  • Mohammad Nabi is having a chat with Brian Murgatroyd. Nabi says that it is a good total on the board as it is a slow pitch. Tells that they were looking to go after the pacers and put them off their line and length as hitting the spinners was difficult. Adds that he tried his best to get the ball in his areas and punish them. Nabi says the plan was to stay as long as possible and hit the bad balls. On the total, Nabi feels it is a good total and hopes they can defend it.
  • Earlier, it was a debutant who surprised everyone. Rahmanullah Gurbaz took the bull by the horns with a 24-ball 43, giving Afghanistan the early momentum. Zimbabwe managed to stall the proceedings post the Powerplay but could not sustain the same for long. Sean Williams was the only bowler who escaped punishment, with figures of 4-0-16-2. Can Zimbabwe offer any fight? Stay tuned for their reply.
  • The scorecard read 109/4 at the end of the 15th over. At that stage, 160 looked to be a possibility. But then, came the attack. Jarvis went for 10 off his final two balls in the 16th over and that gave the momentum to the Afghans. The next over from Chatara went for 26, which had four successive sixes. Then the next three balls disappeared as well as Afghanistan went on a rampage. Najibullah Zadran and Mohammad Nabi staged a mammoth stand of 107 in just 40 balls as their team galloped away.
  • Wow. Some hitting. What happened? When how? From turning into a snooze fest, this attack has woken everyone up from slumber.
  • 19.6 OUT! A wicket to end the innings. A simple catch. Full and outside off, Nabi looks to clear long on but he is not quite able to get underneath it. The ball takes the toe end of the bat and lobs towards long on where Ryan Burl takes it calmly. AFGHANISTAN FINISH ON 197/5!
  • 19.5 Driven through the covers by the batsman. One run added to the total.
  • 19.4 FOUR! Good shot from Najibullah! Full toss outside off, Najibullah stands still and lofts this towards the extra cover region for a boundary. The fielder at long off runs in from long off to try and stop the boundary but he is nowhere close to it. Afghanistan are getting close to 200 here.
  • 19.3 Full on middle, pushed back to the bowler. Chatara collects and looks to have a shy at the bowler's end but Nabi gets back in.
  • 19.2 Full toss on middle, Nabi lofts this towards long off. It looked like it was going for a boundary but Ainsley runs in from long off and makes an excellent diving stop. Keeps the batsman to only a single.
  • 19.1 Full toss, on middle, Nabi flicks it through mid-wicket and calls for two. The throw comes in and Najibullah is gone for all money but the bowler fumbles. Hits the stumps with his hand instead.
  • Tendai Chatara to bowl the final over. Can he RESTRICT Afghanistan under 200? 3-0-45-1 so far.
  • 18.6 SIX! A flat hit to end the over! Boy, 200 is on now. A low full toss outside off, Najibullah reaches out and carves it over extra cover! 15 from the over, 80 from the last 4! 189/4
  • 18.5 Full and around off, chipped down to long off. The fielder comes running in but the ball drops down in front of him. He misses it but luckily for him, Ryan Burl gets across from long on to stop the boundary. Two runs taken.
  • 18.4 FOUR! Unlucky this for Jarvis! Bowls an excellent yorker around off, but Najibullah gets his bat down in time and guides this past the short third man fielder for a boundary. Jarvis will feel hard done by as he bowled a good yorker but cricket can be cruel at times.
  • 18.3 Very full delivery on middle, Nabi pushes this to long on for a single. Good bowling this.
  • 18.2 Full delivery outside off, Najibullah drives this uppishly towards cover for another single.
  • 18.1 Full delivery on middle, Nabi lofts this towards deep mid-wicket but only a single.
  • Kyle Jarvis is back! His figures read 3-0-38-0! Can he finish on a high?
  • 17.6 Good fielding in the deep! Shorter on off, Nabi drags his pull wide of deep square leg. The man in the deep moves to his left and saves a certain boundary. 25 off the over. 51 off the last 2. Zimbabwe being taken down viciously. 174/4
  • 17.5 Finally some respite for the bowler. The pour down of sixes have calmed down for the moment at least! Good length ball around off, NZ hits it hard but finds deep point for a single.
  • 17.4 FOUR! Just short of the ropes there. Zadran gets to his fifty in style. It has come at a very quick time here. Full outside off, Zadran smashes it flat over point. The ball bounces just inside the ropes. He raises his bat as his teammates applaud his knockout innings here.
  • 17.4 WIDE! Pressure on Madziva. He misses his line and bowls one way outside off. It is on the wrong side of the tramline. Zadran throws his bat at it but misses.
  • 17.3 SIX! Slower ball gone terribly wrong! Madziva attempts a change of pace but ends up serving a full toss down the leg side. Madziva gets down on one knee and swings it over the square leg fence for the third consecutive maximum of the over.
  • 17.2 SIX! 6 IN 6 FOR Afghanistan! Another short ball around off, Zadran picks it early and once again demolishes it over the mid-wicket fence for a maximum. It is raining sixes here.

  • 16.6 SIX! Nabi will not missing out on this delivery! Four sixes in a row! Full delivery outside off, Nabi lofts over the extra cover region for another maximum. This is mayhem out there. 149/4
  • 16.5 SIX! Another one! Nabi is on fire here! Another full delivery around off, Nabi lofts this nicely over the mid-wicket fielder for another maximum. Zimbabwe completely losing the plot here.
  • 16.4 SIX! Bowls a full delivery on off, Nabi stands still and lofts this over the bowler's head for back-to-back maximums. Afghanistan is gaining momentum here.
  • 16.3 SIX! Slower short ball on off, Nabi rocks back and pulls it over the mid-wicket region for a huge maximum. It went into the second tier here. Excellent stuff this from Nabi.
  • 16.2 The batsman gets an inside edge on that which goes fine down the leg side. One run added to the total.
  • 16.1 Full delivery on middle, Nabi drives this nicely down the ground but unfortunately for him, it hits the stumps on the bowler's end and rolls towards mid on. The batters can only take a single.
  • Tendai Chatara is back. 2-0-19-1, his figures so far.
  • 15.6 SIX! Excellent shot! Jarvis bowls a full delivery on middle, Najibullah lofts this over the long on region for a huge maximum. The ball went high in the air and ended up being a 76 metre six. Good end to the over. 14 runs coming off it. 123/4

  • 14.5 FREE HIT! Full delivery on middle, Nabi looks to flick but gets an inside edge towards square leg for a couple.
  • Free Hit coming up.
  • 14.5 NO BALL! Second bouncer of the over and that is why it is given a no ball. Slower short ball down the leg side, Nabi looks to flick but misses. Free Hit coming up.

  • 13.4 EDGED AND FOUR! Short delivery around off, Najibullah looks to cut but gets an outside edge towards the third man region for another boundary. Najibullah looking to up the ante here. 100 up for Afghanistan.
  • 13.3 SIX! A short ball outside off, Zadran pulls it over mid-wicket!
  • Mohammad Nabi walks in.
  • 13.2 OUT! Caught! Gone this time. Gosh. That went miles in the air. Flighted outside off, Afghan jumps out once again, aiming to repeat his previous ball's dose but this time he skies it high in the night sky. Does not have enough distance and Ryan Burl does very well to take the skier at long on. Are the Afghans losing the plot?
  • 13.1 SIX! AUDACIOUS! Full and outside off, Afghan comes down the track and slogs it wayyyy over mid-wicket! First boundary after 31 balls.

  • 11.4 Full and around off, Zadran looks to slog but misses and is hit on the chest.
  • 11.3 Full and outside off, watchfully defended.
  • Najibullah Zadran is the next man in!
  • 11.2 OUT! CAUGHT! Tarakai is out of here! Loopy ball on off which bounced a little extra, Tarakai looks to push it towards the off side but the ball bounces on him and it goes off the upper half of his bat towards cover. Ainsley Ndlovu there takes a simple catch. Zimbabwe are making a comeback in the game by restricting the run flow and also picking up wickets.
  • 11.1 Short delivery on off, Tarakai cuts it towards point for nothing.
  • Sean Williams is back into the attack.
  • 10.6 Loopy ball on off, Tarakai pushes it to cover and takes off for a single. There is a mix-up between the batsman but no harm is done. 80/2

  • 7.3 Dropped short, pulled through mid-wicket for a single.
  • 7.2 Slower ball, Najeeb looks to run it down to third man but misses.
  • 7.1 SAFE. Full and outside off, Tarakai looks to defend but the ball skids through to beat the outside edge. Taylor collects and whips off the bails, appealing for a stumping once more. It is referred upstairs and this time, the third umpire does not take too much time.
  • Oh dear... third umpire again. Another stumping appeal. Tarakai looks well in.
  • Asghar Afghan walks in at number 4, replacing Gurbaz. Ainsley Ndlovu comes on for his first stint in T20Is.
  • 6.6 OUT! LBW! umpire's call! The review is retained but Gurbaz' fun is over. Williams strikes. The slider, pitching around off and skidding on, Rahmanullah looks to sweep but misses. Is hit on the pads, Williams appeals and the umpire raises his finger. Gurbaz has a chat with his partner and then takes the review. The third umpire takes a while to confirm whether there is no inside edge. The ball is pretty close to the gloves but eventually, he is convinced that the spike on Ultra Edge is not due to the gloves. Ball Tracker shows the ball to be clipping leg stump, which means umpire's call will stay. 43 from 24 for the debutant. 60/2
  • Gurbaz has been adjudged LBW! He takes the review after a thought. Looks close. Not hitting the gloves.
  • 6.5 Outside off, punched off the back foot for a run.
  • 6.4 Full and around off, watchfully defended.
  • 6.3 Outside off, played straight to point.
  • 6.2 SAFE as a house. Boy, that took a long time coming, didn't it? Full and outside off, Tarakai looked to defend but was beaten in flight. His back foot came out slightly, was in the air but then it came back in. Taylor behind collected the ball and whipped the bails off in a flash. In the very first replay, it seemed that the foot had landed safely before the bails went off. Still, the third umpire takes ages before eventually pressing the right button.
  • STUMPING APPEAL! Taylor looks confident. Is Tarakai in trouble? Replays seem to show that the back foot is in.
  • 6.1 On middle, worked through mid-wicket for a single.
  • 5.6 Outside off, pushed towards cover for a quick single. 9 runs and a wicket from the final Powerplay over as Afghanistan end that phase on 58/1. 58/1
  • 5.5 Around off, pushed towards cover.
  • Najeeb Tarakai walks in at number 3, replacing Zazai.
  • 5.4 OUT! Caught. So it will not be a wicketless Powerplay. A wicket falls at last. A length ball, outside off, Hazratullah swings hard but he is slightly early into his shot. The ball comes much later than his anticipation and takes the top edge. Simple catch for Sean Williams at sweeper cover. Wonder what was the need for that slog with Gurbaz going so well at the other end.
  • 5.3 Outside off, pushed through point for a run.
  • 5.2 SIX! ADMONISHED! A short ball, around middle, Gurbaz picks it off his hips and pulls it over fine leg!

  • 4.3 Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 4.2 Goes for another slog sweep but this time he misses. Is hit on the chest. Williams looks to appeal but then bails out. Probably it was too high.
  • 4.1 SIX! WHOOSH! Oh ya... leftie to bowl and leftie to bat. Outta here! Flighted outside off, Zazai now puts his attacking mode on. Gets down on a knee and slog sweeps it over mid-wicket!
  • Sean Williams into the attack now.
  • 3.6 FOUR! And again! Landed outside off, Gurbaz looks to swing this time. To the leg side. Does not make any difference. He is slow once more and the ball takes the outside edge once again. Clears short third man once again. 13 from the over, 34 from the last 3! 41/0
  • 3.5 FOUR! Off the outside edge. Full and outside off, Gurbaz looks to go straight down the ground but gets a thick outside edge which flies over short third man!

  • 3.2 Outside off, steered behind point for a single.
  • 3.1 On middle and leg, flicked straight to square leg.

  • 2.5 Full on middle, chipped over mid on. The fielder runs back to catch but cannot get there. Two runs taken.
  • 2.4 On middle and leg, flicked through mid on for a quick run.

  • 2.2 Landed outside off, a bit of extra bounce, fended off the gloves to the off side for a run.
  • 2.1 Full and outside off, watchfully pushed towards the off side. Gurbaz wants a single.
  • Tendai Chatara comes in as the first change, pretty early.
  • 1.6 Another pull shot. This is through mid-wicket but does not travel. But the batsmen travel nicely, running hard between the wickets, for three runs. 11 from the over! 18/0
  • 1.5 FOUR! WHAM! A short ball, outside off, Gurbaz swivels, gets across and pulls this through square leg for boundaries in succession!
  • 1.4 FOUR! Up and over! First boundary of the game. Landed outside off, Gurbaz backs away a touch and lofts it over wide mid off. One bounce and into the fence.
  • 1.3 Outside off, on a length, Gurbaz looks to push but the ball goes off the inside edge past the stumps towards short fine leg.
  • 1.2 Around off, watchfully defended.

  • 0.2 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 0.1 Works this through mid-wicket for a single.
  • We are all set for the game to begin. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai will open for the Afghans. Ainsley Ndlovu will bowl with the new ball. Debutant to debutant. Gurbaz to face. Here we go!

Afghanistan Vs Zimbabwe Live Score (T20) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • 2 points apiece for Afghanistan and Bangladesh! Sparks will fly when they meet on Sunday, for that is the next match in the series. Zimbabwe, with 2 wins in 2 games, are on the verge of being knocked out but if the loser of Sunday continues to lose and Zimbabwe win their remaining games, they might still have an outside chance. Join us on 15th September, 2019 at 6.30 pm local (1230 GMT) for a highly anticipated cracker. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
  • Victorious Afghan captain, Rashid Khan too, thanks the almighty for helping him win his first T20I as a captain. Praises his bowlers and batsmen and even the debutant, Rahmanullah Gurbaz. on Afghanistan enjoying the T20 format, Rashid feels that the team can adjust to any format and not necessarily one particular type. Goes on to say that even if they play T20s for a while and then suddenly switch to a 4-day game, the players adjust accordingly. On his own bowling variations, Rashid says that he usually prefers bowling his overs from 9-18 but says that he does not do anything different from other bowlers. Though, he adds that he tries to change the pattern but using different grips, different releases and even changing his pace.
  • NAJIBULLAH ZADRAN HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. Thanks the almighty and says that he loves playing in Bangladesh, as he plays a lot of cricket here. On his stand with Nabi, Najib thanks his captain for giving him a chance to bat higher the order. Adds that the target was initially to bat sensibly till the 16th over and then then go berserk in the last 4. Stresses that the reason for that was the wicket being on the slower side, hence, a batsman had to take his time to settle in. Once in, he could play his shots.
  • Zimbabwe skipper, Hamilton Masakadza, says that it was a bit of a disappointing day and the only positive to come out was the batting display late in the game and the comeback by his spinners in the middle overs of the game. Praises his tweakers for bringing his side back into the contest but laments the mauling at the death by Najibullah Zadran and Nabi. Admits that the execution at the back end with the ball is a worry but assures that the guys are trying their level best.
  • Earlier in the evening, Afghanistan teed off in the format they enjoy the most. It was a different player though. Hazratullah Zazai usually goes bang bang but it was the debutant Rahmanullah Gurbaz who did the damage. His 24-ball 43 set the tone for a good total but then that carnage from Najibullah and Nabi took the game. Their century stand blew the Zimbabweans off and at one stage, 7 sixes were scored off 7 balls in succession. Please stay tuned for the presentation...
  • Not under any pressure necessarily, but the Afghans did well with the ball. Fareed Ahmad showed the value of a left-arm seamer in the sport, pricing out two wickets while Rashid strut his stuff with 2 of his own. The others were fairly decent too.
  • Chasing 198 was never going to be easy, even though Brendan Taylor did get some firecrackers going. But there was barely any support from the other end. Eventually, the pressure got to him and he departed too. Zimbabwe were reeling at 44/4 and the match was almost over at that stage. Mutombodzi, Burl and Chakabva tried to inject some momentum into the run chase and managed to push the total beyond 150. A good score batting first but way too less in this run chase.
  • Easy peasy for Afghanistan. They maintain their clean chit over Zimbabwe in this format. 8 matches played, all 8 won. Superb in the past, excellent here again.
  • 19.6 Full delivery on off, Chakabva drives this to mid off and takes a single. Does not matter as AFGHANISTAN HAVE WON THE GAME BY 28 RUNS!
  • 19.5 PLAY AND A MISS! Some innovation there from Chakabva! Goes for a reverse sweep to this good length ball outside off but fails to put any bat on it.
  • 19.4 Full delivery outside off, Jarvis drives this to covers for a single.
  • 19.4 WIDE. Full and well outside off, Kyle lets it go.
  • 19.3 SIX! Outside off, Jarvis backs away and thumps it straight back over the bowler!
  • 19.2 Full delivery outside off, Regis makes room for himself towards off and thumps it towards long off for a single.
  • 19.1 FOUR! Slower delivery outside off, Chakabva slog sweeps this towards the square leg region for a boundary. The fielder at square leg runs in but cannot stop the ball.
  • 18.6 Short ball on middle, Jarvis attempts to pull this but puts nothing on the bat. 43 runs required from 6 balls! 155/7
  • 18.5 CAUGHT? DROPPED? Nope. SIX. A high full toss, around middle, Jarvis looks to clear long on but does not quite hit it cleanly. The ball takes the toe end of the bat and lobs towards long on. Asghar Afghan takes the catch but then realizes that he is going behind. Throws the ball back into play but immediately signals six. The umpires check for the replays and sure enough, while going back, Afghan's left leg touched the ropes. They check for the no ball as well but replays deem it fine.
  • 18.4 Full delivery outside off, Chakabva drives this towards the cover region for a single. Jarvis wants a single but is sent back.
  • 18.3 SAFE! Full delivery on middle, Chakabva looks to play a slog sweep but gets a top edge which goes way up in the air behind the stumps. The keeper, the fielder from third man and the fielder from fine leg converge but the ball falls just short of them. The batsmen pick up a couple.
  • 18.2 Back of a length delivery on off, Jarvis pushes this towards the off side and takes a single.
  • 18.1 Slower delivery outside off, Jarvis looks to slog it away but fails to put any bat on it.
  • Fareed Ahmad comes into the attack!
  • 17.6 Short ball on middle, Jarvis heaves this away to the leg side and crosses over for a single. 145/7
  • 17.5 Short ball outside off, Jarvis looks to heave this away but misses it completely.
  • 17.4 Full delivery outside off, Jarvis looks to play a lofted drive over cover but it goes off the inside half of his bat and towards the keeper on one bounce.
  • 17.3 Full delivery around off, Chakabva goes on one knee and plays this uppishly towards long off for a single.
  • 17.2 DROPPED, and then an overthrow! Outside off, Chakabva throws his bat at it and gets a thick outside edge. The ball goes behind where Gurbaz flies to his right but cannot hang on. The batsmen go for the single as he tries to mop up and seeing that, he has a shy at the bowler's end. Misses and now concedes an overthrow as well.
  • Kyle Jarvis walks in at number 9, replacing Madziva.
