afghanistan in massive trouble here, throwing their wickets away really.
