  • 263 is the target! Afghanistan could not chase down 225 on the same wicket a few days ago. However, they aren't facing the attack of the same caliber as they did on that day but Bangladesh do have variety. The Afghans will have to bat really well if they are to chase this down. Do join us for the chase in a while.
  • The Afghanistan bowling was good in bits and parts! Mujeeb and Nabi were once again good. The former was the pick as he finished with a three-fer and only gave away 39 runs. Rashid once again failed to provide breakthroughs and also was expensive according to his standards. Naib was decent but Zadran did not bowl how he should on a slow wicket and hence, was on the expensive side.
  • Mosaddek says that this was not an ideal wicket to bat on, hence 262 is a challenging total. Praises Rahim and Mahmudullah for playing for the team. On his knock, Hossain says that he was just looking to hit every ball. On the deck, Mosaddek says that it will not be easy for the new batsman and he will need to take some time before playing his shots.
  • After being inserted, they opted to go for a new opening partnership as Liton Das walked out with Tamim Iqbal. It did not last for long though as the former was dismissed. Tamim and Shakib then steadied the ship. Rahim and Shakib continued the good work. Afghanistan did fight back though as they dismissed Shakib, who scored another half ton and Sarkar in quick succession but Rahim ensured he hung out there. He was a part of another useful stand with Mahmudullah. Despite the latter's injury, he did well and played as the perfect foil to Rahim. The wicket-keeper batsman fell 17 short of a ton but his innings ensured Bangladesh would get to a competitive score. Mosaddek's cameo though helped Bangladesh finish with a total which is slightly above par. The little man is up for an interview at the moment with Harsha Bhogle.
  • A very good batting effort by Bangladesh on this slow and low wicket! Remember, the star-studded Indian batting line-up scored only 224 on the same wicket. Surely, Bangladesh will be the happier side heading into the break.
  • 49.6 OUT! BOWLED! Perfect delivery to end the innings. This is at the base of the stumps, Mosaddek looks to dig it out but misses and the ball hits the timber. BANGLADESH END ON 262/7!
  • 49.5 Outside off, chipped down to long off for one.
  • 49.4 On a length outside off, Hossain looks to defend but the balls seams away, squared him up and goes off the outside edge through third man. A run taken.
  • 49.3 FOUR! Solid shot. Full and outside off, Mosaddek backs away and drives it wide of long off. Rashid Khan runs to his left from long off, slides but in vain.
  • 49.2 DROPPED! That is a shocker. Really shoddy effort. A slower ball, outside off, on a length, Saifuddin swings hard but is done in by the lack of pace. The ball takes the outside edge and goes towards point. It should have been a simple catch but two fielders get under it. One from short third man and Dawlat Zadran from cover. The latter leaps and in that attempt, puts it down. A single taken.
  • 49.1 A yorker to start. Right at the base of the stumps, it is jammed down to long off for a single.
  • Gulbadin Naib to bowl the final over. 9-1-48-1 so far.
  • 48.6 Looks to go big but the ball limps off the toe end of the bat towards long off. A run taken. 254/6
  • 48.5 Full and outside off, driven straight to mid off.
  • 48.4 Short ball, pulled towards long leg. The batsmen initially take just a single but Mujeeb running to his left from fine leg slips and the batters return for the second.
  • Mohammad Saifuddin walks in at number 8, replacing Rahim.
  • 48.3 OUT! Caught! Rahim departs now. He gets a standing ovation from the crowd. It has been a wonderful knock. Full and outside off, Rahim backs and looks to go inside out but mistimes it due to the slowness of the delivery. The ball goes off the outside edge, high in the air but lands safely (from Afghanistan's point of view) in Mohammad Nabi's hands at extra cover. Well played, Rahim. This total should be enough for a win.
  • 48.2 Drives this through mid off for a run.
  • 48.1 FOUR! Uppish but wide of short extra cover! Full and outside off, Mosaddek backs away and slices it wide of a diving cover for a boundary! 250 UP FOR BANGLADESH.
  • 47.6 Hossain flicks this flatter one off his pads to mid-wicket for a single. 246/5
  • 47.5 Rashid bowls a wrong 'un, Hossain looks to drive but gets beaten as he completely failed to pick the googly from Rashid.
  • 47.4 Huge shout for LBW! Turned down! Hossain this time looks to reverse sweep this tossed up ball from Rashid but cannot connect and gets hit on the pads. The Afghan players all go up in unison but the umpire feels it otherwise.
  • 47.3 FOUR! Hossain gets to the pitch of the ball and lofts this tossed up ball from Rashid over covers and the ball races away to the fence for a boundary. Useful runs for Bangladesh.
  • 47.2 Rashid tosses this one up outside off, Rahim punches this to covers and gets a single.
  • 47.1 FOUR! Rashid bowls a flatter one on the stumps and Rahim goes for a switch hit but gets a top edge. Once it cleared the fielder at short third man, it was heading for a boundary.
  • 46.6 A short ball, around off, Rahim looks to pull but misses and is hit on the pads. Dawlat appeals for LBW but the umpire moves away. Might have been an inside edge. The batsmen meanwhile take the single. 236/5
  • 46.5 The batsman was beaten and missed the line of the delivery.
  • 46.4 A short ball, down the leg side, Rahim looks to hook but misses.

  • 46.3 WIDE. Down the leg side, Hossain misses his flick.
  • 46.2 Outside off, a yorker in length, Mosaddek looks to steer it through third man but misses.
  • 46.1 FOUR! A short ball outside off, pulled over mid-wicket for a boundary!

  • 45.1 Full on middle, flicked through mid-wicket for a couple.
  • 44.6 The batsman works it down the leg side. They pick up a single. 220/5
  • 44.5 On middle, worked through mid-wicket for a couple again.
  • 44.4 Outside off, punched through cover for a brace.
  • 44.3 Safe as a house. Outside off, short in length, Mushfiqur cuts it through point. The batsmen go for the second. The throw comes in as a direct hit at the bowler's end and it is referred upstairs but replays show that Mossadek is in.
  • Direct hit. Referred upstairs. Looks like Mosaddek is in.
  • 44.2 Full and outside off, Rahim gets down and reverse sweeps this through third man. Comes back for the second.
  • 44.1 Full and outside off, watchfully defended.
  • Mujeeb Ur Rahman returns. 9-0-31-3 so far. Replays show that Rashid was arguing with Kettleborough. Or, the other way round. Kettleborough was telling Rashid that he cannot be appealing while running towards him.
  • 43.6 Hossain defends this flatter one outside off to point. 212/5
  • 43.5 Huge shout for LBW! Turned down! Looked close. Rashid bowls a flatter one on the stumps and Hossain looks to drive but gets hit on the pads, Rashid looks interested but the umpire thinks otherwise. The Afghan players decide against taking the review. Was it too high? Perhaps.
  • 43.4 Rahim pushes this to point and goes for a single.

  • Mosaddek Hossain comes in at number 7. He is no mug with the bat. Rashid Khan comes back on as well. 7-0-30-0 so far.
  • 42.6 OUT! Caught! Big, big breakthrough by and for the skipper. A short ball, slower in pace, Mahmudullah looks to pull but is early into the shot. Mistimes it and the ball limps towards short mid-wicket where Nabi completes the formalities. End of the 56-run association. 207/5
  • 42.5 Outside off, coming in, Mahmudullah backs away and looks to slice but misses.

  • 41.2 Mahmudullah tucks this tossed up delivery on his pads to backward square leg.
  • 41.1 Mahmudullah taps this tossed up delivery outside off to covers.
  • Please move! Oh dear. It is from the opposition. What is happening? Nabi gets ready to deliver the ball but is stopped by Mahmudullah. Reason? Hazrat Zazai, who is not playing this game, is walking across the sightscreen. Hazrat smiles.
  • 40.6 Played to the mid-wicket region by the batsman. 200/4
  • 40.5 Excellent communication and co-operation in the field. Fielding is not the strongest point of Mujeeb but he has done well here. Rahim turns this through square leg and charges through. The ball races away but Mujeeb runs to his left from fine leg, slides and then parries it to Rashid running from deep mid-wicket. Two runs taken. Or saved, rather. 200 UP FOR BANGLADESH.

  • 40.3 Full and just outside off, the batsman pushes to point and sets off for a single but is sent back.

  • 38.3 Outside off, a play and a miss.
  • 38.2 Overthrow, overthrow and then eventually third! The crowd is going bonkers for Mahmudullah. What commitment. First, a sweep shot is played by Rahim towards mid-wicket. It should have been just a single but a slow-moving Mujeeb challenges Mahmudullah and he agrees to accept the challenge. Returns for the second. Then, the throw from Mujeeb is wide at the non-striker's end which is not covered up by backup Samiullah Shinwari. Resultingly, they take the third!

  • 33.6 On middle and leg, Rahim flicks this off his pads to backward square leg for a single. 157/4
  • What has happened here? Looks like Mahmudullah has pulled up his hamstring. No. It is his calf. While completing the single, he was seen limping across. He is having his right calf bandaged. He is slowly getting up now. Seems like he is ready to play. Watch out for two things Afghanistan - Either a run out is on the cards or Mahmudullah might go berserk.

However, the spell of Mujeeb has seen the game poised nicely. Another wicket or two here will the Afghanistan side go on top. Another good partnership will mean Bangladesh are in control. An interesting passage of play awaits ahead.

  • Mahmudullah walks in next at number 6, replacing Sarkar. Gulbadin Naib comes back on as well.
  • 31.6 OUT! LBW! Umpire's call it is! Mujeeb gets his third. Another carrom ball, pitched outside off, Sarkar looked to work it to the leg side but missed. The ball came in with the angle and spun in, hitting him on the pads. Mujeeb appealed, umpire Kettleborough thought for a while and then raised his finger! Soumya was not sure, walked across to Rahim and then decided to go for the review. Perhaps Rahim felt that the ball was sliding down. Here comes the technology. No inside edge and the ball is projected to be going down, but after clipping the leg stump. Sarkar has to go and Bangladesh are in a little bit of bother here. 151/4

  • 30.5 Full and outside off, this is driven through coves for one.
  • 30.4 NOT OUT! Sarkar is just in! He works this length ball towards mid on and goes for one. The mid on fielder, Noor Ali, gets to the ball quickly and scores a direct hit at the bowler's end. An appeal and a confident one and the umpire takes it upstairs. Replays roll in and they show that the batsman is well in.

  • 29.3 On the stumps, this is defended.
  • Soumya Sarkar walks out to bat next.
  • 29.2 OUT! Up goes the finger and Shakib is LBW! He does not review this time because he was only half-forward. The bowling change has worked wonders! This is bowled flatter and it is the carrom ball. Pitches and turns back in. Shakib looks to defend but misses. It hits the front pad. An appeal and the umpire rules it in the favor of the bowler. He walks straightaway as he knew he was a goner. Afghanistan will now hope this opens the floodgates. Bangladesh are well placed though courtesy this stand. Tuesday sees another eagerly awaited clash of this World Cup - not the Ashes exactly but a contest of a similar genre. It is Australia against England and it will be exciting to see who becomes the lord of Lord's. Join us on June 25, 2019, at 10.30 am local (0930 GMT). ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
  • Victorious Bangladesh captain, Mashrafe Mortaza, smiles when asked about the crowd. Thanks them from the bottom of his heart. Is not short of words when asked to praise Shakib calling him as one of the most important players in the team. On Rahim-Shakib's partnership, Mash says that it was short but very important. Praises Tamim and Mahmudullah for their contributions. On the latter's injury, Mashrafe says that there is a week to go before their next match against India, so Mahmudullah will be assessed gradually. On their upcoming games against India and Pakistan, Mortaza says that Bangladesh will give their best and hope for the best.
  • Afghanistan captain, Gulbadin Naib, says that the India match was a close one but in this one, blames the poor quality of fielding. Adds that they gave away 30-40 runs extra but does not want to take any credit from Bangladesh's batting or Shakib. On Najibullah batting so low down the order, Naib deflects the question, stating that he is an experienced player and can hit the ball long and blames Ikram Ali Khil for not rotating the strike while batting above him. On Afghanistan's journey so far, Gulbadin says that the team has been suffering from injuries which is why they have not been able to perform well consistently.
  • SHAKIB AL HASAN HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. Shakib says that the support for Bangladesh has been great throughout this World Cup as the crowd has been right behind them. On asked what gave him more happiness - 50 or 5-fer, Al Hasan mentions the five wickets made him more happy as it was important but he had to work hard for his half ton too. States Rahim played really well and without him the score would not have been possible. Further adds Tamim's and Mosaddek's contributions were also important. Tells they had to bat well as Afghanistan have got really good spinners. On his good batting form, Shakib says that he does not know how he is playing so well, but he worked hard and was prepared for it and it is paying off. Ends by saying he wants the form to continue in the matches ahead and they have big games coming up, against India and Pakistan.
  • 7th loss in a row for Afghanistan. They equal the record set by Zimbabwe in 1992, becoming the second team to lose 7 straight matches in a single edition of the World Cup. They started nicely with the ball but then took the foot off the hook. Their batting has never come good in this tournament and it did not come good here either. It is sad to see this performance because after the India game, one would have expected a better show than this one. Please stay tuned for the presentation...
  • Shakib's day. Mushfiqur's day. Bangladesh's day. They get the 2 points they desperately were searching for. The Tigers move to 5th spot, with 7 points in as many games. The day began with Shakib and Rahim keeping Afghanistan at bay with a 61-run stand, with Rahim capping the innings off with a fine 83. And then with the ball, the number 1 all-rounder in the world in this format strut his stuff, taking a 5-fer. Only the second player ever, to score a fifty and take a 5-fer in the same World Cup game. These are also his best ODI figures.

  • Mohammad Saifuddin is back on! His figures till now 5-0-15-0.
  • 38.6 RUN OUT missed! Zadran drops this length delivery outside off to cover and sets off for a quick single and the fielder at cover has a shy at the non striker's end but misses it. Had he hit the stumps it could have been close! In the end it's safe for Zadran and Afghanistan. 160/6

  • 38.4 Shinwari flicks this off his pads to mid-wicket and crosses over to the other end.

  • 38.2 Shinwari defends this length delivery outside off to the off side.
  • 38.1 FOUR! Rahman bowls on a length but provides lots of width outside off, Shinwari throws the kitchen sink at it and cuts it through point and the ball crosses the fence in a flash.
  • 37.6 The batsman drives this through the covers. 154/6
  • 37.5 Shinwari guides this through point for one.

  • 35.5 FOUR! Up and over! That is some way to get off the mark. Zadran steps out and hits it over mid on and bags a boundary. Second in the over.
  • 35.4 This is worked with the turn through mid-wicket for one.
  • 35.3 FOUR! Swept and swept nicely! On the pads, Shinwari hits it through backward square leg. The fielder in the deep Mithun runs to his right and dives but his effort goes in vain.
  • 35.2 On middle, it is hit to mid-wicket.
  • Najibullah Zadran walks out to bat next.
  • 35.1 OUT! Ikram is short! Poor, poor running by him. This is a big mistake. He has literally thrown away a chance to spend some time out in the middle. Hasan bowls this one on middle, Shinwari looks to flick but misses to get hit on the pads. The bowler is appealing as the ball rolls on the leg side. The umpire shakes his head and Ikram in the meantime sets off for a run. Shinwari is not interested. Das picks the ball up from mid-wicket, turns and then fires it at the bowler's end. It looks like Ikram lazily tries to get in. The ball hits the stumps and an appeal follows. The umpire takes it upstairs. Replays roll in and they show that Ikram wasn't lazy, he was avoiding the throw and hence, he does not ground his bat properly which means he is short.
  • An appeal for a run out has been taken upstairs. Ikram looked like he did not ground his bat. This could be close.
  • Mehedi Hasan is back!
  • DRINKS! It is becoming tough for Afghanistan and they would want both Samiullah Shinwari and Ikram Ali Khil to stay till the end. The required rate is creeping up and they need many big overs. On the other hand, Bangladesh need just 5 wickets to win the match. They have kept it very tight till now. Afghanistan need 131 runs in 90 balls to win the match. Also, this is an extended Drinks Break as the Zing bails are not working and the umpires are waiting for the other ones to come out.
  • 34.6 FOUR! Educational edge! A welcome boundary for Afghanistan but they need a lot more. This is outside off, Ikram looks to run it down to third man but it goes off the outside edge and to the third man fence. 132/5

  • Mustafizur Rahman is back! He has 7 overs left. It keeps getting tougher for Afghanistan.

  • 32.3 The batsman works it down the leg side.
  • Ikram Ali Khil is the new man in.
  • 32.2 OUT! Afghan holes out! He needed to go for it, he went against the turn and picks the fielder out. Shakib has his fourth. He tosses it up outside off. Afghan looks to play the slog sweep. He does not hit it that well and it goes down the throat of Sabbir Rahman, the sub at deep mid-wicket. Half the side is back in the hut for Afghanistan and chasing this total now seems very difficult. 146 needed in 106.
  • 32.1 Mix-up but safe! Flatter and on off, Afghan taps it towards cover. Shinwari is off for a run but is sent back. He makes it in, in time as he wasn't a long way down the wicket.
  • 31.6 Shorter and on middle, this is worked through square leg for one. 117/4
  • 31.5 Overthrow! This is worked towards mid-wicket and the batsmen take one. Shakib has a needless shy at the non-striker's end. He hits the stumps, the ball deflects away from the fielder backing up and another run is taken.

  • 29.4 Fuller and on off, this is hit through covers for one.
  • 29.3 Good length on off, this is pushed to covers.
  • 29.2 Shorter and outside off, it is on the slower side. The batter lets it be. The ball bounces in front of Rahim who does not collect it cleanly. A single taken.
  • 29.1 Good shot! Full and on off, this is hit past mid off. Long on runs to his left and keeps it down to two.
  • 28.6 Another tossed up ball and Shenwari hits it to covers again. An over with two wickets in it. 106/4
  • 28.5 Floats it up on off, this is pushed to covers.
  • 28.4 Shinwari straightaway looks to play the reverse sweep, gets it fine on the off side for two.
  • Samiullah Shinwari is the new man in at number 6, replacing Nabi.
  • 28.3 OUT! TIMBER! Nabi is out of here for a duck! Shakib gets two in three balls. Afghanistan in huge trouble now. The slider does the trick this time. Shakib bowls it from wide of the crease and this starts from outside off, it drifts back in. Nabi plays outside the line, the ball kisses the inside edge and deflects onto the stumps. The crowd here is going bonkers.
  • 28.2 On the stumps, this is kept out.
  • Mohammad Nabi walks in at number 5, replacing his skipper.
  • 28.1 OUT! No fifty for Gulbadin! Excellent catch, even more impressive field placement! Also, Shakib bowls to that plan. He has a short cover and a normal cover in place. He gives it extra flight tempting the batsman to drive. Naib does get tempted, he looks to drive but does not keep it down. Das at short cover is low and ready for it and then takes a sharp chance. Naib probably falls at the wrong time for Afghanistan. He was set and they needed him to step on the gas, he was looking to do so but falls before he could make an impact. Bangladesh continue to tighten their grip on the game.

  • 20.5 OUT! STUMPED! Mosaddek gets the second wicket for Bangladesh. Nicely bowled. Flighted outside off, Hashmatullah lunges out to drive but the ball pitches and spins away. Beats the outside edge and Rahim collects nicely, whipping the bails off. It is referred upstairs and replays show that Shahidi has not dragged his foot back in. This does not help Afghanistan. Both batsmen were trying to absorb the pressure but then one of those has not converted his start. 184 more needed from 175 balls.
  • Stumping appeal! Is that gone? Our colleague Louis is certain the batsman is a goner. It has been referred upstairs and just one replay should be enough. The foot has not come back in.

Naib has to change track, take a U-turn and when he does so, looks to be gone for all money. Liton Das gets to the ball and returns a wild throw, well away from the stumps, which means Mosaddek has to reach out to his right, collect, turn around and then whip the bails. Naib has dived in by that time. A straighter throw would have had Gulbadin.
