  • Right then, a target in excess of 150 on a turning deck is always dicey. Mumbai also possess quality in their spin department and their pacers cannot be ignored as well. Chennai, minus Faf du Plessis and MS Dhoni, have to bat really well to scale down this target and avoid their first loss at home. A riveting chase coming up shortly, don't go too far away...
  • Mitchell Santner admits that it is very hot and humid. Reckons that Mumbai have got a pretty competitive total but also hopes that Chennai chase it down. Is happy with the fact that the pitch turned, given that they do not turn much in New Zealand. On his limited opportunities this season, Mitchell puts it down to the quality of the squad and puts his belief in doing the basic things right and making the best of every chance. On Dhoni's fitness, MS says that captain MS has a bit of a stiff back but is fine. Adds that there is enough batting without him to chase this total down and notes down the keeping of wickets intact in the Powerplay. Says that Mumbai's bowling line-up is world class and believes that Chennai will have to work hard. Hopes that the dew sets in tonight as well, given that there has been plenty of it in the past few days. But does not feel that Mumbai will be affected by it too much.
  • This pitch is tailor-made for spinners. Harbhajan Singh was very tidy at the start while Mitchell Santner choked Mumbai in the middle overs. Imran Tahir had an off day along with Deepak Chahar but the efforts of the Turbanator and the Kiwi meant that the yellow team didn't lose too much ground. Here is Santner giving an interview to Michael Slater...
  • Exceptional bowling at the death by Chennai to restrict Mumbai to a par score. A very underwhelming finish for the touring team. They were going superbly in the Powerplay and were in a decent position at the halfway mark. But then, Evin Lewis and Krunal Pandya departed in quick succession and that was soon followed by the wicket of Rohit Sharma, who struck his maiden fifty this season. Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard did try hard but failed to give the kind of finish they usually do.
  • 19.6 Too full in length and outside off, Pandya squeezes it out through point for a couple of runs. Mumbai end on 155/4!
  • 19.5 SIX! This one has disappeared! Slower delivery again from Bravo but it's on a fuller length outside off, Pandya shows his muscle power there as he deposits it over long on for a biggie. 150 up for Mumbai.
  • 19.4 FOUR! Yet another boundary down the ground. Bravo misses his mark and it's a low full toss around off, Hardik gives it the full whack of his bat and smacks it down the ground for a boundary.
  • 19.3 Smartly bowled. Bravo sees the batsman moving across on the off side and bowls it fullish and wide outside off. Hardik swings his bat at it but it goes underneath.
  • 19.2 Bravo eyes the yorker but ends up slipping a low full toss outside off, Pollard strokes it down to long off for a run.
  • 19.1 FOUR! Boom! Bravo delivers it slower and fuller outside off, Pollard throws all his power behind his shot and spanks it over the bowler's head for a boundary.
  • 18.6 Left alone thinking it to be a wide? Short in length and wide outside off, Hardik allows it through. Only 10 from the over given the caliber of batsmen in the middle. Chennai would take it. 138/4
  • 18.5 Short in length on off, slower in pace, Pollard pulls it to deep mid-wicket for a run.
  • 18.4 Full and sliding down the leg side, Pollard tries to flick but misses. It goes off his pads to square leg and they cross a couple of times. Given as runs. Maybe, some bat involved.
  • 18.3 FOUR! Not in control but still a boundary. Chahar delivers a short ball again, on the slower side, Pollard drags his pull shot behind square leg and there is no protection in the deep.
  • 18.2 IN THE AIR... SAFE! Slower delivery deceives the batsman. It's on the shorter side outside off, Hardik stands back to play the pull shot but it takes the top edge and flies towards mid off. Raina puts in a sprint from extra cover but it falls wide of him. The Chennai skipper rolls over the ball and seems to have hurt himself. He is in some pain but then recovers quickly. One run has been added to the total.
  • 18.1 Pandya plays a pull shot to this short delivery. They manage to come back for the second.
  • Deepak Chahar returns. 3-0-36-1 so far.
  • 17.6 A yorker wide outside off, just inside the tramline, Pollard allows it through. 6 from the over, a good one at this stage particularly. 128/4
  • 17.5 Driven through mid off by the batsman. They pick up a single.
  • 17.4 On a length and outside off, it's whacked to deep cover-point for a couple of runs.
  • 17.4 Wide! Slower one but way wide outside off, it's a yorker, Pandya allows it through.
  • 17.3 Driven through the covers by the batsman. One run added to the total.
  • 17.2 Beaten comprehensively. A slower delivery outside off, Kieron walks across the stumps to play at it but is early into his shot. It beats the inside edge and rolls behind. Bravo and Pollard exchange stares. A friendly one.
  • 17.1 The score reads 123/4! Slower and fuller outside off, it's driven through mid off for a run.
  • Dwayne Bravo is back on. 2-0-12-0 so far.
  • 16.6 Beaten! Spinning away from the batsman, Kieron winds up for a big shot, probably over the bowler's head but misses. Rayudu collects the ball and appeals but nothing from the umpire. The keeper looks at his skipper standing at second slip who takes it jokingly and turns down the offer. Santner has bowled out with exceptional figures, 4-0-13-2! 122/4
  • 16.5 Pollard has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 16.4 Fullish and on off, driven back to the bowler.
  • 16.3 Edgy! Tossed up ball around middle and off, Pollard pushes inside the line and gets it away off the outside half. It rolls wide of second slip.
  • Kieron Pollard arrives. Suresh Raina has employed two slips for the big man.
  • 16.2 OUT! Body blow to Mumbai, Rohit Sharma is dismissed. Santner follows the batsman down the leg side with a flat and full delivery, Sharma aims to go downtown but fails to generate enough power or timing behind his shot. Murali Vijay in the deep at long on takes the simplest of catches. A fine knock by the Mumbai skipper but he would have liked to bat till the end.
  • 16.1 Flatter and shorter, Pandya punches it down to long on for a run.
  • 15.6 SIX! Make it a 16-run over from Tahir. Tossed up ball on middle, Rohit kneels and slog sweeps it over mid-wicket. Shorey in the deep tries his best to jump and catch it but the ball sails over his head. 121/3
  • 15.5 The batsman works it down the leg side. They pick up a single.
  • 15.4 Forces a full ball back to the bowler and Tahir does really well to stop it in his followthrough.
  • 15.3 Oohhh...nearly deceived the batsman there. Sharma is early into the charge and Tahir senses that. He shortens his length and serves it outside off. Sharma adjusts well to play it out safely towards short third man for a run.
  • 15.2 FOUR! Two in two for Rohit! Tahir alters his length and goes too full this time. It's flat and on middle, Sharma takes his front leg forward and heaves it over mid-wicket. This time Shorey sprints across to his left but fails to keep it inside the rope.
  • Rohit is not happy with his bat. Matthew Hayden reckons that with the death overs approaching, the skipper might be looking to go in for a lighter bat.
  • 15.1 FOUR! A good attempt in the deep by Shorey but to no avail. A long hop on middle and off, Rohit gets back and pulls it to deep mid-wicket. Shorey runs across to his right in the deep, puts in a dive but fails to pull it back.
  • 14.6 Loopy and on off, Sharma drives it through extra cover for a run. 105/3 with five overs to go, can Mumbai add another 70-75 from here? 105/3
  • 14.5 Flighted on off, Rohit has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 14.4 Finally connects. It's been driven superbly through the covers. One run added to the total.
  • 14.3 Beaten again! This one is wide outside off, Pandya reaches out for it to play the cover drive but fails to meet the ball. It once again spins past his blade.
  • 14.2 Beauty of a delivery! Floated delivery, full and on middle, turning away sharply, Pandya tries his best to defend but it curls past the outside edge. There is definitely some spin on offer.
  • 14.1 Quicker and fuller on the pads, Hardik tries to flick but closes the face of the bat early. It takes the leading edge and rolls to short third man.
  • Strategic break. Mumbai were going great guns but all of a sudden they have encountered a roadblock. Two wickets in quick succession and Chennai have got an opening here. They would try to build on this and limit Mumbai to as much as possible. But the presence of Rohit and Hardik in the middle along with the intimidating sight of Kieron Pollard sitting in the dugout will be bothering them. Let's see how the innings ends...
  • 13.6 Around off, pushed back to the bowler again. 103/3
  • 13.5 Full and outside off, watchfully pushed back to the bowler.
  • 13.4 Outside off, punched towards cover.
  • 13.3 Full and outside off, pushed through mid off for a run.
  • 13.2 Around off, worked through mid-wicket for a single.
  • Hardik Pandya walks in.
  • 13.1 OUT! Krunal holes out now! 2 wickets in the space of 7 balls. Identical to the fashion in which Lewis got out. Full and around off, Pandya gets down to slog sweep but does not middle it properly. Mitchell Santner is waiting for it at deep mid-wicket and all of a sudden Mumbai are in trouble...
  • Imran Tahir returns.
  • 12.6 Walks down the track and forces it through square leg for one. Top over from the Kiwi, two runs and a wicket from it! 101/2
  • 12.5 Krunal has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 12.4 Maiden fifty for Rohit Sharma this season, 35th overall. He reaches there with a single through covers. The Mumbai skipper would target to make it big!
  • 12.3 Sharma has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 12.2 Tries playing the inside-out shot but fails to middle his shot. It takes the leading half of his blade and rolls to mid off.
  • Krunal Pandya is in next, probably to maintain the left-right combination.
  • 12.1 OUT! Lewis holes out! Nothing much wrong in the shot selection but the West Indian fails to middle it properly. Flighted delivery, landing full on middle, this one is right in the slot and Evin decides to heave it over the leg side. But it catches the inner half of his bat and flies straight down to Dwayne Bravo at deep mid-wicket. The 75-run stand is broken and Chennai would like to build on this.
  • 11.6 Terrific delivery. Plants his yorker right in the slot, Sharma cannot do much and just digs it back to the bowler. 99/1
  • 11.5 FOUR! Well played! Short in length and outside off, Rohit quietly waits on the back foot and at the last moment ramps it down to third man for a boundary.
  • 11.4 Big inside edge! A length ball around off, angling back in, Rohit tries to heave it over the leg side but gets a thick inside edge onto the pads. Could have easily dragged it on.
  • 11.3 On a length and outside off, Lewis plays it towards covers for a run.
  • 11.2 On a length on middle, Sharma plays it towards mid on for a run.
  • 11.1 Bowls a full toss on leg, Lewis flicks it in front of square leg for a run.
  • 10.6 Flatter and shorter on middle, turning back in, Lewis goes back and punches it down to long on for one. 8 from Santner's first over. 92/1
  • 10.5 A low full toss on middle, Sharma pushes it back to the bowler. It brushes his hands and deflects towards mid on. They cross as the bowler himself runs and collects the ball.
  • 10.4 FOUR! Flatter and fuller on off, Rohit makes room and stretches forward before swatting it through backward point. The fielder in the deep chases across to his left but the ball wins the race.
  • 10.3 Floated delivery on off, Sharma plays it to point.
  • 10.2 Floated delivery on middle, Sharma sweeps it towards fine leg. The batsmen pick up a couple.
  • 10.1 Beaten! Terrific start from the Kiwi! Gets his ball to drift into the batsman and then it turns away from around off. Rohit gets forward to defend but it beats the outside edge.
  • Mitchell Santner is into the attack now, replacing Imran Tahir.
  • 9.6 Again on the fuller side and outside off, Sharma drives it through covers for a single. 5 runs have come from the over, a quiet one after a couple of expensive ones. 84/1
  • 9.5 Full on off, Lewis drives it towards covers for a run.
  • 9.4 Full and outside off, Sharma drives it through covers for a run.
  • 9.3 Short and outside off, Lewis cuts it through point for a run.
  • 9.3 WIDE! Bowls it wide outside off, Lewis chases the ball but misses it.
  • 9.2 On a good length on off, Lewis pushes it back towards the bowler.
  • 9.1 Bravo starts with a length delivery wide outside off, Lewis shoulders his arms to this one.
  • Strategic Break! Good going from Mumbai in spite of losing Quinton de Kock early. Rohit Sharma has looked in fine touch and Evin Lewis is also finding his range now. Chennai would hope to dislodge this stand quickly as it can hurt them really bad. Here comes Dwayne Bravo into the attack.
  • 8.6 Played to the point region by the batsman. They pick up a single. 14 from the over, 28 in the last two. 79/1
  • 8.5 FOUR! Bang! Tahir goes quicker, it's flat and full around off at 102.7 kph, Lewis stands his ground and whips it down the ground for a boundary as the long on fielder runs across to his right.
  • 8.4 SIX! Lewis takes on Tahir! The leggie is very full with his length, it's around off and the West Indian powerhouse has clubbed it over the bowler's head for a maximum. 50-run stand comes up!
  • 8.3 Mishit! Loopy leg spinner on off, Sharma tries to play the slog sweep but fails to connect properly. It finds the top half and then rolls down to long on for a run.
  • 8.2 Googly on the shorter side, wide outside off, Lewis punches it off his back foot to sweeper cover for one.
  • 8.1 Flatter and shorter on off, it's punched off the back foot to sweeper cover for a run.
  • 7.6 Short in length and outside off, Lewis rocks back to play the square cut but finds the backward point fielder. 14 from Harbhajan's final over has spoiled his figures just a bit, still a great effort from the Turbanator, 4-0-23-0. 65/1
  • A slip in place for the left-hander.
  • 7.5 Harbhajan is forced to go flat and serves it quicker on off, Rohit moves back and turns it to mid-wicket for one.
  • 7.4 SIX! Sharma is on the charge! Once again he dances down the track to a full ball on off and muscles it straight over the bowler's head for a biggie.
  • 7.3 Quicker one outside off, Sharma pushes inside the line and gets it away off the outer half to short third man.
  • 7.2 SIX! High and handsome! Tossed up ball around off, turning back in, Rohit runs down the track and dispatches it over wide long on for a biggie. Sweetly struck.
  • 7.1 Flighted delivery on off, Lewis taps it down with the spin to cover-point for a run.
  • 6.6 It's been driven superbly through the covers. They pick up a single. 51/1
  • 6.5 Full and flighted outside off, pushed through covers for a single.
  • 6.4 Appeal for an lbw! Flighted delivery around leg, Lewis goes down to sweep but misses. It ricochets off his pads and they cross. The replays find that it pitched outside leg.
  • 6.3 Knocks a full ball down to long on for a run.
  • 6.2 Driven through the covers by the batsman. One run added to the total.
  • Hang on! On 5.6 we are shown the replays and the Ultra Edge detects an outside edge. No one appealed there, strangely. Hmm...
  • 6.1 Too full in length outside off, Rohit goes down low and deflects his paddle sweep to fine leg for a run.
  • Imran Tahir is into the attack.
  • 5.6 Beauty of a delivery. Slower through the air, gripping and spinning outside off, Lewis pushes inside the line and misses. 4 from the over, 45/1 in the Powerplay. 45/1
  • 5.5 Played to mid-wicket by the batsman. No run.
  • 5.4 Flighted and on middle, worked on the leg side but straight to mid-wicket.
  • 5.3 Driven towards the mid on region. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 5.2 Play and a miss! Full and flighted outside off, Rohit goes down on one knee to slog sweep but gets hit on the gloves. It's deflected on the grille of his helmet. No harm done.
  • 5.1 Flat and short around leg, Lewis turns and eases it past Tahir at short fine leg. The South African gives the chase and then puts in a slide to pull it back. They take three runs.
  • 4.6 FOUR! Wow, what a shot by Sharma! Chahar is on the shorter side again but the line this time is on middle and leg. Rohit swivels on the back foot and pulls it behind square leg for a boundary. 16 from the over, Chahar proving to be expensive today. 41/1
  • 4.5 Nicely played by the Mumbai skipper. Rohit fetches a slower short ball from outside off and pulls it down to deep mid-wicket for a couple of runs.
  • 4.4 Helps it off his pads towards wide short fine leg for one.
  • 4.3 FOUR! Lucky for Lewis. He nearly dragged it down. Short in length and outside off at 120.7 kph, Lewis stands back to pack a punch through covers but it catches the inside edge and runs past the keeper for a boundary at fine leg.
  • 4.2 FOUR! Nicely played! Short in length around middle and leg, Lewis glances it off his hips and it speeds in front of square leg for a boundary.
  • 4.1 Slower delivery, shortish and outside off, Sharma calmly runs it down to third man for one.
  • 3.6 Full and around leg, Lewis plays the sweep this time, connects as well but it goes straight to short fine leg. 25/1
  • 3.5 Shorter and flatter this time, around off, Lewis punches it off his back foot but finds the cover fielder.
  • 3.4 Another appeal for an lbw! Not given and the umpire indicates it's high. Tossed up ball on middle, Lewis once again fails to sweep and is hit high on the pads. The appeal is not entertained.
  • 3.3 Shout for an lbw! A tossed up delivery, landing just outside off and turning away a bit, Lewis gets down and across to sweep but misses. They appeal but the impact is outside off.
  • 3.2 A little quicker through the air this time, the line is just outside off and Sharma taps it down in the direction of short third man for a run.
  • 3.1 Slower off spinner on middle, Rohit flicks it off his pads but finds square leg.
  • 2.6 Shortish around leg, Lewis tries to pull but misses and it goes off his thigh pad to short fine leg. 11 runs but a wicket from it as well for Chennai. 24/1
  • 2.5 Beaten first up! Pace is up this time as Chahar delivers a full length ball outside off at 133.4 kph, Lewis tries to play an extravagant drive through covers but fails to connect.
  • Evin Lewis is the new batsman in.
  • 2.4 OUT! Slower delivery consumes de Kock this time. Well bowled by Chahar. He dishes it on a short of a length on middle at 116.2 kph, Quinton is early into his attempted horizontal bat shot and gets a big top edge. It flies straight up and Rayudu walks ahead to take the catch behind the stumps. Early setback for Mumbai as they lose their in-form opener.
  • 2.4 Wide! Short and down the leg side, de Kock shapes up for the pull shot but then pulls out.
  • 2.3 A delivery on the pads, de Kock misses out on his flick shot. He is hit on the pads. That was a knuckle delivery and the variation in pace deceived the batsman.
  • 2.2 FOUR! Delightful shot! Width on offer outside off, it's on a length and de Kock drives it crisply through covers. Once it beats the fielder inside the circle, it's always a boundary. 10 from the first two balls...
  • 2.1 SIX! De Kock has dismissed it from his presence. Chahar serves it short and on middle, Quinton turns inside the crease and powers his pull shot over square leg for a maximum.
  • 1.6 Some spin there again. Turning in from outside off, Sharma flicks but finds mid-wicket. 4 from the over! 13/0
  • 1.5 Short again, this one is spinning away too, de Kock goes back to punch it through covers but mistimes it down to long off. Two is the call but they will only get a run.
  • 1.4 Floated and full on middle, Rohit gently eases it down to long on for a run.
  • 1.3 Arm ball this time. It lands on the fuller side on middle and skids back in. De Kock tries playing through the line off the front foot but it takes the inside half of his blade and rolls to wide mid on for a run.
  • 1.2 Short in length and outside off, de Kock plays the square cut but finds the point fielder.
  • 1.1 Bowls the first delivery on the flatter side. A touch short on middle, Rohit helps it in the gap at mid-wicket and rotates the strike.
  • Harbhajan Singh to bowl from the other end. A slip in place for him.
  • 0.6 A bit short in length and outside off, Sharma punches it off his back foot to the left of the cover fielder and they scamper across for a brisk run. 9 from the first over, a good start for Mumbai. 9/0
  • 0.5 Play and a miss! Chahar bowls an outswinger on the shorter side outside off, Rohit has a lazy waft at it but fails to make any contact.
  • 0.4 Gorgeous drive from de Kock's bat now. Full in length and outside off, the South African drives it through extra cover and it races through. Vijay gives the chase and pulls it back near the fence. The third umpire has a look and finds it to be fine. One run is saved.
  • 0.3 Fine delivery to the southpaw. Good length ball landing on off and moving back in to cramp the batsman. De Kock keeps it out safely on the off side.
  • 0.2 Width on offer this time, the length is on the shorter side, Rohit reaches out for it and guides it down to third man for a run.
  • 0.1 FOUR! Mumbai are away in style! Chahar overpitches it outside off, Rohit leans into the drive and crunches it square of the wicket on the off side for a boundary.
  • Time to get underway! Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock are the openers for Mumbai. It's a jam-packed stadium and the crowd is making a lot of noise. Deepak Chahar to begin proceedings. One slip in place. Here we go...
  • Quinton de Kock gives a quick interview and says they played a lot of cricket last week and the 5-day break was much-needed. He is expecting a big crowd for this game. Tells that he is working hard on his fitness and trying to keep things simple. Laughs and says that he will be looking to target Imran Tahir if the opportunity comes.
  • Mumbai XI - Quinton de Kock(WK), Rohit Sharma(C), Evin Lewis (in for Ben Cutting), Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Anukul Roy (in for Mayank Markande), Rahul Chahar, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah.

  • Mumbai skipper, Rohit Sharma says that they would have chased as well because of the dew in the second half of the game. Adds that they now have to post the score that they can defend. Mentions that the first half of the season was a bit up and down for them but now they know what exactly they have to do. States that his boys are getting together nicely and hopes for a good performance tonight. Considers it a challenge to play cricket at this venue. Informs about the two changes - Ben Cutting and Mayank Markande are replaced by Evin Lewis and Anukul Roy (on debut).
  • Chennai skipper, Suresh Raina says that they will bowl first as the wicket looks the same and dew will be a factor later on. Adds that they have done well as a batting unit and just need to do the process right. Confirms that MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja are not well, and Faf du Plessis is not playing. Mitchell Santner, Dhruv Shorey and Murali Vijay are the replacements.
  • Toss - The coin falls in favour of Suresh Raina and CHENNAI WILL FIELD!
  • Pitch report - Daren Ganga is inspecting the surface and he starts by mentioning that this is the same deck where Bangalore got all out for 70 and Hyderabad made 175 in the last game which was later chased down by Chennai. Ganga feels that it will be easier for batting and advises the batsmen to play straight early on. Reckons that both teams are likely to play three spinners.
  • BIG NEWS - MS Dhoni is down with fever and won't be playing tonight. Suresh Raina will be leading Chennai.

Chennai Super Kings Vs Mumbai Indians Live Score (T20) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • Right then! 16 to Chennai, 14 to Mumbai. Both are almost there in the playoffs. It was a poor evening for Chennai and they will look to bounce back from this one and seal their place in the final four. We now approach the weekend and on a rare occasion, there is just one game. Rajasthan host Hyderabad in Jaipur and match number 45 begins at 8 pm local (1430 GMT). ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
  • Victorious Mumbai skipper ROHIT SHARMA HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. Now, he smiles and says that in hindsight, it was better that Mumbai lost the toss, as he was looking to chase. But then, he stresses that games are not won based on tosses and you have to bowl or bat well irrespective of the situation. Praises his bowling unit for this resounding win. On Rahul Chahar, Sharma says that the leggie knows what he exactly needs to do and is very clear in his mind, being confident as well, which makes it easier for him as a captain. On his first half century this season, Rohit says that it is pleasing but adds that he had been hitting the ball well in the previous games and hence, he believed that one day, he will get a decent score. Admits that Dhoni's absence is a big boost to the opposition because he has been around for so many years taking Chennai out of a hole many a time. Smiles sheepishly and says that his sickness is uncontrollable and lauds his team. Does not want to take anything for granted and says that Mumbai are still not into the playoffs as yet. Adds that they have three games coming up - two at home against Kolkata and Hyderabad and one at Eden Gardens against Kolkata again. Wants to make use of those home games and seal their place in the final four.
  • Krunal Pandya gives a quick interview. Says that the pitch was on the slower side and he just wanted to bowl in the right areas. States that when the pitch is helping you, as a bowler you just need to hit the right areas. On being asked whether he wanted to bowl his fourth over, Krunal tells that he wanted to but eventually what matters is team winning and we got that. On his batting, Pandya replies that they have wickets in hand and he thought to go after the bowlers to pressurize them but some days it pays off, some days it don't. Smiles and says that he would love to pack this wicket and take it to the Wankhede. Mentions that they now know the conditions and it will help them if they have to come here for the first qualifier.
  • Chennai skipper, Suresh Raina admits that they didn't bat well as they kept losing wickets and they have to take responsibility as a batting unit, given how well their bowlers have been performing. Says that 155 was chasable, rues the fact that they lost too many wickets in the Powerplay and didn't rotate the strike much. Is not happy with the batting as they have been losing a lot of wickets of late. Hopes to improve in future games. Mentions that they need to regroup and see what they can do. Wants his batsmen to be more relaxed in their approach and hopes that things will fall in place.
  • Sensational bowling performance from Mumbai. Malinga was expensive but picked up 4 wickets. Krunal and Bumrah - what a deadly combination - 6-0-17-4. Really broke the back of the home side. Their biggest defeat at home, their lowest home total as well. A night to forget...
  • 5 batsmen from numbers 2 to 6 dismissed in single digits. Tells you what a poor batting performance it has been. At 66/6, it was virtually game over, with Vijay being the 6th casualty. Bravo and Santner tried to fight back a bit but that only delayed the inevitable. Eventually, the game was done and dusted in the 18th over.
  • Let us take all our focus to the toss. Should Raina have batted first? But then, even Rohit said that he wanted to chase. Perhaps because of the expected dew factor. But that never came. Mumbai huffed and puffed to 155 but Chennai could not even huff. They were choked right from the start and could never breathe.
  • No Dhoni, no Midas magic. That is what it seems looking at this Chennai side. Two matches without him, two big losses. This could be a massive dent in their confidence.

Who knows, it might help them later on in the net run rate. Deepak Chahar is the new man in while Jasprit Bumrah is the changed bowler.
  • 15.6 OUT! Caught and bowled! Bravo departs and with that, possibly the last hope of the table-toppers. It has been a barricade of slower balls in this over from Malinga. • 15.1 Outside off, punched through the covers for a single. There is a shy at the bowler's end and Santner dives in. The throw misses the stumps and direct hit could have been interesting.

The ball dips on its way to Suryakumar Yadav at point but he dives to his right and takes a splendid catch. He immediately celebrates but Vijay is not sure. Bravo, his partner, immediately shakes his head. The umpires confer and then give the soft signal as out. Replays take a long while and eventually, everyone feels that the ball has carried. Vijay has to depart and Chennai sink further...
  • Is that a catch? Bravo at the non-striker's end does not think that has carried. Suryakumar Yadav is already celebrating. The umpires get together and the soft signal is..... OUT. Let's find out...

  • 8.5 Run out chance missed! Short in length outside off, Shorey cuts it to point and his partner is eager for a run. Dhruv is ball-watching initially and then realizes that Vijay is mid-way down the track. The point fielder returns a poor throw and Chahar then tries to flick it onto the stumps. Misses completely and Shorey survives. Poor cricket all around.

It's served around off at 98.5 kph and the ball skids off the surface. Jadhav goes deep inside the crease to play the square cut but it's too close to his body. Krunal comes steaming in from the deep to attempt for the catch, dives forward but it falls just short of him. A well-disguised arm ball at 99.1 kph, landing on middle and skidding off the surface after kissing the turf. • 3.5 Pandya angles this one in for Vijay. Murali Vijay defends it.
  • 3.4 SIX! All timing, no power. Fullish and outside off, Vijay strides forward and lofts it nonchalantly over the bowler's head for a biggie. A well-timed maximum sometimes looks better than the muscled one.
  • 3.3 FOUR! Vijay is timing his shots superbly! Pandya serves one on the pads and Murali flicks it beautifully behind square leg for a boundary. Glorious.
  • 3.2 A back of a length angling in, Vijay just keeps it away. He calls for a run but Rayudu denies it.

  • Suresh Raina walks in.
  • 0.5 OUT! Watson is gone! A nothing delivery. Malinga has bowled many great deliveries to remove the batsmen and this has to be one of the very few poor ones of which he has hunted down a victim.
