  • Okay then. 321 to win. Game over for the Aussies? They looked pretty deflated in the last 10 overs, which yielded 130 runs. May not be a bad idea to just come out and swing. You never know, might be game on. The run chase resumes at 6.05 pm local (0705 GMT).
  • Mitchell Starc says that 321 can be chased down. Reckons that 50 overs is a long time and you don't want to swing from the word go. Feels that Australia have a good batting line-up. Admits tat the Aussies were on top with the Saffas at 55/3 but admires the way Faf and Miller batted, taking their time initially but then cashing in later. Advises his batsmen to take a leaf out of their books.
  • The Aussies will be devastated but they will have themselves to blame. The bowlers had nicely set it up in the first half but then some easy chances were put down which led to a carnage. Maxwell had nearly got both the batsmen out - first Faf and then Miller - but while the latter got a reprieve via DRS, the skipper was put down by Carey. In spite of all the battering, the top 3 seamers still ended with respectable figures, which shows how good they were early on. Here's one of them with Neroli Meadows.
  • It was a stand worth 252 in 199 balls, which had 25 fours and 6 maximums. Australia had no respite and towards the end, it seemed like they were just going through the motions, waiting for the innings to end. The skipper made 125 while Miller went ahead to get to his highest ODI score of 139.
  • It was an innings split into two halves. First was all Australia, reducing the Proteas to 55/3 in the 16th over, but then Faf du Plessis and David Miller produced an outstanding display of batting. They took their time to settle and then unleashed on every bowler, sparing no one.
  • Crash. Bang. Hammer. Clobber. Crack. Running short of adjectives. It was always a matter of getting a wicket, felt the Aussies. But 2 men have literally snatched the game away from them.
  • 49.6 Full and outside off, slapped through the covers for a run. Just 7 from the final over, which applies a kind of soothing balm on the Aussie wounds. South Africa finish on 320/5!
  • 49.5 A slower ball, Klaasen tries to swing hard but misses. The batsmen take a bye as Carey misses his under-arm shy at the striker's end.
  • Dwaine Pretorius comes in.
  • 49.4 OUT! Miller cannot quite stay till the end. A high full toss, David swings this over mid-wicket. It seems like it is another six but Aaron Finch near the ropes composes himself, takes the catch, then realizes that he is going over, throws the ball in the air and then comes back to take it cleanly. Excellent is an understatement for Miller's knock. Just imagine - he did not want to review that LBW off Maxwell but Faf... well played.
  • 49.3 A dot ball. Wow. A rarity. Outside off, good change in pace, Miller swings but misses.
  • 49.2 FOUR! Down the leg side, Miller flicks it beautifully through square leg and finds the boundary!
  • 49.1 Full on middle, pushed towards long on for a single.
  • Josh Hazlewood to bowl the final over. Can SA get to 330?
  • 48.6 Dropped short, pulled to deep mid-wicket where Travis Head fumbles, does not know where the ball is because it lobs off his body in the air. Finally recovers and the batsmen take the second. 17 from this over with a wicket, 82/1 in the last 5. 313/4
  • 48.5 FOUR! Meanwhile, the carnage continues at the other end. A short ball, Miller pulls it behind square leg and gets a boundary!
  • Heinrich Klaasen is the new man in.
  • 48.4 OUT! Stop the press. A wicket has fallen at the Adelaide Oval. Faf du Plessis walks off to a standing ovation. Short and outside off, Faf reaches out and slashes it towards cover. Does not get enough power and Shaun Marsh gets a catching opportunity. He charges in, dives and takes a splendid catch. Something to smile for the Aussies. Take a bow, Faf.
  • 48.3 SIX! Unbelievable shot. This one reminds me of the innings Faf played at the Wankhede around 2015, wherein he literally smashed India on one leg. That time, he had played a similar shot, reaching out to a wide ball with one hand off his bat and still get it over cover for six. This is no different, only this time Faf is fitter.
  • 48.2 A full toss, around leg, swinging in, Miller looks to swing but gets a thick inside edge onto his pads. A quick single taken.
  • 48.1 FOUR! Change in pace, slower delivery, Miller comes down the track and looks to ramp it over short third man but skews it. The ball lands safely but then backward point and sweeper cover mess it up, parrying the ball into the ropes.
  • Right then. Over number 49. Who will bowl? Does it matter? For the records, it is Marcus Stoinis...
  • 47.6 FOUR! A long hop now, pulled through mid-wicket for the third consecutive boundary! 20 from this over, 65 from the last 4! 296/3
  • 47.5 FOUR! Another boundary. The runs just keep coming. Full on middle, Faf flicks it through mid-wicket, wide of the man inside the ring and gets it to the ropes.
  • 47.4 FOUR! CLUBBED! Full and around off, Faf stands still and hammers it over mid off for a boundary!
  • 47.3 Outside off, punched through the covers for a run.
  • 47.2 SIX! Amazing placement! Full and outside off, Miller just places it over mid off. The ball goes high, higher and then highest! Wayyyy over long off!
  • 47.1 Full on middle, driven down the ground for a single.
  • 46.6 FOUR! Not a bad ball but even that disappears! Full and wide outside off, because Miller is backing away to the leg side. But the southpaw reaches out to hit and slashes it through cover! 20 from the over, 45 off the last 3! 276/3
  • 46.5 FOUR! Overcompensates for the previous ball, does Cummins and Miller promptly pounces. Pulls it behind square leg and gets a boundary!
  • 46.4 SIX! CLOBBERED! The Killer Miller is on show here. Full and on middle, David swings it cleanly over mid-wicket!
  • 46.3 Played through mid-wicket by the batsman. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 46.2 Down the leg side, Miller tickles this through square leg for a single.
  • 46.1 FOUR! And now a hundred for Miller! His 5th in ODIs, second against the Aussies. Short ball outside off, Miller backs away and ramps it over short third man for a boundary! He is very happy, takes his helmet off, runs around a bit and then celebrates. Well played. Now, for some carnage. MORE carnage.
  • 45.6 FOUR! BRUTAL! What sport is Faf playing? Cricket or baseball? A short ball, outside off, du Plessis backs away and clubs it with a flat horizontal bat down the ground, one bounce and into the sight screen! 11 from the over, 25 off the last 2! 256/3
  • 45.5 On a length outside off, Miller hops and taps it through the off side for a quick run.
  • 45.4 Swinging in late, pushed through mid on for a quick single.
  • 45.3 A low full toss, dragged through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 45.3 WIDE. Another one in this over for Mitchell Starc and the Aussies are looking totally ragged now.
  • 45.2 10TH ODI TON FOR FAF DU PLESSIS! 4th against Australia. Led from the front. What a time to do it. Pressure game, series on the line. That is a captain's knock. A short ball, around off, du Plessis pulls this through mid-wicket and gets the single. Takes his helmet off and then raises his arms. Well played, sir.
  • 45.1 Fuller on middle, chipped down to long on for a single.
  • 45.1 WIDE. A bouncer to start off the over but it is too short and is wided.
  • 44.6 FOUR! Another boundary! 14 from the over! A length ball outside off, Faf crashes it through the covers and makes it a memorable over for the Saffas. 247/3
  • 44.5 FOUR! A short ball, on middle, Faf lofts this high in the air, gets more height than distance but the mid-wicket area is pretty much vacant. Bounces into the ropes.
  • 44.4 A short ball now, pulled through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 44.3 FOUR! Easy-peasy. Fine leg is up and the length is short of full. Christmas comes early. Flicked past short fine leg for a boundary.
  • 44.2 Played through mid-wicket by the batsman. They pick up a single.
  • 44.1 NOT OUT. Totally desperate review from Finch who looked clueless. No one heard a sound except Carey and Cummins and he went with his duo. A length ball outside off, Faf got across and looked to paddle but missed. Carey was the first to appeal, while Cummins seemed extremely confident that there was a nick. Finch went upstairs but no technology could make Aleem Dar change his decision. Shane Warne chuckles on air feeling that perhaps that was a tactical review from Finch, trying to slow down proceedings.
  • Has Cummins struck on return? The on-field decision is not out against a caught behind appeal. Cummins reckons that he has Faf caught behind. Review time...
  • Pat Cummins is back too. 8-2-33-0 so far.
  • 43.6 Full toss outside off, driven towards mid off for a run. 231/3
  • 43.5 Short and outside off, slashed behind point for a couple.
  • 43.4 Reversing in, around middle, flicked through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 43.3 HIGH FULL TOSS! WAS THAT A NO BALL? No, says the square leg umpire to the no ball inquiry from Faf. Replays show that it was a high full toss, yes, but was dipping down. At the point of contact, it was below the waist when Faf managed to get it through the covers for a single.
  • 43.2 EDGED, BUT DOES NOT CARRY! A slower ball from Starc, du Plessis comes down the track and looks to pull but gets an under edge. However, it does not carry to Carey.
  • 43.1 A short ball, Faf looks to pull but misses and is struck on the chest. Starc is almost near the head of Faf, giving him some 'words of advice'.
  • Mitchell Starc is back into the attack. 7-1-21-2 so far.
  • 42.6 A yorker, but even that is dug out towards mid on for a single. 13 from the Hazlewood over, 27 off his last 2! 226/3
  • 42.5 FOUR! Stand and deliver! Full and around off, du Plessis backs away slightly and crashes it through the covers for a boundary!
  • 42.4 The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball. One run added to the total.
  • 42.3 FOUR! That is a bad ball with the field up. Third man was inside the ring and Hazlewood dropped it short. Miller slashed hard and got it over short third man for a boundary.
  • 42.2 Full and outside off, driven beautifully through the covers for a couple.
  • 42.1 Full and outside off, driven through mid off for a single.
  • 41.6 Down the leg side, helped through square leg for a couple. 213/3
  • 41.5 Outside off, steered towards third man for a single.
  • 41.4 Full and outside off, pushed through the covers for a quick single. Direct hit at the bowler's end might have been interesting.
  • 41.3 The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot. One run added to the total.
  • 41.2 Around middle, helped through mid-wicket for a single.
  • 41.2 WIDE! A bouncer, down the leg side, Miller ducks and it is wided for height.
  • 41.1 150-RUN STAND IS UP. Ehat a stand. Started in the 174th over, still going strong. Around middle, helped through square leg for a couple.
  • Pat Cummins is back on. 7-2-24-0 so far.
  • 40.6 Good yorker to finish, FdP just about digs it out. Wants a single but Hazlewood gets there quickly and Miller sends his skipper back. 14 from the over! 204/3
  • 40.5 Dances out again and hits it through the covers for a couple.
  • 40.4 SIX! Don't look away. Cavalry has arrived and they are looking to fight. A short ball, around off, Faf jumps out and pulls it over mid-wicket. Does not get hold of it properly but has enough to get it over the ropes! 200 UP FOR SOUTH AFRICA! Forget 250, even 325 is a possibility on this small ground.
  • 40.3 FOUR! BOSH! Short and outside off, du Plessis comes down the track and smashes it over cover for a boundary! Moves to 70 from 87 with his 8th boundary! The stand moves to 141 from 150 deliveries!
  • 40.2 Dropped short, Miller swivels and hooks it towards fine leg for a run.
  • 40.1 Around middle, helped through mid-wicket for a single.
  • POWERPLAY 3 then. 1 went to the Aussies. 2 was snaffled by the Proteas. What will happen in this phase? Five fielders allowed outside the 30-yard circle.
  • 39.6 Nice courage from Zampa to toss it up, Miller looks to slog sweep but misses and is hit on the abdomen. 190/3
  • 39.5 Almost a yorker, du Plessis looks to give himself room to the leg side and hit it through the off side but ends up chopping it down to short fine leg. He is not too sure about the single but Miller calls him through.
  • 39.4 Full on middle, pushed down to long off for a single.
  • 39.3 SIX! BOOM! That is the biggest of the day! Tossed up outside off, Miller gets down and slog sweeps it miles over mid-wicket!
  • 39.2 Goes back and punches it straight to cover.
  • 39.1 Full on middle, flicked through mid-wicket for a single.
  • Okay then. Finch is forced to bring Zampa back on. 5-0-23-0 so far. Faf was very vocal in his post-match interview of the last game that Australia were lucky that their spinner did not have settled batsmen in the middle to attack him. He will be looking to put those words into action here...
  • 38.6 Waits for the ball to come to him and dabs it towards point for another single. 181/3
  • 38.5 This one skids on, du Plessis misses his flick and is hit on the pads. Hazlewood starts to appeal for LBW but then bails out. Too high and going down too.
  • 38.4 Another short ball, Miller swivels and pulls it down to long leg for one.
  • 38.3 Outside off, nicely glided down to third man for a run.
  • 38.2 On a length outside of, nicely played through cover-point for a single.
  • 38.1 Short and outside off, cut straight to point.
  • Josh Hazlewood is back on. 6-1-16-0 so far.
  • 37.6 FOUR! Delightful batting! Full and around off, Faf gets down and across and paddle scoops it towards fine leg for a boundary! 13 from the over, 23 from the last 2! 177/3
  • 37.5 A short delivery, pulled through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 37.4 He is starting to really open up here. Backs away and crashes this through the covers for a brace.
  • 37.3 A slower ball, pulled through square leg for a couple.
  • 37.2 FOUR! Fine shot! Miller now charges out and lofts the length ball over cover for a boundary! Moves to 61 from 70 balls.
  • 37.1 WAS THAT A CATCHING OPPORTUNITY? Probably not. A short ball, around middle, Miller looked to pull but missed and the ball went off something in the air. Marcus Stoinis hared after it to the leg side but could not quite get to the ball. Replays show that the ball was off the left arm. No wood.
  • 36.6 FOUR! Too good a shot. Full and around off, Faf gets down and sweeps it through mid-wicket for a boundary! 10 from the over. Are the Proteas pressing on the accelerator? 164/3
  • 36.5 Good running. Pushes this wide of long on and scampers through for the second.
  • 36.4 Fired in outside off, Faf looks to sweep but misses.
  • 36.3 Comes down the track and pushes it through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 36.2 Full and around middle, swept through mid-wicket for a couple.
  • 36.1 Full and around off, Faf looks to drive but gets an outside edge towards short third man. A single taken.
  • 35.6 Full and around off, watchfully defended. 154/3
  • 35.5 AND NOW FIFTY FOR THE SKIPPER! It is his 4th against Australia too! 30th overall in ODIs. Full and outside off, driven towards long off for a run. Calm and composed has the skipper looked.
  • 35.4 Another short ball, pulled to deep mid-wicket for a single.
  • 35.3 FOUR! FIFTY FOR MILLER! Back-to-back ones for him. His 13th overall in ODIs and 4th against Australia. A short ball, around middle, David swivels and pulls this through mid-wicket for a boundary. A fine knock, never let the pressure build.
  • 35.2 A touch short, outside off, slapped through the covers for a run.
  • 35.1 Down the leg side, Miller walks into the shot and flicks it towards backward square leg for a single.

  • 34.6 Holds this one back, David helps it through square leg for anther single. 146/3
  • 34.5 Good change of pace, bowling it on middle, Miller comes down the track and flicks it straight to short mid-wicket.

  • 33.6 A terrific yorker, swinging in, David digs it out. Frustration for the Aussies and Starc cannot believe it. 138/3
  • 33.5 TOP EDGE, DROPPED! A very, very difficult chance. Should he have dived? A short ball, around middle, Miller looked to pull but the ball got big on him. Took the top edge and lobbed towards long on. Aaron Finch ran after it and then stretched his left hand but the ball burst through. Two runs taken.
  • 33.4 A short ball, outside off, David hops and looks to cut but gets a bottom edge.
  • 33.3 Full on middle, Miller looks to flick but gets a leading edge towards cover.
  • 33.2 Tails in slightly, from outside off, clipped straight to short mid-wicket.
  • 33.1 On middle and leg, helped through mid-wicket for a couple.
  • DRINKS BREAK. Pat Cummins, on the overturned LBW verdict says that he did not think height will be an issue on this surface and says that it was very close. On the wicket, he feels that it looks a good one and anything around 250 would be a good score. Admits that the track looks pretty flat although the seamers did well to exploit the moisture on the surface. Reckons that the Proteas have some big hitters down the order so Australia need to be careful.
  • 32.6 Around middle, worked through mid-wicket but straight to the fielder. 134/3
  • 32.5 Full and outside off, driven through the covers for a single.
  • 32.4 NOT OUT! What a review! Unbelievable. Even Aleem Dar is smiling. This was so close to being a wicket. The arm ball, skidding on after pitching around middle, Miller came forward to defend but missed the ball. He was hit on the pads, in front of the sticks and Maxwell appealed for LBW. Aleem Dar did not delay raising his finger and Miller was walking back dejectedly. Now, he was having a chat with his skipper and the allotted 15 seconds were almost getting over, with Miller ready to go. But then, at the last moment, Faf signalled for the review. And tell you what, Hawk Eye shows the ball to be going over the stumps!
  • LBW shout and given! Miller has been adjudged out by Aleem Dar but he wants a review.
  • 32.3 Full and around off, pushed towards mid off.
  • 32.2 Full again, played through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 32.1 Full and around middle, pushed towards cover for a single.
  • 31.6 Driven through mid off by the batsman. 131/3
  • 31.5 Tough luck. Full and outside off, Faf drives it towards cover where Marcus Stoinis dives to his right and parries it towards mid off. Aaron Finch gets across to his left and has a shy at the bowler's end and hits them, but only to concede the second run on the overthrow.
  • 31.4 A short ball, down the leg side, grips off the surface, but a calm du Plessis guides it towards fine leg for a couple via a pull.
  • 31.3 Around off, swinging in slightly, watchfully defended.
  • 31.2 Down the leg side, turned towards deep backward square leg for a run. Moves to 40 from 49 balls.

  • 29.5 IN THE AIR... OVER THE TOP! FOUR! Cross-seam delivery from Hazlewood, around off, Miller looks to drive but the ball holds off the surface. The batsman is already through his shot and tries checking it. Luckily for him, the ball flies over mid off.
  • 29.4 A length ball, skidding on, Miller hops and defends.
  • 29.3 Down the leg side, tickled fine for a single. The stand moves to 60 now.

  • 27.2 Outside off, angling away, shouldered arms to.
  • 27.1 Around off, solidly defended.
  • 26.6 IS THAT A DROP? Maxwell certainly seems to think so. Even Aleem Dar has an 'o' on his lips. Big moment missed by Australia. Outside off, Faf looked to run it down to third man but missed. Carey perhaps was not concentrating enough. Gets up late, fumbles in the first take, tries to get it in the second but misses. Replays detect a thick edge. Now then. 105/3
  • 26.5 Around off, pushed back to the bowler.
  • 26.4 Now Miller follows suit and clips it through id-wicket for one, bringing up the 50-RUN PARTNERSHIP. Excellent fightback. Both are looking good.
  • 26.3 Comes down the track this time and bunts it towards long on for a run.
  • 26.2 On middle and leg, helped straight to short mid-wicket.
  • 26.1 Full and wide outside off, driven towards sweeper cover for a single.

  • 15.4 On middle and leg, swinging in, nicely flicked towards mid on.
  • David Miller comes in at number 5, replacing Markram.
  • 15.3 OUT! Another dismissal strangled down the leg side! Ordinary cricket from the bowler and batsman. Australia profit though. Loose delivery, almost like a warm-up one. Full and down the leg side, Markram walks down the pitch and looks to tickle it fine. But just like Hendricks, he is not able to get it past Carey. He just stands there and looks at the heavens. No one but himself to blame. Two gifted wickets for the Aussies.
  • 15.2 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 15.1 The batsman fails to put bat on ball.
  • DRINKS BREAK TAKEN. Mitchell Starc returns.

  • 14.2 Fuller around middle and leg, Aiden looks to flick and nearly spoons a leading edge back to the bowler.
  • 14.1 A huge LBW shout to start off proceedings. The googly first up, pitched around leg, skidding down, Markram looked to flick but missed and was hit on the pads.
  • Spin time. Adam Zampa into the attack now. Good luck with the short boundaries and the attacking Saffa batsmen.
  • 13.6 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery. 11 from this over and Stoinis has gone for 23 in his last 2. 52/2

  • 13.3 Around off, clipped through mid-wicket for a single. Moves to 30 from 35 balls.
  • Out comes the fourth umpire with the box of balls.
  • 13.2 SIX! BLAST! Another pull, another biggie. All from Markram. All of short balls. Poor bowling. It is a long hop, outside off, Aiden dispatches this overv square leg. The stand is now worth 21 from 24 balls. Good counter-attack. And we have lost the ball.
  • 13.1 On a length around middle, helped towards short mid-wicket.
  • 12.6 Outside off, left alone. 41/2
  • 12.5 Back of a length, around off, worked past short mid-wicket for a run.
  • 12.4 On middle and leg, helped through mid-wicket for a single.

  • 12.2 Full and outside off, pushed towards point.
  • 12.1 On a length outside off, solidly defended.
  • 11.6 SIX! BELLIGERENT! South Africa needed this over. Runs were not coming at all and Markram decided to take a punt by going after Stoinis. 12 runs have come from this over. A short ball, outside off, Aiden goes back and pulls it over square leg for a biggie! Moves to 22 from 31 balls. His second big hit. 39/2
  • 11.5 On middle and leg, flicked straight to short mid-wicket.
  • 11.4 FOUR! Markram is slowly getting some momentum back. A length ball, a bit too straight, Aiden works it between mid-wicket and mid on and gets a boundary.
  • 11.3 Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 11.2 Full and outside off, Markram drives this between cover and mid off and gets a couple.
  • 11.1 On a length around off, solidly defended.

  • 10.5 On a length outside off, watchfully pushed towards cover.
  • 10.4 A short ball outside off, Faf looks to pull but missed. There is half a shout for the catch from behind the stumps but the bowler is not interested. Neither is the umpire. Glenn Maxwell comes charging in from backward point and is very adamant that it is out. He is very disappointed that Finch does not review that. Let us see - what does Snickometer show? Nothing. Good decision not to review the original decision.
  • 10.3 Keeps it straight and just outside off, du Plessis defends.
  • 10.2 Back of a length around off, moving away, pushed towards point.
  • 10.1 Full and outside off, driven straight to short extra cover.

  • 9.4 Around off, played wide of mid-wicket for a single.
  • 9.3 Landed outside off, Faf lets it be.
  • Skipper Faf du Plessis comes in at number 4, replacing Hendricks.
  • 9.2 OUT! Would you believe it? It is Stoinis who gives the breakthrough! On his very second ball! One of the worst balls to get out to. It is a nothing delivery, pitched on a length and down the leg side. Hendricks gets across, looks to tuck it fine but is not quite able to do that cleanly. The ball does hit the face of the bat but goes straight to Alex Carey who does not have to move much to his left. He catches, appeals, Stoinis does not even bother to. Because his face resembles that of a person who can do nothing wrong. The umpire raises his finger and off goes Reeza.
  • 9.1 On a length around middle, helped through mid-wicket for a single.
  • Another change. Marcus Stoinis introduced now.
  • 8.6 The batsman defends it from within the crease. 25/1
  • 8.6 WIDE. Down the leg side, flick shot missed.
  • 8.5 Back of a length not too far from the off stump, Reeza pokes at this one and misses.
  • 8.4 On a length outside off, shouldered arms to.
  • 8.3 IN THE AIR... BUT DROPPED! A diving effort from Travis Head but half-chances like these need to be taken. A length ball outside off, Hendricks pushes at this away from his body. The ball bounces more than normal and he ends up getting surprised. Tries to fend at it but is too late. The ball flies off the face of the bat through the covers where Travis Head dives to his right but cannot hang on.
  • 8.2 Outside off, a touch wide, Hendricks looks to play at that but misses.
  • 8.1 FOUR! Bad line. Full and down the leg side, tickled away to the fine leg fence.
  • 7.6 Better from Hazlewood, back in the corridor of uncertainty, watchfully defended. So a run out opportunity missed and then a six hit from that over. 20/1
  • 7.5 SIX! BANG! How still was his head when he played that shot? Very still. A rare bad ball from the dependable Josh, it is a long hop, right in the middle of the pitch and Markram is ready for the gift. Rocks back in a flash and pulls it over mid-wicket!
  • 7.4 A length ball, around middle, flicked straight to short mid-wicket.
  • 7.3 Full and outside off, driven sweetly towards mid off.
  • 7.2 Around off, solidly defended.
  • 7.1 RUN OUT OPPORTUNITY MISSED BY AUSTRALIA. They have done well to keep the pressure on and it nearly resulted in the second wicket. A length ball, around middle, Markram flicks it towards short mid-wicket and sets off for a single. But Hendricks does not agree and rightly so. The ball is not far from Pat Cummins who just has to move a bit to his right. He slides to his right and now Aiden starts to go back. He is so far down the track that even an under-arm throw from Cummins would have found him short. Pat tries to flick it back but it misses the stumps. Hang on. There is more. Glenn Maxwell comes charging in from backward point and looks to flick the throw from Cummins onto the stumps. But gets hit on the shin instead.
  • 6.6 Full and straight, Reeza looks to defend but gets hit on the pads. Another mild LBW appeal ensues. Fraction too high seemed to be the impact. 14/1

  • 6.2 Around off, coming in, Markram looks to tuck but misses and is hit on the pads.
  • 6.1 On a length outside off, solidly defended.
  • Pat Cummins now. Finch ringing in the changes already. Rotating his quicks might be the way to go in this heat.
  • 5.6 FOUR! First boundary of the game! Textbook stuff from Hendricks. Hazlewood gets the length wrong, bowls it around good length outside off and Reeza just punches it through the covers. Once the ball makes contact with the turf, it just races away. A run after 11 dots. 13/1
  • 5.5 Excellent fielding by Maxwell! He is a livewire anywhere on the field. Full and outside off, RH drives this through point but Maxi dives to his left and makes a terrific one-handed stop.
  • 5.4 Full. Straight. Hits the batsman on the pads. But no LBW shout. Just an 'OHHHHHHHH!' Inside edge has saved Hendricks here. Missed his attempted flick.
  • 5.3 Slightly fuller, played towards short mid-wicket.
  • 5.2 Around off, pushed towards cover.
  • 5.1 On a length around off, shoots up, Hendricks is caught by surprise as he is forward to play that and just about manages to fend it down.
  • 4.6 Slower delivery to end the over, fuller in length outside off, Markram watchfully pushes it towards cover. A MAIDEN FROM STARC. 9/1
  • 4.5 Around off, on a length, watchfully blocked out.
  • 4.4 Outside off, punched towards cover.
  • 4.3 On middle and leg, flicked straight to Pat Cummins at short mid-wicket.
  • 4.2 Excellent take from Carey. Has saved a boundary. Short and down the leg side, Markram looks to flick but misses. The ball flies off his thigh pads and Alex dives to his left to take it with one glove.
  • 4.1 A length ball on middle, pushed back to the bowler.
  • 3.6 On a length around off, seaming away, Markram is squared up and the ball goes off the outside edge behind point. A single taken. 9/1
  • 3.5 Comes down the track, looks to flick but gets hit on the pads. A mild LBW appeal goes up, but that was going down the leg side. A quick leg bye taken.
  • 3.4 ALMOST A CATCH! Lucky me. Hazlewood is probing here. A length ball, around off, Hendricks looks to flick but just closes the bat-face a bit early. Almost spoons a catch to short mid-wicket. Does not carry to Pat Cummins.
  • 3.3 Tight line of attack, around the stumps, solid line of defense.
  • 3.3 WIDE. Miles outside off, little bit of swing, left alone.
  • 3.2 Back of a length, similar line, pushed towards mid on.
  • 3.1 On a length around off, defended watchfully.
  • 2.6 A bouncer to end the over, Aiden ducks. Successful over for Starc and Australia. 6/1
  • 2.5 Full and around off, swinging in, pushed towards cover.
  • 2.4 The ball is too wide on the off side for the batsman to make any contact.
  • 2.3 On middle and leg, helped through mid-wicket for a couple.
  • 2.2 On a length just outside off, Markram, like de Kock, has a tentative push inside the line. Gets beaten.
  • Aiden Markram walks in at number 3, replacing de Kock.
  • 2.1 OUT! Caught behind! Big wicket for Australia. This is what bowling at 145 clicks an hour can do. Mitchell Starc is back on song. A big blow to South Africa. On a length, just outside off, de Kock feels for that ball but it moves away just a bit, to take the outside edge. Simple catch to Alex Carey behind, who collects and appeals. Up goes umpire Aleem Dar's finger and de Kock does not bother to review.
  • 1.6 Landed outside off, left alone. A quiet start to the proceedings. 4/0
  • 1.5 Back of a length just outside off, well defended.
  • 1.4 Full and around off, watchfully blocked out.
  • 1.3 Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 1.2 Similar line, Hendricks is in two minds whether to play or not, thinks to withdraw his bat but is late and gets beaten.
  • 1.1 Full and outside off, swinging away, left alone.
  • Josh Hazlewood to bowl with the second new ball.
  • 0.6 Full and outside off, driven through the covers for a couple. Decent first over for both sides. 4/0
  • 0.5 Full and outside off, nice swing for Starc, well kept out.
  • 0.4 Nice and swinging in, pushed straight to cover.
  • 0.3 Excellent inswinging yorker, watchfully dug out.
  • 0.2 Nice shot. On a length outside off, a touch wide, played behind point for a couple.
  • 0.1 OUCH! A hit on the box to start the proceedings. A length ball outside off, coming in sharply, de Kock looks to play that from the crease but is done in by the inward movement. Gets an inside edge which hits him on the unmentionables.
  • We are in readiness for the game to begin then. Out come the players. Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks will open the batting for South Africa. Mitchell Starc to start off with the first new ball, to Quinton de Kock.
  • TEAM NEWS - Not surprisingly, Australia are unchanged. The Proteas might have pondered about bringing in Andile Phehlukwayo for Dwaine Pretorius, to strengthen their batting but it is pretty hard to leave out a bloke who took 3 wickets in his first outing in Australia. Hence, they are also unchanged.
  • TOSS - Aaron Finch has won the spin of the coin and has decided that AUSTRALIA WILL CHASE tonight.
  • WEATHER - Plenty of clouds in the sky but none of them are rain-threatening. There is plenty of blue around and it looks a pretty good day to play cricket.
  • Okay! We have a series decider! When was the last time we had this with Australia involved? The last win was not necessarily the best performance from the Aussies but a win is a win nevertheless. That would have given them a big boost ahead of this third and final ODI. South Africa, on the other hand, will believe that they lost the game due to their own mistakes and will look to demonstrate a complete performance tonight. Hello and a warm welcome to the third ODI between Australia and South Africa at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart.

Australia Vs South Africa Live Score (ODI) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • That ends the coverage of the third and final ODI. Australia continue to hunt for momentum and series wins. Their next assignment will be a one-off T20I against the Proteas at a new venue, the Carrara Oval, in Queensland, on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 6.20 pm local (0820 GMT). Till then, you can check out some of the action from other areas of the cricketing world. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
  • South Africa skipper, Faf du Plessis, says he feels good tonight. He feels they played their best game here, They were good with the bat today but they were even better with the ball at the death. Further adds Australia also have a very good bowling line-up but their batters executed their plans well. Mentions short bowling was their plan as the leg side boundary was the bigger one and the bowlers responded well. States they wanted to bat first as they wanted to test themselves under challenging conditions. Ends by saying Hobart is one ground where they have a lot of good memories.
  • Australia skipper, Aaron Finch, says it is always hard to contain two set batters towards the end. Reckons they did get themselves back into the game but could not finish it. Feels they were in a good position after the 35th over mark. Admits they misexecuted their plans a little and credits the way Faf and Miller played. Appreciates the partnership of Marsh and Stoinis. Ends by saying they were not great in the Powerplay in this series and not even in the middle overs, those are issues they need to resolved.
  • Man of the Match and Player of the Series, David Miller says, it is always a great feeling to contribute in a team's win. Mentions he wanted to take his time out as the team was in trouble. Further adds Faf and he wanted to play long. Says that he is really enjoying his batting at the moment. Reckons the wicket was a little two-paced but it was till a good one. States anything over 300 is a good total but Marsh and Stoinis' partnership did give them a scare. Ends by crediting their bowlers.
  • Time now for the presentation. Who will be the Man Of The Match? There will be a Man Of The Series too. Stay tuned....
  • Rabada says it is never easy coming to Australia but they did well to carry forward the momentum after the series win in Sri Lanka. Reckons du Plessis and Miller kept on going and that turned out to be the difference. Mentions the wicket at first felt it was a little two-paced but once the batters got in, it was good for stroke-making. Credits the way the South African bowlers bowled. Ends by saying they deserved the victory.
  • When you have a score of 320 to defend, normally the bowlers have a good cushion. But nothing to take away from the Saffas. They bowled really well even on a pitch which did not have much of an assistance. It was a good learning curve for the young guys. Dale Steyn set the tone early and ended up with 3 wickets while Rabada picked up 3 as well, towards the end. Here is KG, for a chat with Brendon Julian.
  • Shaun Marsh says it was disappointing to not be there till the end. Admits South Africa outplayed them. On being asked whether he was batting with a niggle, he says he was completely fine.
  • Spare a though for Shaun Marsh. His third ODI century in 2018 - all resulting in losses. He looked fluent right from the word go and had Stoinis stayed there for another 5 overs, Australia might have even pulled it off. Here he is, with Neroli Meadows.
  • The batting actually did decently. After losing 3 down pretty quickly, one might have expected a collapse but Marsh and Stoinis showed that they were up for a fight, with a 107-run stand. After that too, the batsmen coming in tried and staged a few stands but in the end, it was too much to do.
  • In these last few months, batting has been an issue for the Aussies but here, it was the bowling which let them down. They started really well but a Miller and Faf masterclass was too much to bear, even for the experienced trio of Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood.
  • Finally the game ends. After South Africa piled on 320, it was always going to be difficult for Australia and after being 39/3, there was hardly any chance left. Yet another series loss for Australia - their 5th bilateral one in a row and they have not won an ODI series since beating Pakistan at home in 2016-17.
