  • So 176 is the target for Chennai. It won't be an easy task against the likes of Rashid and Bhuvneshwar, but the hosts have the batting attack to do it and the pitch looks a good one to bat on. Chennai's reply is not far away. So stay tuned.
  • Jonny Bairstow is caught for a chat with Darren Ganga. He says that he loved playing in the League this season and it was a very good experience. States that having confidence is very crucial and playing up top without any pressure was the key. Admits that it has been fantastic batting at the top with David Warner. Reckons that it will be a tight game and says they have a good bowling attack which can restrict the opposition. Feels that the seamers will be crucial and if they can restrict the early run flow, they have a good chance. Feels quite happy for Manish Pandey to come back into the squad and get the runs.
  • Chennai will be pleased with how they finished the innings. Despite that early breakthrough, they couldn't capitalize and got taken for a lot of runs by the Warner-Pandey duo. Though, the fact that they got wickets towards the end at crucial junctures and gave away just 41 runs in the final 5 overs, should provide some momentum. Everyone was a bit on the expensive side in the Chennai bowling line-up, in which Harbhajan took 2 wickets and Chahar took the remaining 1.
  • It's a good score on the board, but you get the feeling that Hyderabad won't be exactly happy with that. They couldn't really accelerate in the death overs, which didn't allow them to get close to 190. Being asked to bat first, Hyderabad lost Bairstow early but Warner and the returning Pandey were on song. The duo made a century stand between them and scored their respective fifties as well. Warner got dismissed, but Pandey kept the fight going and remained unbeaten on 83. Just the fact that post Warner's dismissal, even Shankar got out after getting a start, would have hurt them a bit as they couldn't finish as well as they'd have liked.
  • 19.6 Yes he can. Excellent running though! Slower around off, Manish Pandey hits it towards long off. The batsmen look for two and they get it as Yusuf responds swiftly. 8 off the final over and Hyderabad finish with 175/3 from their 20 overs.
  • 19.5 Low full toss. Almost a yorker on middle, Yusuf manages to get his bat down and get a single. Can he finish it off well here?
  • 19.4 Two more. Pathan does well to slap this length ball back past the bowler. Faf from long off moves to his right and cuts it off with a tumbling effort. Nicely done.
  • 19.3 Low full toss outside off, smacked through the covers for a couple of runs.
  • 19.2 Terrific bowling. Right in the blockhole. Could have been a run out. Superb all around from Bravo. Fires it full and outside off, Pathan digs it out to the left of the bowler. Bravo moves, a little ahead as well, turns and has a shy at his end seeing Pandey come out. The throw misses and the non-striker survives.
  • 19.1 Full delivery attacking the stumps, almost a yorker, Pandey slogs it off the inner half through the mid-wicket area. A single is collected.
  • Yusuf Pathan is the new batsman in.
  • 18.6 OUT! Finally Chahar gets the reward for bowling a great over here. Slower ball on middle, Vijay Shankar looks to go over mid-wicket but does not time it well and the ball goes straight to Jadeja in the deep. He takes a simple catch and Vijay Shankar's innings comes to an end. 7 runs and a wicket of the penultimate over. 167/3
  • 18.5 FOUR! Shorter delivery on off, Shankar pulls it to square leg. Imran Tahir runs in from fine leg but cannot stop it.
  • 18.4 Dropped! This is a rare sight. You hardly see Raina dropping catches but he has dropped one on this occasion. Slower and fuller outside off, Pandey looks to go over covers but mistimes it. Raina running backwards gets to the ball but the ball gobbles out of his hand. He should have taken that one.
  • 18.3 Fuller on middle, Shankar mistimes his loft over mid-wicket. It falls short of the fielder and gets a single.
  • 18.2 Another dot! This is worth in gold at the moment. First a yorker and now a good bouncer. Shankar is caught by surprise. He tries to pull but misses.
  • 18.1 Excellent from Chahar. Knuckle ball which is a yorker as well. Pandey cannot do much but just jam it out and take a single..
  • Deepak Chahar is back into the attack.
  • 17.6 Slower one outside off, Pandey hits it to covers and takes a single. 9 off the over. 160/2
  • 17.5 Follows it up with a single. Full on off, Shankar nudges it to long off and gets to the other end.
  • 17.4 FOUR! Excellent shot! Full outside off, Shankar gets on his back foot and hits it over covers for a boundary.
  • 17.3 Yorker on off, Pandey does well to jam it out and get a single.
  • 17.2 Quicker one on the pads, Vijay Shankar looks to flick but misses and the ball goes towards the square leg region off his pad. They steal a leg bye.
  • 17.1 Full on middle and leg, Pandey looks to go big but gets an inside edge onto the pads. It goes towards the off side for a run.
  • Dwayne Bravo is back into the attack.
  • 16.6 Slower through the air on leg, Shankar milks it wide of long on and gets a brace. 151/2
  • 16.5 On the pads, Manish flicks it to the on side and gets to the other end.
  • 16.4 Floated on middle, Vijay nudges it to long on and rotates the strike.
  • 16.3 Tossed up on off, Pandey strokes it to cover and takes a single.
  • 16.2 SIX! Short and punished. Imran Tahir bowls it way short and Pandey takes full toll of it and pulls it over mid-wicket for a maximum.
  • 16.1 Tossed up on middle, Pandey comes down the track and milks it wide of long off and gets a couple.
  • Strategic break. Chennai have got the wicket of David Warner but Manish Pandey is still out in the middle and is looking very good. He is joined by Vijay Shankar. Hyderabad will hope that Pandey can bat through the innings and take them to a score close to 190. Chennai, on the other hand, will look to get another couple of wickets and restrict them under 170.
  • 15.6 Tossed up on off, Pandey plays it towards covers for a run. 138/2
  • 15.5 Floated delivery on off, Vijay plays it towards the off side and takes a quick run.
  • 15.4 Flighted delivery on middle, Shankar defends it off the back foot.
  • 15.3 Tossed up on off, Shankar keeps it out.
  • 15.2 Floated on middle, Shankar flicks it through mid-wicket. The batsmen get two runs.
  • 15.1 It was tossed up just outside off, Shankar looks to defend but gets beaten due to the away turn on this one.
  • Ravindra Jadeja is back into the attack.
  • 14.6 In the air..but in no man's land. Tossed up outside off, Manish Pandey stretches out and looks to hit it over the bowler's head. He top edges it and it falls way short at mid off. The man comes in from long off which allows them to get a couple. 134/2
  • 14.5 Tossed up on off, Shankar drives it towards point for a run.
  • 14.4 Floated delivery on middle, Shankar tucks it to short mid-wicket.
  • 14.3 Flighted delivery on middle, Shankar defends it off the front foot.
  • 14.2 SIX! That was six the moment it left the bat. Flighted ball on middle and leg, Shankar takes the aerial route. There is a man at long on but Shankar hits it so well that the man cannot do much but just watch it sail over the fence for a maximum.
  • 14.1 Floated on off, Pandey guides it towards third man for a quick single.
  • Imran Tahir is back into the attack.
  • 13.6 Flatter around off, Pandey guides it towards third man and keeps the strike. 124/2
  • 13.5 Shorter on off, Shankar punches it towards cover and gets to the other end.
  • 13.4 Direct hit and Pandey could have been a goner. Flighted on the stumps, Vijay Shankar flicks it towards fine leg and looks for two. Manish Pandey responds quickly and they go for it. The fielder has a shy at the bowler's end but misses.
  • Vijay Shankar is the new batsman in.
  • 13.3 OUT! Warner is gone! Harbhajan comes back into the attack and gets rid of the dangerous Australian. This is huge. The crowd erupts. The bowler comes from around the wicket and provides a lot of flight to this. It lands on off and turns away with some extra bounce. Warner stays leg side, looks to go big downtown but misses and in the process, his back leg is dragged out. Seeing this, Dhoni, lightning as ever, whips the bails off in a flash. The 115-run stand comes to a close.
  • 13.2 Tossed up on off, Warner plays a reverse sweep over short third man. It falls in no man's land. The batsmen get two runs.
  • 13.1 Floated on middle, Warner flicks it through mid-wicket. The batsmen get two runs.
  • Harbhajan Singh is back into the attack.
  • 12.6 Play and a miss. Quicker outside off, Pandey looks to play it but misses. 116/1
  • 12.5 Not Out1 Pandey survives. Shorter on the bidy, Warner is taken by surprise. He looks to pull but gets a top edge on it. They run the first one hard. The batsmen then look for a second. Faf du Plessis gets quickly onto the ball. Warner and Manish Pandey are half way down the track and Manish Pandey sends him back. The throw at the bowler's end is not the greatest one. Jadeja takes the bails off but Warner is in and then he throws the ball at the keeper's end. Dhoni there dislodges the bails. The umpire goes upstairs and replays show Manish Pnadey was in.
  • APPEAL FOR RUN OUT! It has been referred upstairs. Manish Pandey was the danger man and the throw from Faf was at the keeper's end.

  • 11.4 Flighted delivery on middle, Pandey punches it towards mid on for a run.
  • 11.3 Tossed up on middle, Pandey defends it off the back foot.
  • 11.2 Fifty for David Warner. What a season he is having. He has continued his form and not let his foot off the gas. His second consecutive fifty. On the pads, Warner flicks it to square leg to get to his 43rd fifty in the League. Also, the 100-run stand comes up for this pair.
  • 11.1 Tossed up delivery on middle, Pandey hits it over mid on for a single.
  • 10.6 Follows the boundary with a single. Smart batting. Good length ball on the pads, Pandey flicks it away to the on side and keeps the strike. 103/1
  • 10.5 FOUR! Great way to get to his 13th fifty of the League. He has looked absolutely stunning tonight and he has justified his selection in the team. The fine leg fielder is inside the circle, Bravo bowls it short on the body, Pandey manages to hit his pull wide of the fielder to get to his fifty.
  • 10.4 Good length ball on off, Warner plays it uppishly towards point and gets a single.
  • 10.3 Slightly slower outside off, Warner swings his bat at it but misses.
  • 10.2 Fuller on middle, Pandey strokes it to long on and gets a single.
  • 10.2 WIDE! The pressure gets to Bravo. He misses the line with the slower one and bowls it down the leg side. Pandey looks to flick but misses. Wide signalled.

  • 7.3 Length ball outside off, Pandey plays it towards point and rotates the strike.
  • 7.2 In the air but safe. Slower bouncer from Bravo. Warner is taken by surprise. He plays a half-hearted pull shot. Luckily for him it falls wide of Bravo. Warner looks for a quick single. Bravo gets to the ball and cannot collect it cleanly allowing them to complete the single with ease. Bravo is furious with himself. He knows Warner would have been in all sorts of trouble had he collected the ball cleanly.
  • 7.1 Bravo starts with a good length delivery outside off, Warner flat-bats it but straight to mid off.
  • Strategic Break! Bairstow's loss hasn't affected the visitors much, as Warner and Pandey have looked set and are playing their shots well. Chennai started well, with Harbhajan getting the first breakthrough, but haven't been able to capitalize since then. This next phase of play will be important for both sides. • Ravindra Jadeja is into the attack.

  • Manish Pandey is the new batsman in.
  • 1.3 OUT! Just the start Chennai wanted. Harbhajan strikes in his very first over and the crowd here in Chennai is going bonkers. Quicker and straighter outside off, Bairstow looks to cut but gets an outside edge to the keeper. Dhoni takes the catch and goes up in celebration. Bairstow does not wait and starts walking. Huge, huge blow for Hyderabad and the dangerous Bairstow walks out without troubling the scorers.
  • 1.2 Good turn on this. Flighted on middle. It is an off spinner, Bairstow shoulders arms to it and it flicks his thigh pad on its way to Dhoni.

Informs that the team will miss Kane Williamson but hopes that David Warner and Jonny Bairstow can continue their good form. Tells everyone that there is no worry regarding the form of the middle order batting. Mentions that Kane Williamson and Shahbaz Nadeem are out of this one and Shakib Al Hasan and Manish Pandey come into the team. On changes, Dhoni informs that Harbhajan Singh comes in for Shardul Thakur. Continues to say that Bhajji's experience will help them a lot. Reckons that the shot selection needs to be better, and chasing tonight will give his batsmen the chance to assess the conditions and hopefully do better.
  • TOSS - Chennai win the toss and elect to field first.
  • Pitch Report - Darren Ganga is the pitch expert for tonight. He says that the spinners will be important here as there is more spin on offer here than any other pitch. Informs us that there is no grass on the wicket but there will be moisture. Mentions that the last game played at this venue, Chennai scored 175 on this pitch and he believes it will be down to the execution of the batsmen.
  • Welcome to match 41 of this edition's Indian T20 League, where Chennai host Hyderabad. Both sides come into this one on the back of a contrasting run. The hosts are on a 2-game losing run, whereas the visitors are on a 2-game winning run. Chennai are back home after 4 away games on the trot and will look to continue their domination at home and win their 5th game here. Hyderabad meanwhile, travel for the first time after 3 games. They will miss the services of their skipper, Kane Williamson, who has flown back to New Zealand due to personal reasons but will be back for the next game. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead the side in his absence. It will be interesting to see whether Hyderabad replace him with Mohammad Nabi or slot in someone like Shakib Al Hasan or Martin Guptill. Stay tuned for updates

Chennai Super Kings Vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Live Score (T20) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • That's all from us for this one. The next game takes place between Bangalore and Punjab at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, at 2000 local (1430 GMT). Do join us for that one. Cheers!
  • Man of the Match, Shane Watson, says he was well due for runs and thanks Stephen Fleming and MS Dhoni for backing him when he wasn't in good form. Feels that he always knew a big innings was going to come, was just a matter of keeping his head right and believing in himself. Credits Bhuvneshwar Kumar as he thinks he's a clever bowler who executes his plans well.
  • Chennai skipper, MS Dhoni, says it's important to give an individual a few games to find some form and they did that with Shane Watson, which paid dividends tonight. Continues saying that when a player like Watson gets going, you know what you're getting. States that the fact that different individuals are performing in different games is quite pleasing to see and also credits his bowlers for doing well this season. Wittily says that if he mentions the secret out loud (about how Chennai qualify for the playoffs every time) then he will be bought in the auctions. Reckons that the support staff should get the real credit for the side's success as they do a lot of work behind the scenes. On his back injury, Dhoni says that he feels much better now, though he still has some mild stiffness.
  • Harbhajan Singh is up next to chat and he says that it's nice to be out in the middle and tells that not just him, but his whole family was sick and he feels great to be back playing. Laughs and mentions that the boys were just testing their heart by taking it till the last over and feels the game should have been finished in the 19th over. States that he is pleased to see Shane Watson get runs tonight as he is one of the senior players and last year he guided them to the title. Adds that he is happy that they are at home for the next few games as they know the conditions well here and they don't have to travel.
  • Hyderabad skipper, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, says that there was a little bit of dew but reckons that did not trouble them while bowling. On Rashid Khan's performance tonight, Bhuvi says anyone can have an off day and credits the way Shane Watson hit the ball and feels it is not easy to hit Rashid and he is not too concerned about it as it was just an off day for him. Bhuvneshwar feels that they have the players to do the job when there are other players missing but were not able to do so in this game. Says that there are away games now and they need to play well to qualify for the playoffs. Mentions that captaincy helps him understand his game better and learn more about the game.
  • Almost nothing worked for the Hyderabad bowlers tonight. They were taken to the cleaners as Watson went absolutely berserk. There were some good performances, but when a bowler like Rashid Khan gives away 44 runs, you know it's not a good night. Sandeep Sharma too was very expensive as he finished with figures of 3.5-0-54-1. Bhuvneshwar, Khaleel and Shakib held their ends, but the leakage from the other two bowlers was far too much. Manish Pandey earlier shined on returned to the XI with a splendid unbeaten 83, along with David Warner scoring a fifty, but the fact that they couldn't finish well with the bat wasn't something that helped their cause. It's a night they'd like to forget and forget fast.
  • The chase began with the hosts losing du Plessis early, but Watson and Raina went on the offensive and added 65 runs between them. The Australian continued on with Rayudu after Raina's dismissal and put on 80 with him, in quick time, which more or less finished things off. He missed out on a ton by just 4 runs, and it went real close in the last over, but Jadhav put the finishing touches and got his side over the line.
  • A close finish in the end, closer than they would have liked, but Chennai go back to the top of the table with this win. The surface was a good one for batting, despite it aiding the spinners, but when Watson is in the kind of form he was tonight, none of that matters. It was quite similar to the 2018 Indian T20 League final - the big Aussie going big and sealing the title against these same opponents.
  • 19.5 That's the game! CHENNAI WIN BY 6 WICKETS! The victory's come with a bit of luck, but they'll take it all the same. Jadhav smashes this full delivery right back at his partner. Bravo tries to get out of the way but it deflects off his foot towards the stumps at his end. It ricochets off them towards covers.
