  • So, 259 is the target for New Zealand. They have the batting line-up to chase this down but have shown signs of over-dependency on one-two players. Australia, on the other hand, need to bowl extremely well to defend this. Will the Kiwis chase this down or will Australia go 1-0 up? Join us in a short while to find out.
  • Australia started in an excellent fashion, courtesy David Warner and Aaron Finch. They both got to their respective fifties but then the problem started as they fell in quick succession and Australia could not recover from those blows. Steven Smith, too, could not last long and it was upon his disciple, Marnus Labuschagne who didn't disappoint and played a handy knock in helping the hosts reach 258. He got to his second fifty and it was a brilliant innings. The death overs was a problem as they could not find the boundaries at regular intervals. They scored only 64 runs in the last 10 overs and have ended up with a below-par score.
  • New Zealand have made a terrific comeback after Australia had got off to a brilliant start. The Aussies were 124/0 and were looking set for a total above 300 but the Kiwis pulled things back remarkably well and have restricted the Aussies to 258. Lockie Ferguson started it all, picking up the big wicket of David Warner and then Santner joined the party, getting Finch and the big fish, Steven Smith. He was the best bowler on show for the visitors, picking up two wickets and was the most economical as well. Sodhi was disappointing at the start but came back strongly in the end and finished with three wickets.
  • 49.6 DROPPED! Ross Taylor drops a tough chance! On a length on middle, Starc lofts it over mid-wicket but does not get the timing on it. It goes towards the fielder where Taylor runs backwards and tries to take the catch but spills it. The batsmen get two runs. AUSTRALIA FINISH WITH 258/7 IN THEIR 50 OVERS!
  • 49.5 FOUR! Full and outside off, Starc looks to drive but gets an outside edge. It goes towards third man for a boundary.
  • 49.4 Full again on off, Starc lofts it over mid off. The fielder at long off does well to stop it. The batsmen get two runs.
  • 49.3 Full delivery on off, Cummins drives it towards covers for a single.
  • 49.2 Full toss on off, Starc drives it through point for a single.
  • Mitchell Starc is the next batsman in.
  • 49.1 OUT! CAUGHT! Another wicket off a full toss. End of a good innings from Marnus Labuschagne! He kept the Australian innings together after they lost a few quick wickets. A full toss outside off. Labuschagne looks to hammer it over the infield on the off side but ends up slicing it off the outer half of his bat. It goes straight into the hands of Ross Taylor at point. Australia struggling to end on a high!
  • Lockie Ferguson to bowl the final over of the innings.
  • 48.6 Full again on off, Marnus drives it through covers for a single. 248/6
  • 48.5 Full delivery on off, Labuschagne chips it over the bowler's head towards long off. The batsmen pick up a couple.
  • 48.4 Full toss on off, Cummins drives it through covers. Nicholls in the deep slides and does well to stop it just before the ropes. The batsmen get three runs.
  • 48.3 Short delivery on leg, Marnus pulls it over square leg. The batsmen take a single.
  • 48.2 On a length on middle, Labuschagne flicks it through mid-wicket. The batsmen get two runs.
  • 48.1 NOT OUT! The impact is outside off and Labuschagne survives. Brilliant decision to review! Full delivery outside off, Labuschagne moves across to the off side and then looks to paddle sweep. He misses and gets rapped on the pads. Boult and the rest appeal and the umpire raises the dreaded finger. Labuschagne goes for the review immediately. The Ultra Edge rolls in and it shows that there is no bat on it. The Ball Tracker then shows that the impact is outside off. A leg bye in the end.
  • Marnus Labuschagne has been given out LBW! He has taken it upstairs through DRS. It looks like the impact is outside off. Let's see what happens.
  • 47.6 SIX! That is huge! Floated delivery on off, Cummins lofts it over covers for a maximum. 239/6
  • 47.5 Full delivery on off, Cummins drives it towards mid off.
  • 47.4 Driven through the covers by the batsman.
  • 47.3 NOT OUT! Cummins' foot was in. Flighted delivery on off, Cummins looks to drive but misses it. It goes towards the keeper where Latham takes the bails off. It is referred upstairs. Replays show that Cummins' foot was well inside the crease.
  • Stumping appeal taken upstairs! Cummins is the man in question. The Kiwi players do not seem interested. The replays show that Cummins was inside his crease.
  • 47.2 Loopy delivery on middle, Cummins drives it through mid on. The fielder at long on throws the ball at the keeper's end where he takes the bails off. The batsmen get two runs.
  • 47.1 50 for Labuschagne! It is his second ODI fifty! Tossed up delivery on off, Labuschagne comes down the track and drives it through mid off for a single. Continues his excellent run of form since the South African tour. He scored a hundred in the last ODI of the South African series and now gets to his fifty. Going through a purple patch. He needs to finish it well for Australia.

  • 45.6 OUT! CAUGHT! Another one bites the dust! Carey is the latest casualty. Sodhi picks up another and it is off a full toss. Carey premeditates his sweep shot and goes on his knees before the ball is bowled. Sodhi bowls a full toss on middle, it takes the top edge and flies behind square leg. Trent Boult takes the catch by moving swiftly across to his right from short fine leg. Big blow to the Aussies given Carey's ability to hit the ball long and deep. 226/6
  • 45.5 Flatter one on middle, Marnus flicks it towards square leg for a single.
  • 45.4 Floated on middle, Carey sweeps it to deep square leg to get off the mark with a single.
  • Alex Carey is the next batsman in.
  • 45.3 OUT! CAUGHT! Australia are failing to find the final flourish here! Marsh goes now and he should be disappointed. Got a start but then throws his wicket away. Sodhi bowls it slower through the air and wide outside off, Marsh reaches out for it and then looks to go over extra cover. He gets deceived and the ball travels uppishly towards Guptill at extra cover. He takes the catch and Sodhi gets his second wicket.
  • 45.2 Missed out! Labuschagne dances down the track and then converts this ball to a full toss. Marnus just drives it to cover and takes a single.

  • Drinks break!
  • 34.3 OUT! CAUGHT! D'Arcy falls to a 'Short' delivery. That is a very, very soft dismissal! Sodhi cannot believe it that a rank long hop has fetched him a wicket. It is a short delivery around middle, D'Arcy transfers his weight on the back leg as he attempts to pull it into the empty stands at deep mid-wicket. He fires it in flat and a touch short around off at 92.6 kph, Smith spots the line and length early and finds it to be good enough to attempt for the back foot punch. But it skids off the surface and hurries past his bat to disturb the off pole. Smith cannot believe what has happened here! He looks at the pitch and then the stumps. Completely bamboozled. He will be disappointed though not to go on and score a big one here. Short ball on off, hurrying up the batsman with his pace as the speed gun records it to be 149.6 kph. Warner looks to pull but it takes the top edge and goes towards mid on where Sodhi takes the simplest of catches. • Hello and a warm welcome to our coverage of the first ODI between Australia and New Zealand. Despite the Coronavirus concerns affecting many sporting events in the world, these two teams are all set to lock horns in a 3-match ODI series. Australia had a tough series against South Africa and now would look for home comforts to get back to winning ways. They have retained the same squad that played the Proteas but Kane Richardson has been tested for COVID-19 and will miss this game. Sean Abbott has been called up to the squad as a standby. New Zealand, on the other hand, will be high on confidence after their victory against India and will be looking to continue the winning momentum. Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry return to the squad, further bolstering their squad. Cricket Australia has announced that this series will be played behind closed doors due to Covid-19 virus. Will the Kiwis start the series with a win or will Australia get back to winning ways? Toss and team updates in a while.

Australia Vs New Zealand Live Score (ODI) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • That's all from this game! Australia start the series with a win and they would look to seal the deal in the next game itself. The Kiwis, on the other hand, would look to pull up their socks and perform better. The second game will be played at the same ground which will start at 1030 local (2330 GMT, Previous day). Join us for that. Until then, cheers!
  • MAN OF THE MATCH IS MITCHELL MARSH! Says that as a team they were disappointed with the series loss in South Africa and they were pumped up to get a win today. Lauds the efforts of David Warner and Aaron Finch at the top which set up the platform for them.
  • New Zealand skipper, Kane Williamson, terms it a tough pitch and feels that Australia had an above par total on the board. Mentions that Australia's opening partnership provided them the momentum and then they got handy runs towards the end as well. Admits that they need to be a bit better with their lines and also feels that they have to focus on extending the partnerships with the bat. Praises his spinners for doing a good job in the middle overs.
  • Australian skipper, Aaron Finch, says that it was a crucial toss to win on a dry surface and also adds that they bowled superbly in Powerplay 1 to restrict New Zealand. Feels that their opening partnership was nice and he and Warner had to adjust to the slowness of the wicket.
  • Earlier in the day, Australia lost their way with the bat after a powerful beginning. They somehow limped their way past the 250-run mark and that turned out to be more than enough in the end. As far as their bowling is concerned, they were very professional in their approach and always maintained a firm grip on the match. The Aussie bowlers not only picked wickets at regular intervals, they also dried out the runs to build extra pressure on the Kiwi batsmen. Overall, Aaron Finch will be thrilled with their performance in the field, although their issues with the middle order batting still remains unfixed. For the visitors, they didn't play badly but their approach with the bat was questionable. The pitch was on the slower side and they should have shown more intensity in Powerplay 1. Stay tuned for the presentation...

He dishes out a well-disguised googly and completely foxes New Zealand's skipper. The ball lands on a fuller length close to off, Williamson presses forward to flick it around on the leg side but doesn't quite pay attention to the direction where the ball is spinning.
