  • Dale Steyn feels they bowled really well. Reckons there is runs on offer but their bowlers were spot on. Mentions he got lucky with his second wicket. Adds further Australia lost a few early wickets and then the going got tough for them. Ends by saying it is a good wicket but they have to get through the tricky period of batting before the break first.
  • No Australian batsman looked settled at the crease. Alex Carey tried to fight hard while Nathan Coulter-Nile once again ended up being the top scorer of the innings. The rest were simply consumed by the pace and movement. Here is Dale Steyn catching up for an interview.
  • Fast. Furious. Fanatic. Fantastic. Pacey. Wow. This is cricket in Australia and at the WACA. The earlier track was known for pace and bounce and this new one has shown us just that today. Dale Steyn was in and at the Aussie batsmen, removing the top order quickly, while Lungi Ngidi partnered him tremendously. The surprise pick was Andile Phehlukwayo, who ran through the middle order and did not allow the Aussies to recover.
  • South Africa will bat for around 20 minutes till the scheduled Lunch break. Australia might look at that as an opportunity to pick up a wicket or two and then get into that brittle middle order. But for now, let us talk about their bowling.
  • 38.1 OUT! Australia have been bowled out for 152. Spectacular bowling by South Africa and Ngidi too. A short ball outside off, Nathan looks to pull but the bounce gets big on him. Takes a top edge which goes only as far as mid on. Easy catch for Heinrich Klaasen.
  • 37.6 Now he goes for the slog but inside edges it towards square leg. A single taken. 152/9
  • 37.5 Ha ha ha... was he trying the slog initially? Full and around middle, Nathan was lining up for the big one but then got a yorker, which he ended up jamming it out.
  • 37.4 That was close. Excellent delivery. Another flipper from Tahir. Coulter-Nile flashed for the cut but missed.
  • 37.3 Full and around off, driven down the ground for a single.
  • 37.2 Slower one, around off, watchfully defended. When is the googly coming?
  • 37.1 Full and outside off, the flipper first up, pushed towards short third man.
  • 36.6 They take the single on the final ball! Bizarre. JH taps this wide of mid on and scampers through. 10 from the over, as Australia reach a respectable 150. 150/9
  • 36.5 Down the leg side, helped towards mid-wicket.
  • 36.4 On middle and off, solidly defended.
  • 36.3 FOUR! Nicely done! Hazlewood is not going to end the innings without anything against his name. A short ball outside off, Josh waits for it to come and ramps it over the slip cordon to the third man fence!
  • 36.2 Short and outside off, Nathan tries to cut but gets a bottom edge towards the off side. A quick single taken.
  • 36.1 FOUR! PLUNDERED! Coulter-Nile is carrying his batting form from the Middle East. A short ball, around off, the fast bowler pulls it through square leg and the ball races to the fence! He is onto 32 from 26 balls, with his 5th four.
  • Josh Hazlewood is the last man in. Around 10 minutes left to make South Africa bat again till the scheduled mid-innings break.
  • 35.6 OUT! Three reds and Australia are 9 down. The frustrating stand for the South Africans has come to an end. The leggie from Tahir on middle, it pitches and turns back in. Starc goes back and tries to flick but misses to get hit on the pads. The players appeal and the umpire raises his finger. Starc signals the 'T' and the replays show the umpire has given the correct decision. 140/9
  • Starc has been given LBW but he reviews. Looks close. Could go either way.
  • 35.5 FOUR! This is very frustrating for South Africa. The stand is now worth 33. Starc goes for the sweep but it goes off the inner half through square leg for a boundary.
  • 35.4 Good stop! Tosses it up around off, it is hit towards the bowler who makes a good stop diving to his right.
  • 35.3 Leg byes! Poor ball, it is down the leg side, Nathan misses the flick. The ball brushes the pads and goes down towards fine leg. Three taken.
  • 35.2 Flatter on off, the batsman guides it towards covers. The fielder fumbles and concedes a run.
  • 35.1 Fires it on off, the batsman defends it out.
  • 34.6 SIX! All the way! Short and on middle, Nathan takes the challenge on of playing the pull. It is right off the middle and over the fence. 132/8
  • 34.5 Angles it into the batter. Starc flicks it through square leg for a run.
  • 34.4 BEATEN! Outside off, Starc goes after it away from his body but misses.
  • 34.3 In the air... safe! Full and on off, Starc tries to go downtown but it is not off the middle. However, he has enough for the ball to clear mid off. Two taken.
  • 34.2 Back of a length on off, kept out.
  • 34.2 WIDE! Down the leg side, left alone. Wided.
  • 34.1 Outside off, left alone.
  • Andile Phehlukwayo is back on.
  • 33.6 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground. 122/8
  • 33.5 Floats it up on off, driven to covers.
  • 33.4 FOUR! Not convincing but Australia will take it. Nathan first moves right across and tries to sweep. The ball is bowled too wide outside off, he adjusts and tries to hit it through the off side. The ball takes the outside edge and goes through the short third man region for a boundary.
  • 33.3 How has that missed the off pole? This lands around off, Nathan goes for the sweep but he misses. The ball pitches and then turns away and goes very close past the off pole.
  • 33.2 Flatter on off, kept out.
  • 33.1 OHHH! The leggie on off, Nathan by staying rooted in his crease tries to defend but gets beaten.
  • 32.6 FOUR! Starc now gets into the act! Full and around off, it is hit back past the bowler and another boundary. Good over for Australia this, 11 from it. 118/8
  • 32.5 Angles it into the batsman, he flicks it through square leg for a run.
  • 32.4 Full again on middle, the batter works it to mid on.
  • 32.3 FOUR! Nathan is going for it I feel. He has nothing to lose at the moment. Full and around off, NCN smashes it over long off for a boundary.
  • 32.2 On the pads, flicked through mid-wicket for a couple.
  • 32.1 Good length on off, straightens a touch. Nathan tries to defend but gets an outside edge, on the bounce to gully.
  • 31.6 The googly outside off, Starc goes for the drive but is beaten. 107/8
  • Mitchell Starc is the new man in.
  • 31.5 OUT! In the air... taken! 150th ODI wicket for Imran Tahir. Carey may have over done it there. He again goes for the sweep but the ball hits the top edge and lobs up in the air over the keeper's head. De Kock tracks back and takes an easy catch. An appeal and the umpire raises his finger. Australia's top scorer and the last recognized batsman is walking back.
  • 31.4 Another sweep this time gets it past that fielder. Runs the first one hard and goes for the second. Dives to get in as the keeper whips the bails off.
  • 31.3 Now brings the sweep out but finds square leg.
  • 31.2 FOUR! Innovation and it comes off. Goes down and one knee and then reverse sweeps it through backward point for a boundary.
  • 31.1 Flatter and on middle, the batsman keeps it out.
  • 30.6 Better! Makes a leave to a ball which is outside off. 101/7
  • 30.5 Hello, where did that come from? Full and outside off, the batter tries to go big but misses.
  • 30.4 Squared up! Excellent comeback ball. On a length and around middle, it straightens after pitching. Nathan tries to defend but is squared up. Gets beaten.
  • 30.3 FOUR! Solid! Short of the innings so far! Brings up the 100. Full and on off, NCN shows the full face of the bat and hits it through mid off.
  • 30.2 Angles it into the batter, it is workd towards mid on for a run.
  • 30.1 Length outside off, left alone.
  • 29.6 That has missed everything. The googly and this one turns back in from outside off. Nathan tries to defend but the ball goes between bat and pad and goes agonizingly close past the off pole. 96/7
  • 29.5 Shorter and quicker on off, kept out.
  • 29.4 FOUR! Vital runs these for Australia. Tossed up outside off, it is a little too full. Nathan hits it hard through covers and the ball races away.
  • 29.3 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 29.2 Slower through the air around off, it turns away. Nathan tries to defend but gets an outside edge through short third man for a couple.
  • 29.1 Flatter on middle, kept out.
  • 28.6 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery. 90/7
  • 28.5 Slightly shorter on off, NCN guides it down to third man for a single.
  • 28.4 A snorter to get first up. Sloghtly short and on middle, Nathan at the very end evades it.
  • Nathan Coulter-Nile is the new man in.
  • 28.3 OUT! Cummins is well short despite the dive! There was never a run there. Carey taps this length ball towards covers and he wants a run. Cummins responds. Miller from that region, gets to the ball quickly and underarm flicks it while falling over. He hits the stumps at the keeper's end. The players appeal and the umpire takes it upstairs. Replays roll in and it shows Australia have lost their 7th. Outstanding from Miller as he breaks a partnership that was starting to frustrate the South Africans.
  • Brilliant effort from Miller. Has he run out Cummins or has the dive saved him? The umpire has gone upstairs.
  • 28.2 Back of a length on off, kept out.
  • 28.1 Good length around off, Carey did what he has done really well today, leave it.
  • Kagiso Rabada is back on.
  • 27.6 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground. 89/6
  • 27.5 Slower through the air again but no turn ths time. Cummins keeps it out.
  • 27.4 Slower through the air and gets it to turn away. Cummins plays inside the line, gets an outside edge towards third man for a couple.
  • 27.3 Flatter on off, Cummins is solid in defense.
  • 27.2 A forward defense to a ball on off.
  • 27.1 Tosses it up on off, Cummins plays it out.
  • 26.6 A single to end! Cummins really played that over well. This is guided down to third man for a run. 87/6
  • 26.5 Goes back to bowling length outside off, Cummins shoulders arms to it.
  • 26.4 Another bumper, ducked under.
  • 26.3 Just outside off, PC makes a very good leave.
  • 26.2 Edged but well shot! Back of a length on off, straightens a touch, Cummins tries to defend but gets an outside edge which goes on the bounce to the first slip fielder.
  • 26.1 A bumper, left alone.
  • 25.6 On the pads, the batsman fails to flick and is hit on the pads. 86/6
  • 25.5 On the pads, worked to mid-wicket.
  • 25.4 Flatter on off, kept out.
  • 25.3 The batsman plays a sweep shot.
  • 25.2 NOT OUT! There is an inside edge so South Africa lose their sole review. Carey brings out the reverse sweep. He seems to have missed the ball. The players appeal but the umpire shakes his head. South Africa review. Replay shows there is an inside edge.
  • Howzzat? The answer to that question is not out. An LBW appeal has been turned down but South Africa review. Carey is the man in question. Impact can be an issue.
  • 25.1 FOUR! TOP SHOT! Trademark Carey! This is tossed up on off, Carey goes down on one knee and then slog sweeps it over mid-wicket for a boundary.
  • 24.6 Once again the length is perfect but the line is a little too wide outside off, left. 82/6
  • 24.5 Good length around off, this is guided through point for a run.
  • 24.4 On the pads, flicked through square leg and run three.
  • 24.3 A little too straight, Cummins works it to mid-wicket.
  • 24.2 Lovely! A bit of swing on this one. It shapes away from outside off, Cummins first thinks of playing at it, then shoulders arms.
  • 24.1 Starts off with a length ball outside off, the batsman makes a leave.
  • Dale Steyn is back on.

  • 22.2 Back of a length on off, guided to point.

  • 21.6 Tosses this up outside off, the batsman goes for the sweep but misses. Expensive beginning for Tahir. 74/6

  • 21.4 Flatter on off, kept out.
  • 21.3 Shortish around off, Carey pulls it through square leg for a run.
  • 21.2 This is worked towards mid-wicket for a quick run.
  • 21.1 Goes down on one knee and plays the paddle through short fine leg. Three taken.
  • Pat Cummins strides out to the middle. Also Imran Tahir is into the attack.
  • 20.6 OUT! Andile gets his third! Poor, just poor by Stoinis. Not sure if this shot was needed. Yes, the shot might have been on, but in the current situation, he need not have hit it in the air. Full and on middle, Stoinis tries to clear mid on but does not get the desired elevation. Klaasen there takes an easy catch. 66/6
  • 20.5 Shortish outside off, Stoinis cuts it through point and takes a brace.
  • 20.5 Down the leg side, wided.
  • 20.4 Good length, defended.
  • 20.3 Fullish and on off, stroked towards covers.
  • 20.2 FOUR! Poor ball and put away! Down the leg side, Stoinis flicks it fine on the leg side. Boundary.
  • 20.1 Good length outside off, it is driven through covers for a run.
  • 19.6 A beauty to end! On a length and around off, once again it straightens a touch. MS tries to block it out but gets beaten. 58/5
  • 19.5 Pushed to the cover region by the batsman.
  • 19.4 EDGED AND THROUGH SLIPS! FOUR! Stoinis was lucky there and luck is something Australia desperately need at the moment. Around off and it straightens a touch. Stoinis tries to defend but the ball takes the outside edge. Goes between the diving slip fielders and into the third man fence. He had played that with soft hands, not sure if it would have carried.
  • 19.3 Lovely stuff! Around off, Stoinis plays inside the line and the ball goes past the outside edge.
  • 19.2 LEG BYE! Angles it into the batter. Carey tries to nudge it around the corner but misses. The ball hits his thigh pad and rolls towards the off side. A run taken.

  • 18.4 Outside off, left alone.
  • 18.3 Full and on the pads, Marcus flicks it through square leg for a couple.
  • 18.2 NOT OUT! No edge on it and the impact was outside off. Good review by Marcus. On a length and around off, it comes back in. Stoinis tries to defend but the ball goes off the something towards the keeper who dives to his right and takes it. The players appeal and the umpire raises his finger. Stoinis reviews it immediately. Replays roll in and it shows the on-field call has to be overturned. Australia will breathe a sigh of relief as Stoinis survives.
  • Stoinis has been given out! Not sure for LBW or caught behind. He reviews though.
  • 18.2 WIDE! Down the leg side and it has been wided.
  • Marcus Stoinis is the new man in.
  • 18.1 OUT! The fingers are underneath the ball and Australia have half the side back in the hut. Maxwell departs immediately after coping a blow to his hand. A soft dismissal you can say. Andile bowls it slightly slower on middle, Maxwell is foxed there, he goes for the drive but due to the lack of pace on the delivery, he is early into the shot. Ends up chipping it towards mid on. Klaasen there seems to have taken it inches above the ground. Maxwell though is not convinced and holds his ground. The umpires have a chat and then take it upstairs. The soft signal is out. Replays roll in and the third umpire rules it in the favor of the fielding side. Maxwell is unhappy as he walks back. He fails to make an impact.
  • Big moment in the game! They have gone upstairs to check if the catch has been taken cleanly. The soft signal is out. Maxwell s the man in question.
  • Out comes the physio to have a look at the thump of Maxwell. The physio does his job and Maxwell seems fine to continue now.
  • 17.6 OUCH! That must have hurt! That took off from the good length area. Maxwell tries to defend but is surprised by the bounce. The ball hits him on the glove and goes past point for a run. He is in pain here. 48/4
  • 17.5 Fuller and on off, Maxwell strokes it to mid off.
  • 17.4 FOUR! Maxwell has come out with intent here. Fuller in length and Maxwell shows the full face of the bat and times it through mid on. His second boundary in 5 balls.
  • 17.3 Excellent fielding effort! This will only build the pressure on Australia. Short and outside off, Carey cuts it towards point. Markram there dives to his left and makes a very good stop. A run taken.
  • 17.2 Gets this one to jag back in. Maxwell somehow plays it down to fine leg for a run.
  • 17.1 Beauty to begin his new spell! Good length and moving away after pitching. Maxwell tries to keep it out but is beaten.
  • Lungi Ngidi is back on.
  • 16.6 BEATEN! A top nut to end! On a length around off, it comes in with the angle which means the batsman has to play at it. It then pitches and moves away whizzing past the outside edge. 41/4
  • 16.5 Good length around off, kept out.
  • 16.4 On a length around middle, Maxwell works it towards mid on for a run.
  • 16.3 FOUR! Off the mark in style! Walks right across and flicks it fine down the leg side. The ball races away. He had to hit that or he was plumb in front.
  • Glenn Maxwell is the new man in.
  • 16.2 OUT! Snicko shows a spike and Lynn is given his marching orders! Judicious use of the review by South Africa and Lynn who got through the tough part, falls when it has probably got a touch easy. Another poor shot to be honest. It is slightly short and outside off, Lynn goes for the cut but there seems to be some noise as the ball passes the bat. De Kock dives forward and takes it. He appeals but the umpire shakes his head. The keeper wants it to be reviewed and Faf signals the 'T'. Replays roll in and it shows bat was involved. The on-field call has to be overturned and Australia slip further.
  • Review time! Have South Africa got another? An appeal for a caught behind has been turned down. De Kock is confident there is an edge. Lynn is the man in question.
  • 16.1 Good length and attacking the off pole. Lynn keeps it out.
  • DRINKS BREAK.
  • 15.6 Outside off, let through. 36/3
  • 15.5 The batsman lets the ball go outside his off stump.
  • 15.4 Full and outside off, driven through the covers for a single.
  • 15.3 Full and just around off, watchfully defended.
  • 15.2 FOUR! MURDERED! A rare loose ball, short and wide outside off, Lynn blasts it through the covers and gets a boundary!
  • 15.1 On a length outside off, Lynn plays a very loose shot, towards cover. Just sense that he is looking to cut loose.
  • 14.6 Just outside off, pushed towards cover. 31/3
  • 14.5 Full and just around middle, watchfully defended. Michael Hussey on air feels that Carey has looked more decisive with his footwork so far.
  • 14.4 Short and wide outside off, slapped through the covers for a run. Moves to 10 from 26 balls.
  • 14.3 Outside off, steered behind point for a single.
  • 14.2 On a length just around off, watchfully pushed towards mid off.
  • 14.1 Full on middle, angling in, flicked through square leg for a couple. The stand moves to 21 from 50 balls.
  • Andile Phehlukwayo into the attack now. A bit of respite for Australia?
  • 13.6 Landed outside off, CL has a dab at that but then takes his bat away. Or tries to. Is beaten. 27/3
  • 13.5 Full and outside off, pushed towards mid off.
  • 13.4 On a length outside off, comes back in sharply again, Chris is beaten all ends up as he looks to defend. The ball goes between bat and pad but over the stumps. Good take by de Kock too.
  • 13.3 Played through mid-wicket by the batsman. They pick up a single.
  • 13.2 Outside off, left alone.
  • 13.1 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 12.6 Full and just outside off, pushed towards mid off. 26/3
  • 12.5 LUCKY! Nearly played on! Full and outside off, Carey pushes at the ball tentatively and as a result, is beaten by the inward movement. Gets a thick inside edge which just misses the stumps, enroute fine leg. A single taken.
  • 12.4 DROPPED? Probably not. Bye signalled. On a length outside off, Lynn looks to defend but the ball jags back in sharply. There is a noise as the ball goes past the batsman and flies to the keeper, who, in turn, flies to his left but cannot hang on. Ngidi was about to appeal for the catch but then has his hands on his head. Everyone is closely looking at the umpire but he signals a bye. Replays detect that the ball hit the shirt. Harsh on the keeper.
  • 12.3 On a length outside off, extra bounce, Alex plays that down nicely towards point for a single.
  • 12.2 Just outside off, little away movement, shouldered arms to again.
  • 12.1 Good judgement. On a length around middle, Carey trusts the bounce and lets it go. The ball goes over the stumps.
  • 11.6 FOUR! Finally a boundary for Australia! A full toss, on middle, Lynn does not overhit it. Just pushes it down the ground and beats Imran Tahir chasing it from mid off. Just feel that the straight boundaries are shorter. 23/3
  • 11.5 Beauty! 'Whoooo!' screams Adam Gilchrist on air. What a delivery. On a length, outside off, Lynn looks to play at that but the ball kicks off after pitching and beats the outside edge. This is exciting cricket to watch - much better than the ones on slow and low tracks.
  • 11.4 Just outside off, pushed towards cover.
  • 11.3 A length ball outside off, blasted towards mid off.
  • 11.2 Played to the point region by the batsman.
  • 11.1 Outside off, left alone.
  • 10.6 A length ball just outside off, pushed back to the bowler. 19/3
  • 10.5 Extra bounce again, down the leg side, Carey plays it down very, very uncomfortably. run.
  • 10.4 Pitched on a good length, around middle, angling away, AC looks to flick but misses and is hit on the body.
  • 10.3 On middle and leg, pushed towards mid on.
  • 10.2 On a length outside off, extra bounce, Alex fends it down rather uncomfortably.
  • 10.1 Superb start from this end too. Absolutely no letup from the Proteas. This is pitched on a length outside off, Carey feels for it but the ball zips past the outside edge. Vroooooom...
  • Powerplay 2 has been signaled! Now a maximum of 4 fielders can be placed outside the ring till the 40th over. Also, Ngidi has changed ends.
  • 9.6 A single to end. Fuller on off, Carey goes for the drive but it goes off the inner half towards mid on for a run. End of Powerplay 1 and it has been dominated by South Africa. Australia are 19 for 3. 19/3
  • 9.5 Well bowled and well played! Good cricket all around. Hits the length around off, it keeps coming in with the angle. Carey does well to move his gloves out of the way and make a leave.
  • 9.4 Changes the angle and bowls it on off, Carey lunges to defend but the ball hits the higher portion of the bat and goes towards covers.
  • 9.3 Outside off and on a length, Carey makes another leave.
  • 9.2 Good leave! That was left on length we feel. Slightly behind the length ball around off, Carey lets it be.
  • 9.1 Good length and outside off, the batsman shoulders arms to it.
  • 8.6 Another three! Fuller again and Carey drives it off the middle through covers. The outfield here does not seem that quick and the batsmen get three. Still no boundary for the Aussies. 18/3
  • 8.5 Closer to the off pole this time but not close enough for the batsman to play it.
  • 8.4 Goes full and outside off, Carey drives it nicely but can't find the gap on the off side.
  • 8.3 Three leaves in a row a Steyn bowls it outside off.
  • 8.2 A little too wide outside off to make the batsman play.
  • 8.1 Outside off, left alone.
  • 7.6 A couple to end the over! Rabada goes for the yorker but ends up bowling a full toss. Lynn flicks it through wide mid on and takes a couple. So even the full toss is not being put away, the Australians are playing with a cautious mindset at the moment. 15/3
  • 7.5 Back of a length around off, Lynn plays it by taking a hand off the handle. The ball goes towards the slip cordon.
  • 7.4 Brute of a delivery that! Probably the first bouncer today and it is a good one. Carey does well to evade it. Too fast for de Kock behind the stumps as he fails to collect it and it goes towards fine leg. The batsmen run a bye.
  • 7.3 Outside off, left alone.
  • 7.2 BEATEN! Excellent use of the angle! Around off and it slants away. Carey tries to block but is beaten.
  • 7.1 On off, kept out.
  • Kagiso Rabada is into the attack.
  • 6.6 A dot to end as Lynn pushes it towards point. 12/3
  • 6.5 The batsman defends it from within the crease.
  • 6.4 Carey is away! Nice shot! This is full and outside off, Alex times it through cover-point. Due to the big boundaries here, it does not get to the fence. Three taken.
  • 6.3 A single as the ball is guided down towards third man.
  • 6.2 Well fielded! Lynn drives this crisply towards covers. The fielder there dives to his right and saves a few runs for his side. This is just brilliant from South Africa, their bowlers are doing brilliantly and their fielders are backing them up.
  • 6.1 What a nut to begin this over! Back of a length and it moves away after pitching. Lynn plays inside the line and gets beaten.
  • 5.6 The batsman works it down the leg side. A successful over comes to an end and Ngidi's figures read 3-2-2-1. 8/3
  • Alex Carey is the new man in.
  • 5.5 OUT! LBW! Another one bites the dust and it is the big one, of the Australian skipper. Ngidi gets his first and the new-ball bowlers are wrecking havoc here. This was nicely set up, he kept bowling the awayswingers but this time gets it to jag back in after pitching on a length and around off. Finch is not able to adjust to the movement and he fails to put bat on ball. It hits him on the pads. The players appeal and the umpire raises his finger. Finch has a word with Lynn and then starts walking. But hold on.. replays show the ball to be going over. Now then, Finch is arguably Australia's best batsman, wonder why he did not take the review. South Africa won't care though and Australia slip further.
  • 5.4 Almost another one there and it would have been in a similar manner to how the previous two wickets fell. Fuller and outside off, once again it pitches and zips off the surface. Finch tries to go through the off side but gets beaten.
  • 5.3 Continues to bowl it around off, Finch blocks it out.
  • 5.2 Corrects his length and bowls it around off, it is driven to mid off.
  • 5.1 First runs of Ngidi! Slightly straighter in line, Finch works it through square leg and takes two.
  • 4.6 Another maiden! Their third maiden in five overs. Around off and skids through after pitching. Lynn tries to leave it but the ball hits the bat and goes towards point. Lynn was a touch late there, Australia struggling to adapt to the pace of the wicket. 6/2
  • 4.5 A little too wide outside off, the batsman need not play at those.
  • 4.4 JAFFA! You just have to hope these miss the outside edge! Back of a length around off, it pitches and then shapes away. Lynn tries to block it out but the ball whizzes past the outside edge.
  • 4.3 Hits the length hard and bowls it around off, kept out.
  • 4.2 Well bowled and equally well played! The awayswinger and it starts from the leg pole. Lynn does not make the mistake of playing across the line and defends it back to the bowler.
  • 4.1 Back of a length around off, Lynn stands tall and keeps it out.
  • 3.6 Yes, he can! On a length and around off, this is angled into the batter. Finch tries to defend but the ball takes the inside edge and goes towards mid-wicket. 6/2
  • 3.5 Lovely stuff! Another length ball and this one darts away a touch from outside off, Finch lets it be. Can Ngidi bowl two maidens in a row?
  • 3.4 Again, in the 5th stump channel. Finch shoulders arms to it.
  • 3.3 Back of a length again around off, Finch can only block it out. This is top stuff from the visitors' pacers.
  • 3.2 Good length and around off, kept out.
  • 3.1 Good length outside off, left alone.
  • 2.6 A couple to end a double-wicket over! On the pads, it is flicked through square leg and a couple is taken. 6/2
  • 2.5 OUT! Two in the over and Steyn is breathing fire here. D'Arcy Short bags a duck and Australia are in trouble early. A similar delivery to the one he got Head with. This though is even wider. Short goes for a booming drive but the ball takes a thick outside edge and flies towards Faf at second slip. He takes a tumbling catch. The South Africans are ecstatic.
  • Chris Lynn strides out to the middle.
  • 2.4 The batsman was beaten and missed the line of the delivery.
  • D'Arcy Short makes his way out to the middle.
  • 2.3 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Steyn draws first blood. Excellent delivery that. An effort ball on the fuller side, it is bowled at 142 kph. Also seams away a touch from the off pole. Head goes for a drive but with minimal foot movement. The ball takes the outside edge and goes into the mitts of the keeper. Ideal start for South Africa after opting to bowl.
  • 2.2 Good running! On a length and around middle, Finch tucks it towards mid on for a quick run.
  • 2.1 Once again good shape away from the batsman and it is pitched on middle. Finch gets behind the line and keeps it out.
  • 1.6 Maiden for Ngidi to begin with. On middle and Head flicks it towards mid on. 3/0
  • 1.5 Make that 5! On a length and around off, kept out.
  • 1.4 4 dots for Ngidi to begin with! Back of a length again around off, Head stands tall and punches it to covers.
  • 1.3 BEATEN! Pace and bounce there! On a length and around off, it slants away from the batsman. It skids off the surface and also takes off after pitching. Head plays inside the line and gets beaten.
  • 1.2 Slightly fuller this time and the line is around off, no swing for the Ngidi. Head is solid in defense.
  • 1.1 Ngidi starts off with a back of a length ball around off, Head, off the back foot, blocks it.
  • Lungi Ngidi to bowl with the second new ball.
  • 0.6 A dot to end the first! Back of a length around off, kept out. 3/0
  • 0.5 Once again it is on a length and just outside off, Finch makes another leave.
  • 0.4 Better from Steyn! Lands it on a length and outside off, the batsman makes a leave.
  • 0.3 A little too straight again! Steyn is looking to swing it from the leg stump to the off. It however does not swing and Finch clips it through square leg for a couple. The Australian skipper is off the mark.
  • 0.2 Australia are underway! This is flicked through the mid-wicket area for a single.
  • 0.1 A beauty first up! Also some swing for Steyn. He lands it on a back of a length around off, this seams away after pitching. Head tries to keep it out off the back foot but gets beaten.
  • We are all set for the action to begin. Travis Head and Aaron Finch are the openers. Dale Steyn has the first new ball in hand. Two slips in place. Here we go...
  • Australia (Playing XI) - Aaron Finch(c), Travis Head, D'Arcy Short, Chris Lynn, Alex Carey(w), Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood.
  • South Africa (Playing XI) - Quinton de Kock(w), Aiden Markram, Reeza Hendricks, Faf du Plessis(c), Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dale Steyn, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Imran Tahir.
  • TOSS - South Africa win the toss and elect to field. They have gone in with three pacers and a specialist spinner. The Aussies on the flip side, have not picked a specialist spinner and have gone in with 4 quicks. However, both the sides have exciting bowling line-ups and it should be treat to watch.
  • Hello and welcome to the coverage of the first ODI between Australia and South Africa in Perth. The hosts are going through a rough patch at the moment, especially in this format. They though will be high in confidence and one can say, they enter into the contest as favorites. Who will have the edge after ODI no. 1? Stay tuned to find out.

Australia Vs South Africa Live Score (ODI) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • So that is it from this game. The South Africans have cruised to victory and taken a 1-0 lead. They now have a chance to seal the series in the next game which will be played on the 9th of November at 1.50 PM local (3.20 AM GMT). However for now, you can switch tabs and watch the Test match between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Take care and cheers.
  • DALE STEYN HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. Is first of all, relieved that he has been able to finish a match in Australia without breaking down. Says that the bowlers were excited to get the first use of the wicket and even though there were runs to be scored on this pitch, if the balls were pitched in the right areas, you could get wickets. Does not believe that the wickets he got were his best balls and notes that Head and Short played straight and hence got out. Observes that Carey played square, hence got the runs. So that was the small difference. Is happy to keep the Australian batsmen quiet as he reckons that they are bullies in domestic cricket. On the camaraderie with his bowling mates, Steyn says that he always challenges them to try and take the next wicket first.
  • Victorious South African skipper Faf du Plessis is very happy with the team's display. Is even happier to have Dale Steyn back but is proud of the way all his three seamers bowled. On Hendricks' batting, Faf says that on surfaces like these, where the bounce is tricky, he batted like an experienced individual. Is happy to have taken a couple of good catches. On the overall display, he feels that towards the end, the Proteas let it slip a bit, as they could have won by 8 wickets but will take the win.
  • Australian captain, Aaron Finch admits that he is disappointed as the team did not play anywhere near its potential. Praises the South African bowling for putting the Aussies on the back foot early. On the message to his team, Aaron says that the loss is a great opportunity to learn and all they can do now is train harder, do the basics, pay a little bit of more attention to detail and come back fresh for the second ODI in Adelaide. Is harsh on his bowlers, clearly not happy with the way they gave away free runs. Dodges the question of not opening with Mitchell Starc. Hopes to come back hard in the next game.
  • Marcus Stoinis who is now giving for interview, says today was disappointing. Adds further they still have two games left and will look to bounce back. Reckons the wicket was a tough one to bat on. He believes the whole team together is responsible for this loss. He feels good to take the wickets he did. Ends by saying the coach will have a chat with the team and they hope to recover and come out fighting in the next game.
  • Quinton de Kock who is up for an interview, says the start with the ball and the bat was very crucial. Mentions he is disappointed with how he got out as he feels he could have been there till the end. Reckons Australia will surely come out fighting in the next game and they can't be taken lightly. Credits the way Rabada bowled.
  • Defending a paltry total, Australia needed wickets early but that was not the case. Their bowlers could not repeat the heroics of their opposition bowlers. They bowled well in patches but there were quite a few poor deliveries too. Pat Cummins did impress but he was unlucky. Stoinis had a three-fer to his name but by then, the game was probably done and dusted.
  • South Africa's batsmen also did not disappoint as their openers did bulk of the scoring. The two will be disappointed to miss out on half tons but their 94-run stand more-or-less sealed the deal. They did lose a couple of quick wickets in the end but by that time, it was probably too late.
  • How easy was that for South Africa? They have chased this total down with ease. They looked like they were batting on completely different strip to that of the Australians. After bundling the hosts out for a very low total, with every bowler except for Rabada taking wickets. Steyn set the tone at the start and they never let the momentum slip after that. Andile Phehlukwayo was the one with the most wickets to his name as he finished with three. The rest, including, Rabada were equally impressive. It is them who set this up for their batters.
  • 29.2 That is it! Miller finishes it off on his very first ball. Gets a gift to do so, on the pads, Miller flicks it through square leg and takes two. Customary handshakes taking place as SOUTH AFRICA WIN BY 6 WICKETS!
  • David Miller is the new man in.
  • 29.1 OUT! There goes another one! It though won't make a difference in the context of the game. But delight for Stoinis as he gets his third. Klaasen goes for the drive on the up, the ball takes the outside edge and goes towards Finch at first slip. He takes a very good catch.
  • 28.6 Fuller around off, Klaasen guides it down to third man for another single. 2 needed. 151/3

  • 27.4 Good bumper but Klaasen plays it well as he guides it down to third man.
  • 27.3 Fullsih around off, the batsman drives it to point.
  • Heinrich Klaasen walks out to bat.
  • 27.2 OUT! Drags it on! Markram does not stay there till the end. Stoinis gets his second. A poor shot. It was bowled short and wide outside off. Markram goes for the cut, way away from his body. Also no foot movement on that one. It takes the inside edge and it clips the leg pole.
  • 27.1 Back of a length around off, Markram guides it towards the slip region. The fielder has a shy at the non-striker's end but misses.

  • 25.5 Good fielding! Fuller in length around off, it is stroked towards mid off. Cummins there dives to his left and makes a good stop. Can't stop the single though.
  • 25.4 On middle, eased to mid on.

  • 24.3 Angles it into the batter, it is worked towards mid-wicket.
  • 24.2 Back of a length on off, it is pushed towards covers.

  • 23.6 The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball. 130/2
  • 23.5 Outside off, dabbed to third man for a single.
  • 23.4 IN THE AIR... BUT SAFE. A short ball, around middle, Aiden looks to pull but the bounce does him in. Takes the top edge which lands safely in front of square leg. By the time Mitchell Starc can get to the ball from fine leg, a couple taken.
  • 23.3 MISFIELD, FOUR! Sloppy from Lynn. Sloppy from Australia. Talks about their mental state right now. On a length, around middle, Markram pushes it towards mid on. Chris Lynn gets across, attempts to stop the ball with a ginger tumble but does not even get his hands to the ball. It goes through and even manages to touch the ropes.
  • 23.2 Full and outside off, driven back to the bowler.
  • 23.1 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • ChuriTheKnife - This has been an awesome performance by South Africa. Do you think they can lift the World Cup this time? @ChuriTheKnife - Ummmm.... not too sure. They have played well but Australia have been sub-standard. Hard to keep SA as favourites with India and England in such good form.
  • 22.6 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat. 123/2
  • 22.5 Outside off, let through once more.

  • Skipper Faf du Plessis walks in at number 4, for the final rites of the game.
  • 21.6 OUT! And now, Hendricks departs. Like de Kock, he too, misses out on his half century. A length ball, on middle and leg, Hendricks looks to work it to the leg side but the ball bounces from nowhere. Probably hit that spot on the pitch where the explosions have been taking place. As a result, the ball flies off the top portion of the bat towards mid on where Chris Lynn does the rest. Something for the Aussies to smile. Certainly Marcus Stoinis is pumped up. 122/2
  • 21.5 Another one hits the batsman. Pitched on a length outside off, zipping back in, Reeza looks to flick but misses and is hit on the groin. He has taken a lot of blows today.

  • 18.6 Another nice shot but once again it is well fielded. Maxwell is the man again. This is driven square on the off side. Maxwell gives it chase and just about pulls it back in. Three taken. 103/1
  • 18.5 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 18.4 Good length on off, kept out.

  • 17.5 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 17.5 NOT OUT. Nothing on the Snicko. A short ball, down the leg side, Markram looks to pull but misses. There is a noise as the ball passes the bat and Carey appeals. Umpire Aleem Dar thinks for a while and then raises his finger! Markram immediately takes the review and first we check the Hot Spot. Nothing. Then, the Snickometer. Nothing on it either. Move on. It is a wide as well.
  • Has that been caught behind? Umpire Aleem Dar thinks so. Not Markram. He has reviewed it.

  • DRINKS BREAK. Some respite for Australia. Though, they have only 58 runs more to defend. Can they pick up 3-4 more wickets? Here's Aiden Markram.
  • 16.4 OUT! Stop the press. Australia have picked up a wicket. Full and outside off, probably a touch slower in pace. De Kock looks to go over the top but this time, gets more height than distance. Easy catch for Josh Hazlewood moving to his left from mid off. Misses out on a half century and also what would have been the first century opening stand for South Africa since October 2017.
  • 16.3 FOUR! Terrific batting! De Kock is toying with the bowling. A length ball, down the leg side, Quinton just whips it over square leg and gets a boundary! 59 more needed to win now!
  • 16.2 That is a sharp delivery, on a shorter length, Hendricks looks to sway out of the way but the ball hits his right shoulder and goes towards first slip. However, Aaron Finch fumbles and an alert de Kock calls his partner through for a single.

  • 14.5 Terrific yorker, swinging in as well, but nicely dug out.
  • 14.4 On middle and leg, pushed towards mid on for a quick run.
  • 14.3 FOUR! Flashed and flashed hard! Fortune favours the brave. Any sort of width and de Kock pounces. This was short and outside off, plenty of width and Quinton just slashed it over first slip to the third man fence. That is his value for South Africa. Always comes at the opposition bowlers.
  • 14.2 This is driven uppishly but lands just short of a diving point. A single taken.

  • 10.5 In the air but in the gap! Shortish outside off, Reeza punches it through covers for a couple.
  • 10.4 Well bowled and well played! Short and at the body of the batsman. Keeps rising on him. RZ plays it by taking one hand off the handle and hence it dies onto the ground.
  • 10.4 WIDE! The sucker ball way outside off, Hendricks goes after it but misses.
  • 10.3 Shorter on off, RH pushes it to mid off.
  • 10.2 Good fielding! Short and outside off, de Kock cuts it towards cover-point. Travis Head there dives to his right, makes a stop and also has a shy at the non-striker's end but misses.
  • 10.1 Drive and a miss! Similar ball to the one Short got out to. Full and outside off at good pace. Luckily for de Kock though it does not take his edge.
  • Powerplay 2 has been signaled! Now a maximum of 4 fielders can be placed outside the ring till the 40th over. Not sure if the game would last till then. Also, change of ends for Mitchell Starc.
  • 9.6 BEAUTY! Does not bowl it short. Instead he goes length around off, this one also shapes away. Hendricks is deep inside his crease expecting the short one. He tries to defend it by staying within his crease and gets beaten. 57/0

  • 8.5 On the pads, flicked towards square leg.
  • 8.4 Good length around off, kept out.
  • 8.3 Good bowling! We saw Maxwell cop a blow in the first innings to a similar delivery. De Kock though played it better here. It was on a length and around off, it takes off after pitching. De Kock loosens his grip and plays it down onto the ground.
  • 8.2 Angles this into the pads, de Kock misses the flick and gets hit high on the thigh pad.
  • 8.1 Shortish and outside off, de Kock guides it through point and takes two.

  • 7.5 Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 7.4 FOUR! That went to the fence like a tracer bullet. 50 up for South Africa and they are cruising along at the moment. • 6.5 Make that 107. Excellent running once again. It is on the pads, de Kock again flicks it through mid-wicket. They run two and then see an opportunity for the third, go for it and complete it with ease.
  • 6.4 FOUR! Picks it up with ease! Yes, it is a bad ball but it still has to be put away. On the pads, de Kock flicks it over square leg for a boundary. 110 more needed.
  • 6.3 Slightly fuller again around off, the batsman pushes it to mid off.
  • 6.2 A muted appeal but not given! On a length, pitched outside leg. De Kock tries to flick but misses to get hit on the pads.
  • 6.1 Another three to begin this over. Fuller again around off, looking for some swing but there ain't any. RH times it through covers and runs three.
  • Josh Hazlewood to bowl from the other end.
  • 5.6 Good fielding! Desperate stuff! Full and around off, Reeza drives it square on the off side. Maxwell gives it a chase. He does not give up and right at the end, he flicks it back in. Saves a run. So a good first over after the break for South Africa, 8 from it. 36/0
  • 5.5 Good running! De Kock strokes it towards wide mid off for a quick run.
  • 5.4 A huge shout but not given! On the pads, de Kock goes for the flick but misses to get hit on the pads. An appeal follows but not given. Finch thinks about a review but Starc is not interested and rightly so as it is slipping down leg,
  • 5.3 A little too straight from Starc, QdK flicks it through square leg and takes two. Once again, he is just using the pace of Starc.
  • 5.2 Shortens his length but the line is outside off, left alone.
  • 5.1 A positive start by de Kock. He pushes this full delivery through covers and bags a brace.
  • We are back after the break! Australians are seen in a huddle and now Finch leads them out. Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks follow and they will resume their innings. Mitchell Starc will start the proceedings for Australia. Here we go...
  • South Africa's quick start means that they need another 125 to win. That could be JUST 125 or STILL 125, depending on how confident are the Aussies in defending this total. JOIN US BACK AT 3.35 pm local (0735 GMT).
  • Another superb passage of play for the Proteas. The Australians will be deflated there. They would have been hoping for a wicket at least but the bowling was not at its best. Probably the case of trying too hard to pick up wickets?
  • 4.6 Outside off, punched towards mid off. THAT WILL BE LUNCH! 28/0
  • 4.5 Full and outside off, driven on the up, straight to point.
  • 4.4 Outside off, inviting to drive, but guess it will be food first, so Hendricks lets it go. Lunch is just 2 balls away.
  • 4.3 A sharp bouncer around off, Hendricks sways away from the line.
  • 4.2 Outside off, let through again.
  • 4.1 Full and outside off, left alone.
  • 3.6 Outside off, a play and a miss. 28/0
  • 3.5 Outside off, Reeza tries to defend but the ball runs off the outside edge towards third man. A run taken.
  • 3.4 IN THE AIR... BUT SAFE! There is that length - just between short and full. Outside off, Hendricks looks to push but the ball shoots up and goes off the edge, but over point. A couple taken.
  • 3.3 One more leave outside off.
  • 3.2 The batsman lets the ball go outside his off stump.
  • 3.1 Outside off, punched from the back foot.
  • Mitchell Starc is on now.
  • 2.6 Outside off, left alone. 25/0
  • 2.5 Outside off, in the corridor of uncertainty, Quinton feels for it but misses.
  • 2.4 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 2.3 EDGED, BUT DOES NOT CARRY! Finally Hazlewood gets it in the right channel. Bowls it on a length outside off, Quinton gets forward to defend but an outside edge is induced which lands short of second slip.
  • 2.2 FOUR! Badly lined this time. Down the leg side, de Kock just directs it to the fine leg fence. 128 more to win now.
  • 2.1 FOUR! BRILLIANT! The boundary flow continues. Third of the innings already. Half volley outside off, de Kock drives this through the covers and gets a boundary.
  • 1.6 Full and outside off, driven straight to short extra cover. 16 from the over! What a start from the Proteas. 17/0
  • 1.6 FIVE WIDES! Sloppy from Coulter-Nile. Full and down the leg side, Hendricks misses his flick and Carey cannot stop it cleanly, even with a dive. Parries it to the fine leg fence.
  • 1.5 Short and outside off, QdK cuts it hard and almost gets the third boundary of the over. But Glenn Maxwell throws himself to his right and parries it to third man. Just a single.
  • 1.4 FOUR! BEAUTY! Not the best bit of bowling from Coulter-Nile. He floats up a half volley, outside off, de Kock gets to the pitch of the ball and drives it wide of mid off for the second boundary of the over. Quinton moves to 10 from 6 balls.
  • 1.3 Down the leg side, flicked beautifully behind square leg for a couple.
  • 1.2 FOUR! De Kock is away. Full and swinging in, Quinton flicks it wide of a diving mid on and gets the first boundary of the run chase. 148 more needed to win.
  • 1.1 Full and around off, swinging in, pushed towards mid on.
  • Nathan Coulter-Nile to bowl with the second new ball.
  • 0.6 Landed outside off, right in the corridor of Josh, left alone. 1/0
  • 0.5 On a length around off, extra bounce, Hendricks looks to tuck but the ball goes off the inside edge and hits him right on the box. Ouch.
  • 0.4 That is a jaffa. On a length outside off, Reeza plays for the line but it moves away at the last moment and beats him.
  • 0.3 Landed on a length outside off, left alone.
  • 0.2 Down the leg side, de Kock misses his flick and the ball goes off his thigh pads towards square leg. A leg bye taken.
  • 0.1 Full and around middle to start, watchfully defended.
  • The players are back out in the middle. Interesting. Josh Hazlewood will start off the proceedings. Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks will open the innings for South Africa. Quinton to face. Here we go...
