  • On the whole, 196 should not be too difficult for Bangladesh. But if Windies bowl well and take a few quick wickets, it will be interesting to see the response. Join us back at 5.15 pm local (1115 GMT).
  • Superb bowling from Bangladesh. They concentrated on just bowling consistent lines and lengths and did not over-attack. They were not at their best on the field, dropping 4 catches, yet, it never seemed like they got frustrated. Mehidy and Shakib, who opened the attack, were economical while Mustafizur and Mortaza picked up 6/65 amongst themselves in 20 overs combined. Rubel also would have had a great outing but he lost the plot at the death. His first 8 overs went for 32 but his final 2 yielded 29.
  • Poor batting effort from the Windies, yes, but one cannot fault them totally. They tried everything. First, they looked to settle in and then play their shots. Could not get much runs. Then, they tried Hetmyer's approach - slogging wildly and get quick runs, did not muster anything. It was during the Chase-Paul stand that the batters actually got used to the pitch but by then it was too late.
  • The openers took their time, biding out the spinners with Shai Hope keeping the innings steady. However, the collapse started at the fall of Bravo's wicket. The second wicket fell at 64 and the Windies then slipped down to 127/6, before a breezy 51-run stand between Roston Chase and Keemo Paul took them close to 200.
  • The Windies will be disappointed to say the least - 195 is not what one expects after electing to bat. But the fact that they were 127/6 with not many batsmen left to come will make them feel a bit better. Overall, they were consumed by the two-paced deck.
  • 49.6 Another dot to finish. It is another cutter, outside off, Oshane backs away, looking to pull but misses again. WINDIES FINISH ON 195/9!
  • 49.5 A length ball outside off, Thomas swings hard but misses.
  • Two balls left. One wicket in hand. Oshane Thomas is the last batsman.
  • 49.4 OUT! Caught and bowled! Number 9 is down. The off cutter from the Fizz, Bishoo backs away and looks to cut but the ball barely reaches him and the batsman realizes late. Tries to bail out of the shot, aiming to defend but it is too late. The ball goes off the toe end of the bat, back to the bowler who gets across to his right and takes a good catch.
  • 49.3 Outside off, Roach pushes through the line and gets a thick inside edge through fine leg. A single taken.
  • Devendra Bishoo walks in at number 10, replacing Paul.
  • 49.2 OUT! Fantastic catch from Mehidy! A slower bouncer, around off, Paul swings hard but only manages a top edge. The ball swirls in the air and Mehidy circles under it at point. For a second, it seems like he will miss it. But in the end, he keeps his eyes on the ball and catches it efficiently!
  • 49.1 A length ball around off, Roach looks to slash but gets a top edge towards cover. Mortaza runs back but cannot quite get there. A single taken.
  • 48.6 FOUR! What a shot! Rubel has seen two sides of the coin in this game. His first 8 overs had figures of 1/32. His last 2 have gone for 29. A length ball on middle, Paul gets down on a knee and whips it over mid-wicket, one bounce and into the ropes! 193/7
  • 48.5 Around leg stump, whipped uppishly towards deep square leg. Does not carry to Shakib in the deep. A single taken.
  • 48.4 Full on middle, swung over mid-wicket for a couple.
  • 48.3 THAT IS A GRUBBER. Fired outside leg, seeing the batsman back away, Roach swings at that full ball but misses. That barely bounced.
  • 48.2 Backs away to the leg side, Hossain follows him, bowls a slower one and Keemo can only push it wide of mid off for a single.
  • Mini-conference going on. Everyone is in Rubel's ear. Tamim, Shakib, Mortaza...
  • 48.1 SIX! HUMONGOUS! Rubel is being taken to the cleaners at the death here. A length ball, that too at this stage, asking for trouble, begging to be hit and it is hit. Swatted miles over mid-wicket. Paul moves to 23 from 25 balls.
  • 47.6 Outside off, pushed to the off side. 179/7
  • 47.5 Another play and a miss. On a length outside off, Roach feels for the ball but it shapes away from him and beats the outside edge.
  • 47.4 Outside off, a play and a miss.
  • 47.3 Another short ball, this is pulled with total ease to deep mid-wicket for a run.
  • Kemar Roach walks in at number 9, replacing Chase. Still, 16 balls left. Can the Windies get to 200?
  • 47.2 OUT! Caught! London looking, Tokyo turning, Dhaka beckoning. A short ball, around off, Chase swivels and looks to pull. But the ball comes ever so slightly and goes off the top edge. It goes straight up in the air and Mehidy Hasan at backward point takes it nicely. Decent innings from Chase under the circumstances.
  • 47.1 Outside off, pushed through point for a single.
  • 46.6 FOUR! PLUNDERED! Short and wide outside off, Chase flashes hard and gets it past point for a boundary! Brings up the 50-run stand as well. 15 runs from the over! 177/6
  • 46.5 The batsman has nudged the ball fine down the leg side. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 46.4 Another couple, this time it is through mid-wicket.
  • 46.3 Down the leg side, tucked behind square leg for a couple.
  • 46.2 SIX! Great shot! Full and outside off, Paul gets underneath this one and sends it sailing over mid off. Clears the fence as well!
  • 46.1 On middle, pushed back towards the bowler who rushes to his right but fumbles. Mid on backs it up.
  • Rubel Hossain is back on. 8-0-32-1 so far.
  • 45.6 A length ball outside off, a wild slash and a miss. 162/6
  • 45.5 Outside off, flayed through point for another single.
  • 45.4 Full and outside off, hammered down to long off for one more.
  • 45.3 Outside off, now Paul steers it towards third man for a run.
  • 45.2 Outside off, dabbed to third man for a single.

  • 44.2 The batsman works it down the leg side. They pick up a single.
  • 44.1 Outside off, played through point for a single.
  • 43.6 SIX! Ho ho ho! Shut the press down totally now! The Windies are trying to do something different now. They have been stalled so far and they are trying to break free. A boundary after 56 balls. A length ball on middle, Chase swings it high and handsome over mid-wicket! 152/6
  • 43.5 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 43.4 Another couple. Wow. Don't start the press for a while. A length ball, around middle, RC works it wide of long on and gets another brace.
  • 43.3 STOP THE PRESS. Finally something other than a single, a wicket or a dot ball has been recorded. On middle, Chase pushes it wide of long on and comes back for the second.
  • 43.2 A soft inquiry for LBW. Turned down. On a length, around off, coming in, Chase misses his flick and is hit on the pads. Sliding down the leg side.
  • 43.1 Around off, patted to the off side for a quick single.
  • Mashrafe Mortaza is back on. 9-0-19-3 so far.

  • 41.5 The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot. One run added to the total.
  • 41.4 Played to the point region by the batsman.
  • 41.3 A soft appeal for a caught behind. Nothing in it. On a length outside off, moving away, Paul looks to dab it to third man but the ball bounces more and beats the outside edge.
  • 41.2 LEADING EDGE, SAFE! Nearly a wicket for the Fizz. The off cutter, pitched around middle, goes away, Chase looks to flick but is done in by the lack of pace. The ball takes the leading edge and flies over cover. A single taken.

  • POWERPLAY 3 time. A bit of extra insurance for the fielding side, with 5 fielders allowed outside the 30-yard circle. Mehidy Hasan returns.
  • 39.6 On middle and leg, flicked away, but straight to short mid-wicket. 129/6
  • 39.5 Excellent stop by Liton again. Full on middle, Chase pushes it towards long on but Das dives to his left and makes a terrific stop. Keeps the batsman to a single. Had that gone through, that was a boundary.
  • 39.4 The batsman has attempted to put bat on ball - but fails.
  • 39.3 On middle and leg, flicked through the leg side for a run.
  • Keemo Paul walks in at number 8, replacing Samuels.
  • 39.2 OUT! In the air and taken! Windies' last hope, probably, departs. Samuels is gone. A length ball, around middle, Marlon backs away a touch and looks to go over the top. But the ball bounces a touch low and goes off the bottom of the bat. Still, the connection is decent. Liton Das is stationed at long on and for a moment, it seems like it will elude him. But he leaps at the right time to take the catch. The ball wobbles a bit in his hands but he does not let it or his team down. Samuels stands over there thinking about the shot and the catch. Then trudges off. Big, big hole now for the Windies.
  • 39.1 Outside off, punched off the back foot for a single.

  • 36.2 Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • Roston Chase comes on to bat now.
  • 36.1 OUT! Captain gets captain! Mash strikes immediately on return. A length ball outside off, Powell looks to go over the top but cannot hit it cleanly. The ball goes off the toe end of the bat and lobs to mid off where Liton Das takes the easiest of catches.
  • Skipper Mashrafe Mortaza is back.
  • 35.6 A tad short, Marlon punches it off the back foot towards the bowler. 119/4
  • 35.5 Full and wide outside off, Samuels slashes but misses.
  • 35.4 Full and outside off, driven through mid off for a single.
  • 35.3 Had no idea about that. Another arm ball, pitched around leg, Rovman went back to flick but missed and the ball went past his pad and missed the leg stump.
  • 35.2 A bit wider outside off, driven towards long off for a single.
  • 35.1 Oohhh.... the arm ball around off, Samuels goes back to punch but the ball keeps coming in with the arm. Skids through and almost goes past the bat, just about hitting the willow on the bottom part as Samuels backs away and plays a shot through the covers after getting cramped for room.

  • 28.2 On middle and leg, flicked straight to square leg.
  • The skipper is in. Rovman Powell has walked in.
  • 28.1 OUT! BOWLED! Hetmyer is out of here. Horrible ball to face, if you are a batsman. Nothing much he could have done about that. Mehidy does the basics right by keeping it in line of the stumps. Now, the length is short and hence Shimron goes back to play it through the off side. But to his horror, the ball stays low and skids beneath his bat. Crashes into the leg stump. Certainly not the easiest of pitches to bat on but the Windies need at least a 100 more.

  • Marlon Samuels is the new batsman.
  • 20.4 OUT! STUNNER BY TAMIM! He's back from an injury layoff and this catch shows that he's fully fit. Mortaza serves an off pace delivery and lands it on a length outside off. Bravo's eyes lit up after watching the width and he goes hard at it. But it takes the top edge and flies towards wide long off. Tamim sets off from the deep, rushes across to his right, realizes that a dive is the need of the hour and pulls off a beautiful catch.

  • DRINKS BREAK. Action happening so rapidly. When was the last time one saw 19 overs being bowled before the first Drinks break in an ODI? Bangladesh surprised everyone by opening the bowling with two spinners and even though they managed to pick just a solitary wicket, the runs have been curtailed. Windies though, will back themselves to do some power-hitting in the later overs but they need to plan it out. In the next 20-odd overs, they at least need to get 4 runs an over and then get 100 in the last 10. Wickets in hand are a must.

  • 13.6 Now the left-hander follows suit. 49/1
  • 13.5 Played to the point region by the batsman. One run added to the total.
  • 13.4 FOUR! First boundary after 42 balls! A rare bad ball, short and down the leg side, Hope tickles it fine. Long leg is very square and cannot get there!

  • 5.2 Full and outside off, driven straight to cover.
  • 5.1 IN THE AIR, SAFE! Strange shot from Hope. There is a long off in place, still he looks to go over the top. Comes out of his crease, is nowhere near the pitch of the ball and skews his shot. • Bangladesh captain, Mashrafe Mortaza, says that Bangladesh have been going alright this year, especially in this format. Wants to finish this year well now. Adds that this is a very important game, the first one and wants to set the tone straight. On picking three seamers in the playing XI, Mashrafe says that in England, three seamers would be required, so the hosts are planning from now itself. On losing the toss, Mortaza says that chasing has been the forte. Then cheekily says that he is not sure what are the Windies doing and smiles when he is informed about the same.
  • Windies captain, Rovman Powell, says that the decision is based on the fact that the pitch looks a good one to bat on. On his captaincy debut, Rovman smiles and says that it is a great experience and wants to win this series. On spin being their weakness, Powell says that in the last few days, they have practiced a lot against spinners in the nets and hopes that it comes good in this game. On some players coming back into the side - like Carlos Brathwaite and Darren Bravo, Rovman is excited to see that experience in the playing XI.
  • TOSS - Time for the spin of the coin. Mashrafe Mortaza spins the coin, Rovman Powell calls Heads and it is a Head. WINDIES CHOOSE TO BAT.
  • PITCH REPORT - Tino Mawoyo doing the pitch report observes that it looks like a good batting surface. There is a bit of grass but it is well rolled over.
  • Bangladesh batting coach Neil McKenzie is pleased with the way the home side has developed so far. Admires the way the lower order is also contributing with the bat. Informs that in the last 5 matches, Bangladesh have had 7 different centurions in the white-ball matches, which is a good competition for spaces. Is very happy to welcome Tamim Iqbal back in the side but is happier that even in his absence, the others stepped up. On Zimbabwe's bowling comparison with the Windies', McKenzie says that the Rhodesians tested Bangladesh while the Windies stretched India in India, with the likes of Thomas and the spinners doing well, so does not want to take them lightly.
  • WEATHER - It is bright and sunny in Mirpur, with no forecast of rain.
  • Hello and welcome to the first ODI between Bangladesh and Windies in Mirpur. The hosts will go as the favourites in this encounter because they have their bases covered. Tamim Iqbal's return will boost them more. On the other hand, Windies would like to improve themselves in the ODI series. Carlos Brathwaite and Darren Bravo's return will boost them but they will again be without their regular captain Jason Holder. Rovman Powell will be leading the side. This is the favourite format of Shimron Hetmyer who will look to be all guns blazing. What's in store for us? Stay tuned.

Bangladesh Vs West Indies Live Score (ODI) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • Alright then. Did we see this coming? Bangladesh trouncing the Windies? Ummm... perhaps we did. This unit in Green is way too confident right now while the visitors are losing their competitive edge with every game they play. Can we see some more competitiveness in the next game? Join us for the second ODI on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 1 pm local (0700 GMT). ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
  • Victorious Bangladesh captain, Mashrafe Mortaza has been named the MAN OF THE MATCH. Feels that Windies are dangerous in this format and hence, is happy with his bowlers for keeping them quiet and not allowing the opposition to forge a partnership. On the ploy to open with spin, Mortaza says that he just wanted to spring a surprise, given the way the Windies collapsed against spin in the Tests. Praises Rahim, Liton and Shakib for playing well and being professional. On his upcoming 200th match in the third ODI in Sylhet, Mashrafe deflects the question away, saying that he has got other challenges in mind, stating that the second ODI is to be played first.
  • Windies skipper, Rovman Powell, admits that the toss was a big factor. Agrees that the batting was not great which brought about their downfall and hopes that there is a better performance in the next game. Scrutinizes that batsmen getting in did not make use of their starts. On the pitch, Powell says that he thought that the difficulty to bat would have been only for some time but got surprised to see that for so long. Credits the entire support staff and the seniors for helping him in his captaincy stint.
  • Should Powell have elected to chase? There was plenty of dew around and the bowlers were finding it difficult to grip the ball. Worth a thought if he does win the toss in the second game, which is at this same venue. As he impressed in India, Oshane Thomas rung the alarm bells here as well. But only in his first spell. After he was seen off, there was hardly any threat from the other bowlers. Please stay tuned for the presentation.
  • Perhaps Rovman Powell could have set attacking fields. Maybe, he might have got a couple of more wickets. Bangladesh were 2 down in Powerplay 1 but once the fielding restrictions were over, the Windies just spread the field, allowing a partnership to grow. Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das made full use of that, soaking in the early pressure and then the former used his experience to guide his side through, with help from Shakib.
  • 196 was never a massive target but the Windies could have made the victory a bit difficult. They dismissed Tamim and Kayes in the span of 5 balls but the Rahim-Das partnership pegged them back. And then, Shakib's cameo sealed the deal.
  • Easy peasy then. Won't say the hosts have won without breaking a sweat as losing two quick wickets would have put a doubt in their minds but eventually, the lack of a bigger target enabled them to cruise home.
  • 35.1 VICTORY FOR BANGLADESH! In a pretty convincing manner. Full and around off, Rahim comes forward to defend but the ball spins away, takes the outside edge and goes well wide of first slip. Backward point has some work to do before he can get to the ball and by that time, the required two runs are taken. BANGLADESH WIN BY 5 WICKETS WITH 89 BALLS TO SPARE!

  • 29.3 Full and outside off, pushed towards cover.
  • Mahmudullah walks in next at number 7, replacing Sarkar.
  • 29.2 OUT! That Drinks break has broken the concentration of Sarkar. Classic off-spinner's dismissal. Full and outside off, Soumya reaches out to push but the ball spins away, takes the outside edge and skipper Rovman Powell pockets a simple catch at first slip. Just delaying the inevitable. Only 21 more needed.
  • 29.2 WIDE. Fired down the leg side, Sarkar misses his flick.
  • 29.1 Full and around off, spinning in, worked through mid-wicket for a single.
  • DRINKS BREAK. Well, does anyone need this break right now? But such are the laws of the game. Just 23 runs more needed and Bangladesh are about to finish this off in a jiffy. Given the way Soumya is playing, it could be done and dusted with in the next couple of overs.
  • 28.6 Outside off, watchfully left alone. 16 from the over. 173/4
  • 28.5 SIX! Ho ho ho! This is even better! Thomas does not learn and goes shorter and quicker. Outside off, Sarkar leaps and upper cuts it over deep backward point!
  • 28.4 FOUR! Smart batting. Short and outside off, Sarkar arches back, uses the pace of the bowler and ramps it wide of square third man. 29 more needed now. Soumya moves to 13 from 10 balls and this stand is worth 21 from 15 deliveries.

  • 27.1 Full on middle, pushed towards long on for a single.
  • 26.6 Pushes this through mid on for one more. 153/4

  • 26.4 Outside off, chipped over cover for a couple. 48 more needed from 140 balls.
  • 26.3 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 26.2 SAFE. Full and outside off, Sarkar drives it towards mid off. He initially calls for a single but then sends Rahim back. There is a direct hit at the bowler's end and it is referred upstairs but no harm done to the home side.
  • And we have a run out appeal straightaway. Is Rahim safe?
  • Soumya Sarkar is the new man in at number 6, replacing Shakib.
  • 26.1 OUT! Caught behind! The captain has struck first ball. Can he produce some inspiration and get Windies back into the game? Not many runs to play with. A loose shot from Shakib. He was anyways playing in a manner to finish the game quickly and has eventually perished. Full and wide outside off, Shakib looks to drive but with his feet glued to the crease. An outside edge is induced and Shai Hope takes the simplest of catches. A breezy cameo from the former captain and one would guess that should be more than enough for a 1-0 series lead. Just 50 more needed from 143 balls.
  • Rovman Powell brings himself on.
  • 25.6 FOUR! AWESOME! Full and outside off, Rahim leans into this one and drives it through the covers! 146/3

  • 23.5 WIDE. Down the leg side this time, flick shot missed.
  • 23.4 Full and outside off, Shakib lofts it over cover for a single.
  • 23.3 What an imperious shot. Even before the ball was bowled, Shakib was standing outside his leg stump, daring the bowler to bowl at the sticks. What he got was a long hop. Cracked it through the covers for a couple.

  • 22.5 That is a cracking pull shot. But only for a single. The ball was pitched outside off and Shakib latched onto the short ball in a flash. Towards deep mid-wicket it went.
  • 22.4 Down the leg side, tickled fine for a run.
  • 22.3 Outside off, this is forced through point for a couple.

  • 21.1 TOP EDGE, SAFE AGAIN! Full and around off, Rahim gets down to sweep but the ball takes the top edge. Luckily for him, there is no man present at short fine leg. A single taken.
  • 20.6 FOUR! Another boundary! Even better from Shakib. The length is fuller and Al Hasan promptly drives it through mid on. The fielder is a bit wide and it beats him. Shakib moves to 13 from 11 balls and this is his third boundary. 105/3
  • 20.5 FOUR! Lovely shot. On a length outside off, Shakib punches it through the covers and gets a boundary. The stand is now worth 12 from 15 balls. 100 UP FOR BANGLADESH. Another 95 needed from 175 deliveries.
  • 20.4 Full and straight, driven back to the bowler.
  • 20.3 Full and around off, chipped uppishly down the ground, well short of mid on. A quick single is taken. The runs required are now down to double figures. 99 more needed from 177 balls.
  • 20.2 Full and around off, watchfully defended.
  • 20.1 Outside off, pushed towards point.
  • 19.6 Full and around off, driven straight back. 96/3

  • 19.4 The batsman works it down the leg side. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 19.3 Full on middle, pushed past the bowler towards long on for a run.

  • 19.1 Landed on middle, worked to the leg side for a single.
  • 18.6 Full and outside off, coming in, driven back to the bowler. 93/3
  • 18.5 FOUR! Quality shot. Dropped short, Shakib swivels and pulls it behind square leg. The good thing about that shot was that the ball was not in the air for a long time.
  • 18.4 Full and around off, coming in, pushed back to Paul again.
  • 18.3 Full and around off, watchfully pushed back to the bowler.
  • Shakib Al Hasan walks in at number 5, replacing Das.
  • 18.2 OUT! BOWLED! That is a poor shot. A nothing delivery, on a length, just outside off. Das however, tries to manufacture a pull shot, in a lazy manner. Just looks to whip without moving his feet and pays the price. Is nowhere near the ball and misses. The stumps are rattled. The 47-run stand is broken but Bangladesh need 107 more from 190 balls.
  • 18.1 Two leg byes. Full and down the leg side, Das misses his flick and the ball goes off his pads through fine leg.
  • 17.6 Fuller in length, watchfully kept out. 87/2
  • 17.5 Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 17.4 Around off, solidly defended.
  • 17.3 FOUR! Lucky this time. Full and around middle, Rahim looks to reverse sweep but the ball takes the top edge and goes over short third man to the fence.
  • 17.2 SAFE. The foot was dragged out but it came back in. Not quite sure whether there was a nick though. Plenty of drama. Full and outside off, Rahim came forward to defend but the ball spun away into Shai Hope's gloves. The bowler appealed and then started to celebrate as well but then realized that the keeper is not appealing for the catch. The captain now gets involved and has a chat with Hope and Bravo, who was at first slip. The latter two seem to indicate that they did not hear any noise and the review thought got aborted. But Hope did ask the square leg umpire about the stumping and it was referred upstairs. Replays show that the foot did come out but before Shai could affect the stumping, it came back in.
